This morning I thought something like "Everyone's buying the OX or the OS and the DHD is dying in history and I didn't even have it for 2 years. ".
But some minutes ago I looked into the Android dev forum again and suddenly... Trickdroid!
A friend had told me many stories about Trickdroid, how good and fast and everything it is and I just wanted to have it also. And now we have it!
Then went back to the forum - another new ROM!
Well, now I think that the DHD is having its second spring.
What do you think about it? Will the DHD ever die or will it become a phone like the HD2?
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using a ROM.
I have had an Inspire 4G(Desire HD for ATT) for a year and a half now. Thanks to the devs I can run Jelly Bean and ICS with sense on it. This phone may not live as long as the G1 but thanks to the devs here it will last alot longer than HTC would have allowed.:victory:
I have the same opinion about a phone. When you buy it make sure there is a XDA developer that work hard on it. If not is a dead or boring phone(see Iphone).
When DHD devs will leave us, than you can consider that the last days of this phone are coming.
Thanks again to all the devs that keep this phone alive.

That's exactly what I am thinking.
The DHD will die when the last Dev stopped working on it.
I hope that won't happen for a very long time, cause I really like that phone.
Not for now. I just got my inspire earlier this year and if I learn to dev well enough, I'll try my best to keep it going.
Sent from a dream.
I doubt it. The Inspire is still being sold by ATT. It has enough RAM and CPU and an HSPA+ radio so even a year from now it would still be an average mid-low range device. And new economy phones are still being released with lower specs than ours (albeit they have official ICS on them).
i am a g8 fan of stable roms . . . . So i used only ARHD. . . .
I was g8ly dissapointd when Arhd stopped updating and no new stable roms were there. . .
But yesterday i saw trickdroid. . . Stablest rom. . . Thank god. . . .
Now am damn happy. . . .
The HTC Desire HD is still going strong. Although I'm curious about Windows Phone 8 or the Samsung Galaxy Note II for my next phone, I'm still keeping and intend to keep the ROM list up-to-date for our Desire HD's. It's a quick way of keeping an eye on development.
One day it will .... but until then , ENJOY with the latest version of Android 4.1.1 on your DHD
I also thought about it before all this wave of ICS Sense ROMs,
Its a great opportunity to say thanks to Virtuous team that actually saved our community.
Without their amazing work of the kernel 3.0 we would all be still in GB or in a buggy ICS ROM that no one updates,
They totally freed the ICS Chakra that HTC couldn't do,
And now the water flows like a huge river.
I hope it will last for at least until we get a perfect ROM (Revolution should close that deal).
I like many thought the DHD would be more and more a dinosaur as time goes by with HTC dropping updates. However HTC did me a favour by doing this as it made me root my phone to try some of the great roms available here on XDA. Now my phone has a new lease of life thanks to all the hard working devs here!
I certainly will be keeping my DHD, one of the best phones (IMO) available and it can still hold it's own with the newer 'big boys' :good:
i believe its going to continue until android 5.0 or even 6.0 lolol
Having owned a Desire HD and now the One X (Tegra), I agree with most of you. The DHD has the hardware to support AOSP/CM builds for the next few iterations of Android yet to come. With the bloat of HTC Sense, its obvious that the DHD struggles. Thats why I exclusively used AOSP & CM builds.
If you read the XDA Portal, you would've seen recently that the G1, yes the G1, has JB. There are a good few issues. But it shows that with aging devices, not all is lost.
The key point is to enjoy our devices today, for what they have now, not for something that is not guaranteed for the future. For those who have recently got the Desire HD, its still a great handset. I enjoyed everyday of owning mine.
TL;DR - They DHD will die, but not for a long while yet.
I think the next era is coming to this epic device
Is Sense4 the last thing we can have?
No! Our great Devs is now working on Sense4.1/4.5 and it seems promising

No announcement for Legend though.
w00t! Desire gets Gingerbread! Can't wait for it to come out!
dont ...
don't hold your breath for the improvements it's not really worth it especially for htc
download the 2.3 keyboard and you got 1/3 of the update
as 2.3 is mainly NFC support(dosnt apply) new keyboard(i person like htc's better cuz of the content text prediction) and improved copy and past

