[Guide]How to use directory bind on galaxy s3 - Galaxy S III General

We all know about this tool "directory bind"
This tool is much required for s3 as we dont have the option to move an app to sd card. Making this guide for people who are having trouble configuring/using "directory bind" on s3.
Steps:
1. Install directory bind.
2. goto app preferences
Change the default data path to
Code:
/mnt/extSdCard/
Change the default target path to
Code:
/sdcard/
3. Select "add new entry" and press the menu key , you will get an option called "data transfer assistant" . Select it.
4. Now select the source "data" folder to be moved.
5. Once the files are transferred to the new location select "bind checked" option in the app menu.
6. job done.
Below is the pictorial example of moving "Asphalt 7 " sd card data to external sd
the source directory for this game is located in "mnt/sdcard/android/obb"
the above directory is binded to "mnt/extSdCard/Directorybind/obb"

}
tips:
* select "bind on boot" in preference to keep the binding after reboot
* you can backup your current binding settings , by default the file is stored in "/sdcard" as csv file.
* uncheck "handles usb connection" in preference if you dont want to disturb your binding when connecting/disconnecting usb.

nice n good guide
by the way
it doesnt work on exfat cards
so suggested to format the 64gb card to fat32 before doing so
failure to do so
would result in damaged sd card error after moving a few games

Most of the binding should work, if you guys find something not working pls post it here so that it will save others time. I'll update the compatibility list in this post

Works well. Thanks @Bala. But one point here. Surprisingly i did not find anything in Android/obb folder. Asphalt files and Modern Combact 3 files were found in /Android/data with crazy long names( com.gameloft.android.GAND.GloftM3SS for MC3 and com.gameloft.android.SAMSUNG.GloftA7SS for asphalt 7). Just my 2 cents.

it doesnt say anywhere in this thread but does it require rooting? My only reason for rooting would be exactly to be able to transfer files from my 16 gb to extSd. Although I have no experience in rooting

Any way to fix the problem mate, the rest is cheese

wat format is ur card?
exfat or fat32?

Hi mate,
Thank you very much for your guide, I am however having a few issues......
I follow the guide exactly and all the games work in the directory I've moved ('Android' folder). However it stops other games from working that are on the root of my internal SD card or some reason???
Also even if I click on bind at boot after a reboot I need to redo the WHOLE process over again. Even select directories again and re bind them. When my phone reboots a message pops up saying it's binding my directories but it isn't, I just seem to find a way to save it.
Any ideas would be very much appreciated!!
Thank you

it works but no with games with obb folder : need redownloading data

I have a 64GB MicroSD card for my Verizon S III, do you know why from time to time it would give me the damaged sd card error? when that happens, how to fix it without re-formatting it? What's proper way to prepare the 64GB card for use in Samsung Galaxy S III.
I'm very curious because I have tried many times to reformat my 64GB card and recopying all my files.
Thank you

Nice guide it will help me a lot thanks man ..:thumbup:

This is in my S3. Hope it can help someone to understand it better.
Sometimes you might confuse, but please look at the path as in example in this picture, it will be easier.
Also don't forget to backup database file in the option. This help you restore file & path easily if you manage to wipe, flash new rom.
The backup file is located in internal sd card, root folder. It can even be edited from Excel.

I had this problem initially (locations not sticking after a boot). This was solved by changing the source and target directory in the preference menu with the right path. Check the directory path again.

