Defy Fastest ROM ??? fast reply thanks - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm fixing up a Motorola Defy(green lense) I would like to know what the fastest 100% functional rom is ?
Cheers Marcus

What do you mean by 100% functional ?

cyanogenmod 7.2... fast, reliable, 100% functional.
but it wouldnt hurt searching, would it? 60% of the threads are about which rom is the best/fastest/most funtional...
sent from my jellybean defy...

try cm 10 builds by quarx.
they run very good, and work perfect, i havent noticed any serious problems yet

Official CM7.2 would probably be fastest/most stable.
http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=jordan
Scroll down to stable release.
Do not install CM10. It's great, but it is slower than cm7 and has a few minor bugs.

Cm7.2 is really fast but have the worst battery life :crying:
my favorite cm7 based rom is Whiterabbit ... is fast , stable and have good battery life.

whiterabbit. it's the fastest rom i ever used on my defy. ori cm9 and cm10 are not fast and responsive enough for me. maybe because i have 200+ apps on my phone. but whiterabbit works great!

[Q] custom rom for defy

Hey
I am using my Motorola defy with Android 2.2.
But now i want to install a smooth and fast custom rom, because my defy is getting slow and particularly boring.
Which rom would you recommend ?
I think you developed Android 2.3 or even 4.0.
I am searching for something which works in all, so i mean ,, no bugs''!
So give me a prposal
Hi! I've been using CM7.2 RC1 since the release and I found no problems with it at all. It's smooth, battery life is great, performance also. I wouldn't recommend you CM9 builds for daily use since they are still buggy. Either CM7.1 or CM7.2 RC1 is good option.
+1 on CM7.2RC1 for best performance/options/less bugs
Also take a look at MIUI roms if you like the style...
I believe MS2Ginger from Walter is best rom till date. It has gingerbread and works for Green lense defy too.
What else you want?
I use CM9 nightly. No problems at all. Search for Epsylon's build ( froyo kernel). Battery life excelent, phone is superfast!

Using CM9 Nightly as well and have only small bugs/issues (e.g. video rec doesn't work yet and I get a bad preview on highest zoom stage with camera).
No Problems with CM7 at all.

New to the Defy - most recent stable rom

Hi,
I've picked up a motorola defy, and am wondering what is the most recent e.g ICS, rom that is stable and everything works?
So far i've rooted the phone and that's about it.
It's a 2.51 UK phone.
I'm familiar with the HTC Desire S roms, but haven't a clue when it comes to the Defy.
I've searched through the dev forum, but can't quite get an indication of what's what.
Sorry for the noob question.
Thanks for any replies.
Did you maybe already found out if it has green (SOC) lens or red (bayer) lens camera module? SOC only works on Froyo kernels, while bayer works on both Froyo and Gingerbread kernels. (Which is not of great importance, cause almost all ROM's are available for both kernels)
Anyways... What do you like? Here are some of my recommendations...
For MIUI v2 - Pikachu MIUI (WIUI comes 2nd, as Pikachu had fewer bugs for me and was overall snappier)
For MIUI v4 - WIUI v4
For CM7(.2) - maniac103's builds or FuZZ's KANG's - almost the same, but details do make them different
For CM9 - Epsylon3 made the latest CM9 builds with the final fixes and touches
For AOKP ICS - There's a Milestone 6 coming up soon, built by Kayant (he's building from source, port's can't compare with that)
For JellyBean - I must say I would recommend ParanoidAndroid, which is based on CMX, but somehow manages to be snappier and much better at RAM management. AOKP JP alpha is snappy, too, when compared to CMX. Although the CMX I'm talking about is the one build by Quarx, but people do say tha Epsylon's builts are better performance-wise.
Thanks.
From the looks of my lens it's bayer.
Are any of those roms a default/minimal ice cream sandwich? That's all i'm after really, as I guess jelly bean will have loads of stuff not working correctly yet.
Actually CM10 is working as good as CM9, maybe better. But I must say, I switched to CM10 since the 2nd nightly, and never went back to CM9, so maybe there was an improvement since that in CM9 nightlys...
But you should try them all and choose which you like