I don't understand HTC... First what does that mean to use the same name of their concurrents for their new phones ??? Desire "S" ? wildfire "S" ?
serioulsy, are they thinking that people will buy their phone cause they thing of the SGS or the NS ?
Second, a new desire, a new wildfire, and no new Legend ? WTF ? It's the best design they got among their phones, and they still do some crappy plastic phone (ok it's a bit strong, not crappy).
A new Legend, more slim, maybe a bit bigger screen, new proc but still in one piece of aluminium and here we go, they would have sell that more than they will sell the wildfire "S" !
Anyway, the gingerbread roms will be available soon for Legend. There is CM7 RC, and when the wildfire S come out, some SENSE ROM will for sure be released...
Thanks to the the great developers we have the chance to have in the community !! Thx you all.
i think that Legend update will be announced... for me it about 85%
maybe after this spring
You remember how long it took HTC to announce an update to FroYo (It was about half a year after Google announced 2.2)
So if HTC will update the Legend to 2.3 it will probably be summer before they release it.
heard that a lot of devs don't think 2.3 is worth the R&D, so are waiting for 2.4.
The desire out sold the legend 10 fold on release this forum is bearly alive compared to the desire's. The wildfire sold like hot cakes because of the price so unless they priced the legend at £250-£275 it would fail just like this 1 did.
Don't get me wrong I would like to see a legend s but look at it from a marketing point of view an you will see why it makes no sense at all.
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App
I think that 2.3.2 is a big possibility for Legend, why you ask?
Well it is simple. Wildfire S is almost a clone of legend (600mhz, 3.2" and 480x320 screen) so the software will probably be easy to port over to Legend.
now the problem is operators. Do they rather want us to buy a new handset or upgrade.
yup... Agreed, the Legend forum is barely alive. There is only 2 almost perfected rom that is available. Unlike the desire forum, there's lots of goodies there =(
IMHO, update the htc legend to 2.3 (2.4 too) will not be.
Sorry for my english, please.
If we get 2.3 it will be down to the great devs here on xda not HTC. 2.3 was out before HTC released froyo for the legend so not much chance of them bothering.
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App
Why make these claims? They could very well turn round and give us a special release of 2.3 with the new Sense for the special 'few' who got the Legend, ya just never know!
My view is simple: Wait and see, and not make claims about us not getting 2.3. How many of you would still use 2.3 and HTC Sense? Most of us here are running custom ROM's anyway which don't use Sense....
Just saying...

Not for Voda Legends
For those who're desperate to try out 2.3 and have rooted their Legends and are also capable of flashing a ROM, you can of course try out the CyanogenMod 7 nightlies. They're based on 2.3 unless I'm grossly misinformed.
When CM7 is finished, I may well give it a try, provided it's not a giant clusterbuck of a mess compared to blay0's ROMs...
I just want the new notification drop down down menu and the re arrangeable home screens from the new sense ..

I'm running CM7 full 3 (oh, full 4's out) with the radio upgrade from the dev forums, and it's pure awsome. gingerbread googness. battery life and speed are off the charts.
blayo's rom is very good, but i gotta say CM7's... gingerbread.
you'll loose flash lite, but the novelty wore off quickly for me.
lets be honest, it's pants.

So happy to see so much development going on for the SGS2, looks like Samsung really have it together and understand how to please everyone. I'm sure this phone will be their best selling so far and rightfully so!
I'm not manufacturer loyal and the SGS2 is my first Samsung, but I can't really think of any reason so far why my next phone wouldn't be another Samsung.

Hey, good to see you here. Atinm and Codeworkx are the guys who are working hard to get AOSP working at the moment, but they're struggling with some issues. There are several threads here where they give progression updates every now and then. I know things haven't always been good between you and CM developers on the Desire, but I believe Atinm and Codeworkx are happily sharing information with other -serious- developers so it might be worth contacting them. Well, it's great to see you here and I hope you get it working soon!

coooool how did you do that!
It’s been awhile since the last update and I just wanted to let everyone know about our progress with CM9. As I mentioned in the previous update, Android 4.0 contains many internal changes that require updated graphics drivers. Unfortunately, these drivers are almost always closed-source and don’t appear until a device or devkit is released with them. For many devices, our hands are tied. Some very clever workarounds have gone into CM9, but we’re still blocked on some subsystems like the camera.
Since Android 4.0 is such a major change from 2.3, we started with a fresh codebase from Google and have been forward-porting features from CM7 with an eye on design and better integration. This is a somewhat time-consuming process, but it allows us to rethink everything. We’ve eliminated the CMParts app, instead choosing to add our custom features directly into the main settings. We are also taking a “just works” approach when it comes to configuration- CM7 had too many options that just weren’t widely used. We hope to achieve a good balance between tweakability and a great out-of-the-box experience. I want your phone or tablet to feel like it should have come with CM9.
Currently, you can compile CM9 for a small number of devices- notably the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (Wi-Fi and T-Mobile versions), the HP Touchpad and Motorola Xoom. The next devices to show up will likely be a whole array of Samsung phones (Exynos chipset), with devices based on the Qualcomm MSM8660 and 7×30 chipsets to follow. It’s still unclear if we can provide support for the QSD8x50 family of devices (Nexus One, HTC Evo, etc), but the answer almost always turns out to be “yes” for these kinds of things.
As our hardware support improves, I’ll keep this blog updated. As much as we’d like to stay ahead of the manufacturers, it may be a tie this time Thanks for the continued support, and please consider dropping us a buck or two using the link at the bottom of the page if you enjoy CyanogenMod.

