So long, and thanks for all the fish - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Time for me to say goodbye as I bought a used S3 over the weekend and will be heading to their xda forum now. I've owned the Note since it was first available in the UK and it's a bit of a wrench letting it go; the most unique device out there, for sure. I wouldn't say the S3 is better, just different, and I fancied trying something different for a while.
Anyway, I wanted to thank all the helpful folks on here who've made my Note owning experience so much the better. So, thank you.

Wonderful Guide reference... Bon Voyage!

Awesome. I went the opposite way: used the s3 for two weeks, didn't like the design nor did it feel much if a step up from an s2, so I bought a used Note! Because, in one word: screen. Report back in a week or two on your thoughts! Any reason why you didn't wait a month to check out the Note 2?

I still might check out the Note 2 not keen that they've increased the screen size and lowered the resolution though. Totally appreciate why you've moved in the opposite direction, the Note is awesome. I'm enjoying the S3 so far though, will let you know how it goes in a couple of weeks.

So it looks like the Note 2 is a higher quality screen, fair enough. My 'completely wrong' point was that they've lowered the screen resolution (1280x800 to 1280x720) while physically increasing screen size.

You can not compare things that are not equal.. Resolution on pentile screens are not the same that RGB screens.. so saying that it has more or less resolution its pointless.. its just a different technology..

Do i have the right to miss my Note1 ?

First article for me and plz mind my english
First of all i bought Gn2 every thing about it is great
The main problem for me is the screen dimensions its narrrow to use it in horizantal position (Landscape view) there is less screen rows in the screen which is not comfortable (for me) .
I believe the main idea of a phablet is to be a phone and feel like tablet but the width of this screen bother me while reading and i love reading in my GN1 some ppl mention its goofy look coz but it practical.
Gn2 is out of phablet zone it look like normal phone
Cheers

I think Sammy changed the dimensions and looks to attract more potential buyers. They are creating a new line that started with the S3 and will be used on all coming new devices. I personaly like it as improves usability, the Note 1 (wich i also had) felt a lot bigger in my hands han the Note 2 does.
So for me overall i like the new design :good:
This was a problem for me as well, especially when using the browser. I set it to fullscreen with quick controls so that it uses the entire screen estate to display the webpage. It's pretty much fine for me, now.
The 16:9 ratio is magnificent for videos, though
I had the same feelings towards this, but after using the phone, with it's speed and extra functions, it's now just a minor niggle, as the pros out weigh the cons.

I agree, the note 1 was a great device but its width made it look weird sometimes and was not as pocketable as the note 2. I personally prefer the new design and form factor much better than the note 1, I don't feel weird when I take it out in public

I feel the same. I like 16:10 ratio better. Thw new narrower screen makes me hesitant to upgrade.

I gave my Note 1 to ny sister and when I compare it to my Note 2, the reduced width definitely makes the phone feel better in hands.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
I have my Note 2 (grey) since 5 days and really love it. I agree that the extra width made the Note 1 somehow special. Thats why we called it a phablet. The Note 2 is "just" a big smartphone. But I never used the Note 1 in landscape except for watching videos, so I do not really miss the missing 80 pixels. On the other hand, small letters are much better readable on the Note 2, so I could just zoom out a little more and see as much on the Note 2 as I could on the Note 1.
The pros of the Note 2 overweigh the cons and I hope that Samsung does not switch to pentile again for the Note 3.

I had exact same feeling as you when u first got my note 2....I thought the dimension made the screen looked smaller than the note 1...but I'm used to it now...plus, the brightness and colour on note 2 is much better than note 1 make up for the different dimension...oh..also...note 2s new dimension is so much easier to hold hands

The feeling of a Compromise is always there when first Switching from the original to the Note II.The reason that We went to the the Note and not to another device in the first place was because of its sheer size.
But the advantages of the Note II over the old Note are so overwhelming that marginaly narrower profile turns out to be an advantage in itself.

Mmmh, talking about screen ratio makes me thinking about some game compatibility.
Indeed, I have been highly frustrated that some games (I bought with my GS1) are not compatible with the galaxy note 1.
I was thinking it was because of the screen size, but I am thinking now that the screen ratio is more probably the cause !
Would it be possible that some of you check if those games are compatible with your GN2 ?

Note 2... Padphone 2... FIGHT!

Okay I'll edit this later with all the known stats but for now please help me decide which is should blow my load on, the note 2 or the padphone 2.
In brief
amoled vs IPS
5,5 vs 4,7 + 10.1
Exynos vs S4
Polycarbonate (plastic) vs something better
16gb+SD vs 16gb (both may do bigger sometime circa 2113.)
Buy now vs Buy Dec (knowing Asus buy April or buy a Lemon)
Help please, I little stopped myself buying the note today because of how much better the padphone 2 looks to the PDP1.

