Game performance improvement!!! try this:) - Xperia Arc General

Please remove your nice shiny phone protectors(cover) while playing video games It can cause serious performance issues(due to heat build up as phones don't have cooling fans)....Just thought I should share

Arc S has one factory built-on, but it can be removed. Do you mean that one? Mine got scratched a bit but I'm afraid the screen is also scratched.

No not the phones own body....I am talking about additional protective slicone cases which you can buy from any store

You have a misconception there.. Heat build up won't cause performance decrease.

Yess, It's True

heat
I recently installed large heatsink in my router's chassis, what i thought would make it perform better (through much larger heat dissipation) actually made it worse, the ventilation isnt good in the small case. The performance of the router took a toll, so removing it was the next step.
Since these all devices have small chassis, there might be some truth to these claims.

Device lifespan and efficiency will deteriorate if stay too long in high temp.

Battery/Phone Getting Very Hot

Hey everyone -
Not sure if you've experienced this but I have the At&t HTC One 32GB model and I noticed that it heats up when watching videos or even downloading something. It gets over 100F as I have a battery monitor which informs me and I feel how uncomfortable it is. anyone else expericing this and maybe we'll need to root and Use Set CPU to add a profile which underclocks the CPU when it goes over 90 or something like that
I could just have a faulty device but i've read a few articles where people mentioned this but it doesn't get much attention -probably because people don't wanna bad mouth the phone so to speak. who knows
Maybe a Kernel and software update will help along with battery drain.

The heat is normal, you will find that the SoC can safely go up to 60 degrees Celsius and possibly more. The reason you feel it is due to aluminium being very good at dissipating the heat and as your hands are touching the metal, they conduct that heat
Its really just a case of either getting a case/cover. OR hold the device with two hands with the bottom of your palm (wrist end) pressed into the two sides of the phone (landscape) This way you get minimal heat to your hands and the device can cool itself as more air will get to the back

sounds great but it even heats up when the case is on it.. all phones heat up but this is pretty hot. i bet if they did that melting butter experiment with this chip, it will melt with absolutely no problem lol. this may sound strange but sometimes when im holding it and its hot, i use my mind and it cools down off and on.. goodness knows i be trynna make that work because i know how everything is really connected but yeah
hope they address this somehow
thank you for your response and others

Yeah its just due to the metal honestly. In plastic phones the area where the SoC is gets extremely hot and just as unbearable to touch. BUT as this is an aluminium unibody the heat spreads all over. The reason I said to hold the top and bottom of the device where the speakers are is because there is a plastic strip separating the middle piece of metal from the two sides, meaning these sides are cooler to hold.
Yes, mine one can get quite hot especially when I play game. However one the other hand, I find it cooling down extremely fast comparing to my GS3 which does take time to warm up also to go back to comfortable temperature.
Must due to the aluminum back which transfers the heat faster than plastic.

In my experience, gets One XL got noticeably hotter than the One when performing the same tasks.
Everyones heat tolerance is different. Phone gets WARM when im watching video. Couple minutes later it's not hot. So it's definateky not a issue.
Plastic insulates the heat, aluminum dissipates heat. No brainer here

Previous posters hit it right on the head. The aluminium body acts just like a heat sink sucking moving heat from inside out and then your hands act like an insulator keeping the heat there. The OG Droid did the same thing. It's just part of having this design. Keep in mind though it does an excellent job of stopping your phone from hitting critical internal tempetures.

Heating problem (Not sure if I'm facing it)

My friend had told me that this one is likely to suffer from heating problem.
I've just bought one yesterday. The production information as follows; February 2013 in Korea.
Normally when it is connected to the usb cable for charging, no heat is observable. However, when I graph it and start using a little, like going through settings menu, checking the photos on album and stuff like that, its upper part gets a little warm. I mean it is not too hot to touch but you can tell the difference between the bottom and top of the phone. When playing games, the heat is much more perceivable.
The phone I was using before that one was a low level phone, so never ever faced such problem on it.
So, is this normal ? Or do I have to take the necessary actions and change it as I have the time to do so.
Or is there a certain way me to try if it is really defective or not ? Cause I can't be sure either I'm so picky or it is really defective.
Thanks in advance.
It's because of the glass. The phone doesn't produce any more heat than it should. In fact some phones run hotter. The glass conducts the heat and you feel it. There are probably 20 threads about this already. Please search next time.

That is what I'm saying, yes. The device will throttle the cpu to take care of the heat. Charging will produce more heat. This is all normal behavior. Stop worrying and enjoy your Nexus.

Did anyone notice the ouya gets pretty warm after being on for awhile.

Not anything to worry about but an extra vent wouldn't hurt. Also the heat wave doesn't hurt.

All these years and the never learn cooling is the most important thing in technology. I guess ouya better hope it can take the heat or they will have to replace them.