Lack of GPU a Heavy Loss
As we don't have a GPU in Wildfire, we won't be able to enjoy the animation and effects in ICS.
Gingerbread Animation stumbles often in CM7.1. If the wildy was equipped with a GPU, it would definitely be getting ICS officially.... FYI, HTC Wildfire @ buzz is the 7th device in most installation according to CM stats.
Atleast I'm happy with it for 2 years now... Better than My Girlfriend... LOL..
Just tried out the ICS by ErwinP and i found it quiet good. OC'ed to 652MHz and it was a bit smooth. The lack of GPU showed when the screen became slow when coming out of the app drawer.
Live wallpapers didn't work at all like the camera. But the rest was smooth. Wifi , calls , sms , images etc.
Give it a time and it may become stable on wildfire.

Hi all,
i read this :
http://htc.hdblog.it/2013/05/30/and...rtphone-htc-candidati-allaggiornamento-rumor/
It's a fake?
No, It is TOTALLY FAKE.
list says NO to provide updates to Incredible S(Sense 3.6 Android 4.0.4), even One S(4.1), Desire X(4.0.4), Desire Z
Incredible S has same chip, screen resolution as DHD,
One S is mid-range 2012 branched between S3 and S4 chips. One S with S3 recivied update later than S4.
not on the list however, One V is low-end 2012 phone has same chip, screen resolution as DHD. still on Android 4.0.3 only in One series.
They vevn cancelled ICS for DHD during testing phase, ediited their promise after 5 months.(August 2012, 21 months since release) made DHD remain on 2.3.5 Gingerbread, EOLed without further support
I think this list is fake.
Don't wait for update. go out and get something new.
thanks to devs, have plenty of 4.0.3 ROMs. even 4.1, 4.2 but NEXUS experience
TalkAndroid has shown this as well from Source:Technosamigos.com, but I highly doubt it is legit!! Can always hope tho!!
We should get 4.3, but not with Sense and not officially, lol.
I myself can actualy not be bothered with what HTC does next for the DHD.
I waited all this time and stil have no official android 4, there's no hope anymore.
But you gotta love XDA and its members. As i have now a DHD with Android 4.2 and it runs flawlesly. Something HTC could not do.
(So let's just hurry with that Galaxy Note 3 so i don't have to deal with HTC anymore. )
The dhd appeared on some list of devices that would get the 4.1 update. So no, I really don't think it's going to happen. And basically I don't care because I have moved to a custom rom.
Still interested how the new Sense looks, never seen anything newer than what came with dhd stock rom.
HTC Ditched the DHD for ICS so when it comes to Android 4.3 i very much doubt it will come from HTC maybe the XDA Community but not HTC.
Who needs a 4.3 update from HTC anyway with so many flawless custom roms for the desire HD running 4.x.x

Fake!!
Dude! there is no question arises that HTC will provide the office 4.3 update to our HTC desire HD.
and who cares if HTC provides an update or not. We have rooted our Desire HD and can flash any ROMs which are stable and giving the best result! http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/good.gif
I wonder if its worth changing to 4.3 when it comes out, when I first switched to the 4.2.2 there were so many bugs and compatibility issues
Do you guys realize that what you are talking about has already been discussed when we had the 4.1 rumor and the ics fiasco?

Cool story bro 4.3 for this old device, our end of support has already finished and also it is marked by HTC as "discontinued"
Why is the hero on the list (totally irrevelant to be on the list.) , and why isn't the sensation on the list.
They may be forgivening for the ics scandal but as I know HTC ; I highly doubt this with their marketing technique of not giving updates.
Also when did rumours become popular? It's not even a reliable source (ie the 4.1 and 4.2 list)

It's definately not true. I contacted HTC directly and asked them directly and got this reply:
Dear xxxx xxxxxx,
Thank you for contacting HTC regarding your handset.
My name is Katrine and I am a Technical Support Agent for the HTC Written Team.
The HTC Desire HD will not be upgraded from Android 2.3.5. The phone did not receive the Android 4 update, and nor did it receive the android 4.1 update. It will not be receiving the Android 4.2.2 update either unfortunately. The HTC desire HD will not receive any further updates, as we have discovered that the phone is running best on Android 2.3.5.
The phone simply does not have the required hardware specifications to run smoothly, quickly and efficiently on higher updates.
I do apologize for the inconvenience, and I do understand your frustration.

Obviously NO ONE at HTC know about xda developers and all the wonderful roms greater than 2.3.5 that run smoothly & crash less often than stock unrooted os. Very sad indeed.
I think we all know the true reason no more updates without me saying it...

For HTC It's all about the money.
Even though XDA has extended the life of my Desire HD considerably, I will never buy an HTC phone again simply because they went back on their promise.
Not to mention that the Galaxy S4 does indeed look like an amazing phone...

They only went back on the update after realizing they'd have to reformat the data and system partitions which would piss off a lot of inexperienced customers. I doubt you can keep your word as often as you'd think, I hope your friends and family are more forgiving than you.
They're canceling on the One S too: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/HTC-One-S-Outdated-Updates,23376.html.
