Hi All,
As we all know now almost.every from is available in Native SD format to install android in SD card just like NAND using ext4 type partition.
NILFS is another choice is going to be implemented to increase the reliability and performance.
For windows user it is very difficult. Do we have any tool like MiniTool partition that allows us to make NILFS partition? If not then it should be available in recovery it self.
Does any one have any idea OR can implement it in recovery?

I believe nativsd forum roughly pgs 67-70 have info on this to transfer partition from one card to another and also using gparted on virtual machine..

If gparted can create nilfs2 (did you mean to write that?) use ubuntu live from a usb stick. 4 gb is enough

First don't flame me for not searching before posting. I searched the forums but no topic really solves my problem.
I want to jump back to stock ROM from custom ROM for my wildfire, thus app2sd is redundant. How would I delete ext partition and free up that space?
There is no console in recovery mode like other topics suggested. That's why I turned to the wildfire community specifically.

Hi, I used EASEUS software and aside from the ext partition there is an OTHER partition that's 30.15mb and all 30.15mb are used, any idea what that is?
possible swap part. do you have fat part. too?
well I deleted that partition all together anyway and everything works fine

hi guys i have been searching the forums for tutorial on how to properly partition your sd card and your phone to use a swap partition for swapper. i heard it allows speed up performance for the phone while using some apps. can anyone pls help me with this. i just want a better performing GT540. thanks in advance

Most opperating systems have a built in manager for it, including windows. Look on YouTube, that's how I did mine.
Or use clockworkmod.

On windows you can create partitions but swap belongs to linux so unless you use a ubuntu live CD or a machine with ubuntu...

A ext2 partitions is the same on all operating system
Clockworkmod will also partition you sdcard
So i just create an ext2 partition on my sd? Then what's next?

Back ur memory card up first. Depending what size memory card you have depends on the size of the partition
The most you will need is 2gb, I would only us 500mb.(2gb sdcard)
You need to have a fat32 partition for your normal data and the ext2 for the swap file. Then just put it back in you phone.
BTW I lost my last memory card trying to unpartition it. So if you only want 1 extra paelrtition use clockworkmod.

I have a rooted HTC Wildfire 2.2 with a new 8GB microSD Class 4. I'd like to correctly partition my SDCard so that I can install all applications on SDCard and not Phone Memory.
1- What I need is to help me setting up perfect sizes for SWAP & Ext3 (Perfect matches HTC Wildfire and 8 GB Card).
2- Can I install the stock 2.2.1 ROM over the SDCard?
3- Will all Apps got installed on SDCard after partitioning instead of Phone Memory leaving it empty?

Try rommanager, chose partition your sd,(instal old clockwork mod like 2.xx, becoz new ones make ext4, which is not compatable with some roms,)choose the greatest avilable size for ext and swap(it may be enough, if u r not app greedy, i had done so, so far i have 50+app installed), reboot-partition-done, the best trouble free way!

Thanks for your reply but I don't want to end up my device because some people reported issues with partitioning part of internal phone memory due to some ROM Manager Partition Manager errors. I'll use a PC client to partition the card.
Rom manager works fine. I've done it a few times. The people having problems probably shouldn't have bought an android phone...... besides if something goes wrong odds are it won't just redo the partition again.
And make sure you backup your SD card before partitioning it.

Use recovery (= rom manager) to partition first. If that gives any issues then use "gparted live cd" to partition sdcard. U need to download gparted_live_cd_ISOimage and burn it to a cd. Then using pc u need to boot from live cd to partition sdcard. Here be careful not to format ur pc hard drive.
The partitioning sizes I recommend are 512MB ext , 32MB swap and remaining fat. If that is not sufficient u can choose 1024 MB, 64MB.
If u r using gparted then first create extended partition as fat corresponding to its memory. Then create ext and swap. At last format all those partitions.

so i have conflicting information from this thread and this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19927720#post19927720 on whether or not i am able to create an sdext partition on a factory rom, which i have come to the conclusion that you may be able to, but would you be able to put that partition to use and have apps installed and read from there. please be more specific, i have an LG Opt T running 2.3.3 btw

I used gParted. It's free. You can find it by fecking googling download and burn to a CD. Then boot it on your PC. Linux will show up. Open gParted from desktop and size your ext and format.
I made 1 GB ext4 and 64 MB Swap. 1 GB is too much for ext since I can't use more than 100 MB. 512 is ok. I read somewhere that Swap isn't used anymore but 64 MB isn't a thing in 8000.
It doesn't matter if its ext3 or 4 since you can flash DT's A2SD to any ROM.
The apps you moved to SD before are not in ext partition. They will stay in FAT partition. To move them to ext, simply move them to phone (after DT's A2SD phone means ext part.

