agree..
from Android Eclair (2.1), then Froyo (2.2), then Ginger (2.3).. plus with some minor update.. i guess we are lucky to have SGS.. compared to other phone where some of them only get update till Froyo only..
beside that.. its even good when our phone still can handle ICS with ported ICS.. and it performance also superb.. thanks to the hardware inside and also of coz our lovely developer who make this happen..
Happy B'day Samsung..

Stock Samsung ROMs have always been crap for the SGS, full of bloatware and a crap file file system.
Over the last 18 months or so, some fantastic people sussed out the file system and gave us EXT2 and 4, removed the bloatware, created awesome ROMs and overclocking kernels.
ICS has been ported to the SGS and works rather well and once the bugs have been ironed out it will be awesome.
Who cares what Samsung will or wont do for SGS when there amazing guys here doing such a fantastic job with the ROMs.
Samsung are not the only company who are not releasing ICS for their phones released in 2010.
***** about Samsung all you like but that fact remains that all companies will deem a product end of life at some point, look at some of the Android 1.5 phones that didn't even get an upgrade to 1.6.
So on that note...happy birthday Samsung and please keep producing great Android hardware so the fantastic Devs here can keep producing awesome customs Roms

For all Sammy haters; Samsung is a business organization and not a charitable trust. As most of us agreed that they have already given us enough updates. That's it.
I have posted here just because most of the great developers and hardcore Samsung fans are here round the clock.

Why do you think you didn't get the update?
Manufacturers and carriers don't want you to be on the same phone for years just because you have latest software. They want you to keep buying new devices just because they have better specs and latest software.
Did you know that first bulb (one that was actually invented) is still working? Tell me why all the bulbs you buy these days go off in few months (for better comparison think about ordinary bulb and not fluorescent etc). Think the answer is quite simple ...

That went well for the original Galaxy Tab. They really couldn't care less. It seems each device gets 1 major update. Maybe well get it as its rolling out fairly soon, but I'm not holding my breath.
On a side note, we've got quite a bounty to claim if Samsung deliver an update.

It's very common in our community to dramatize a bit and being too pessimistic. People that mention i9000's example seem to forget that galaxy s got:
- 7 major firmware updates (2.1, 2.2, 2.2.1, 2.3.3, 2.3.4, 2.3.5 and 2.3.6- two years after release!!!!)
- To compare Galaxy S2 has received 5 such so far (2.3.3, 2.3.4, 2.3.5, 2.3.6 and 4.0.3). So I really don't understand what this pessimism is all about? Why should Samsung suddenly abandon the crown king of 2011 exactly at this moment, 14 months after release?

I agree completely... I think there is a good chance we will see 4.1... no one was really expecting jb just 6 months after ics and as mentioned since this was their flagship, there's a good chance they will hook us up just to keep hold of the loyal customers... if samsung knew jb was so nearby they probably wouldn't even have bothered giving us a ics update and jumped to jelly...!!

Well guys, is this true ? Acording to yourmobile.org:
Samsung GALAXY S II GT-I9100 is the previous flagship Android device from Samsung, who has been replaced with the Galaxy S III. Lately, Galaxy S II users received the ICS 4.0.3 update in many regions and U.S. users update has been delayed. Users who already updated their device to 4.0.3 is facing some bugs & issues and asking about future Updates to ICS 4.0.4, like the one on the Galaxy S III.Unfortunately, According to our sources, Samsung have no plans to Update the Galaxy S II I9100 to ICS 4.0.4, the main reason is not yet clear.
However, Samsung won't leave the users with these bugs and planning to release a Minor OTA (Over The Air) Update to fix these bugs by the end of the year, probably about Q4,2012 or may be earlier, but do NOT expect this minor software to upgrade your device to any further ICS build version (4.0.4) or even to JellyBean (4.1.0).
Are you retarded ?? Search before you post fool!! And S2 will the 4.0.4 update
Highly doubt it.
Galaxy S went from 2.1 > 2.2 > 2.3 (2 major updates)
So far S2 has gone 2.3 > 4.0 (1 major update)
So we're due at least 4.1!
Samsung's got 4.0.4 working already on S3, meaning they have touchwiz working with the new Android version, so to not give it to us would be not only lazy but downright disrespectful to customers who paid £400+ on this FLAGSHIP phone. It hasn't been 18 months yet, we should still get support. And as for Q4 2012 for a minor release? 6 months for just bug fixes? That really would be pushing it too far.
If this turns out to be true, which I think unlikely, but if it does then I am not buying Samsung again. Only a Google Nexus or Windows Phone 8.