Galaxy Note its an unique device.. You can not compare it to anything.. And everything depends on your needs and likes... I can not take anything less than 5.3" Wich its my note 1(waiting for my note 2 to arrive) specs wise the note 2 its the best device to date out there and even if later someone releases something better/faster in processor terms still can not match the 5.55" RGB super Amoled screen

Because this is the only Phablet out there, and it has some cons such as: old CPU and GPU (if comparing to Snapdragon S4 Pro with Adreno 320 GPU), no support from CM (yes, this is a deal breaker for me!), and I personally don't really like SAMOLED screens because of low brightness and bad whites, also they burn in, camera is also not the best out there today (look at the PadFone 2).
The only pros I see for this device is: huge screen, huge battery, sd slot, replaceable battery and Samsung's AWESOME features (S Pen, Popup Note, Popup Play (I know the last two wont work with CM, but they are still there with TW roms, and I can always switch ))
So for now, I don't know what to choose
If the Note II will have CM support (ahm ahm Exynos documentation), I will definitely get it

If you look at Asus record as far as android devices are concerned, there are many negative things to say. I had a TF101 and it was crap and looking at all the issues people keep having with their Asus android devices a miracle will have to happen for the padphone to work properly. I have had a 7.7 galaxy tab for a while now and i can count on the fingers of one hand how many times a program has FCed on it. Asus will probably paper release the Padfone 3 six months after the 2 just like they did with the Padfone 1. ..

Older / newer (processor term) doesn't mean anything.. Those are 2 different technologies.. It's like comparing the newer AMD against the "older" core i7 xtreme just plain bull****. Note wouldn't be any faster or smoother with snap dragon s4.. The gpu keeps the name but it has lots of improvements over older versions.. And to be honest even with my N7000 I can play any game in the play store...
About cm support.. Tw at this stage has no match feature/smoothness wise.. Why would I flash a very basic flat android when I have a better launcher made by samsung? (Btw if you like aosp looks just install nova /apex)
Camera its not better for mega pixels but the lense and my note does take greate pictures... And I'm not a professional photographer and If I were, I wouldn't use a phone to take pictures so that's just plain dumb.
SAMOLED its great.. I've owned s3, gnexus note 1, no problem so far.. And note 2 has RGB matrix so the little things that bothers me from pentile are now gone.. Bad whites? What do you do with whites? Everyone avoid whites.. Battery raper color...
Low brightness.. Wonder if you spend most of your time under the sun because that's the only condition in which you would need higher brightness and even so my Amoled devices have done well under sunny days..
You are trying to convince yourself of getting anything else but you are not looking at it in the right way... Note its an unique device.. Until now no matter what technology its out there nothing could match note 1 not even s3 or HTC one X why? ... Plain simple massive 5.3" screen/unique features only note 2 could take the crown and so will note 3...
With note devices just 2 things can happen or you hate it because of the size and would never get 1 or you completely love it and would never switch to anything smaller... Thing its that you gotta own the devices for some weeks to figure out that
Cheers

Based on my initial 30 min hands on.
85% love. 15% frustration.
What I love:
No Pentile.
Smooth like nobody's business.
LTE version not using different chipset like Note 1.
TouchWiz seems good now.
S-Pen easier to hold.
Device is sexier than Note 1.
What I hate:
SAMOLED Longevity. (6 months before it turns yellowish?)
Android Updates (5 months for 4.2??)
Lower res than Note 1. (Feels like a downgrade)

Blue pixels wear faster than green and red, you just have counter balance a bit.
Download color adjuster and set green and red values slightly lower.
According to Samsung the new (non pentile) arrangement of the sub pixels in the note2 display is to avoid this behavior.
Now on topic: 99% satisfied with the note 2

Just come from a ZTE Blade on giffgaff pay and go to Samsung Galaxy Note 2 on 3 pay monthly (the one plan with 2k mins, 5ktexts and unlim internet)
Excited and impressed all day over this phone and my new network, too... Love the hand writing and spen!
I don't understand any of these "lesser resolution than Note 1" complaints... Note 1's pentile meant it effectively had about 30% less resolution than it's 1280x800 said it did... So, the Note 2 has about 43% *MORE* effective resolution lengthwise and about 30% more effective resolution over the width of the screen...
Well, I'm biased, being fully satisfied, but numbers don't lie...
Totally satisfied.
On a side note, I don't get how others could participate in giving feedback regarding the note 2 if they don't even own the phone. How strange.

