External WiFi Adpater? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am going to try and develop a solution to make this work. dmesg output on android does detect the USB device so it may be possible.
Stay tuned.

It uses a RTL8192SU driver on Linux. I've herd of people being able to get this work on the Asus Prime. Any idea if it's possible over OTG USB?

your looking in the wrong place for an answer. this section is for original development, and you arent developing anything here. you want to look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1675

Actually I think I am going to if I find a solution.

Questions go in the Q&A section, not the Dev section - and certainly not the Original Development section.

I found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1484339
but i'm looking for a simple mod for usung external tplink WN722
mayby chainfire could do it for us

Amen brother. Unless you have an apk of this, and it might help development with android 2(Link to developing Google apps because of sync api commands in maps app? I don't know.) What I'm trying to say is...don't make a new thread if it has NOTHING TO TO WITH DEVELOPMENT. Thanks.
Seriously. DEV or GTFO.
I kind of disagree; I think this is important for the development section:
It could inspire developers to work a way into porting android 2.0 to G1. It may inspire some genius into converting the g1 into a multi OS system that can switch between a GPS NAV and a Phone, in a simple way “switch Rom”. I left it open without a comment because I rather for everyone to use his imagination and transform this into development!!!

We already got a "demo rom" of sorts....it is based off of Android 2,but no Google apps, wifi, or Bluetooth, for obvious reasons.

I’m aware of that and the problems associated with porting 2.0, but I also believe in the XDA development Team. I would like to remind everyone where we have been and where are we now in terms of android, just imagine flashing back to stock RC 28 .
Just a note to OP, any dev that would even conjure doing this would more than likely look @ android.com or other android related sites with news and other articles just like you linked for us, granted you were trying to share what you have learned, it is completely irrelevant to this forum. Gladly take this thread to a "general"disscussion. Besides its still early look @ 2.0 and will be a bit before we see progress, and was hoping this thread meant somone was porting already, yet, to my dismay another off topic discussion that let my hopes fall to the bottomless pit of irony.

what is odin?

I am coming from an evo 4g and would like to know what odin is/used for. on the evo I only ever had to use adb. is it necessary to have or is it more like htc sync. ie only needed in certain circumstances. thanks in advance for the input

dude why must you say that to everyone youre really not helping ive seen you in about 3 threads already saying the same thing post something a little help and then suggest that they move it i left the 32b section and was hoping that this section would be a little better and more helpful cause for right now the community for our phone is small and we need whoever is here to be helpful

He's exactly right... because this subforum is just starting up, everything needs to be in its appropriate section. It will make everthing easier when this starts to pick up and you need to go back and find something. No one who wants to flash a custom rom wants to read questions about apps. So no hatin involved, lets just put stuff in the appropriate spots

yes i understand that but to the op you really didnt help at all thats what i mean im not saying your wrong at all im just saying help the guy even though he posted in the wrong spot and then ask him to move it cause hes in the wrong section thats all
honestly i was going under the assumtion that odin was some program you had to use to flash roms or something along those lines. How would i go about transfering it to the general section?
none of you are helping at all. if you don't have anything helpful at all to contribute then don't say anything at all. saying stuff like this doesn't belong here isn't helpful at all and all it does is clutter the thread. if it needs to be moved then let a mod decide on that.
as for answering the op's question...
Odin is the program you use to flash phones.
'Odin Multi Downloader v3.95.exe' is used to flash the Samsung Galaxy. It's usually included in firmware packs.
Gunman is trying to help... Ppl need to read the rules and follow them before posting... A simple google search would have answered his question.. I already posted a "read before posting" thread.. Its all the way at the bottom bc ppl are posting incorrectly and in the wrong place

when you say firm ware like when you flash new kernals/roms or updating hardware like the radio and such? or do you mean the version of android itself? also do you have to use odin or can you just get a .zip of the firm ware/rom then flash it in recovery mode?
Id say 99.999% of the time no one mods the hardware, the roms are essentially like OS's, and firmware is like a bios, it translates what the rom wants us to do into how the hardware is going to do it.
Yes I realize this is not a perfect analogy, and no offense to the OP, this is just a basic rundown for anyone starting out.
On a Vibrant, using this app-thingy

Odin is a tool used for downloading new rom's or software to the phone. you need to put the phone into download mode to get odin to recognize it. Be very careful as to how you use this software, it can brick your phone if you mess up and don't do it right.

Kernel Modules for 3D and Audio on Touchpad

Posting this hoping some of the CM developers on the touch pad visit this section of the forums -
I was wondering if anyone knows which kernel modules are in use on CM7 that are allowing the touchpad to have full 3D and working audio under the OS. Working on getting Debian running fully on the touchpad hardware and these are two hurdles I need to get over next.

Yes, I am very familiar with the storage characteristics of these devices.
Just curious what you've filled your device with, now.

Seriously, this is ridiculous. Probably a large part of the reason RootzWiki exists, because of this BS on XDA. OP, please don't be discouraged - I support your efforts and wish I could answer your question!
If you mean the kernel compiling, maybe you can check the tenderloin kernel build in github
I wish I can also find the CM7 source code for TP but it seems been pulled off from github, you can check the work of preludedrew but the rom I built from his code does not work well for 3D acceleration and other stuffs (or maybe I have done something wrong in compiling...)
Hope this helps

You can't find a really good answer because there is no really good answer. It's seems to be a hardware limitation (not enough voltage to the usb port or something), but not everyone is so sure. I think it's unlikely we will see it in the future. Google/LG certainly won't release a new revision with USB OTG support, because that would make a lot of current owners very, very angry.
I suggest you keep your eye on the [DEV] USB OTG thread in the development section.
By the way, this belongs in the Q&A section.

They didn't on purpose. They actually advertised it WITH USB otg, and then quickly changed it after they found out their mistake. But now it's too late, because releasing a new revision with usb otg would make a lot of people very angry. Everyone will demand a refund.
Q&A means question & answer so that explains itself, but I'm not one to judge.

I use USB OTG on my Galaxy Nexus so I can extend my media library when on the move. Not having the option really bugs me. Why would they disable it? Is it purely to force the use of online storage services?

No, I'm pretty sure it's a mistake, because they did advertise it at first. We will never be certain though.
It was not a mistake. A commit was made, with a comment saying that mako (Nexus 4) cannot supply 5v. 5 volts is required for USB devices to operate.

Yeah, but at first they did advertise it could. So I think it was a production mistake, and the moment you sell thousands of N4s with the same mistake, you can't go back. It would just make people angry.

I assume people have tried using it supplying the voltage themselves, e.g. by a USB Y cable.
That's how I've done it in the past on other devices which wouldn't supply 5V.