Korean manufacturer Samsung has kept its mouth shut about Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update. Until now, there is no official word from the company which of its devices would be getting Google’s latest mobile operating system.
However, experts believe that the company is just trying to tease everyone who is intently waiting for the much anticipated update. Eventually, it will come before this year would be over, others say. Analysts also say that Android 4.1 Jelly Bean could become one of Samsung’s weapons to pose a competition with the upcoming Apple iPhone 5.
SamsungGalaxyS3
It is not a matter of whether GS3 will be getting Jelly Bean or not; rather, it is all about when the update would arrive. Being the most popular and best-selling smartphone, the manufacturer couldn’t just afford to leave its patrons in limbo. While there is no official word from Samsung yet, rumors and reports suggest that Galaxy S3 may be receiving an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update via Samsung KIES or over the air in the last quarter.
Sam Mobile reported that the company might release information about Jelly Bean update this month or in September, at least, that’s the good news. On the negative side, other reports suggest Jelly Bean update for GS3 is pushed back to 2013. But then again, none of these reports were confirmed by Samsung.
But what do you think? Will it be this year or in 2013?
SamsungGalaxyS2
Samsung is reportedly testing Jelly Bean for Galaxy S2, however, there is no confirmation whether this handset will be getting the latest OS or not. The test is being conducted to determine whether Android 4.1 will run smoothly on the device without issues.
Galaxy S2 was originally released with Android 2.3 Gingerbread pre-installed and it was only just recently that it received a generous update to Ice Cream Sandwich. The porting of ICS was actually successful and the OS works like a charm on the device.
Considering the fact that Jelly Bean uses the fundamental architecture of ICS, there is a greater possibility that it will also run without issues on Galaxy S2. If the result of the test would be successful, GS2 owners may be able to receive the update in 4th quarter.
SamsungGalaxy Note
Being one of the premium devices from Samsung, Galaxy Note couldn’t just be left hanging with ICS on it. There is no information for now whether it would get the latest OS but if Samsung is testing out a Jelly Bean port for Galaxy S2, there’s a possibility it is also seeking to update this handset.
Originally released with Gingerbread out of the box, Galaxy Note performs perfectly with ICS after updates were rolled out. That should be enough to assume it could run Jelly Bean as well.
XDA Developers, a group of Android hackers who develop custom ROMs, have released a teaser showing Galaxy Note running on custom Jelly Bean OS, although they are still in the process of fine-tuning the firmware to work perfectly on Note’s hardware. The thing is, if third-party developers found a way to make the firmware run on the device, Samsung can too.
SamsungGalaxyNexus
Google started rolling out Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on July 11th with Galaxy Nexus HSPA+ as one of the luckiest devices to receive it first. The update was actually rolled out after the device was made available on Google Play Store following the court ruling to continue the sales of the said devices.
For the benefit of those who haven’t known yet, Samsung is in a nasty battle against Apple over patent infringement and Galaxy Nexus is one of the devices subjected to sales ban in the U.S. The Korean manufacturer, however, was able to convince the court to let the sales of Galaxy Nexus continue. Google did not waste precious time to promote the device with Jelly Bean.
SamsungNexusS
The Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for Samsung Nexus S started rolling out on July 20th as reported by Gotta Be Mobile. During such time, many Nexus S owners also reported to have received notification about the update so Google actually kept its word.
For owners who have not received the update yet, it is advised they will contact their carriers for more information about the roll out. Some carriers have actually pushed back the update and many are still waiting until now. But the thing is the update is coming for Nexus S for sure.
Ina Nutshell
Jelly Bean is an incremental upgrade and it basically uses the architecture of ICS to deliver the features Google promised. That explains why it comes as Android 4.1 and not the rumored 5.0. Samsung is yet to provide information regarding Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update and the abovementioned devices are among the ones that would surely get the latest OS.

its said that all devices will receive updates for 18 months after release.
I highly doubt the S2 will receive it, I think the Note might just squeeze into that time frame.
Either way I dont care If I got JB I wouldnt be using it stock anyway, And im 100,000,000,000,000% sure we will get a stable JB Custom ROM Theres already a few in progress at the moment!
I think they will be releasing the Note 2 with JB (or should I say im hoping they will)

jelly bean 4.2.2 is definitely the latest that i expected.
the s2 is too old but still good.
morover the most of us will get a new phone very soon because of the contracts.
and this phone will get android 5 or higher in the future.
Gonna upgrade to another manufacturer i think...since the uk galaxy s4 will be a snapdragon based model and not the octocore we were hoping for...key lime pie will be nice.

Still not sufficient. A 650€ flagship should be supported more than 2 years and 2 poor versions. Ics & JB...
Or at least let the community do their job...
I totally agree, and don't understand the attitude of some people here... I didn't buy the phone just to replace it at the end of contract. It's still working perfect and I don't see the need for a replacement. Samsung should just let the community handle the updates if they are to lazy to do it themselves.
S2 till it dies, and when it does, another s2.
Fu*k it, I'll buy a couple s2 when they get 300 bucks cheap here (It's still at 600 bucks unbranded, 400 branded, crazy).

Ok, chill out now, no need to get sentimental.
I really wanna see 5.0 and what it's all about, I'm somewhat skeptical on the gigant upgrade that would represent against JB.
If a couple of devs make it work with no issues on their ROMs I don't see why we can't lobby up and ask for that update.
I mean, samsung devs vs xda devs...I'm sticking with our troops.
One thing's for sure, if the galaxy nexus gets it, I'll burn tires right in front of Samsung.

As stated by GSMArena website there will be no Android 5.0 update for Galaxy S2 and obviously should apply to the variants too.
Although this news is leaked from the company's insider, it may be true. This news may be highly disappointing to many. Here's the link. Go ahead check it out.

that's too bad..
Yes, if Samsung would now release all the sources (required by the license) we could keep upgrading our devices on our own. The S2 community has done a fabulous job, and we would get some disaffected devs back if we had all the sources. This is still a great phone. I'd hazard to say that there aren't many (any?) other 2 year old phones that still run this well on the "latest" software. I agree it might be still going strong in 4 years. Due to Samsung's intransigence however I think my next has to be Nexus. But it's hard to justify giving this up. Despite a faded screen, and reduced capacity of the battery, it still screams smoothly!
