Hey guys,
I'm another happy member who bricked his Herald . I didn't unlock the thing before the flash and that is where it went wrong i think... not having an original rom, i'm stuck with a nice colorfull bootloader screen...
Now, for the good news, i have a friend, with an Herald from the exact same provider, bought 1 week later as i did... now my question:
How do i get his rom on my pda?
(if i manage to get the rom, i'll be happy to post it up here (Dutch vodafone WM5 )
Cheers

No chance.
You cannot flash a dump to a bricked device. You need the original RUU.
Because you cannot signe the dump os.nb to a .nbh and therefore the dump is useless.
Sorry. But check the wiki if there is an RUU for you. Normally there should be all you need!!
what about Sprite Clone?
It's an imaging tool that works like Ghost or Acronis True Image, but is designed for mobile phones. It says you can take an image of a device and dump it to another device, just like you would with a desktop PC.
If it works, then it would be the best way I can think of do a complete backup and restore of your phone (or phone to phone) provided it doesn't require an agent on the phone, or some other OS-level operation to work (meaning the phone would have to already be working).
Down side, though, is that they appear to only sell it for a minimum of 20 devices at 300 dollars a pop....

Dannoz: I'd be interested in hearing how it works, because it may be the solution to many problems with phone dumps/backups!
Bit of a basic question really for all the Orange users out there (and crossposted a little) but by rooting is the warranty on a contract phone invalidated?
Basically before doing any kind of flashing to new roms I want to backup (simple - incase anything goes wrong but also so I can "preserve" any warranty by going back to the original Orange state), but to backup using Nandroid you need to root first (correct?) - so my concern is if by the process of backing up you are breaking the warranty anyway...if it's worth it.
Not sure if you need to root to Nandriod Backup. I thought you just :
1) put the phone into recovery mode (power-off, hold 'back' and power-on)
2) did a fastboot boot cm-recovery.img
3) select backup from that menu.
TBH, the first thing I did was root my Orange phone and THEN started playing with ROMS, so I could be wrong.
A pristine (non-rooted) Orange ROM is available from Modaco's site if you need to revert. Also, rooting simply changes the ROM. I'm more woriied that's I've unlocked the phone!
Hello,
Yea this is all pretty new to me however it would indeed seem you don't have to root to do a backup (which is perfect). I just figured it's best getting a back up how it is now before *any* changes are made.
I don't know anything about doing a fastboot though, could you point me in the direction of a newbie guide or something?
Also I didn't know the original Orange ROM was avilable - that's very useful to know! Thanks!
Fastboot documented here
http://andblogs.net/fastboot/
Probably need to install the Andriod SDK, too:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/1.5_r3/index.html
SDK 1.6 is available, but I don't know if that causes any isses - I use 1.5.
Lots of good info on:
http://android.modaco.com/category/409/htc-hero-hero-modaco-com/
Good Luck!

Hi CombinedEffort
I've got an Orange Hero that is SIM & CID locked and as such I cannot download the official HTC ROM update. I have already nandroid backed up and rooted, but I not too sure about flashing new ROMS (ie. Modaco's). As you say you rooted then started playing with ROM's so hope you can answer a few questions.
-Did your Orange phone come from Orange direct and was SIM & CID locked?
-How have you unlocked your phone? Was it just a SIM unlock code, or have you managed to CID unlock too? (I've seen a thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=559806 about CID unlocking that requires you to make a serial debug cable - something I'm trying to avoid, but will to do if need be).
-Even if you haven't CID unlocked your phone, were you still able to flash custom ROMs, as long as you don't flash a new radio?
-Did you use the "update.zip" method to flash new ROMs?
Sorry for the number of questions, but hope you're able to answer them.
Can't wait to get rid of the stock ROM
Cheers

I was under the impression that the process of rooting thereby allowed you to use other ROMS such as the offical HTC ones - if this isn't the case I'm also very interested in more information!