Came from a S3 LTE...Loved the S3...LOVE the Note 2 more...lol. The speed, battery life, screen, all much better! The size at first was a little big, but after using it a bit when I pick up my S3 it seems so small. The note 2 is well worth the upgrade IMOP.
Having used S3 and now note 2 I would say n2 is a far better phone bar couple issues. Screen resolution and camera are better on s3 if you can live with that then go for it however I would recommend waiting for HTC's Butterfly DLX before you makeup your mind. If I had a choice and both butterfly and note 2 where available I would definitely go for butterfly, purely due to far superior design and specs

My now sold Galaxy S3 LTE had the best Amoled screen (in terms of color reproduction) I've ever seen. Absolutely no color cast! My Note 2 has the worst LCD in terms of color reproduction, it is completely yellow...
I see no difference in the camera whatsoever. I believe they are the same hardware, camera wise. As far as the screen, when I set my S3 beside my N2...N2 wins. The pentile of the S3 is just not as good...IMOP.

multi tasking (split screen), lets me watch videos and surf the net. Forget that popup video player. It blocks the screen and is more of an annoyance. split screen video watching and web surfing is definitely the real way to do it.
bigger screen. You get used to the size. The S3 starts feeling uncomfortably small in about a week. You want to be using the Note 2 when making that realization.
S Pen...AirView on webpages totally rocks.
S Note...ability to have a device to write on as soon as it is out of your pocket is a big deal.
Battery life...is as good as you can get for a smartphone.
You do have to get used to the size a little. It is uncomfortable in my jeans when walking up stairs and sitting, but it is a small price to pay for an amazing device.

I also came from the LTE S3. Everything about this phone is better (screen, fluidity, speed, hardware, etc). Go for it if the size doesn't bother you. I love it.
I usually change phones every couple of months, but this may be the only phone I've ever owned that may hold me over until the next version releases.
Also came from the att s3 to the att note 2. You can't compare them. The note 2 smashes the s3 in every way. The screen is so much brighter. The loud speaker is at least twice as good. It's way faster. Everything on this phone is perfect except s note should open faster. I rate it 9.8/10

Actually the screen brightness is identical but it is much faster than a 1gb S3.
Loudspeaker is the best but the most important thing is that the Note 2 will last 8 hours of screen time with no problems!! That is just amazing!
Yeah easily 8 hours. Idk, the note 2 feels much brighter to me for sure.

I just put my galaxy note 2 down...

And went outside to smoke a cig and use my ATRIX to make this wonderful thread. Lol. <grabs cheek> you're so cute my little ATRIX, cuter than an iphone. Can't wait to finish this cig and go back to my manly phone.

I would expect someone with your statistics to be more responsible than starting such a useless thread as this one:what:
The Galaxy S Ill I had before the Note feels so fun-sized in comparison.

Agree ^__^ i love the note II after having the note I xd
Lol. Using the ATRIX is so funny. I am amazed I can type on thus thing. I do remember the ATRIX having a nice sensitive screen, a little bettrr than gnex and n4, but the note2 screen is so nice all across the board. Sensitivity, after putting in movie mode everything looks natural and I have hardly seen any black crush and watching videos does not put any hurt on the battery.

LOL same here
when i use my s2 i feel like what this small toy
Anybody else think youtube videos look better than your usual youtube videos, even high res videos, on note2 for some reason? Looks better than n4 and the gnex and n4 buffered all the time while the gnote2 rarely buffers a youtube video.

A friend just showed me a photo of a girl he is going after on his nokia 5800.. I found it rediculously small screen funny.
I used to use the 5800 in the past and u still remember thinking it had such a large screen.. I also used to complaint of its heavy weight.. Now holding it, it feels weightless in comparison to note 2

lol. i think we've all had a "i couldn't imagine using a phone that big" moment including non gnote2 users. iphone5 users are probably ****ting their pants with that extra row of icons. lol.
Would you imagine going back to a phone without multiwindow?? i just got used to be using 2 apps at once! Also the battery life is great! I can never go back! I just love my note 2! Every other phone looks boring for me. "Show me something i haven't seen...i got a note 2"
××**ches love note 2
my previous phone was an HTC Doubleshot (T-M MyTouch4GSlide), and having moved over to the Note2 for about a a week, I went back to the MT4GS so as to wipe it and install latest CyanogenMod 9. The MT4GS seems so small, almost like a toy, with its tiny display.
I ain't never gonna go back!
The "shock" is not the size of the Note but the cuteness of the phone you replace
That moment when I take my ex, SG1, in my hands again and think to my self "OMG, I used to tell people this thing has a huge screen??? I gotta find them all and tell them how wrong I was! :victory:"
Priceless!
you all think that the SGS2 or HD2 or anything else is small in comparison to Note 2? I have a Nokia XpressMusic 5800 at home! This is really small!
