Facebook App for Android being run on Nexus 7 (bone stock) and Droid Razr Maxx (rooted, stock ICS ROM).
On the 7, it recently started displaying this strange thing where it would should the number of likes in two different fonts in the news feed. Also, I could click to comment on something, but am not able to type in the comment box. Also, I used to be able to see people's timeline when clicking on their profile, and now it has reverted to the old profile display in the Android app (i.e. no cover photo, no buttons to view pictures, about, etc.).
I have cleared the app's cache, the app's data, and uninstalled/reinstalled the app.
The peculiar thing is that the Android FB app works how it should on my Razr Maxx. Shows likes in 1 font, am able to comment on posts, can view timelines on people's profile pages.
Both devices are running the same version of the Android FB app: Ver. 1.9.9
Here are some example pics: First is on the Razr, second is on the 7.
Same here today. Yesterday works fine. I think this happens because facebook is not an android native app, is a parser of html mobile version

Isn't the Facebook-maintained Facebook app always the worst (with a 1-star rating for every two 5-star ratings)? Those issues you're describing are probably app-wide, not just relegated to this tablet.

Alright, I am currently on my third Nexus 7 and getting a little frustrated. I really love this device and would love to customize it the way I want but I hold back just in case I have to return another one. My question is, is anyone else experiencing problems with their tablet randomly freezing? I havent seen any forums discussing this particular problem. I have a hunch it could be the Facebook app that is causing this but that is just a theory. Below is a video of said freezing problems. Sorry for the quality; it was late, i was drinking and enjoying Netflix.
Not that I've heard of, but a quick forum search would easily confirm or deny this.
Edit reason: added detail.

If your anything like me I'm constantly force stopping apps because why should they still be running of I'm not using it, right? Well I was having the same issue as you. Freezing and studdering on a quad core CPU. Mainly it was freezing in the settings menu. So I stopped force closing all these apps I usually do and the freezing stopped. I'm on about a week in with my 3rd nexus 7 and not one freeze. So if you do do as I do try just letting the apps be and "kill" them instead.

The way android is designed, apps are supposed to run in the background. Your not supposed to have a lot of free ram. 100 mb of free ram is the same as 5 mb... If it's free ram it isn't doing anything but being wasted just sitting there. Task killers are useless since eclair 2.1.the reason apps run the in the background is so you can open an app where you last left off. Among lots of other reasons. Let android manage the tasks it's really good at it.

I've had a few freezing issues on my nexus 7. I've only had it a couple of days. It becomes completely unresponsive for minutes and never recovers. I have to hold down the power button until it shuts off (20 seconds maybe).
I've had a number of other quirks that really show (to me) that you get what you pay for. Its a cheap tablet with a top end CPU/GPU, but that's about it.
Not sure what my next step is, but I doubt I would be happy with the shortcomings of the Nexus 7 even if I had a perfect device. I think I just like higher end devices is all, and I don't mind paying more for something that just works with no compromise.
Again just my opinion.

No such problems here, but if I were you I would use the Linux command line commands : top, ps, free, df. With those you should be able to find out if an app or process is misbehaving. You need to install the terminalIDE app and read about those commands.

I just purchsed one... Used it for 2 days. After using for a while I consistantly had freezing, particularly when typing. I called it in for a RMA refund. Don't know what the issue is, but moving on to something more tried and true.

Freezing - yes now and then...
My Nexus 7 freezes occasionally. I have noticed that when it restarts there's a bunch of updates. Me thinks that maybe the CPU was busy doing updates while I was keying in / touching the screen etc and couldn't cope...but maybe not. These apps seem to update a lot, same goes for my notso :silly: smartphone.
Anybody else come back to your Nexus 7 that is actually completely off and requires a power button and volume down hold in order to restart? Also I find the Android OS is consuming much of the battery in some instances.

Bought my N7 three days ago and it worked brilliantly after installing all my apps from the play store then I got the message to update the OS from 4.2 to 4.2.1 which I duly obliged. Thereafter it was a totally different device with crazy stuttering just swiping home screens and and solid freezes on chrome which was especially bad. I had to do at least half dozen soft re sets when everything ground to a halt and a factory wipe none of which helped. I spent this afternoon using the nexus toolkit to unlock+root my N7 and installed nightly CyanogenMod 10.1 with jb20121212 Gapps and individually reinstalled+tested every app from play store including Chrome. Its (thankfully) now buttery smooth again and I've not had any problems whatsoever in the past 8 hours of using it. This surprised me as CM10.1 is based on 4.2.1 and maybe suggests its a problem with the stock Gapps included in the OTA?
I love android but Google are releasing these updates before they're ready and it makes the OS look unreliable in the eyes of the average consumer who has no interest in rooting and flashing roms.

