Recently the past two days my Nook hasn't been able to obtain an IP address from any wifi spot, i've tried both CM7.2 and CM9 and three different wifi connections and every time it just hangs at obtaining IP address, I was able to get connected for a few minutes but it wasn't long till it dropped and went back into a reconnect loop. Are there any reports of the Nook Color's wifi chip just crapping out after a long time?
Posible Reasons and a solution
OK man, I experienced a wifi disconnect loop on CM7.2 kang. Turned out I had flashed the ROM over an ICS from which caused probs. I wiped and reflashed, worked for me. Before you reflash, try an app called Wifi Quick fixer or something, search on the play store. It fixed broken wifi of many of my friend. Good luck......

Search for "FXR WiFi fix and rescue" on Play Store, do try it out once. If it doesn't work then you could have a hardware problem.

ok before the update my phone never had any issues connecting but since i downloaded the official update that someone posted in the development forum it has stopped working, i have tried both Bionix 1.9 as well as Bionix Fusion 1.0 (currently using this one) neither has helped.
whats happening is the phone finds the wifi, connects to it, and then keeps like restarting or losing connection saying obtaining IP address. I have tried this from my home router as well as my work router neither of which work any longer.
I have also tried giving it a static ip address but then it just keeps losing and connecting (refreshing i guess).
If i try and go to the market or a website while the wifi is connected, refreshing doing whatever it doesnt work at all just shows could not load screens.
I have the same issue, with a stock (but rooted) JI6. The only resolution I have is rebooting the phone.

rebooting the phone for me doesnt do any good, i leave wifi on, reboot and then when its back on wifi still doesnt work. Is it possible to go back to pre JI6? if so have you tried that yet?
You could ODIN back to stock. At least you won't be having this problem and plus you could test to see if JI6 is the problem.
I HIGHLY recommend to do a nandroid backup before anything and save ur apps with titanium backup. :]
You need to rest your wi-fi router ie once it connect for the first time its fine afterwords. I have fixed four of my friends vibrants same way.

I havent done so yet but even if this does fix my router at my home issue i cant very well tell my work and places with free wifi "hey i need you to reset your router"...
well im not sure what the issue was but it fixed when i put rom Bionix Fusion 1.1 onto my phone.
Hey guys. It's been a while but I've ran into a problem with my mytouch today when I tried to turn wifi on for the first time in forever. It just wouldnt connect. It would say aquiring ip address from [network] and then flash to disconnected, then scanning, then acquiring ip address again.
I've tried flashing a different rom, doing a nand restore to my previous rom (which had wifi working), and trying my friend's wifi and none of those worked.
Wifi stopped working after flashing this rom.

Any ideas? I'm dataless right now

I've had issues with WPA2 networks where my phone wouldn't connect at first.
Try removing the network and starting over.
Still a no go.
Could it be a bad kernel that you've been installing?
It may also be a hardware failure (worst case scenario)
Try changing your network security type, or removing it completely.
I forgot to mention that I changed the kernal too. Still not working. I don't think (or I hope) it's not hardware failure. It's still picking up wifi signals and detecting networks. It just doesn't actually connect.
EDIT:
Wow I feel like the biggest noob now. After changing every possible thing I could think of on my phone, I restarted my router and my phone connected right after. That was really strange considering every other wireless device in the house had no trouble connecting but oh well. It works. Can't complain now. Thanks for the help guys
Same with MT3G. Can not connect any wifi now (Just 1 time after Flashing 2.2 ROM).
Don't know how to fix.
Changed 2 Froyo ROM already
same issue
Same problem here after flashing a Hero ROM like 5 months ago. Can't connect to WiFi, but I can still search and attempt to connect to a wifi network, but won't actually connect. I can still WiFi tether, which leads me to believe it's not a hardware issue...
Iv been having the same problem as a few others where when I turn on my Wifi sometimes it will connect within seconds and other times it will be stuck on 'optaining ip address'.
Im currently on redpill v4 with kholks 1.2ghz kernel but have switched between different roms and kernels and it wont stop!
The other kernel I use is fauxs 1.3ghz kernel and can't find a certain fix for the problem
Cheers

It's most likely a router problem, not a phone one. Look for updates for your router software, they might fix those kind of stuff
PS: You can always set up fixed IP addresses on your phone if it's still an issue.

The OP meant the toggle switch sometimes connects and other times gets stuck obtaining IP. You have to push scan manually to get the IP at all. Not a router problem as it is sending the wifi, but sometimes the phone is not registering its there.

I imagine the devs will fix the issue after cm7 is done

I second the router problem. I have to reset my router sometimes to connect.
Iphone > galaxy s 2.
No its not a router problem because it happens wherever I go, its not always happened, just since iv started flashing, when it says obtaining ip it can't actually be doing that because its not scanned and found any networks yet

I had this problem with froyo. When we all got gb it went away.

I have a slightly different problem. When I'm at home on my network, I always connect, fine and dandy, with no interaction needed from me.
At work, we have an open network, but one that requires you to open a browser and agree to the terms and conditions before you can browse. That's probably not anything to do with the issue, but my phone will get stuck in a scanning.... connecting.... disconnected loop. It will never say obtaining IP address during this loop. And then all of a sudden, I'll look at my phone, and there will be the wifi bars in the header. It just all of a sudden decides to work. SHRUG.

something i tried and has seemed to work. if you go into wifi settings then press the menu key you will see an advanced option. in there is a wi fi sleep police. i changed mine to never from never when plugged in even though it was never plugged in and so far so good.
I put CyanogenMod on my NOOK Color about 2 months ago and really have not used it much since I did it. When I first did it the WiFi worked fine. Now it Scans, Conects, disables over and over again... What do I do? Is there a fix for this? I have been thinking I would just return it to stock is that possible?? HELP, HELP HELP............
Try deleting all known networks and rebooting.

No change, still doing to same thing.... Its like the wi-fi keeps turnung off and on and the wifi indecator does not even showup on the menu bar at the bottom.......
Try searching the NC forums here with your router model. I use the D-Link DIR-655 and it has a known issue with the Nook Color. I have to switch my router to 802.11G only mode before my Nook can connect to it. Others have had to turn off wireless security before their Nook will connect. It's a real pain!

Infrequently mine does this but after several "turn off"/"turn on" wifi, it seems to lock onto my network and connects.

Believe it or not, unplug then replug of router fixed that issue for me.
Hello there.
This is my first post here, as I usually Google and usually find the solution here, but this time no.
Yesteday, my N4 stopped accessing the Web via Wifi.
It do connects to the Modem, gets its IP adress and etc. But I see no data being exchanged (using Internet Speed Meter I see 0kb/s, or a few bytes).
I see the N4 and its IP also from the router configuration page, and from the phone itself under wifi settings.
It was working fine 48Hours ago, and I didn't make anything weird in the past hours. It was running PacMan Rom (the latest one). I tried a factory reset and wiping a fresh 4.4, but nothing yet.
I tried multiple Fresh-Flashing but none helped.
I tried connecting to a free Wifi Hotspot and it worked like a charm, but when it comes to the my Wifi spot, nopenope. 3G works fine.
Any help? If you need more details just ask.
EDIT - Just forget what I wrote. Seems like my ISP router went nuts. I forgot to try a router hard reset before posting. I just tried and it's working again.
At least my Nexus is still going nice