[TOOL] RenameAPK - batch-rename bizarrely-named APKs

If you have a slough of apk files with weird names like I do, this DOS tool is for you. It uses AAPT (included) to check an APK file's name and version, and renames your APK in a more human-readable format.
Example:
pp170.apk --> PhotoShake Pro_1.7.0.apk
Installation
Just unzip the file (RenameAPK.zip) to anywhere you like. All the required files are included.
Instructions: GUI
I made RenameApkGUI in an attempt to create a nice tool that can be pinned to the start bar. (Right click on it, choose Pin To Taskbar.) Just like regular RenameAPK, you can drag multiple files to it. You can also open it and drag multiple files into it (this makes for an easier listing of the files you want to convert).
There are a couple caveats to it, however:
When pinned to the Taskbar, you can only drag one file at a time onto its icon.
When pinned to the Taskbar, and you wish to drag a file onto its icon, you must hold the Shift key.
Really, you might as well just open RenameAPK from the Start bar instead of trying to drag/drop to it.
Instructions: Command-line Tool
You can run this tool through the command line, or by dragging one (or multiple!) .apk files to it.
To rename multiple files (just in case )
Select the FIRST file you want renamed (e.g. clicking on it)
Hold down the shift key
Use the mouse or arrow keys to define the END of your selection
Drag one of the selected files to renameapk-min.

Instructions: Developers
If you want to borrow/change the code, feel free to do so. But also please remember to
Give credit to this me/this project (it's free, you don't even need to give me cookies)
Let me know what you did (it's cool to know)
Updates
RenameAPK v2: Added a GUI wrapper. Keep it in the same folder as the batch files and utilities, and everything should be all right.
Moved the excessive sourcecode files to a source folder.
Just wondering, does this change the name of the app itself, or is this the same as right clicking and renaming on the computer?

This is excellent for renaming and keeping track of the Amazon AppStore APKs!

Thank you! I have a pet peeve for ill-named apks. I spend a good amount of time copy/pasting or manually renaming. I just batch renamed 100 apks in about 30 seconds. This is wonderful! The only thing that could be just as good is a mobile version.

Good Job with this primetechv2, this works very nicely I needed something like this xD
I would like to know though, I modified your script all the slightest So that your outputted apk name would not have any spaces...
For Example, instead of "Root Explorer_1.7.apk" I have it say "Root_Explorer_1.7.apk"...
I don't know, I think it makes it look nicer xD
Would you like me to upload this change, and you can put it on the OP? Since I think some people would appreciate this

I could do a few of those things, but they'd be a little inconvenient... ex. I could run a search for .apk files, but it would either have to be (a) in the current folder/subfolders, or (b) you'd have to type in the directory.
Not an easy task, unless I created an extra "scan_for_apks" batch file you could drop a folder into Theoretically, at least, it could either start the task or generate a NEW batch file to run.... which you could remove the ones you don't want renamed, etc Pretty complicated stuff though.

My kudos on the last guy who did this too, I would mention it in the topic description except it seems a little redundant. I just got lucky with the press here, it seems.

Seems like a nice little tool for tweaking ROMs a bit. Hopefully you can add more features in the future, but even as it is, it should be handy for anyone who wants to tweak ROMs a little bit. By my understanding, it should allow the removal of preinstalled rubbish from stock ROMs, right?
I see you are using Ionic.Zip.dll the same one I used in Droid Manager for creating Custom Roms Too
But you have an issue bro
1- Make My Rom button doesn't work on the first run, I had to close and reopen the program.
2- the result zipped ROM will fail to flash in CWM & is twice in size than the original ROM
why it will fail, because if you open the result zipped file you will find a folder that has the project's title and the ROM files are inside that folder.
while CWM checks for META-INF folder on the root directory of the zipped ROM.
The reason why it's twice in size than the original ROM is because after the program unzips the base rom it doesn't delete it from workspace which causing "Ionic.Zip.dll" to include it in the result zipped rom making it twice in size than the original ROM.
Also please note that adding a data folder in the project will not lead into having anything inside /data/app after the rom is flashed because the updater-script must be modified to include the commands which tell CWM to: A- Mount Data Partition. B- Extract contents of data folder in the zipped file to Data Partition on the phone.
Also it would be better if your program doesn't fully remove the files from the hard disk, rather than just moving them to Recycle bin it's safer, since they can be retrieved
I'm sorry for that comment but I thought I would give you a quick feedback since it's the main step in making a better program
Good luck

Haha, but thanks again for helping me catch those bugs, lol tell me if you find anymore.