In the second to last post I finally managed to get it to work. (Just to be clear, I used the darktremor script, but not the app, for the app is use S2E and to visualise my usage i use "freespace", but work like a charm ! )

I really don't understand a word about partitioning, but without the App2sd integrated in ICS and CM9, i really got a lack of space for my data.
So I tried to partition my 16GB sandisk cl4 sdcard with rom manager (i don't even know if the rom does support it...) in a 512MB partition size and 64MB swap size.
But now, my sdcard isn't recognized by my phone, and unable to be mounted. In CWM recovery, I can press "mount sdcard" which means it is not mounted yet, and i get an ERROR. :crying:
So i've got two questions:
- Is there a way to repear my sdcard (maybe by re-partitioning it in FAT32) and make it recognizable by my computer ?
- Is it possible to expand internal storage in our defy with CM9 to do Apps2sd ?
So if someone could help me, it would be...GREAT ! :good:

use Linux and wipe it to zero...
or u can use other windows tools such as mini tool partition wizard

EDIT: I chose FAT32 for the whole card, but should i choose logicial or primary ? What does that mean ?
Only use fat32 for primary....for secondary...use ext2 it will b fast.....but note then that partition will not b recognized in windows.....
Oh Nd...primary is d part where u will have ur songs n all...leave it to abt 13 gb.....d Rest format to ext2 and den use link2sd on ur phone....
N I wouldn't recommend swap on a cl4 card....it will significantly reduce ur card life....

Ok so I've Made two partition with mini tool partition wizard:
1 - FAT32 of 13.5 GB as "primary"
2 - EXT2 of 1.4 GB as "primary" too
Il choose "apply", each time it's a success but the EXT2 partition disapears and the FAT32 one takes the whole card (14.91GB) instead of the 13.5 I asked for.
Then, on the phone the sdcard is recognized as "damaged" so the phone ask me to format it, then I press ok, but I still have 14.91GB assigned to the UMS (Mass Storage) and no any 2nde partition (according to the Link2SD app).
What am I doing wrong ?
But really big thanks to you, my sdcard is working, that's the important !

For the EXT2 ? Already done, same result...
Sorry I don't have a PC to see d steps...but as far as I can remember...if u r using minitool ...den u need to click apply in the top left corner for every action.....
So...just format ur card again....den do delete all partitions...den partition ur card again....primary as fat32 and secondary(don't remember seeing logical...maybe so in newer version) as ext2.....remember to click apply after every step....oh btw one more thing....windows will not detect ur second ext2(which is a Linux fs) partition ever .....therefore mini tool will show dat part as unspecified or something.....just put it on ur mobile and run link2sd .....n select ur SD ext partition type(ext2) in d menu dat pops up......

Thanks, i know what I was doing wrong, I have used a usb cable through my phone instead of an sdcard adapter.
But now i don't know what I did, but my sdcard isn't recognized anywhere, even in mini tool... That's kinda anoying...
Just use an adapter to connect it to pc and reformat the SD card. Delete all the partitions and keep it to one only (primary).
I can't ! It doesn't apear in my computer (by adapter or USB) I can't see or do anything on it, from phone or computer...

Best partioning tool is gparted. There are a lot of boot able CD images containing it. Or use a live CD (or on USB) of Ubuntu.
Try an adapter (maybe loan one from someone). See any link2sd guide for how.

ok, you need to use minitool partition wizard to partition your sdcard perfectly and when you convert the partition files system, please dont forget to convert it to primary partition, also minitool can do that!
Hi All!
I have, admittedly limited Android experience and that experience was on a rooted device. With that device, I had the SDCard partitioned with a swap and data areas.
My Note 4 is NOT Rooted. With a stock Note 4 is there any need or benefit to partitioning an SDCard? Are the partitions only used by a 'Rooted' device? Does one just format the SDCard using the device which I believe will default to FAT32? What about the FAT32 file size limitation? Should it be formatted to NTFS?
I've searched quite extensively and could only find information on formatting and partitioning for Rooted devices with custom ROMs. There seems to be very little info for stock devices and that info is usually, "Put the card in the phone, format, done.".
Any advice would be appreciated.

Use win7 machine to format SD card in exfat which can handle big size.

To clarify, apps like Link2SD require the phone to be 'Rooted' so there is no benefit to partitioning if not 'Rooted'? As well, then there is likely no point or benefit to a swap partition either?
