Just became an owner of the new Nexus 7. The soft navigation keys that are part of the OS take so much screen real estate.
Is there a way to hide/unhide them?
Is there a specific rom or launcher that has that option?
Thanks.
Team eos has this option. You could permanently disable them and use LMNT. Which are like the browser quick nav buttons.

I assume the blue part of your image is what you refering to as lmnt? Can it be recalled on demand and hidden when not needed?
I also see the soft keys on the bottom of your image. They can be disbled in this rom, right? А

Yes you swipe from the left or right to draw them out. And yes team eos had the ability in the power menu selecting "system bars mode" will disable/enable them.

I only found HideBar by Pieter Pareit; are we talking about the same app?
Has anyone developed a way to customize the bottom System Bar? Add / remove icons?

Sort of ... but its better to have it built into the ROM then using an app.
Um yeah? Its called every ROM that uses aokp or Cm10 framework LOL.
Are you for real? Its hardly noticeable, it uses very minimal real estate and hides itself when it needs it (the real estate) the most.

I personally use GMD GestureControl. It allows you to set various multitouch/singletouch gestures. I have it set up so that 4 finger swipe up hides the status bar and the softkeys. In addition, 4/5 finger pinch closes current app (emulates home button), 4/5 fingers left or right scroll through recent apps (these gestures are stolen from iPad)

Hi all,
Is there a way to hide the navigation bar when typing, whether rooted/custom roms or stock? When typing quickly in landscape (with swiftkey) I keep pushing home by accident.
Thanks.
Team EOS just released a stable rom that allows you to hide the navigation bars (holding the power button). It works great but I found using gmd gesture control (recommended in a similar thread) to be much more effective and easy to use. It has lots more options than just hiding the navigation bars. With all the new and programmable gestures I really am beginning to use my nexus differently. Even though it takes a little getting used to.

hiding is easy, but its kind of tiring to do if its just for typing a sentence or two. if youre in for fullscreen browsing it is an option most roms have. i use it mostly for playing games.
another option is phoneUI, which surprisingly works pretty neat, i also like the notificationdropdown better. it makes way in landscape orientation just like on your phone.
another take would be to blow up the keyboard, maybe your fingers like it better. pa can individually change apps, even keyboards to any size or form you want.
yet another option would be the phoneUI keyboard, this is what i use and i find it better to type on. i use it with systemUI set to tabUI so i dont get these fat bottons down there anyway.
Thanks a lot guys, I'm completely stock at the moment but will be rooting soon, especially with this. Just got to sort through which rom I want!
@toid, that looks brilliant, would like to have those other gestures too. Thanks!
So I've rooted now and got the GMD Gestures, loving them! Will be installing Paranoid once it's updated to 4.1.2

Can you rotate this image

So that it's pointing to the right rather than up, and also rotate it so that it's pointing left? I try to do it in my Gallery app but then I can't use it on my NavBar . I wanted to be able to use it ad a custom image for my navbar icons
Also, can you mirror this one
Same deal with the above. I want to be able to use it ad a custom icon for my navbar

Here it is (I made it all because I didn't undersatnd very well what you wanted exactly...)
Thanks, but I can't use them
The red block in the bottom left is one if the icons you rotated
The background needs to be transparent somehow and I have no idea how to make it transparent
If this is too hard to do I'll settle with just one simple line that matches the height of the predator navbarset's back and recent button's top line

Try these one and then let me know the one you prefer and what precisely you want (I mean forother images) :good:

There !
Let me know if you want it more centered because on those ones I just cut, turn and it might not be centered as if it was the original.