[B][Guide]Noob Guide To Set File Permission's[/B]

Hey Guys i have often seen lot of Question regarding the same "How to set the file permission,sorry i am a noob please explain?"
well this we come across on all threads, at some given point of time.
Reason being simple that we suggest some people to do as said below:
Hey,
1) copy the file XXXX to your Internal or External sd-card.
2) push the file XXXX to sytem/xxxx folder.
3) set permissions to rw-r--r-- blah blah blah.
4) reboot your phone and see.
Then comes the question again from the same people as below:
Hey,
1) I have done accordingly, but really confused regarding File permission though please explain?
2) How to set File Permission?
3) what is rw-r--r-- blah blah i cannot get it? etc.
So this Simple Guide will defenetly help the people with the same.
In order to set the file permission all you need is to have Root explore/Browser or similar type of File manager app been installed on your phone, with Root access.
when you open the File manager you see all your files and folder listed there, thats not our main concern, but something below each one of those file's or folder's, what we are really interested in like:
under say Data folder you see something like 'rwxrwx--x' which is of real concern here.
when you long press on the same Data Folder a pop appears as below
Fig 1
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
and when you select Permissions in that pop up menu it appears as below.
Fig 2
as you can see in the pic above the permission is set to 'rwxrwx--x' (771 according to Table below)
So in order to set the right Permission for a file, after you have copied the file to the relavent folder, all you have to follow is the below steps and also the Table guide below it.
1)Any File Manager app like Root Explorer/Browser,Es-file explorer installed with root access.
2)Find the File which you have copied to the appropriate Folder for which you have to set Permissions with the above installed file manager app.
3) Long press on the file to open a pop up menu as shown in Fig 1 above.
4)Set Permission accordingly ( been suggested by people for you) using the table guide below as reference.
5) Then reboot your phone for the same (Permission set) to take effect.
Table Guide for Reference
----------------------------------
No- Box is Unchecked, Yes- Box Checked
So, for example:
777 is the same as rwxrwxrwx
755 is the same as rwxr-xr-x
666 is the same as rw-rw-rw- and so on.
I do hope this Guide will come in handy to all those people who want to set filepermission, but need some clarity upon the same.

yeah That is why This type of tutorial thread must be sticky :angel:
Maybe u can also add the value for each permission in the OP....ie
Read (r) has value 4..
Write (w) has value 2..
Execute (x) has value 1..
This wud make it easier to understand n corelate between the numerical and alphabetical permission values...
Eg. rwxrwxrw- = 776 bcoz of above.

Manually "fixing permissions" is better left to more experienced and advanced users. Most CWM recoveries have "fix permissions" under "advanced" item in the menu that does a fine job. This is not to take any credit from you for a useful thread you have started but just adding a word of caution.

All I am saying is this is serious business,certainly not for 'noobs'.Besides,you have discussed only data apps and not system apps.I have been on Android since the donut days and am personally comfortable with tinkering around.
Now to your question,if you have to replace any system app,you begin by getting into the system apps folder to rename the old app(as against deleting it,just in case),fix the permissions of the replacement app outside the system app folder and then copy that into the system folder.
Someone skips a step and gets into FCs!
Which is why something like ROM Manager is used efffectively for fixing permissions.
Like I mentioned before,this is not to challenge your post in anyway but only to advocate caution...any guide for noobs must anticipate pitfalls and give a work around...
Best wishes.

[Guide][NoteII] Move data (games,etc) to external SD card [Directory Bind]