I completely agree... I've been saying this for years... Lol
Difficult in such a small form factor but I'm more than positive this would have been one of the first issues they ran into.
I'm surprised though, why they used an aluminium heatsink over a small copper one and some decent thermal paste. It looks like a thermal pad...
I also noticed that the fins on the heatsink are thicker in one direction than the other, so the heat is trying to escape from the larger gaps... Which run right to the side of the case and against the NIC. I guess it would have helped rotating it 45 degrees so it escapes out the top and bottom quicker
Maybe its just mine though

I still have yet to have any heating issues, most of the time it is warm to the touch after an extended use, but nothing to worry about. I won't be modding my first OUYA at all so I'm hoping it stays that way (it's the special edition one), but I plan on buying a second one down the line to mess around with.
Truthfully, my phone gets hotter after a half hour of use than my OUYA does after 4 hours.
Yeah it doesn't get that hot but you think they would put I vent in the top since heat rises. Also a console this small should be cold as ice.

That doesn't seem all that high to be honest around normal desktop cpu numbers? Although the high end 70ish could be troublesome with warmer weather that should arrive any day now.

The standard throttling temperature for a Tegra 3, where it starts to underclock, is at 75°C
So there is not too much room left for overclocking!
Soon we will see better printed cases I'm sure.

G3 Build quality thread

I've had my G3 for about a week now and I absolutely love the device. I'd like to have a discussion about build quality of the device since there's some things I've noticed with my 32gb D855 model that I'm wondering if others have had also.
1) The digitizer is quite noticeable, I guess my eyes have adjusted a bit now but it is there and quite noticeable when I pay attention
2) The back plate is screaming poor quality: it is very creaky near the top above the infrared and also around the volume down key you can really press the device and hear it creaking like a Samsung device
3) Unfortunately after caring for it with my life somehow the back cover got a huge scratch..I don't possibly know from what..a fleck of dust in the air or Something but still this shouldn't have gotten such an ugly huge scratch so easily!
4) Dust/sand or dirt is easily getting into the bezels right where the screen ends
5) As mentioned in another thread I've had the spontaneous shut down but let's not delve into that on this thread
Anyone else want to share their experiences?

I managed to put a 2inch scratch on the back and I'm so carefull but managed to scratch it.

Just got mine yesterday but #2 is not an issue for me. The back is very solid and doesn't have any flex at all. I am going to put a slim case on mine though and I already have a tempered glass screen shield.
Well, mine seems pretty solid so far (got mine on Monday), the only thing from your list i noticed as well is the dust at the bezel, but it's not really in the bezel, it's just sticking at the edges, because the bezel is slightly higher than the screen, that's a bit annoying, but not really bad, because it can be easily swiped away. Except of that, I'm pretty pleased with the build quality so far, looks and feels premium, just the back doesn't feel that slick, because of the plastic, but it's still not bad at all.
Oh, and the back buttons are slightly too hard to push, but that's also not a big deal.
So, great device, I'm a happy owner^^

Do we have the same device?
1: I can barely see the digitizer unless i shine a bright light into the screen.
2: the back cover on mine fits perfectly, to the millimeter. The only creaking i hear is if i try to twist the device at either end which is acceptable as its a removable cover so should have some give.
3: that is unfortunate
4: Is this not normal of all phones. They all have a small gap between the glass and phone body. its hard to avoid, but not very big on the G3.
5: ive not had this issue fortunately.
Ive found the build quality to be very good. everything fits very nicely. and its a big step up in quality from the nexus 5 which already had a decent build quality.
Had mine for 6 days, comparing this to say an s4 or s5 is like comparing a Citroen 2CV against a Ferrari, the difference is immense in terms of both looks, build quality and feel. Loving it ?
Just got mine an hour ago. I'm coming from an S4. This phone feels cheap in comparison. I'm not sure if I'll get used to not having the true black that one gets with an AMOLED screen. But hey, it's only been an hour.

It really is a big difference between AMOLED and IPS screens. There completely different technologies, keep in mind though the IPS screen is more closer to every other screen you look at every day so its not like you dont use them already.
Im not liking how the G3 is get bashed around recently, if your not happy with it then i suggest people go back to samsung. Ive had it over a week now and the phone grows on me more every day. Once roms and tweeks come out this phone will be even more amazing

You do know that Sony have renforced corners for drop so do you think the frame will bent.. And the glass can't be bent without heated to a certain temperature... And if you want someone to run a bend test please offer your device and for sure someone will do a bend test for you.. This is not iPhone forum people have better things to do here...

Junior member does not (always) mean an illiterate blab with no practical knowledge, mate Play nice
That being said, my Z5P did bend. It's quite usual with large metal phones and enough pressure applied. It was only bent on the Power Button side, so I assume it twisted in my pocket somehow. ( see attachments )
Applied moderate heat to the side (no idea if it helped but it didnt hurt ) and slowly bent it back. There is a very minor deformation of the steel where the bent was, but its all good.
Sony responded quite well to the issue. Advised me to switch off the phone and not charge it due to increased chance of overheating and fire, and told me to bring it to a service so they can inspect the culprit.
I decided not to, since I don't wanna go without this beauty for a second If it keeps happening, I'll take it back tho.
Keep in mind it took an immense amount of force to bend it back, so I am not worried. Its a very rigid phone. Just not immune to force

With enough force you can bend anything... It's a common sense.. I maybe look new to xda forum as I am using taptalk and it takes my Gmail login as I just moved to android few months back... Maybe it wouldn't bend if using a devilcase aluminium bumper. I use one on my Z5 and just ordered a Z5P (for the 4K) and if I like it more than my Z5 I will order a devilcase for it too.
They are very sturdy and the precise fitting is essential for me.