I bought my wife a first generation Nexus 7 about 2 years ago and everything was fine with the tablet and is now updated with stock 4.4.4. Recently she started noticing that it would freeze for no reason and finally it got to the point where it would freeze very soon after it was booted up. I cleaned the cache and factory reset but the problem persisted. Obviously the unit is out of warranty but I called Asus to see if they could offer any advice. The only answers I got was that they couldn't do anything and it sounded like there was a problem with the motherboard. They also told me I could sent the tablet in for repairs but it would probably cost around $200! After laughing out loud at this ridiculous amount I told them I'd just go buy a Samsung Tab 4 for my wife and forget the Nexus. I bought the 8 inch Tab 4 and my wife is happy with the functioning of the product. BUT, I decided to give the Nexus 7 another chance at life so I utilized the Nexus Root Toolkit and I kept the stock 4.4.4 ROM instead of going the custom ROM route. I am pleased to report that there was NO motherboard problem and this tablet is working great so I am now the proud owner of the Nexus 7.
3year later. Still the same on 5.0.2
I really want to break this tablet on someones head who made it.
After 5.02 ...
It slowed down substantially. I did the "clear cache" which helped a little. It's so slow web browsing that I may as well not even try ... often 15 seconds to a minute to respond to a link click.
SO ... use it mostly for the Kindle app. I don't think it is the app fault, but when it locks up now, I see nothing on the screen; finally determined that it was in the process of downloading an update to some app or another, and the downloading locks the system if the kindle app is on the screen ... and seems to be a major slowdown other times.
Maybe there will be a 5.03 getting the performance back to KitKat levels.
Hi,
I recall this being a problem on android years ago, and it was fixed, but appears to be back. If I am browsing apps in the Play Store, each time I back out of an app screen to the app list, the list repositions itself at the top, rather than reflecting the position I was at before I clicked into a specific app screen. When working through a large list this is a real frustration.
I haven't seen anyone else complaining of this which makes me wonder if somehow it is just me. I have tried clearing data, and uninstalling updates to no avail, and this issue has persisted across two factory resets.
I am running the stock factory ROM with the Trinity 7 kernel.
Any thoughts?

Hold it landscape, you'll have your list on the left and it doesn't move on it's own as you go through installing.
I'm having this problem as well. No matter what I do its always going back to the top.
This is very annoying it does it on both my android devices, which is the Epic 4g Touch aka Samsung Galaxy S2 and Nexus 7, when you are looking at your apps history in the play store app. So when I want to scroll through my previous apps say on my nexus 7 and its incompatible and I hit back it goes to the top after I just scrolled through 1or 2 hundred apps. Same thing on my epic 4g touch. Also I think they should make it so you can just check off as many apps as you want like in email to delete but in the apps store so you can install multiple apps like if you factory reset or are into rooting. I hope they do something about this soon.

Hi,
I've got the EU version, coming from HTC One.
I must say, only after you change from Sense to something else you realize how good is the Sense.
But honestly, this LG G2 is awesome, the screen is even better then the HTC One !
Amazing battery life and much more.
2 things I can't figure out which related to LG Android cover:
1. How do I get high res pics from Facebook to contacts ?!!?
2. I have contact who have 2 names on my Gmail accounts, how do I choose what name to display ?
Thanks
in regards to fb, I've never had any phone that synced high resolution shots because of facebooks bad coding.. therefore a while back I bought an app called haxsync. it syncs high quality pics and it worked quite well.

Thanks.
Actually on my One X and One the pics from FB syncs in High res.
I'll give it a shot.
Btw, back on my HTC Desire days i've purchased app call "HD Contacts". I taught to give it a shot again.
BUT, the developer removed FB support because he have no time to fix it. Be aware of any purchase there. Shame on him.
i've been using haxsync since my gnex days, it's a great app, but yes, sense did sync high quality photos over on its own.
That's what I missed about HTC sense. But as others mentioned, haxsync ought to do it. It isn't free however. Using it on my samsung s4 and previously note 2 and s3.

For example, when I am looking at my own list of installed apps and then select one, it pauses for 2-3 seconds before jumping to the app's page. This happens consistently, but I've never seen such a delay on my other devices (Nexus 4, Nexus 7). Does anyone else's seem to pause there a lot longer than it should?
Other than that, the phone is very fast!

I wish that was the case, but I can put it side by side my Nexus 4 or Nexus 7, and it's WAY slower than those. It always happens on my G2, so there is something about the play store version or the LG custom software on the device that's causing these delays. I believe it happens in some other apps too. Tapatalk, for instance, seems to delay longer after selecting a forum as well. Very weird.

I've noticed app pages loading slowly on Google Play for the past few/several weeks when I owned a Sprint Galaxy S4 up to getting the LG G2 earlier this week. Now being a new owner of a new phone on a different network, the only constant in the equation is Google Play.