Intro
This is a summary of bala_gamer's guide for using Directory Bind on Galaxy SIII but with my own additions and tips.
I'm using Galaxy Note II (N7100) but should work on other models too.
You need ROOT and this app called Directory Bind.
All credits go to original guide author and the app creator.
What does this app do?
Directory Bind lets you move big (or small, your choice) data files/folders from games, apps, navi software to your external SD card. If you use 16GB variant of the Note 2 you can quickly use up the space with a few big games, so what is the solution?
Directory Bind will take care of this. It will move the folders containing big files you choose to the external SD card. Read on for instructions.
What you need?
- ROOT (guide here)
- Directory Bind (get the app here)
- External SD Card mounted (I used SanDisk Class 4 32GB formatted to FAT32)
1) Setting things up
When you install Directory Bind you need to set up a few things first. You only do this once but you better do it right. If you don't, things might not work as they should. These settings work best.
Open Directory Bind and give it ROOT access
Press the (softkey) Menu key -> Preferences
Check Bind on boot, Alert on unbind fail, Alternate dbase mgmt, Persistent service
Leave the rest unchecked
Select Default data path and set it to:
Code:
/mnt/extSdCard/
Select Default target path and set it to:
Code:
/sdcard/
Make sure those target paths are EXACTLY like ones I wrote. These WORK, others probobly WON'T.
This is it. You now have everything ready to move stuff from internal to external sd card.
2) Step by step guide to moving things
OK, we are ready to move things now. I will give step by step guide with pictures and an example. (click on image to view)1) First install the app/game you want, open it and download all files you need. For this example I will use the game BackStab.
Screenshot of Storage before installing the game:

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
2) Screenshot after the game downloaded it's data. You can see it used about 1,3 GB on internal storage:
3) Open the game check it works and it downloaded all it needs. Now exit the game. Go to task manager and kill it if it's running (if it's not, proceed). Go to Settings -> Application Manager search for your game, select it and Force Stop (if it's greyed out, proceed).
4) Open Directory Bind (your list will be empty at first, so just ignore my list) and hit Menu softkey, select Add new entry:
5) Now hit Menu softkey again and select Data transfer Assistant (if your keboard pops up ignore it or press back):
6) Now you will select your source. Source for games is usually within Android folder and subfolders data or obb. Sometimes it's directly on /sdcard/appname. For some gameloft games it's under /gameloft/games. You must find where the game stored it's data. In my case it's under /sdcard/gameloft/games/GloftSDHM.
So I will tap on gameloft -> games -> GloftSDHM: *** DON'T hit Select just yet!!! ***
And now when we are within the folder which we want to move we tap on Select:
8) Now the mount (target) path is set to the internal sd card folder, where game stored it's files. In my case this is
Code:
/sdcard/gameloft/games/GloftSDHM
Check that you have indeed selected the correct folder!
The source (data) path is external SD card folder where files will be moved. As pictured, I created an extra, optional, folder just to make it easier identifying the game later. You don't need to do this, leaving default will be just fine.
Make sure Transfer files from target to data is checked and hit Add
8) If you see "Data directory not exist, create now?" select "Create". It will say Copying files... I recommend you leave the phone until it finishes. It usually takes a few minutes.
9) Once it's done make sure there is a checkmark on the right and tap on the grey diskette icon:
It will now turn green:
10) DONE! This is it. Exit Directory Bind and reboot the device. It's not mandatory to reboot, but I recommend you do. When the phone turns on, you will see a notification that Directory Bind is performing binding. Wait a minute or two. Now go into Settings -> Storage aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand:
There you have it. Available space on internal card is back and the files are now moved to external SD card. You can now fire the game up and it should work the same as before. I didn't notice any lag or longer load times, runs just as smooth as before moving.
3) Tips & Tricks
Use the same method as described above for each individual game/app.
I don't recommend binding the complete Android/data or Android/obb folder. For me, it broke some games, and some games that use /obb didn't work. Individually binding each game worked every time.
I can confirm that Class 4 microSDHC 32GB works perfect. No lag, no longer load times, everything the same as from internal. So Class 4 or above is recommended, can't say for Class 2. I formatted to FAT32 and works just fine.
You don't NEED to reboot after each binding, but I recommend it, just to be sure everything is working. I always install the game, play it a minute, exit, perform binding, reboot. Then try the game again for a minute, and check storage before and after. For me it worked every time.
If there is an option within the game/app to download extra data to external SD card I recommend using that option directly. Only bind those games/apps that do not support this on their own. Example would be The Bard's Tale there you can select to download that huge HD 3,5GB file straight to external SD.
Make sure you set source (data) and mount (target) as instructed. Just do it.
On last picture of storage you can also see the color graph which represents internal SD card and how full it is. Don't panic as the grey (free) space will eventually disappear when you move a lot of files. It seems the graph can't "read" what we done and thinks internal SD is full. Just ignore it, only check the Available Space number and there you will se how much free space is left on internal SD.
Also important, if you use a file explorer and navigate to the original folder on SD internal, where data was before (in my case sdcard/gameloft/games) the original folder will still exist, and also checking Properties you will see it has the same size. It will seem as this was only copied to external SD and the original folder still exist. This is not the case! On internal SD this folder is actually kind of a "shortcut" or a "link" and does NOT infact use space. So if you delete anything from there, it will actually delete stuff from external SD. This one is hard to understand, but you will get it eventually.
The End
Thanks for reading, I hope it helps some of you. Bye :victory:
In My Case.
l success for binding android/data/com.xxxx.xxx
But when im binding android/obb/com.xxx.xxx
Its still asking donlod file..
How to fix it?
I would advise that first when you install a game that has obb file, run it first and let it download data. Then go play it a few minutes.
Then exit the game, best reboot phone. Then go perform binding of the folder inside obb. Then reboot AGAIN.
Then go try game. This method has worked for me, for the following games requiring obb files:
Six Guns
Great Big War Game
Total War Battles
Also make sure your settings are EXACTLY like mine on beginning of post 1.
Could you write which game is causing you trouble? Maybe I can test it out to see if it works for me.
I was trying that too.
Game example NBA 2k13,iron fist,sonic 4,sonic cd,the avenger,
Almost game that data in android/obb cannot run well.
For Binding succes with the green disket,but when the game run,still asking donlot data.
Then i delete binding(transfer file back) it run smothly without donloding data.
Thank you for the guide. I had tried everything I could to get this to work with no success. With your guide, worked first try.
@uchox: sorry I don't have those games so I can't test. But it's weird, for me every game I tried works. I would recommend maybe unbinding everything, uninstalling directory bind, installing latest version from thread and going fresh. Follow my guide to the letter, it really should work. If it doesn't, it must be game specific, as for me every game even which use obb worked.
@serpa4: No problem. I had same issues, made the mistake of binding entire /obb and /Android subfolders. It broke my games and had me in all sorts of trouble. So with a little experimenting I found the solutions described in post 1 best to use. So I also wrote a guide, so that people new to this don't have to go through "testing phase" just follow my guide and done.
On my Note 2 should i start target path as /sdcard/ even tho on my note 2 it starts with /sdcard0??
@ruffryder281: if you open up a file manager like ES File Explorer or Root Explorer and navigate to root/mnt/ what folders do you see? Except asec, obb and those starting with Usb...
Do you see sdcard and extSdCard? Or sdcard0 and extSdCard? or all 3?
If you have sdcard and extSdCard set those.
If you have sdcard0 and extSdCard set those.
If you have all 3 check whats inside sdcard/ and what inside sdcard0/ and use the one that open internal SD.
friend could help me? will start at the part where the transfer of the file the notice that there is the directory you want to create, I put YES, but he asks again, and is in the loop, I'm putting it back to YES and ask the same thing again, checked the mnt paths in the names are right. Will I need to create the directory on my sdcardext manually.
@marvelspires: Well this is weird, I never had that problem. For me it always asks to create folder I say yes and that's that. You could try creating a folder.. Are you using the latest version of DirectoryBind? Did you set everything as I said in the settings? Paths are set as described? (triple check). Have you managed to bind anything, or does this happen with everything, or better said, have you tried to bind only one specific thing, or did you try multiple?
Thanks tipsek. I've just moved my first three games successfully and now I'm about to try my sat nav maps
Can we continue to use Titanium backup normally, or do we have to unbind first? (I don't use Titanium to backup a game's data files, just the app itself). Sorry if that's a dumb question but I thought I better plan ahead.
Sorry, I just found the answer to my question here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34693332&highlight=titanium#post34693332
Use Titanium as normal
nevermind, works ok now!

@tatschke89: Could you be more specific? What doesn't work? Give some details like what phone you have, ROM, are you rooted, which app/game (or everything) doesn't work and what exactly you mean by that. For me, it works for every game/app I tried and I have been using it for over a month now.