WHOLE EXPLANATION: So I notice that in devices like the galaxy s4 or Optimus G, in which they have a capacitive menu button, the 3-dot buitl-in menu in apps is not present (Obvious right?) but the thing is, in those devices, when you hit the hardware menu key, the menu appears on the bottom of the screen, whereas in the nexus 4 the menu appears on top of the 3-dot button wherever it is (the position of the in-app menu button depends on the app), this is annoying me since I have disabled the navbar to get more screen realstate and Im relying on gesture control, I set a swipe up gesture form the bottom of the screen for the menu, and its annoying because even without the navbar, the menus keep appearing on top of the freaking 3-dot button, I WANT THAT 3-DOT BUTTON GONE FROM MY APPS! just like in devices that have a hardware key for menu, that way menus would appear from the bottom of the screen on every app and my gesture would look awesome, kinda like in ubuntu touch, thats my goal.
MAIN QUESTION: How do I disable the freaking 3-dot in-app menu button? which files do I have to edit? Please I do not want to change my current rom for some other one that has this option built in... I just wanna know which files to edit, maybe in built.prop or something.
Thanks in Advance..
Screenshot of what you're saying.. Because the 3 dots ARE for the menu or options inside the app.. At the bottom right, right?

NO, this is what I'm talking about, the menu comes out of that 3 dot button once you hit it,

I want it to be like THIS, no 3 dot built in-app, but when I do the menu gesture, it comes from the bottom like this
Rootbox ROM has this feature (and it is actually working), you should try that and see if it works for you
Pretty much you will have to rewrite most of the system to get it removed completely.

There's no way to do this unless you get another ROM. Try any of them though, a lot have the ability to add a soft key menu button at the bottom (AOKP for example).

No it can be done. It is just alot of work.

The reason you have those is because it looks like you're using full screen..

simply use RootBox,, he has this feature,, and work like a charm
For HTC One with firmware 4.2.2 or above, there is a very handy multi-control panel with can allow users enable and disable many features like Wifi, Data, Auto-rotation etc.

However, the stupid Google UI design has made it very slow and complicated to launch the panel with 2 fingers simultaneously or swipe the notification bar down first and press the button to launch Control Panel.
Finally, I figured out a way to launch the Multi-control Panel instantly using one finer
It does NOT require root.
Here are the steps:
1. Download two apps at Google Play: "Nova Launcher" and "Swiping Home Button"
(The second app is a paid app, so you know it...)
2. Launch "Swiping Home Button and click "Binding"
3. You can customize your gesture here and personally I prefer to launch Control Panel by swiping up right (the one with Chinese word)
4. Click on the gesture you like and assign a shortcut to it. We are going to choose "App shortcut" here.
5. Choose "Nova Launcher"
6. Finally, choose "Extended Quick Settings"
You are DONE ! Enjoy the Multi-Control Panel instantly with one finger !
Demonstration Video:
Hey Mate,
Does it mean that Nova Launcher has to be running at the background all times?
I really not sure. But I don't recognize any negative effect in terms of the phone's performance caused by this trick.

Yes. Also, Nova Launcher has gestures as well so I don't get the use of this.

Well, if you use this, then you can still use the Sense Launcher!

I just can't understand why Samsung would eliminate the one feature I truly like about TouchWiz, ie, the alphabetical list mode for the app drawer with the little letter tabs along the right-hand side to quickly jump through the list. Am I just missing something? I would really like to believe it is my stupidity in not figuring out how to turn it on, and not their stupidity in removing it for no reason.
If it really is gone, is there any way to bring it back on a rooted phone? I prefer not to use a 3rd party launcher.
Hit the 3 dots on the upper left side of the phone (your right) and select view as

Thanks for your reply. I do realize how to make the icons in the app drawer alphabetical. What I am talking about is the much more useful alphabetical list mode, as shown in the screenshot from my Galaxy Note 3.

Alphabetical LIST (not grid) is SUUUUCH a useful feature. I dont understand why they removed it in the latest software because its a step backward in doing so.
I've looked everywhere for an answer to this and everyone simply replies to the thread failing to realize that its a vertical scrolling LIST view (like your contacts), NOT swiping grid we are asking for. Doesnt anyone have a mod or solution?
This was one reason, not the only one but one, why I decided to stay with my HTC One M8 and sold the Galaxy S5. I have sinced move on to the LG G3 but I still wish I had that alphabetical list mode!
I cant imagine why there cant be a mod for this.
A toggle switch would also be nice for the new volte feature too.
