In last xxxx6 version SMS app lagging - Galaxy S III General

In last xxxx6 version SMS app lagging... I'm after few upgrades without full wipe...should I wipe and install last xxxx6 version from scratch?

What is xxx6 ???
If its JB leaked Beta test firmware then try a factory reset or full wipe .

Any of them. Zoots will be easier as it can be flashed via cwm

[Q] Does upgrade Fresh 3.2.0.0 > 3.2.0.1 mean reinstalling everything?

I see that the directions say that no Wipe is required. My question is, if applied on top of 3.2.0.0, will you then need to set everything up again (reinstall apps, settings, etc.) or will they still be in place?
Thanks.
I assume you mean 3.3.0.1. and everything will be just as you left it. Just wipe cache and dalvik, flash the rom, and youll be good to go. Do a nand backup just in case though.
Er, yes - 3.3.0.1 - thanks a lot for the info!
Fresh is the best ROM out there period.
get titanium backup, it will make it fairly painless. It will restore evertying except for widgets. The free version works but u cant do a restore/backup all. They require use to buy it for that feature. Otherwise you will need to do each item one at a time. And for the amount of work that would take it would just be easier to install everything manually.
whenever I try to upgrade my fresh 3.2 to 3.3 it always fails. I've tried using RA recovery as well as clockworkmod and still no dice. even tried wiping everything andf doing a fresh (haha) install.
any advice? I really only want to upgrade so I can get my fps uncapped.
have you tried to re-download the rom? Maybe you have a bad zip ?
Smack! I never even thought of redownloading. Thanks I'll try that asap.

For those who update 'nightly'

How do you do flash the ROM every day and not loose all your settings, apps, etc. and have to re-download and reset everything again?
Or do you not loose all this when you download new nightly builds of CM7?
I never understood this either. Either you can flash over the previous 'nightly' and that preserves the settings and apps or they do a titanium backup of the apps and settings and flash that back on after doing a wipe. Don't know for sure tho.
The nightlys are too bleeding edge for me tho, tend to stick with a stable rom until cyanogen releases a fully compiled version.
I flash nightlies nightly. All you do is flash over the old one and everythings still there.
So you don't do a wipe in Rom Manager before you flash?

Never. I haven't wiped once in about 30+ updates. Phone runs great.

1) download update and put on SD card
2) enter recovery
3) Wipe cache/dalvik cache (notice. Don't wipe data. this is how you keep your apps/preferences/etc.)
4) Apply nightly update .zip
4a) If you're running a launcher mod (other than ADW) you can go to reboot recovery then flash the launcher mod as well to save your homescreens.
5) Reboot.
I don't even do that. Just flash straight from ROM Manager. I also don't backup before every update either. Think my current backup is nightly 15.

But, the very first time you installed a ROM you had to wipe everything?
It's just the updates where you don't need to wipe, right?
Yeah, you only need to wipe when going to a new version of android, eg 2.2 to 2.3

or... between CM and Gv or MIUI or Sense. Just good practice to wipe when making huge ROM changes.
what exactly is dalvik cache?

If goggle "what is dalvik cache", you'll probably get back to an xda thread, except that the first reply tells you to go google it, lol. Don't worry, though, cyanogen gives a pretty good summary of what it is in that thread a few posts down.

Dialer and call log chrashes

Hi guys!
I´m having this very annoying issue with my galaxy...
As soon as i open the dialer and try to punch in some numbers, the application just ends! Same thing goes if i try to access the call logs directly, just chrashes (not FC´s) right back to the homescreen!!
I have to open the dialer like 4-5 times before eventually being able to do anything at all with it.
Tried factory reset, didn´t work
Phone is a galaxy with 2.3.3 with JVH and 2.6.35.7 kernel, rooted
Please help!
Try cleaning cache of the app

Already did that, and dalvik and also fixed permissions in the recovery menu, still no effect
I also have this problem, including with stock JVH.
I have tried a lot, including:
Flashing a different lower firmware and upgrading through Kies.
Doing full reflashes though Odin.
Uninstalling all apps and reinstalling one by one (but the problem has been impossible to pinpoint
Taking all contacts of my Exchange account, going through them one by one, exporting them and reimporting them to fix any issue with those.
Clearing all caches, etc
Nothing has helped so I finally just installed another dialer from the market and with this there have been no problems. It's very annoying though because I like the stock apps.
Try searching for phone.apk for jvh an then replace it on system/app by using root explorer or other file manager
U could also download another dialer like (Go Dialer) but when u search at the market search Go Contacts it will install dialer with contacts list.. after that-(optional) go to system/app change phone.apk for phone.apk.bak.. this will delete the phone but u will keep it saved on system/app when u want it back just rename it phone.apk

flash 3 file js8 repartition pit / factory reset from cwm / flash jvq + you might want to factory reset here -> test for fc -> no fc
then you might root or whatever and dicover what breaks it

