Anybody find a fix for this? - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anybody encounter this jumbled up text and what the cause/fix would be (besides a reboot)?
I've seen this in aokp and aosp ics roms, namely dark unicorn 2.5 and synthetic nightmare.
Thanks.

Yup. As soon as you see scrambled letters, long press back and kill whatever app shows them.

When I long press back nothing happens.

I have seen this many a time, it usually is more prominant in older ICS roms, i am surprised that you are still having this issue as i havn't seen in since creamed glacier, how often do you get this?

Maybe 1-2 times a week. I've only used Apex Launcher, wondering if it's more specific to that app?

If anything go into apex settings and click on restart app. It'll lake care of it. That's how I did it
Sent from my HTC Glacier using xda app-developers app

Hmm, I use stock launcher (i like that the best), why don't you try that? Otherwise, wipe dalvik and cache. If that doesn't fix your problem in a week, reflash, use Synthetic AospX, thats the most up to date. Or you can try jellybean, i like Dark Jellybelly (now toasted marshmellow or something) the best for jelly bean. If neither of those work, considering going to glacier one v or something sense like.

Found it - I'm using Dark Unicorn right now, it was in the AOKP settings under 'General UI'. I haven't encountered this scrambled text recently but when I do I'll try your trick.
Thank you!

I was having this issue in DU 2.5 also. The only solution I found was killing the app itself. And it wasn't related only to Launcher (I used Apex). I got this issue in PowerAmp too (and any others apps), and have to kill it to fix.

I've seen this, but it goes away after killing the app or a hot reboot works ...

I found out that this scrambled font bug usually never happens when using the default launcher for ICS 4.0.3 it doesn't have all the customzations as apex but is smoother imo an the icons an dock can be theme using the theme chooser .

Be sure to move to system/apps an give rw r r permission installing as a regular will give you a force close when adding apps from widget tab if not a system app other than that this launcher is beast.

I have found it is usually Apex Launcher. I have had it happen a few times and I usually just restart it to clear it up. Worst case, reboot the phone...

[Q] Turn off capacitive button lights?

Is there any way to turn off the capacitive button lights through a mod or app? It's really annoying when using the phone at night. The app "screen filter" is great for dimming the screen but the buttons look really bright at night.
I'm pretty sure the answer is no.

Is it something in the kernel that needs to be modified? Not that I can do it but I'm just wondering.
In Froyo, they were tied to the keyboard timeout setting, so I could set it for 6 seconds and they'd turn off quickly. Not they stay on if the screen is on. Gotta find a mod to fix that...
When I had my moment most custom kernels came with a version with them on and one with them off. So it is possible

I found this. (Is that what you were talking about?) The description says it is for keeping the buttons ON. I'll check out what options it has.
As expected, this app does the opposite. But in the thread for it, there are some options, such as a file you can create, that has other affects on the buttons.

What this ROM is:
Rooted (Superuser/Busybox)
Debloated
Desensed
Slightly Themed (Jdk/Nocoast/UOT Kitchen)
Tweaked
Base 2.11.605.9 (Jrocker23)
AOSP Launcher2 and Lockscreen for now...
What this ROM isn't:
Something really creative. A good portion of the theme came from JDK/Nocoast's ROM, and the UOT.
Fully tested. I whipped this up in about 2 days.
Completed. I will be working on this in my spare time.
Custom kernel-ified. Uses the stock HTC kernel.

If your not running pure stock chances most "bugs" are from mods/themes/custom Roms. Its hard to call that app drawer mess up top a bug while at the same time its obvious from the screen shot some mods have been made.
There's a small bug on the lockscreen where the splash animation stops working. Happened to me on stock as well. I sent OP a PM about it, maybe one of you guys can verify? My friend has a stock JB NS and his doesn't do it anymore either.
Honestly, I have yet to notice any bugs on ota. Jb is amazing in my experience.

To anyone having problems, I would recommend wiping and reflashing. If you updated straight from the ota that was pushed to your device and you're having problems, try downloading the stock .zip, wiping and then flashing. Seeing as I have no problems at all and am thoroughly enjoying my jellybean.

I personally wouldn't really classify that as a bug. If you immediately try to wake the phone shortly after turning the screen off, it'll do this. My G2 does it. The phone hasn't fully gone into deep sleep. Did the same thing in ICS too.

Stock is STABLE. People need to full wipe and re flash, without themes or mods before reporting bugs

can't change lockscreen wallpaper

I've done something I don't what.
I can no longer change my lock screen wallpaper to a downloaded our taken image. Only to the stock wallpapers.
I've undone all my chances and reduced apps back to the minimum.
Me too changing to marshmallow will change it but everything else is stuck on clkp custom theme. I have dirty flashed clean rom on top of it's self but it still does the same thing. I don't know it'd I should clean the cache of a apk because I don't know what does the themes. ...like the theme framework.???

Same issue. I thought it had something to do with the onscreen button mod (to add the recent apps and ellipsis). When I reverted to normal it was still broken. I can only add the stock lock screen wallpapers.
The only mod I did was the smaller mid size nav bar

You guys are on it! I thought about that on the way home.
I'm going to flash to the plain recent button mod I know it worked with then flash from there.

Let us know if it works. Reverting didn't fix it for me. When I went to the Blackhole ROM it worked again, but once the mod was installed I noticed it was broken sometime later.

Nope. Flashed the navigation bar back to stock size and still doesn't change. Has to be the black nav bar mod, there's no revert and flashing the recent mod still keeps the black bar.
I am having the same problem. I am rooted and installed the tether mod. I did not try to change the lock screen wallpaper until after I was rooted.
It worked after rooted...I can't vouch for after clean rom. It might be something removed from clean or black

I doubt it's the tether mod.
Flashed the revert for black bar which wiped out the bar altogether.
Flashed the recent mod, I'm 94% sure it worked, and still doesn't.
Going to have to root my wife's phone to do an adb pull off all changed files.
Can you elaborate on what you did. I can't post new I don't have permission

I could'nt fix it. I'm also not sure what broke it so I flashed CleanROM.
I also flashed the black bar recents mod and the smaller nav bar mod and it's still working.
It's neither of those.
Anybody using Roundr? I haven't installed and tested that yet.
thats so weird. mine won't change to anything on my internal storage, but it will change to anything built into the rom. I'm on cleanrom right now, too.. it used to change before that... i never took the OTA tho, only when I installed cleanrom, bc it was based off it.

I managed to change it. I disabled it, yeah weird I know, so I'm scared of touching it again to test.

Set lock screen security to "None". Slide rally isn't needed on this phone. The screen won't accidentally turn on.
same problem here. i flashed the black status bar and i can't change the lockscreen wallpaper expect stock lg wallpapers.

that seems to be the common thread. We need to post in the correct thread do the devs, and users, are aware.
Sorry for bumping. We had a similar problem as LG Optimus G users and we were able to fix it. It's a simple permission issue.
In Optimus G you have to set the permission of this file to rwxrwxrwx:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Even if it's not the same it should be something like this. Find the wallpaper.png and set its permission to rwxrwxrwx

Guys, I was able to rectify this by clearing data in application manager>all apps>lockscreen settings. After that, set a stock wallpaper then a custom wallpaper. Lemme know if this works for you guys too, I did this over a week ago and I'm trying to recall the exact steps!
I have this issue after I push a MOD, though I am not sure which one causes the issue. The only way to fix it (before I discovered clearing lockscreen data) was to flash the ROM over again.