Well I took the plunge and flashed MoDaCo's 2.2 ROM. Looks like you were right, you can flash ROMs if you've rooted your phone. However I'm still not sure about flashing radios if your phone is CID locked - I got the impression this wasn't possible from other threads I've read.
So go right ahead and flash ROMs till your hearts content - don't forget to do a backup 1st though, just incase.
One issue I have with the new ROM though, I can send SMS but can't view the threads afterwards (just says "loading") also when receiving SMS I can't see them. Me thinks some investigation is needed

I unlocked the phone with http://hero.unlock-now.com/sim-unlock-HTC-Hero/
adq (Andrew de Quincey, by any chance?) hadn't posted his CID unlock by then, so I know nothing about that.

I did flash generic / custom ROMS hoping it would unlock the phone - it didn't, but I could still use the Orange SIM with the generic ROMS. Not sure how flashing the radio would affect this - I would have thought it wouldn't

No, rooting affects the *ROM* not the *phone*. Modaco's custom ROMs come pre-rooted.
I came from an iPhone 2G background where I was expecting to have to Jailbreak and unlock the phone before being able to do anything useful with it. This is not the case with the Hero. Out-of-the-box, you can boot the Hero to the bootloader and flash a custom ROM from there - VERY hacker friendly!

Hey guyz ... Howz all doing. okie here's the deal. I am new to this whole Windows Phone 7 stuff used to play a lot with the HTC Elfin i had with WM6.1.
Tried a lot of stuff on Transformer too.
Now itz time for Samsung Focus , as my first Windows Phone Device.
I have read countless articles on this forum but still have a few doubts remaining.
1) Can the 8107 Mango bootloader be replaced with MAGLDR or it will screw up the device ?
2) Is it ok to flash MAGLDR & Custom ROM with an external MicroSD card inside ?
3) I cant find anything to backup stock rom and bootloader & restore it back in case if the device is burned. I found 1 or 2 but some report that restore isnt working. Can ny1 help me out with this.
Lastly the phone is on its way to my place so I dont know if it is a 1.3 or 1.4
But i need to get the above questions cleared as I have my xams running and can only giv 1hour fr the unlocking stuff. So just want to clear all the doubts before the phone arrives.
Thanks a lot guyz !!!
*BUMP* Please Help me ASAP Guyz....
That's because when you flash MAGLDR/custom roms, you do it on your own and accept the risks.
And yes, you might not be able to restore. In theory, you should be able to restore after flashing back a stock ROM, but I for one haven't tested/verified that.
Remember, all these are on your own risk

No it won't.SIM unlocks are not written on the rom or firmware. So it can't be erased by flashing.

I have to redirect that to my sig:
"Before asking questions, please read the Samsung Focus wiki and search the forums!"
Quote from the wiki:
Formatting, Flashing, upgrading, downgrading OS and firwmare doesn't affect Network lock (SIM lock).
Locks are in NVRAM - you do not overwrite this section by flashing firmware or formatting.
If the device is already SIM unlocked, flashing/updating/downgrading/formatting/etc the ROM will keep the phone unlocked.
Thanx a lot for all the help will flash tango tnite
Hoping not to brick my newly acquired device
Installed MAGLDR
Installed CleanROM !!

never had problems .. never been repaired .no new mainboard...nothing...i just changed ROMs..now i have 4.0.4
As samsamuel said, you'd be the first one with an HD2 network relocked, never heard of something similar
flash back to wm6.5 & review lock status & unlock as required.
If not new when you got it possible it was unlocked while not on WM as they then do not remain unlocked & recent android flashing has reactivated the lock ... just a theory as never experienced this.
Other option is it always was locked.