When you say minimal, I'm assuming you mean feature-wise, not GUI-wise, so I guess the best choice for you would be to wait up for AOSP Jelly Bean which Kayant is trying to build from source here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1824551
If you don't want Jelly Bean, but ICS, then I think this is the way to go - CM9 Moto Ice Gun - http://www.custom-android.de/portfolio/cm9-motoicegun-edition/ (you can find it in the defy development forum, too). Most of the guys who tested it claim that it's the fastest ICS ROM for the Defy.

i still think , that CM9 is the most stable rom for defy
CM9 is fatser then GB , ICS if definitely better then GB in all terms
so a recent stable rom - CM9 .
but in near future , if TI releases proper SGX drivers for our devices .. then , m sure CM10 will be the most stable rom for defy .
IMHO I would choose CM10
What Kayant is doing isn't pure AOSP. It has some fixes!
I was talking with Quarx recently and he said that CM10 is very similar to pure AOSP..so trust me...go CM10

I've given AOKP ICS milestone 5 a go.
Seems to be lacking polish compared to the HTC ICS roms with sense 3.6 - I guess that's something i'm going to have to get used to. I don't like his boot screen either.
When I say minimal i mean without a bunch of pre-installed stuff like games, twitter etc..
Boot screen can be changed for one you like

All ROMs are minimal then!
They come only with essential apps preinstalled (DSP manager, HWA Settings and FM Radio) + default ROM ones (phone..camera...you know)

I can't have working tether since CM9 from Quarx or E....
I don't know whether I'm using BL6 kernel (2.3.6) on Defy which cause this problem.
Also, since CM9, I can't play myTV (apps from TVB) live broadcast.
Anyone can help to try it on your CM9/10? Here is the apps:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.quickplay.tvbmytv
Quarx,no doubt, he develops this. Anyways, if it includes some apps you don't want or some to add simply do this with an archiver manager on computer...
Hi all!
What stable ROM do you guys recommend for Defy green lens? I recently installed the most stable CM7 and I like but there are some thing I don't quite like, like the incompatibility with Titanium backup, the vibration issue for notifications, and the battery life didn't improve significantly. So, I am looking for the one but without having to flash 7-8 roms, that where you guys coming in, which rom out there is the best and stable for defy green lens?
And if you could include a download link would be great, because I encountered so many sites with links and versions and rom and kernels, and this and that, that is confusing for a newbie like me.
Thank you!

You could try with cm11, goes very well, but has some bugs with bluetooth, calls and other stuff, you could try the 20-01-14 build, or you can try the latest build of cm10.2 by quarx

Thank you for your answer. I will try that. I have another issue though last night I charged my phone, today it was at 98% well I went online to check my email and the battery went from 98% to 5% like in 7 minutes, and the main reason I flashing my phone was because battery life, I guess the joke was on me! :crying:

Both, lol, my battery is 2+ years old and I should try CM10.
From all the CM10 and 11 what version is the most stable? If I flash it could I go back to stock eventually? (keep in mind that I have a Defy green lens) because if these custom roms don't work quite as smooth I think I'm going to ended up flashing the stock rom.
Diego, Thanx for all the help!

STABLE / Fully working roms

I use Cyangenmod 7.2 downloaded from the cyanogenmod website. I use it everyday and works perfectly
CM7 is the most stable and it is still being developed, albeit at a very slow pace (check their website for nightlies). All the ICS roms are still in testing and are good enough for daily use so long as you can deal with some minor bugs here and there. I'm using Evervolv ICS and it's good enough for me, though CM7 is noticably faster.
Evervolv ICS (last not official build with some new commits) is the most stable rom for me!
I prefer JB 4.1.1 evervolv @reider123

