Hi I'm new to this forum, I know about rooting and such as I did root before on my, now bricked, motorola backflip and my rooted Motorola Atrix 2, but I am buying a mytouch 4g from my friend and it is on 2.3.4 and I've seen on the forum that you can only root on 2.2.1, do I have to use the complicated way in this guide, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912, to downgrade or is there a faster and easier way?
Nope. Thats the only way unless you wanna use htc-dev which is horrible. It looks more difficult than it actually is.
please read EVERYTHING before attempting this...
this is the guide i used and it worked perfectly :
BOOM
HERE is a youtube video that shows the steps also
(( theres also a GFREE method but that didnt work for me but this method did ))
you'l need to downgrade them temp root then perm root
good luck
here's the perm root when your done w/ that ^up there^
RAWR
also has a youtube guide

in the world of hacking anything ( except the ios... babystuff ) your gonna come across those kinds of guides that have alot of stuff
its scary but once you do it, you realize it wasn't that hard.. just take ur time and read through it , its not as hard as it looks
+ once ( if ) you start flashing roms your gonna be happy that you did this.
oh.. and once this is done, you can flash a rom that will upgrade you from 2.2 (froyo) to at least 4.0 ( ics )
i recommend Virtuous Infinity's latest build or if you want something more iphone-ish ...flash Skytouch 4g
There's no "easy way" in the world of hacking, you can't be lazy when it comes to this...but the method isn't really that hard.

Gfree works on all eMMC's. Root.sh does not. Fyi.

Embedded Micro Memory Controller.
The glacier shipped with two different types. The older model, which was seemingly less prone to failure, was on devices that could be rooted with root.sh. On the later chips, including mine, you had to use gfree, as whatever exploit root.sh used no longer worked.
This is what I've gathered from my time on the boards. Jack_R1 would know for sure.

does ubrevoked work for rooting DHD because the root method is abit complicated I heard unrevoked roots any 2.2 device which run 2.2 out of the box.

Have a look for visionary+
Not sure if Unrevoked is only for the original Desire but the above will do the job nicely.
Is it an easy root? That's all I want a a few clicks and walla a rooted DHD
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Doesn't come much easier, run the app and hit root! If that's all you want then you're done!
If you want to start flashing custom roms though you will need to s-off your phone though. A little more in depth but still not too bad.
That's the what is s off also I might as well root after the official gingerbread release or should I just root now?
Which would be best.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Depends what you want to do with the DHD ... I forgot to mention also that you will need a custom recovery image if you want to start flashing roms. Again, all pretty straight forward if you follow the instrucitons to the letter.
Have a read here:

unrevoked DOESN'T Work for DHD, ive already tried, and bricked my device!!!!!

I suspect that afte rooting you'll not be too bothered about ota updates from your carrier as the stock unbranded rom is likely to get updates sooner and the custom roms will always incorporate the latest releases anyway.
In answer to the question though I'm not sure in all honesty.
thanks for all your help.
I seen on YouTube somebody clock there Touch to 1.7 ghz but whenever I clock my touch it can't go higher than the stock 1.0 ghz why is this happening ?

What ROM &/or kernel are you running? Certain ones allow for higher overclocking...

Follow Gfree method and I assure you you'll get perm root.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4B4y0CQUDo
Also, you can't get higher than 1ghz because the stock kernel caps at 1ghz. You'll need to perm root and flash either a new kernel or a new ROM to allow OC'ing past 1ghz.

That would be why. First of all, the stock kernel can't be overclocked, it's coding won't allow that (or if it can be overclocked, it can't be very stable). Secondly, you must perm root for any custom clock settings to stick after a reboot. If you haven't been able to perm root, it may because you have the "bad" eMMC. A rooting method that works in that case is posted as a sticky in the dev section.
Thanks both of u anyway just in case I have a bad emmc can I have a link to dev way of rooting with that bad emmc

you are incorrect. a plethora if users with the "bad" emmc have reported inability to root via visionary.
I still don kno if I have the bad emmc or not but I was still able to root it via gfree yesterday

search on xda. you will find the thread on how to check.
I can attest to the gfree + visionary method posted under the stickies. I was brand new to rooting and this method worked flawlessly for me. Only a week ago I didn't even know what rooting was, now I have the ULTIMATE s-off with engineering hboot (0.85.2007) and I have flashed the virtuous unity 1.31 pyramid with v4 kernel. I also loaded the Perfect Rosie 3.0 mod and the panache radio. XDA has been the best resource for me. I just wish I had enough posts to "thank" all the devs out there for the tools to get it done.

No you cannot flash roms and mods when you are temp rooted as you have to reboot. When you reboot you are no longer temp rooted. Be patient things are sorting themselves out ,a dev is on it people are trying to get him devices so he can achieve full root.
Might as well get use to stock roms... could be a WHILE!! lol no one even has a clue. all we know is a few people are looking into it. with HTC having a stick up there *** and not releasing the GB kernal/rom we are stuck waiting.
no, you need full root
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=936
So I was in g2x forum, and they said you can flash a recovery without root. Then with recovery you can flash a rom.
Don't know if it works like that with our phones though.

You need full root to flash recovery. End of story

Completely different phone. Perm rooting is dependant on the hardware's boot loader security. With the GB update on the shift hboot got updated and changed the security.

is there any way to root mytouch 4g 2.3.4
would i have to downgrade to 2.2.1?
yes, downgrade to 2.2.1, root, flash the rom of your choice
you have to downgrade at the moment. If you to to the development section for our phone, then look for resource Bible. In the guide section, there's 2 threads on how to downgrade your phone to 2.2.1 . Once that is done you can either root with gfree or root.sh.
From my fist to your face, enjoy.
You can do the above mentioned.. or just wait. There are ppl working on a straight method.

If you have s=off already all you need to do is flash a recovery image, then backup/wipe/flash the ROM of your choice.

First you need to get temporary root access, follow this link
http://theunlockr.com/2010/10/20/how-to-root-the-t-mobile-g2-htc-vision-visionary-method/
Then follow this link and the instructions on how to get permanent root access.
http://theunlockr.com/2010/11/30/how-to-gain-permanent-root-and-s-off-on-the-t-mobile-g2-htc-vision/
This is how I rooted my G2 when I had it. After, you can follow the tutorials on how to load custom ROMs.
Always remember to do a nandroid backup before flashing anything on your phone.
Thanks to theunlockr.com.
Good luck!

if he has the latest ota, he needs to follow the whole downgrade, root, s-off process in the g2 dev section.
use the built in search on xda to find it.
True, my G2 had Android 2.2 when I rooted; since then it got the gingerbread update.

On an unrelated note, though, I totally used theunlockr to root my phone ;D although gfree was highly recomended shortly afterwards, I never ran into any problems, which I thought was cool xD VIRTUAL HIGH FIVE BRO!
I rooted my G2 by following the cyanogenMod wiki. It's really easy to follow and it worked like a charm. Even my myTouch 4g used the exact same procedure. If you are on gingerbread firmware you will need to downgrade. Guide for that is here and then root the phone with this guide here. From then on you can flash any rom you'd prefer.
I have op 2.3 this hard I don't under stan how to down grade I have down load adb in windows 7 when I put the files on sd and I pull cmd out and put the codes in I get nothing so how do I run adb is the any other way to down grade and get root easy