Do you have unlock code entry option when use another sim !
If so buy a code & try unlocking or if you have good local phone shop get them unlock via cable & software.

unfortunately, everyone here is going to believe you have overlooked something. As far as we are all aware, they can't be relocked, unless perhaps with some clever direct cable connection trickery, but there has certainly never been any mention of it.
Guess you are gonna just have to shell out for a code online.
Just out of interest, does the imei on the sticker under the battery match teh imei when you call it up on screen via the phone?
Dear HTC J One users,
Unfortunately there are not enough users of HTC J One (also known as HTL22 / M7_WLJ) to lobby a dedicated thread, so I decided to post this info thread with information about the device, root options and custom roms available so far.
The credit goes to all the devs who made it possible. I will provide links and credits, but please let me know if i missed someone.

Try to look for info about normal (non-japanese) HTC One brick problems - they are 99% same phones - so it might help

Hi. I am now visiting relatives in Japan, and was thinking of changing my old Samsung Nexus S...
I like the quality of service here, and I guess I can buy a used keitai with much confidence.
So I was thinking about this one,as I can find it here for about 25.000 yens, but I am wondering if I will be able to use it normally abroad, with almost all the features.
For example, can you run the 4.2 rom in english ? is it convenient ? One-seg feature is exclusively for japan I guess, right ?
If you think there is another high quality phone that can be bought here, please advise :fingers-crossed:
Thanks.

hello,
I have this phone HTC J One (htll 22) and I use it everywhere in Europe witout problem. To answer your questions:
1) You can Run 4.2 Rom in English, French, German, Ukrainian and many other languages. You can swith to English easily via Menu>Language and Locale > English, to swith to other languages, you need MoreLocale app and root.
2) One-seg is Japan only. No other country has this type of waves.
3) You can wait for Samsung Galaxy s5 which is coming in 3-4 month (it will be quite expensive at first). Otherwise, i beleive HTC J One is the best phone on Japanese market right now. Maybe Nexus is worth a look.
4) Yes, you can buy a used phone from Yahoo auctions for about 25000 or you can buy from http://www.Zenmarket.jp, even if you are abroad. Also, I have a slightly used rooted and sim-unlocked spare phone (PM me if you are interested)
5) to use the phone abroad, you need S-OFF, Root, and Sim-unlock. it is a pain, but it can be done if you are familiar with ADB and other stuff.
6) Is it convenient? I did not like the BlinkFeed thing. So I installed another launcher. Otherwise, it is a great, durable, very good looking phone. I am not going to change it for now.
HTL22 Sim Card Not Detected
I have HTL22 (HTC J ONE) and I've followed this forum to unlock bootloader, install custom recovery, install custom mods, S-Off and all, but I've had problem with phone not detecting a sim card.
I've tried many custom roms, and none have worked and i even bought a sim unlock code from one of the websites, however I couldn't figure out how to put that in as the roms do not ask me to enter a code.
Any kind of help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Are you in Japan? Did you buy your phone from auctions?
if answer to both questions is yes - you might be a victim of IMEI - lock by AU. This happense when the first owner of the phone is not paying for the phone, and thus phone becomes locked.
Your phone will work ust fine outside of Japan, but in Japan IMEI number is blacklisted. Changig IMEI in Japan is legal (unlike in many countries) but there is no easy way to change it. And it is not allowed to discuss methods for changing IMEI on this board
How to root HBOOT 1.54

wow.. this is news to me.. i was planning to buy HTL22 or Sc-01F from Amazon.. After reading abt IMEI lock, i am rethinking again..
how can anyone know beforehand if the phone is IMEI locked or not??
1) ask the seller what is IMEI number. If they do not give you the number, most likely it is blocked already
2) when you have the number go to
https://au-cs0.kddi.com/FtHome
http://nw-restriction.nttdocomo.co.jp/search.php
https://ct11.my.softbank.jp/WBF/icv...tmctr=(not provided)&__utmv=-&__utmk=79683988
3) input your IMEI in the search field and clik on CHECK (KAKUNIN)
4) if the result is ○ then no problem, if the result is △ There is a possiblility the phone will be blocked if the user stops paying the fees, and if the result is × - the phone is already blocked.
No news for 1.54 hboot? Im on Mexico and ther would be a lot of problems with duties to send and receive feom Japan.
