Does anyone have any experiance using the Mame4Droid app? I would like to use a BT controller rather than the on-screen controls (pounding on the screen to play Track & Field isn't fun), does anyone have suggestions? I've seen where a Wii controller can be used with a separate app, but i'm thinking that a Sixaxis PS3 controller would be better....any input would be appreciated!

I've been using the ps3 controller with the sixaxis app in usb mode fine, but can't seem to pair it via bluetooth. Also read somewhere that this gamestop controller works great with our nexus 7, so I'll prob give that a try:
http://www.gamestop.com/android/accessories/tablet-wireless-bluetooth-controller/97838
You have to be rooted before the SixAxis app to install the required BT Pairing drivers.
The SixAxis App itself offers a bonus in itself by offering button-to-screen button mappings. This allows for controller use in games otherwise unplayable with a controller. Specifically for this thread, MAME4DROID, probably wouldn't matter since all Emulators have button mapping.
I haven't tried the Gamestop controller, but I have wasted lots of money on alternative gamepad solutions that ultimately just sucks. Quality in a device is essential for old school gaming. When I press Up, I don't want to go Up-Right. When I press Jump, I want to jump immediately. The Gamestop Controller seems nice but I would always be cautious. The reviews say that the controller feels light, cheap, and the button presses lag.
The PS3/SixAxis App is your best solution for gaming. The Gamestop controller might be 2nd or 3rd compared to the OnLive Controller.

I just brought a Red Samurai bluetooth wireless controller from Game Stop. I believe it is their brand. It seems to be working great for mame4droid. My phone is the Lg Optimis VU gsm unlocked. Verizon has the same phone. It is called the Lg Intuition. I'm running 4.0.4 ice cream sandwich. I tried it on two games 1942 Capcom and The Raiden Project by Seibu Kaihatsu. Both games work flawlessly. My phone has not been rooted. Just pair with phone and map the keys. Enjoy

Galaga with a ps3 controller is fun lol. Sixaxis will prettyy much take care of all your android external controller needs.

i used the wiimote software, worked fine
Thanks, I went out and got a sweet collectors edition tron remote to use with this
Works great, been using the classic controller and FPSx..

Wii remote and classic controller work fantastic, but what I really want is the ability to use a PS3 controller because it sucks having to lug around a wii remote just to use the sub-par classic controller.
I agree with the ps3 controller but I think its limited on the controllers side, just find one like that online that is bluetooth
from what I remember ps3 controllets can't be used cause of the way they pair. Wii with classic is the best so far.
This is cool, I didnt know you could use the wiimote. What works with the wiimote?
Thanks, this is new info to me.

I believe all the emu's do, though I've personally only used it for NES - sweet app though.
I ve know about it for a while but never decided to try it since it was for a phone and the controller is twice its size, but for a tablet I am OK with the idea
What emulator is good to run on the Xoom, I have one installed that a guy a verizon mentioned, but it only works if you store the data on at /sd so for now is unusable for me...
Which one's are you guys using that works well on the xoom?
I use Nesoid, Gensoid and SNesoid. WiimoteController for the WiiMote. ROM Gripper and Emulator ROMs to search for the games / ROMs.

Like he said above. I use Snesoid with wiicontroller. I had a folder called Roms and well put the roms there. I had a huge set of roms from way back when i moved all my snes games to my pc before I packed them up.
Thanks Guys!
I use snesoid and UAE4Droid (Amiga emulator) daily with a wiimote on my phone... can someone check whether UAE4Droid works on the Xoom? I'm about to pre-order the wifi only from PC World in UK.
I've got the Wii remote with a classic pro controller paired with the Xoom and Snesoid. I played Mortal Combat for hours last night. Runs perfectly.
I just wish I could use a more simple controller setup, but I can't seem to find any info about other bluetooth controllers that will work. Anyone have any recommendations?
how do you pair it to the xoom/phone?
does it knock off the pairing with the wii? I have wii remotes with the recharable battery pack so re-pairing means i have to find some proper batteries each time which can be a pain

You need to run Wiimote. There are pretty clear directions in the app. You basically tell it to start searching and then hold down the 1 and 2 key on the Wii controller to start it in pairing mode.
I'm sure you will have to re-pair it with the Wii afterwards.

How were you able to get the classic controller working? I have the wiimote set up and working. Plug in the classic controller and don't get any response from it. I'm using snesoid and wiimote controller 0.3 beta.
Thank you in advance for any help.

I've got the classic controller pro...I don't know if that matters. Also, I went into the settings for key mapping in Snesoid and mapped all of the buttons. They show up as letters on the mapping screen.
so it was my understanding that an innate ability of 3.1 was that it allowed us to plug in controllers, including PS3 and 360, and play witht hem. I plugged in my PS3 controller, expecting some sort of "input detected" message, but nothing. theredoesn't seem to be anything in the settings to configure or connect a device, either.
how do we do this? I know there are some emulators that have released updates with controller compatibility in the changelog.
As far as i kmow you camt connect a 360 controller. To connect a ps3 controller u need sixaxis controller. Its a paid app in the market.

I connected my wireless xbox360 controller using the PC dongle. I never got any message, it just worked. There are videos showing how to do it.
I can also confirm if you plug in a usb xbox 360 controller it works almost instantly
Using the xBox wireless usb adapter for PC to play emulators on my a500 3.1. Works like a charm.
The app to support the PS3 Sixaxis controller is only needed if you use it over bluetooth. It works without that program plugged in by USB. Bluetooth support is cool, but you need a PC as part of the pairing process for the controller.
Doing something with the controllers is something different though ... most emulators allow you to map the controller keys to the game, but you need to set them up in the emulator.

does anyone have any tips on disabling the home and back keys on the android while using a different input method? I connected s wired xbix 360 controller to my tablet and I can bind some buttons for emukators but other buttons on the controller are bound to home and back so when I try and use those bbuttons in the emulator they either close or worse I can't even bind the buttons because I'm pressing back. I also am unable to use the right thumbstick for input. Any suggestions and/or help?

