Create a Windows 8 app - Windows 8 General

I dont like the icons for non metro apps and was wandering if there is a way to create an app that all it does is opens the exe that you want and have a metro tile?
It does seem possible and you can copy over the code used for all your other exe's

I'm not sure I understand... You want to replace a App's icon, correct? If yes, some App's can help or go to TechMeShow on YouTube and look for the Windows 8 hack video that shows you how to hack around the file/folder permission and you can access the files in folder for the App and perhaps even change the Artwork from their.

Ok the apps that are not metro apps. When you pin them to metro you get a blue background with a small icon on top. I want to make them look like metro tiles but I dont think you can. So thats why I was thinking of creating a metro app that opens the files you want so you can add a metro icon.

icons on themes, dialer skin.

I have tried to search and find what to do to install a theme that has icons, and cannot figure it out. Do I need some program that everyone is using? Also on dialer skins how are those installed?
Do skins kill battery life or use alot of system resources?
Thanks
What theme? If its HTC home, you install the .cab file from the phone or sync the phone to pc and double click .exe.
If its a .tsk file, Put the file in the windows directory of the phone then go to today screen and select from there.
Skins dont use a lot of system resources UNLESS they are actively doing something( S2U2 for example if you install a moving gif as your wallpaper) as they are just being used instead of the originals.. Cheers...
yea, u need to be a wee bit more clear as to what you want, you're probably new and dont know the right terms, so maybe if you posted some pics we could understand a bit better what u are trying to achieve.
this is the style im looking for http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=51534&d=1190401691 with the big clock and some icons below. I think that I will need a plug in to show the icons. I installed a tsk theme but it only changed the color of the top and bottom bars, but did not show the large clock or icons like that one. I saved it to the memory card, not within a folder and I was able to browse find and install it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry Im New
thanks,
Nicholas
that big clock is the htc home plugin, which you can download all over this forum, or at www.pocketemu.com which incidentally also has another program called htc home customizer, which would be the easiest way to customize the home icons. It may not have that exact theme you are looking for, so the best way to get that theme is to ask the person who posted that screenshot

Ditto. Welcome to the addiction...I'm lucky to keep the same clock and icons for more than a week...

Is bigger icons possible?

I love the EVO and android's OS, but it supposed to be open, and very customizable?
I know their is some app in the market that makes apps get alot bigger and turn them into widgets, but.
Is their an app that allows the users to customize the size on the homescreen the app icon is. I would really want that. And pay for it.
I am rooted btw
Anybody???
RE iCONS
dude its Android there is always a free Alternative i Use FolderOrganizer, Allows you to customize Icons, remove labels from Icon packs or even if you create your own on photoshop or any photo editor even photos you took on your camera, Any image Jpeg or Png would work check different sizes
search "Bigger Icons Widget" in the market.

[Q] Custom icons for third party apps in MIUI?

I've been wondering if there's a way to add custom icons for third party apps in MIUI ROM. I know you can change icons of applications by opening the .apk and replacing the icon file inside but MIUI adds its own background for third party apps' icons. So my question is, how can I prevent MIUI from doing that?
The default icons seem to be located in the farmework-res.apk inside "drawable-hdpi-finger" folder. I tried adding new icons there and naming them to "icon_handcent.png" or "icon_handcent_sms.png" etc. but this didn't work.
And just to be clear I don't want any widgets like Desktop Visualizer or BetterCut to make new shortcuts. All of those apps make the new shortcuts as widgets and therefore they can't be added in the dockbar or inside folders.
Thanks in advance

I recon that if you create an icon that is exactly the same size as MIUI makes its icons then you wont be able to see the background it puts behind it.
What happens if you make an app's icon a black square that fills the whole png? Does it obscure any MIUI backgrounds?
ive been trying to add icons to this folder too but not had any luck. Im guessing it is contained in an xml telling the launcher to use those icons in the framework.res instead of the ones inside the apk itself.
Ive looked through a load of xmls in launcher and in framework but cant seem to find it anywhere.
On a side note i have read over on droidforums that by changing the icon for the apk contained in data/system/customized_icons then this will display the new icon of your choosing. So instead of placing your icon in the drawable_hdpi_finger folder, place them in there.