I´m not following? are you suggesting that i reflash the phone with a new rom? i like the stock one so that doesn´t do it for me..
youve got some mess on system partition that is resulting in phone aplication fatal errors that closes it (btw can you copypaste logcat part when this app fails)
aside there might be other modules not working as suposed that you are not noticing because they do not force close but they can for example make some proceses not go into idle = more battery consumed idk there might be a milion things that are going wrong due this incompatybility
by this flash order i suggest you to revert to froyo and do a factory reset there (because ive noticed myself tons of times factory reset failing on all gb releases and never on froyo - must be some gb/ or maybe rooting issue) and ive noticed new files not beeing copied on fresh fw instalation because of that all that on gb and never while upgrading from froyo
what i am proposing here is flash order that is always working for me and ive developed it after countles hours of reflashes - and hey i never had any drain any force close problems =)
thats just friendly xda advice - make it or not i do not care but i would be happy if that would help you
common issue also is reverting backup files from previous system version to current one (people restore system files from eg jve to jvq and are amazed that their phone forcloses on most apps or somrthing) you can not use some system files backup from previous on current firmware
So how do i do this then? bare in mind that i´ve never flashed a phone...ever
just a second, i will find youa nice tutorial =) refresh after like 10 minutes ;]]]
Thanks a billion!!
My advise,
Flash the original stock rom you want, (not any deodexed rom!)
Flash the kernel you want via odin
Reboot into recovery mode
Do "wipe data/factory reset" and "wipe cache partition"
Don't restore any backup

Funny thing, i actually downloaded Go Contacts in order to do a contact backup, but that´s actually a better dialer and call log app than the stock one
I´m thinking of maybe keeping this one instead of the stock one for now?
feel free to do that =)

About the wipe, like the member above me said, recovery. But I'm pretty sure you don't have an S6
i have tried recovery to wipe phone but all my stuff is still there and there to much info to go through individualy to wipe, and yes sorry my mistake its the s5 not 6.
If there is any info left after you wipe, then you aren't doing a full wipe. What recovery are you using, and what steps are you taking to wipe?

Just flash a stock ROM with ODIN if you can't do it from recovery or the phone for whatever reason, wipes the phone clean

Flashing a stock ROM doesn't wipe the phone. I flash stock a lot of times and it restores the system so that my phone cam boot up again but all my previous data is still there, untouched.

Using ODIN?
That's contrary to everything I've heard about using ODIN, every single tutorial, person Ive read using ODIN states that it wipes the phone clean
EDIT - I see there is a "NAND Erase all" check box on ODIN

I see the confusion, it leaves personal files such as music, pictures etc, but as for apps and system etc, it is 100% wiped

I may have just flashed stock in order to boot up my phone and restore a nandroid backup. That's why i though it doesn't wipe anything. Thanks for clearing that out for the OP (and me, partly)

Yea restoring Nandroid will look like nothing was wiped

So 6.0 is official....can I just update without reverting to stock?

Hi all,
I got the update message(I'm on the RU firmware) but I'm also rooted and twrpd so my question is the following...Will the update process complete without me reverting to stock or will I have to before I go to 6.0?
Cheers
I don't recive the notification but I also wonder
I didn't have the patience to let the OTA download at a crawl while the servers are getting hammered, so I don't know, but I'm guessing it would fail. What I did do was download the full update from the MM thread, and "Install" it with TWRP (wiped cache etc after install). I haven't re-rooted yet, but it's running fine.

No, I used the button TWRP shows after install to wipe cache, but I kept my data. It's working fine for me so far but I can't promise it's not better to wipe it.

Just check to see if they fixed the download speed problem and it looks like they've pulled the update out!
My download of the update cut out and now I can't see it either.
I stay with the Android 5 for the momment, the differences is worth it?
Well I did what hippy dave did and it seems to be working.
Something I wish could be customized is the bottom buttons on the EPD. The home button on the black theme is way too big :/
Done same as Dave, also installed superus and xposed, all fine =) other doubt I have, sometimes the back screen seens harder to unblock, anyone know why it happens or how to fix it? It have anything to do with the light in the place I am?

From my fresh experience: install full version from torrent (http://4pda.ru/forum/dl/post/9988519/yotaphone2-user-full-RU1.1.47.zip.torrent) through TWRP, wipe cache, install SuperSU. And after that steps - reboot. All datas and apps on it's places.