Use an app called bt/USB joystick controller (just search "joystick" in market.) Its a paid app but about 60p and well worth it. I use it with my wired and wireless Xbox pad.
It has custom profiles for all different pads and means all ure buttons work. The UI isn't massively clear but once its set up its a doddle You basically tell ur device that input method is not touch screen keyboard, but instead your pad.
Best part is that I use my pad for some proper games (ie not emulators) and its great. Gta is awesome on it.
Awesome app but I'm having troubke configuring my analog sticks would you ir anyone happen to have a driver for a wired 360 controller appsrentky you can export profiles.
I was surprised that a ps3 controller when plugged in with the USB and it just worked

I just loaded up the standard control profile for wired 360 pad. Analogue sticks work fine though I think it treats them as digital. Did see there was option for some analogue settings within the program

I might be wrong but the gamepad support comes from the kernel. Maybe inquire with the Dev, just a question are you plugging the ps3 in with USB?

I have been following various threads on the Onlivefans.com forum about using an Android device to play Onlive games and mapping hardware buttons to software controls. None are perfect and do not play the games I would like. Now the Sony Tablet S is compatible with Onlive using a real PS3 controller. The Sony Tablet S is a Playstation Certified tablet. What would I have to modify on my Nook Color to make it think it is a Tablet S? I already have Sixaxis Controller app to allow bluetooth connectivity to my PS3 controller and it works great for all my emulators. I am really hoping this will let me avoid a $50 purchase of Onlive's official Universal Controller.
Thoughts? Ideas? Thanks in advance.
could you clarify what you mean when you say bluetooth works fine? I was under the impression that book's bt radio was too weak to even keyboard properly?
there are apps on market that allow you to spoof other devices but if it is a hardware or driver limitation you might be able to usb joystick it
The bluetooth has worked great with my PS3 controller. I have used it up to 3 feet away with no issue. I have not tried to use two controllers at once but it seems technically possible.
I guess my real question is, does anyone have a build.prop from a Sony Tablet S and I will try asking in one of those forums.
The PS3 controller works a little bit while using OnLive but they do not allow you to map keys. They want you to use their controller only.

The sixaxis app says it lets you connect four controller but the nook apparently only recognizes one at a time.
Does anyone know of any bluetooth controllers that work with our device? Phonejoy or anything? I'm on slim rom 4.2.2 build 2 with KTmanta kernel.Thanks.
Ps3 will work with the sixaxis app.

I use a $30 "controller for tablets" that I got from GameStop. It works perfect in my Game Boy Advance and SNES emulator. In the emulator itself go to controls and then assign the buttons however you want. The one problem with modern versions of Android is that when a bluetooth controller is connected, you can no longer use the on-screen keyboard because the controller is your input device. You have to disconnect the controller (or just disable bluetooth) if you want to type stuff again. No that big a deal since you only really have it on while playing a game anyway
Looks like it is on sale now for $20:
http://www.gamestop.com/android/accessories/tablet-wireless-bluetooth-controller/97838
Ps3 controller through sixaxis app is awesome and has more native game pad support from apps than any others I've seen... Some games even change all the buttons in game to reflect the ps3 controller... I like where it would normally say "tap here" and it will say "push X"
The bard's tale comes to mind
Plus it let's you set up touch emulation for games that don't have native game pad support
Thanks for the input guys! I tried the one from gamestop. It was red samurai brand. Didn't work. Phonejoy is updating their hardware and is no longer manufacturing those remotes. I'm gonna go with sixaxis. Thanks!!
I was about to the buy the Nexus Player, along with the controller, and I was wondering if someone could test the controller on the OUYA. I really like the Nexus Player's controller, so I was wondering if it can be used to replace to the OUYA controller?
Idk, But if/when they release kernel source you could probably port the controller to ouyas kernel if you had to
Will the ouya or ps4 controllers work on Nexus player. God I hope so. I have 4 ouya and 4 ps4 controllers. I can't afford to buy any more controllers.
Does anyone have an answer for this?

By default, the Ouya controller does not work very well, the button mapping is all messed up. Once we get root, I can add the proper keyboard layout files from the Ouya and let you know if that works. At least it pairs just fine.
Ps4 controller does not work
I've tried a bunch of times to get the PS4 controller to work, but I cannot get it to pair over bluetooth and I don't have a usb otg cable to see if it works over usb. :/
Do you have the nexus player gamepad? Can it pair with OUYA and play games?

I do not have a Nexus Player gamepad. I already have 4 Ouya gamepads, so I thought getting another one was just too much.
I've got the nexus gamepad delivered to me yesterday and although I haven't tested pairing it with the ouya yet, I'm pretty sure that the button mapping will be messed up. I have paired it with my note 10.1 2014 and it works great! Especially with Limelight (whatever the newest root ver is)
Yup, as said above, it DOES pair, but the mapping is all messed up. One of the keypad buttons maps to 'back', not had the triggers working in anything. But some games have still been playable.
Hope someone gets this working as it's also quite good to have the touchpad area to move around too.
Oh, the other thing is both the standard gamepad and the ouya gamepad when paired show as the same controller (ie, player1). Not sure where the other ouya pad I've got is to see if that turns up as player2.