Works for AmazonPlayer too, but after all binding and moving are done, you don't see albums in device, even after reboot. You must use use "download" from cloud tab, it's very quick, AmazonPlayer won't download the entire album, but just update something, and you can now see the album in the device tab.
I ended up binding the entire /sdcard/Android directory to /exSdCard/Android after a factory reset (clean slate - there was no data on that folder). Although the OP states it causes issues it never did for me. Probably the incompatibilities are created when moving the files from one card folder to the other: I suspect permissions / ownerships are set incorrectly / not carried over? I don't know, but at least for me it's not causing any issues whatsoever. My card is a SanDisk 64GB class 10 formatted as ExFat (in Mac OS X as it wouldn't read if I formatted it on the device).
Well, I remember when moving entire Android/data and Android/obb folders that I had trouble with a few games that used Android/obb folder. They gave me errors and wanted to download their files again. Once I binded each seperately those issues were gone, that's why I recommended binding each directory seperately. If it works for you to bind entire Android directory without problems that's great. Also you started fresh maybe that's key here. I do wonder, have you tried installing for example one game that uses Android/data and Android/obb folders to store their extra files AFTER you binded the entire Android/ folder? What happens, do the files automatically download to externalSD and links are created on internal, or do the files download on internal and stay there, or do they move to externalSD?

[Q] Lenovo IdeaPad S5000-H 3G call option

Hi,
I'd like to ask you, if is there someone who knows, how to make Lenovo S5000 3G (with SIM slot) calling?
Could it be similar like on >Lenovo A 3000< ??? Bcs I really hope so.. :angel:
Thanks to all for your answers!!!!!

pls help me..........
i need call option for lenovo S5000
The Chinese version has call option. but it doesn't have Google Apps and you can't install one. the international version on the other hand has gapps but only supports SMS and data connection.
Is there any workaround to add in the Gapps to Chinese ROM or add in the calling function from China ROM to international ROM?
IMO i think the baseband is the key point in this case.

All the links provided are active and alive. There's no problem in downloading.
The ROM is not rooted hence you need to root using the SRoot. SRoot is in chinese so just open the exe file, plug your device and click "ROOT". Just wait for the "confirmation" before unplugging your device. You can verify by Root Checker. The "SuperUser" used in the root is in chinese language, see my previous post and screenshots.
I can help you in adding Gapps.
1.Download and extract the GApps rar file.
2. After extracting you can see these: 2 folders and one file
Folder 1: META-INF
Folder 2: System
File: install-optional.sh
3. In your device, browse files using any File Explorer supporting Root, Let say "Root Explorer". Mount the "System" folder to RW so that you can copy the files in Step#2.
4. In copying the Files in Step#2, the "Root Explorer" app is very easy in doing these.
4.1 Copy the "META-INF" folder and paste directly to the "System" folder in your device.
4.2 Copy the "install-optional.sh" file and paste directly to the "System" folder in your device.
4.3 Open the folder "System" 5 subfolders namely: add-on, app, etc, framework, lib
4.3.1 Copy the "add-on" folder directly to the "System" folder in your device.
4.3.2 Copy the all the files from "app" folder and paste directly to the existing "app" subfolder in the "System" folder in your device.
4.3.3 Copy the all the files from "etc" folder and paste directly to the existing "etc" subfolder in the "System" folder in your device.
4.3.4 Copy the all the files from "framework" folder and paste directly to the existing "framework" subfolder in the "System" folder in your device.
4.3.5 Copy the all the files from "lib" folder and paste directly to the existing "lib" subfolder in the "System" folder in your device.
5. Reboot your device. You have now GApps.

The ROM is almost perfect. The only bug I found (or maybe not) is the poor reception of GPS signal when I installed the Sygic Navi, but I found solution to that. My battery lasts longer and a very heavy usage of the Tab, 3G data is on as well, about 60% left after the end of each day. Regular call functions also very clear especially when I updated the dialer. I applied the Galaxy Launcher and I really love it more that my Samsung GS4. Radio was also included (I don't know if the SMS-only ROM includes radio)