Care to share what monumental changes you were expecting? I see a lot of people disappointed by the update, but they don't voice what their expectations were.
You might do well to read the change log: http://developer.android.com/about/versions/kitkat.html. Obviously things like default SMS and translucent nav and status bars won't make it to the Nexus 7, but those weren't really big deal changes anyway. Bigger, useful changes happened under the hood. Lower system requirements and memory management improvements means 4.4 is lighter and leaner. Host Card Emulation means that things like Google Wallet are no longer reliant on a "secure element" in the device. The printing framework means any app can print any type of content using cloud printing, like Google Cloud Print. Immersive mode means nice changes for full screen apps.
Etc., etc. Just go take a look at that change log and come back and say that, "Absolutely nothing changed."
All updates will probably be like this from now on because they have to cater for five year old devices.

Well, except for the loss of the flash plug-in.
I love this update
+ 25% battery life: my previous 7. 5 hours average is now 9-10.
-Another change is the ability to get the translucent bars (with Nova launcher beta)
- I had 2-3 random reboot per week (now it happened only once in the last 3 weeks)
- touchscreen improvement : no more sticky and ghost touch (even if the multi touch issue is still there)
You can argue that it's more bugs fixes and optimization than a big upgrade, it's true. But it's a big improvement for this tablet according to me.

Uh. What? They dropped support for the Galaxy Nexus, which is only 2 years old at this point. Technically they would have supported it still if TI had updated their chipset drivers, but it is still hardly a 5 year old device. They only officially support the Nexus 4 (1 year old) and the Nexus 7 2012 (1 year and a bit old). If manufacturers like Samsung or HTC choose to support legacy devices, that's their thing, not Google. Google provides the source. Samsung, HTC, and Moto are only supporting their more recent lineups too.
Maybe do some research before you start spouting off on the Internet.

Are you for real? All you're essentially complaining about is the fact that there is no visual changes. The reason there aren't many visual changes is because they didn't include the Google Experience Launcher that debuted on the Nexus 5. I would direct you here for some perspective: http://www.randomphantasmagoria.com/can-we-all-just-shut-up-about-the-google-experience-launcher/
Also, people, translucent status bars are available on EVERY NEXUS DEVICE EXCEPT THE NEXUS 10 (due to graphics driver issues). The thing is, the app has to specifically request the translucent bar. The reason the translucent bars don't show up on the home screens is because the other Nexus devices don't include the Google Experience Launcher. The GEL requests translucent bars. The legacy launcher does not. If you want translucent status bars on the home screen, sideload the Google Experience Launcher. Done.

I think kitkat is one of the most exciting releases since ice cream sandwich but most changes are indeed under the hood and not officially ready yet, like ART but kitkat is an awesome start for a new future for Android.

I can't comment on the VPN issues, but why is no SMS support on the NEXUS 7 TABLET a reason to dislike the update? It's a tablet. You have a data plan on it, not a talk and text plan. No tablets have SMS support out of the box. There are mods, etc. that you can use to get SMS support.

I don't know about worst, but I wish I hadn't updated. Battery is not a big issue with me as I mainly use it at home where I can keep it charged. The printing option is nice but not something that I can't live without. I haven't noticed any increased speed. I am stock so my issues apply to non power users who just want a first rate tablet without having to mod it, which it was before the update:
1. Browsers doesn't automatically fit text to screen like 4.3 did. I now have to double tap.
2. There is a slight stick/lag in browser when scrolling. Before it was smooth as butter.
3. To prevent major lag/freeze, I've had to cut off location services.
4. Touchscreen is sometimes non responsive, particularly the app drawer button. I use Apex (to hide non used apps) but it doesn't seem to be Apex as it also happens with the stock launcher. The only way to get it working again is by clearing default.
5. Not major but I liked the blue status bar icons in 4.3 better than the white.
6. I liked the 4.3 email app better.
7. Loss of flash. I know flash is obsolete, but there are still many websites that still use it and I liked the option of using my preferred video player as opposed to being forced to HTML5.

I somewhat doubt it. My N7 LTE came with 4.3 and the "reduced" SMS function. It can receive SMS, same as in 4.4, but i had to install a SMS app to send them. Apart from testing i never used it to send SMS. It's a bloody tablet...

I had the opposite effect, sitting "idle" for 4 hours the battery is drained down to %20, google services was @ 74%, re-booting didn't solve it. Sitting idle with 4.3 it last 5 full days; lastly I really, really liked the way the Staus icon would be blue for secured network, and white for unsecured network, showed up/down too and would turn grayish when your connected but not repsonding....and the blue stood out just enough to catch your eye so that you could tell at a glance what is going on. I dumped KitCrap and went back to 4.3

What makes it a bloody tablet? I never had that issue with mine; 4.3 runs like a champ.