CM9/10 or SlimROMS

This phone is going with my sister so needs to be stable and have everything working. I currently have CM9.1 stable on this and it seems very stable so far. I thinking of either upgrading to the latest CM9 nightly or going going straight to the latest and greatest CM10 nightly.
What do you guys recommand, stay with stable or upgrade to CM9/10 Nightly??
Currently the latest CM9 nightly is from 2012-09-16, can anyone comment that is running it?
Or what about the Slim Roms?
I think that from stable version (cm9) roms are stable.
Slimics seems faster than cm and is also stable. Both ROMs work good.
So I don't know which ROM recommend you. I was more satisfied with slim ROM.
I haven't tested cm10 yet.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
i'm leaning towards slim as well because CM seems to slow down to a crawl when installing apps. YAY/NAY?
I'm running cm10, and it working fantastic for me. Every device responds differently, so why not test a slim out and compare. If u don't like it, just change it before u give it to ur sister.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
both are very good roms, i prefer cm10 or any other rom based on cm10
If I were you, I would just stay on CM9.1 stable or at least wait for CM10 RC1.
my biggest complain for CM 9.1 is 911 does not work, I wonder if this works on Slim. Can anyone confirm?
My 3 year old nephew has major allergies and this is the only phone she has and 911 is a MUST.
Just try dialing and see if it works and if it does just tell them you are testing 911 for phone software and they will understand. I have done this will another device and they said "yup its working" and I was good.
Triple S
Slim Sexy Stable
Last CM9 nightly is very stable and excellent for daily usage (in fact is 9.1.0 + some small fixes)
CM10 is working good also, but there are some small issues to be fixed (photo to external SD, direct dial in lock screen, some missing features from CM9)
I don't know about Slim, but between CM9 and CM10, I would pick latest CM9.

Sorry, in Europe is 112. Somebody from US should comment on 911
112 works for me both cm10 and 9.

I think it might be the modem or because i did a restore of CM9 right after going 100% stock and not installing stable 9.1 zip first.
In Mexico is 060 and it works fine for me. I'm using ugkg3 modem due to 850mhz support. About the roms... I tried both and Slim it's more customizable than CM, both are super fast and are stable enough to use it as daily drive. Right now I'm running the last CM10 nightly + semaphore 2.4.0 and it's super smooth... I recommend you to try both roms and decided which one do you like better
P.D. Sorry for my bad english

[Q] Defy 525 - looking for solid rom?

a long time ago i had a stock defy. i sold it and now i just bought one again. yeah!
i am looking for a solid and tough phone for outdoor/sports/festivals/catproof and so the decision to buy one was easy.
for business i use a htc one s with custom rom and so i started looking for a custom rom for the defy. seems not so easy. i found a lot of roms but the more i found the more it confused me. at least i need this phone to be stable, not too slow and long running (=no bugs). cm7 seems to be perfect, ecxept the RIL bug.
any suggestions which rom i should take a look at?
whould it be easier to stay stock and just root?

Uhm.. I think CM10.2's battery life is draining quite faster than MIUI ( I had MIUI like 4-5 months ago.. so.. ).
Quarx's work is awesome, this is a quite stable rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1768702
I have a wifi problem with the last version, but it seems that I am the only one, so you cold try and see if it suits you
Try one of quarx CM ROMs (10,10.1 or 10.2), or SlimROM.
If u need bluetooth, use CM 10 from quarx, because it's the only one that has working bluetooth from the JB ROM's (or any other CM10 quarx based ROM).
for me CM7 is the more stable and quick (WIUI GB is nice too)
CM10 works fine also, but a bit slower than GB
so if you don't really need android 4 go for CM7/WIUI GB, or the other CM7 based depending of your taste !

Hi guys!
Can you please tell me wich 10.2 build version are you using?
I have green lens but in any of the 10.2 I have tried, works the video recording on my defy.
I do enjoy installing new roms, patches, updates but right now I am on an 10.1 CM version because of that.
I read that a mokee 4.3 version and a 4.3 (from Quarx thread) are working like a charm but I can not find the right one.
I will apreciate any help.
