here are two files to configure blackberry for microsoft exchange and lotus notes including pdf file with instructions
tried to set this up before and drew a blank big time entered the info as it requested pin and imei but it kept saying i was a registerd user ,spoke to a decent bloke at 02 got to speak to him 2mora see if blackberry can reset my account even thou ive never used it strange anyone manage to get an account set up at www.o2email.co.uk .....
Pen6uin, where did you find the PIN to enable registration.?
The Pin
Can be found once you open up the blackberry software and go to settings, make surfe you click 'enable' and 'start', it will then be below the IMEI. I must add that O2 told me quite emphatically that this service will not be available until Jan. 2005.
blackberry service
For what its worth; I called O2 this morning as was told the Blackberry service was due to be available from 1 Nov, but there is a small delay.
The lady I spoke to went away and checked with the "data team" and told me it should be available in the next couple of weeks....
(Surprisingly; she was aware that the new rom release for XDA II included blackberry software; usually the call centre staff seem to be the last to know such things)
Was playing around with the Blackberry software installed the in 1.72 ROM but don't think i can use it as i'm not subscribed with O2 UK
What about Wallaby ?
Any hint whether this BlackBarre application can be installed in anyway on an XDA 1 ?
I lifted the HTC_PocketPC_1.2.4.19_O2_England.cab
from 1.72.181 extended rom from hobbit http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=12526&highlight=blackberry
and tried to install in on a Qtek9090 (xdaIII, pda2k)
Everthing installs OK but when I am to connect to the device from the PC it claims that the "Services are not correctly configured"
I have checked for configuration files and settings in the registry but at a quick glance it seems that the configuration is hardcoded in some dll.
I have BlackBerry Enterprise in Sweden (Vodafone as carrier)
I wont give up yet but if anyone else succeds please write a few lines!
Best regards!
ok after a conversation with a rather upto date call center bod he has told me to call customer services and (get this he called me back lol ) they need to activate blackberry on my account and then try again apparently he said most off the setup is to be done on the handset so he will keep an eye on my account and then call me again (i feel honoured )when i have it activated to tell me the set up.what a nice man

Let us know when he gets back to you.
Have you got the logon to the site yet?
Did you have to ask for APN 57 (blackberry.net) from CS?
ok my quest continues ......
after speaking to cs this morning they put me onto data support who again are very knoledgable think there has been some training going on at 02 ,anyways he checks my account again and the usuall 'O' let me see if i can do it from here still no joy,he calls cs and does mention apn bydandie
he then transfers me to cs to give security details for the gzillianth time lol to activate it and says it should be activated within the next 24 hrs ...... so we shall see i will give an update asap
my surgestion is to mention the apn switch on for blackberry when calling cs to avoid the data support call .
Im getting the same issue about IMEI already being defined, and requested to log in with existing userid (which I havent set up).
Id also like to use my exisiting work VODAFONE SIM, which is GPRS enabled to our corporate BES (but Blackberry service removed) - will this work? (XDA is unlocked).
Finally anyone know if there's a true Vodafone/QTEK 2020 ROM upgrade - we've got these as work as well.
Blackberry Working!!!
Ignore my last posts - Ive now successfully got the XDA working on our corporate BES.
Was really a case of just following the instructions in the docs above, ensuring Blackberry enabled account (couresty Voda) being used.
No sweat.
Probably still some things to sort out for web based service though.

Hi. Great news!!! What is the actual cab file putting the BB functionality on the device? I would like to avoid installing the whole new ROM if at all possible. Has anyone tried installing just the BB? Thanks
Today I had time to test the BlackBerry client (look at my post above) HTC_PocketPC_1.2.4.19_O2_England.cab on a Qtek 2020.
And I got it working without any trouble
However, installed it on a 1.66 device and after a while the Bb client disconnected from gprs and I had to connect it again.
I connected it against a Blackberry enterprise server and, could successfully send & recieve mails and make address lookup to the GAL.
It also recieved the IT policy but I dont know what policy settings it applied
When I tried the same package on my Qtek 9090 it was very sluggish and never connected, so the client abviously works very close with the radio stack!? If anyone has better results than me please let me know
Best regards
Thanks for the guidance. Got the cab. Now, here's the golden question. What does BB enabled account mean? If I have GRPS connectivity is that not enough? I am guessing in order to control pricing packages there may be certain ports used by BB that the carrier blocks and then when you pay the fees for BB enabled account they simply enable them. Is this the case? Thanks for your clarification.