look here guys ^^^^^^^^
you will find all the miui generated 3rd party icons will be in there. Try replacing those (may need to wipe cache to apply, not sure)
and fyi the way miui makes icons is the same as iphone now. It uses icon_mask to limit the drawable size of the original icon, then applyies it on icon_pattern on top of icon_background, and finally places icon_frame over top of it all. all those files are found in framewrok-res.apk inside the drawable-hdpi finger folder
im trying to change the main icons not the customized ones. is there a folder for that? like settings and gallery icons.

Yes, in framework-res.apk there is a folder called drawable-hdpi-finger. All system apps have their icon in there. If you place your new icons in there then they will then be changed on the main screen.
What i still havent worked out is how to add icons in there for other apps such as handcent or dialerone.
i think the default_workspace.xml would need the app and package adding to it but i laso think there would be another step somewhere, not tried it yet.
wheres the framwork-res.apk located?
Is there a way to completely avoid this resize?

Is that the reason why MIUI resize the 3rd party app inside data/system/custom icons??
Is there a way to completely avoid this resize?
I have overwritten the background, for example, and now I have no unwanted background.
I can decide for the border, remove it the same.
But overwrite the icon_mask seems do not change the MIUI resizeing.
What have I to do?
Thank you in advance, to everybody who would help

I struggle finding this folder. Where is it?
I got this folder "system/customize" but no icons there. The "data" folder is empty.
Help please :3

How did you manage to overwrite the background? I found the customized_icons folder but just can't find the icon_background or icon_frame files on my system.
Help appreciated.

Custom Icons [how do I?]

So what is the process for getting custom icons onto the tablet and having them properly associated with their respective apps?
Say, I have a new Browser icon I want to use... what's the next step?
Can 'o' worms question, I know...
Personally I use folder organizer (from the market). It allows you to change an icon for a particular app or create a folder with several app in it. For example, a games folder with the icon of your choice will open a folder with whatever games you put in it (and can customize those icons as well)
Hope that helps.
Thanks Steve, I'll take a look at that now.
EDIT***
Okay, sorta works but a little too convoluted... You have to change each icon individually then add each app you've changed as a widget. I'm looking to do something more in the way of an icon pack that will swap out all the icons at once (of the ones I've made and apps supported).
I use Desktop Visualizer; however, this is also a 'one at a time' process.
I am not familiar with a process to change the icons 'en mass'.
This is a great thread for icon packs and there's some basic information on changing icons in the first post. It's possible though, that one of the icon developers listed in the thread will be able to answer your question.
Thanks for the info Franwella
I'll make my morning reading.

Manually edit tile icons in Start Menu?

Hello,
I've been searching for a while but I couldn't find sufficient answers on how to do this.
Is there a tutorial to manually make and set tile icons for any program/app that fill up the tiles as a whole just like Store app icons, without using any editing software?
The reason I want to do this manually is because the apps in the Windows Store that can edit these icons have to pop up every time I start the program that I have edited its icon with the editing app. This seems to be something that can't be disabled in Windows 10
Oblytile seemed to be a good editing app that doesn't pop up every time you start up the program you've edited its icon of, but unfortunately it's not compatible with Windows 10 anymore.
Also, if there is an editing app that doesn't pop up, I'd really like it to be able to also make wide tiles (not just small or medium squared tiles) since some editing apps don't support that.
Looking forward to answers on this.

Yes, just look for "Customize Tiles on Windows 10 Start Menu" on youtube or something like that.
Something that bothers me is that icons also change on the taskbar, when the program is running, which is something I want to avoid, and I don't know how to keep the original icon on the taskbar.

Thanks for the reply. The problem is, I can't find any way to make wide tiles manually. I think this would need an app but the problem is that apps usually always pop up for a very brief moment when you open the concerning app for which you've made a customized wide tile.
