[Q] Wireless chipset and monitor mode - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What wireless chipset does the Nexus 7 use ?
I was reading the following website and wondered what would be required to enable monitoring mode on the Nexus 7, which could be quite useful.
Are the kernel modules re-compiled to add in code for this feature or is there more to it ?

Join the cause man I need all the help I can get compiling

Oh and the nex 7 uses brodcom4330 chip set so all we have to do is compile the dhd.ko module from source to work in our kernel

Than you must have differnet N7 as I.
Mine uses the AzureWave AW-NH665 wireless module.

[Q] Voodoo Sound on the N7?

I know the app store says that it isn't compatible, but I'd like to hear your opinions. Do you guys think that it might be / know that it is possible to use Voodoo Sound on the Nexus 7?

Seeing as how the audio hardware in the Nexus 7 is completely unrelated (not a Wolfson) to those of any of the previously supported devices in Voodoo Sound, I'm going to assume the Nexus 7 will never be supported.

Never say never. Supercurio tweeted the other day that one of his long term goals is to make a universal voodoo sound to run on any phone. He said no eta but a goal of his.

More than this, I haven't owned a device yet that he hasn't at least worked with developers to port his modifications. It's very likely that we will have support for voodoo sound eventually, although I will say Tegra devices are typically more challenging.
Implementation will be kernel specific, so keep an eye on the kernel devs for Voodoo support.

What this guy said. The Nexus 7 uses a Realtek audio chip not a Wolfson which has open source drivers that supercurio can modify to create near perfect sound.

Nexus 4 WiFi calling portable?

I know the phone won't have WiFi calling because it will have no Carrier tie ins. But i am not familiar with how WiFi calling works. I assume its in the kernel and some sort of framework edit.
Is it possible?

Exactly ! It is absolutely possible but it might be a while before it is 100% stable since its kinda of a lot of work and normally doesn't attract a lot if DEVS due to fact that only works in T-Mobile USA and its not exactly glamorous work (like a ROM or a super fast OC UV KERNEL)

MHL Cable question for Nexus 7 and s3 compatibility

MHL is hardware, not software, so it isn't possible. There has been talk of miracast, which is a wifi display device standard, but it sounds like that needs further research and developent to see if it works on the nexus 7, whether it be a hardware or software problem.

Have you had any luck yet?
I am looking to connect several Nexus 4 (mako) devices together using wifi ad-hoc mode, but the Nexus 4 uses a different Wi-Fi chipset than most devices. There has been good work done on the Broadcom chipset (Google search for: thinktube IBSS), but I am having difficulty finding anything for the Murata Wi-Fi chip which is found in Nexus 4 according to ifixit.
There are ROMs that have ad-hoc built in

Please Help. WiFi Download speed is TOO LOW

Hey guys...I have posted in many threads but was not getting an answer...So I created this thread...Im having a serious WIFi crisis...My downloading speed is very very low..I have a 1MB line...but my max download speed is like 3-4 KBs...I have tried many things...There was a thread with wifi issue and a possible fix...Tried that with no success...I have unchecked the wifi optimization in settings too...Also tried installing franco's kernel, that didnt help either...
So is there a solutiin or do I have to live like this...as i cant return to google as a rma ...
P.S My other android phones had no problem on this router...
Thanks..

Does this only happen on your router or all wifi signals.
Only thing I can think of is updating the router software and see if this changes things at all.

When you say you've tried another possible fix.. Were you talking about system/etc/WiFi/ WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini trick?

That's really weird because I used that same method to fixing my WiFi problem and it works. Double check to see if you changed the right one.. =\ all I can say man
Google Nexus 4
Turn off BMPS (Set it to 0) in the wifi ini. This should theoretically remove all slowdowns but will prevent your phone from sleeping (with wifi on). Another solution is to download Franco Kernel with Prima Drivers and force wireless G mode in the ini.

Anyway here you go: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2272140
This includes the latest Franco Kernel (Way Better than M2) + Prima Drivers. Try to test this first before we force wireless G mode