Does this cab file install other applications other than the BB client? Coz I dont want to install any other app except the BB client on my XDAII since its an Asian ROM 1.66.
I worked my way through the guide doc for Exchange all the way up to :
6. Tap the Synchronization tab.
7. Select the Enable Wireless Synchronization check box.
This checkbox is grayed out on my device. Were you able to select this checkbox? Thanks

Hi, was wondering if anyone can help me setup blackberry on my o2mini..
I have upgraded to the latest ROM which claims to have blackberry function.
But i have no idea how to make it work to start receiving my pop mails..
can anyone help me ><
i am with vodafone if that helps...
Just pop into a Vodafone store and they will help you set it up...you will have to go on a plan (not prepaid)
u sure they can help me set it up?
i remember going in before enquiring about blackberry for O2mini and they said its not suported officially..?
Would the setting up blackberry procedure the same as other ones?
i'll go in and ask them then
thanks
From memory I think you'll have to go onto the $49 data plan to use blackberry since they now charge $1 per 5 mins of GPRS connectivity.
Nearly makes me want to switch back to Telstra..... nearly
yay~~~
now its working~
basically you need to have BB account with your provider (pay service)
and setup account thru their website.
You will need your device's IMEI/PIN number
and POP3 email address + passwords and thats all!!!

I'm wondering whether this is still working for you ... according to this thread, the folks at Blackberry kick you off after a few days if the BB Connect client does not match the ROM's original network ...
PS. i have read alot of discussions on here about getting it to work properly... just to let you all know, if your PIN number for your blackberry client meant for another network.... blackberry themselves will cut of the traffic to your pin number... although this may take a week or so for it to cut off. The network you are with will not know this has happened hense you will get no help from them. This is a LICENSING issue... tech support advisors will not have this within thier network's published information.

Is it still working for you?
Yes its still working for me - with vodafone.
The only thing its not promised to do as a proper BB device is not been able to receive the emails straight away at occassionally.
Also, if you have the USB plugged in the BB email gets disabled automatically untill u unplug it.
I upgraded to the T-Mobile ROM 1.3.
Didnt do the big storage patch as i got lost in the middle of the tutorial and couldnt be bothered... ;p (BUT still have about 20mb original storage)
Also the post about BB checking mismatches probably only applys when ppl install the O2mini 1.3 ROM --> O2miniPro..
Otherwise i cant think of anything that i did more to make it work continueous.
Voda BB unlimited plan is $49 month i think.

Thanks for the info. In any event, work won't allow me to use my O2 for this - not a secure enough device, according to them.
BTW, I did the bigstorage thing ... very straightforward if you follow the 8 steps at the bottom of this page.
well thats too bad ><~
But about the security issue.. i m sure if the hackers really wants to get in your email they will always figure a way..
If you company uses a work server + sercurity + firewalls + whatever then probably YES it will be insecure compare to BB but then you cant use your email unless you at work... guess that the trade off..
With the Vodafone:
What happen is they give you a <[email protected]> which the settings etc links to your BB device - O2mini.
So whatever emails in the inbox there will be on your device.
To setup you have to 'nominate'/add your various pop3 accounts to make it PULL emails from them to the this <[email protected]>.
Hope this clarify some of the ideas the technology uses for you newbies like myself ;p

Wish I could fix up our internal policy issues!
More seriously, does anyone know of any document that I could provide to our IT people that would convince them that the BB Connect software (running on the O2 mini) will not be a risk for the Blackberry Enterprise Server (and related systems)?

The issue is not really with BB Connect. The issue is that with Blackberry devices, the IT department can force a profile onto the Blackberry device and set up policies that cannot be overriden. Eg, they can set a policy that the device will ask for a password after 5 minutes of inactivity. This however cannot be done with a PDA running BB Connect.
Other examples of policies that they cannot enforce:
- Internet usage (web browsing, ssh'ing etc)
- Installation of software (games, etc)
Have you guys had any luck getting this working with Optus.
I have been trying to get it going for about 3 days now and am about to put it into the to hard basket.
Hi all,
I got it all installed and got my email address and 'the activation" password from my IT department. We use Blackberry Enterprise server.
There is no place for me to enter that information in the settings, any idea?
Thanks,
Eric.
anyone can help me...?

Hello, I need help here. My sim is on 3 network and I signed up for the unlimited GPRS but bought HTC advantage and was able to connect to 3. It has been merry until few days ago when I cannot download emails again except I got via web, I've tried everything possible including hard reset. But once on wifi, I'm able to. The question is, is it possible for network to block this like they do msn messenger? if so, is there any hope or I should just cancell the data plan as this was the main reaso for taking it. Look forward to help. Thanks.
Yes they can. EVERY internet protocol and every program can be blocked if the carrier so wants. Contact your carrier and ask them what their policy on POP2 access is. If its blocked or they don't get a straight answer, then I'd cancel.
Thanks a lot for the reponse, it seems that is the case. I called and they said I should not normally have had access to POP3/IMAP downloads. And I'm just about to cancel the web package. Cheers.
I think they are talking coblers! 3's own mail '3mail' is IMAP mail! So of course you need to access it! Calll again and insist of speaking to scotland as then you might get a straight answer!

Bad call - 3 are terrible!
Anyhow, if you check with your email provider you may find they provide an alternative port for email access... the most usual blocked port is 25 because that's the one most people use for POP3 access.
Hope that helps...
Just read Tmobile is going to charge for tethering & wi-fi hot spot. How will they know? Isn't data, data? I don't want to be charged for something I might use 5 times a year.

the only way they could know if you are tethering is if you are using the carrier's native ROM, i don't think they would ever find out when running a custom rom.
If you don't bother searching - at least do read the same thread on the same 1st page of the forum, instead of opening another one.
Einstein was right about infinite things...
Packages being sent contain HTTP requests, which may contain info on the device that's being used, among other stuff I don't really know about.
If those packages contain specific info on the device, they probably can tell even if you're using a custom ROM, just by putting some effort into it.
Anyways, if by some mean they'd manage to analyze it in a way where they can tell whether you're tethering or not, we'll also find a way to trick them by parsing those packages on the fly.
So, ultimately, I don't know whether they can tell or not if you're tethering, but if they can don't worry, someone will take care of it.

This is true, deep packet inspection is against the law as it infringes what little privacy we are still allowed thanks to homeland security

That's screwed. You can set any UA when using a custom ROM, so you'd be charged for tethering when you set it to Desktop?
In that case, someone might have a good reason to sue them...

First, you're right. But I forgot to mention that they won't charge you, it simply doesn't work. So if you changed the UA the way you suggest, you would see a blank page and quickly fix that
Second, I noticed after answering that I didn't read the question well (sh*t happens ) and didn't get the point about root. So to be more clear about the original question :
- "They" shouldn't be able to know if you're rooted or not, but there may be ways for them to detect that you are tethering.
Tethering and T-mobile...
If you run speedtest.net on a computer that's tethered to the N1, it shows on speedtest.net's server that you are on T-mobile USA's IP. Somehow T-mobile would have to acquire when the tether option was turned on and off at the same time the 3g service is on. They would have to submit that into the header files that get sent to their services. That would be a stretch, but it would be doable in future software updates. Say Gingerbread....
Actually, yesterday I've found something interesting about one of our local carriers.
It has 2 APNs: one for "dumbphones" and one for smartphones.
The first one allows Nexus to use internet and market, but tethering doesn't work. The DNS requests are blocked - I still didn't figure out how they block them. DNS servers get the ping, but the requests aren't resolved. Yet it looks like they're resolved, if sent from the phone.
The second one allows full internet access for the phone - and tethering also works.
So they don't detect tethering (and don't charge for it), but looks like they can block it with some restrictions that still allow the phone browser to work, when using "dumbphone" APN.

so all the other data, non browser based - how do they decide if/when to block which data ? i'm assuming this will only work on a non-rooted phone, or they are breaking the law and doing deep inspection.
if they =are= doing deep packet inspection, they can and will be held liable for eavesdropping, child porn, online harrassement (if you ever harrass someone), and a whole host of other things.
the ISP (tmo) not knowing what you're doing is a benefit to them. ignorance is bliss, and knowledge means responsibility the way the gov't views it.
lol, that last statement, the gov't and responsibility could be a joke i guess.
I believe they just have all traffic going through proxy which allows only very few selected packet types through, and blocks the rest for "dumbphone" APN. They don't check/block anything beyond DNS requests, and if you want to connect to a site while tethering "dumbphone" connection by IP - I believe you'll get there (didn't have a chance to test, but pinging IPs works without problems).
And of course, my Nexus with Enomther's ROM was used for experiments and showed exactly the same behavior.
The thing is - if I understand it correctly, it's not a planned behavior. They wanted to shut off all the network but the sites they give access to from their own WAP portal (considered "internal" internet), but in fact for some reason Nexus isn't completely blocked by it. PC is, though, when connected through Nexus.
And again, they don't have something that detects tethering - once a smartphone APN is used, the traffic is the same for Nexus and for tethered devices.
Some technical info...
Hello!
There is a way to detect if You are using tethering. Basically - tethering is routing - adding one more point in communications. So - if You just use Your phone, packets are addressed from/to Your phone. But if You are tethering - packets are addressed to device behind phone (using phone as gateway, basically router with NAT).
So - they may check:
ARP tables
TTLs
OS specific packets/DNS requests/used IP's (Why would Your phone check for MS updates? )
other things...
My 6 year old son threw a tantrum today and destroyed my SGH-1337m's LCD. I'd like to replace it with a Google Edition S4, but I'm having a hell of a time getting to the US google play devices website. I live in Canada and somehow Google manages to detect that I'm not from the US. I have a US credit card available and I can get it shipped to a US address - I just need to be able to order the damn thing and for that I need the US Play store to think I'm in the US. But I'm having a hell of a time tricking it into believing that.
First, I tried signing out of my gmail/google account and creating a new one with 'US' as the country. No good. I still get the "Unavailable in your country" web page.
Fair enough - they're doing IP tracking, I guess, right? So I tried connecting to play.google.com through a VPN into San Francisco. This is a VPN connection that has never failed to spoof a service or website into thinking that I'm in the US. Hulu, Netflix, whatever. And yet Google still tells me that the site is "Unavailable in your country".
Someone suggested that it might be that Chrome itself is somehow tipping play.google.com off, so I tried Safari and I tried Chrome in incognito mode. No good. The GE S4 is still "Unavailable in your country".
I think to myself that this is getting kind of crazy and I look around the net for more suggestions. Someone in a stackexchange post suggests that Google is figuring this out by IP-locating not just the request that your https request came in over, but also the DNS request for play.google.com itself?
I noticed that play.google.com is just a CNAME for www3.l.google.com. When I dig for the IP address in Canada, I get play.google.com resolved to a range of addresses from 74.125.225.193 - 74.125.225.206. When I look up the DNS from the US using a website DNS lookup tool, however, play.google.com resolves to a range of addresses from 173.194.46.0 - 173.194.46.14. AHA!
So I edit my /etc/hosts file so that play.google.com always resolves to 173.194.46.0. And yet somehow, the US Google Play devices store and in it the Google Edition Galaxy S4 is still "Unavailable in your country".
Does anyone have anymore ideas?
If you can get it shipped to an address in the US, have that person order it?

Alas, I'm ordering it myself. I'm getting it shipped to Hagen's of Blaine (which is a shipping company). I live in Vancouver so I can drive over to pick it up when it arrives. And for the credit card I'm using entropay.
At this point I could probably just order a vm on a hosting service like Azure and pay from an RDP session to the VM - that would be fool-proof. But I'm really interested now in how Google is figuring out that I'm not in the U.S. Accessing their US IP addresses from an incognito window going through a VPN that's spilling my packets into the internet in San Fran should really be sufficient. But somehow they're still catching me.
I guess this is why they get paid the big bucks.

Yeah - I'm using StrongVPN. I thought about trying UnblockUS, but I saw some complaints on their forums saying that Google made some sort of a change and now UnblockUS can't be used to get to the play store. The last time I attempted to access the Play Store Devices was about 3 weeks ago with UnblockUS region settings set to USA. It worked then, I'm working and won't be able to test from home again for a couple weeks though. However UnblockUS does have a free trial
