Hi all,
Tested Elelinux and few other 2.3 roms. Couldn't get WIFI Hotspot work. What rom is the most stable for WIFI Hotspotting?
I'm using my Hero only as 3G modem, but using cable is pain in... Anyway, I need WIFI Hotspotting.
Anyone?
I use elelinux's rom and I find I can use it for Wireless Tethering. Have you tried a different app, I use the app by Muller, Lemons, Buxton.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/developer?id=Müller,+Lemons,+Buxton
My phone gets a bit warm after a bit of use though..
Use the lowest possible android version since low versions = older phones, older phones = bad hardware, bad hardware = less power used to run = faster and colder phone
Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254386, it's eclair without sense i think, and just put that app that user above me said
As for roms, I use elelinux gingerbread. Before I used a 2.1 sense rom, and that overheated my phone a lot - it got burning hot - and it used up the battery even when charging. With elelinux it only gets slightly warm.
As for apps, none of the apps in this thread has worked for me, and the only one I have found to work is aNetShare.

Its not your router. Its kernel related. For some reason alot off people are having wifi troubles with newer kernels. I also have dlink and wifi is alwaysjacked up. It was fine with older kernels.
But why mattock 1.8 works.I use 1.8 with hastarin 8

Can I copy the files of 1.8 to any builds(only the ppp n wifi).will that work

Are you having this problem on cm6 builds, or just sense builds?
If you use search tool u'll find the proper tool that fixes this issue...
Please use search option before posting.
Thanks
Er.. what are ya talking about there is yet to be any fix for the ppp problem - unless i'm mistaken ?
With the newest kernels, and CM6 (hyperdroid ultimate) my data connection freezes INSANELY often. Really sucks.
in my opinion usability was generally better when i first started slapping android onto my HD2 several months ago.. I've gone through so many kernels i can barely remember which ones worked now..
really hoping for some gingerbread action statistico or if WP7 actually runs well i'd give up android for general usability..
I am still looking for a kernel + build combo for a stable ppp connection. the ppp disconnection drives me crazy~

Hi,
since some time, I am experiencing problems with my data connection. I dont really now, why but those persist through changes of AndroidOS, Radio and WM-ROM.
The Facts: HD2 european version, Operator: O2 Germany
The Problem in detail: When I am at home, I want to use my WLAN connection but some times, it doesnt connect to it. I have to manually go into the menu and reset my wlan-connection, so it works. Much more annoying is the fact, that when I am not at home (and WLAN is out of range), the phone often doesnt connect HSPA/3G/GSM/whatever and programms like maps, opera etc just claim to not having a data connection ready, though there are 2 to 4 bars. Only way to solve this -> go to flight mode, thet deactivate flight mode OR deactivate data connection, then reacivate it. Either way its annoing and mails won't be downloaded in this time, too.
My first setups, when I didnt have this problem where with WM OZDroid ROM, 2.12.50.XX Radio and many different Androidbuilts (no working compass / lightsensor etc - you know for sure ) Then I got to MDJ-Roms which I really liked and I never used another since those times. Still no Problems.
Then, by some time, I installed a new MDJ ROM - Mdeejay_FroYo_Sense_v._1.1_Clean_R75. This Rom needet to have PIN-auth disabled in Windows or it hung up in LOOP ( ). Sadly I installed a new WM-ROM and radio at the same time (I know, never change multiple parts at once... ugh!). Those where VBNDroid-Reloaded2-21913-Oct08 and Radio 2.15.50.14.
Since that time, I have this strange connection problem. I allready changed back to an oZDroid version and tried Radio 2.12 and 2.15. As Android ROM, i used MDJ eVo Sense Revolution 1.8 and now Mdeejay_FroYo_Revolution_v._1.6_S3. - Still the same problems.
I allready had the idea to reactivate PIN-auth but this option doesnt exist in my actual WM-OzDroid ROM.
Is there anyone experiencing the same problems or able to give me a hint in this case? I'am really not one of those persons "gimmie a new OS and I kill you if it doesnt work" - I know Android is work-in-progress but with all those superb fixes in past (lightsensor, compass etc) i cannot believe that a basic part like internet connection isnt working properly.
Thanks a lot for helping me out,
cmoe
RMNET
I think you'll find plenty of others who have had the same problem and some have had success with changing builds, kernels etc. There's plenty of stuff out there if you search on it.
I used to have data problems but switched to RMNET rather than PPP. You need to use a build that allows you to change this though and luckily for me, Bangsters 1.5 is such a build. It's not a sense build.
RMNET gets a bad press for it's speed, but to be honest it is perfectly ok for browsing the web. I leave all my downloading and updating till I'm on WiFi at home.
Regards your wifi issue, I have 'power control' widget on my homescreen and just switch WiFi off and on. Much easier than going into settings.

This might sound a bit noobish, but I was wondering if someone can recommend an android ROM which provides a stable data connection with the windows stock ROM WWE 3.14 (Radio 2.15.40) with SPL (not HSPL)
I'm currently using the mdeejay froyo sense (v2.4). The pain for me is that the 3G connection rarely works, even in areas with full bars, and the roamin data connection tends to drop out a fair bit as well despite full bars. I've tried rebooting, and that normally works but it is real pain to have to reboot on so many occasions (not to mention slow). I tried switchin to airplane mode and then switching the mobile network on again, but that doesn't seem to work.
I currently have the COre evo ver. 04 for android and love it. I am using simple mobile for service. My only gripe with this build is that my mms take forever to send and sometimes I don't get them. What in you guys' opinion is the best build?
I think it's all a question of tastes/features. For example, I don't use MMS, so your build according to your tastes would be perfect for me. But in my case, having a camera that doesn't work, a GPS that doesn't work well, etc. doesn't fly with me. Bluetooth I don't use, internet I hardly use...
When it comes to build stability though, for myself, even though I don't like sense, I use Froyo Revolution 1.6 with MDJ S4... It's fast, stable and everything for me works.
This question has been asked by alot of people alot of times and it doesn't always end well!
Just tryng to find something better than what I have
Thanks for the reply I'm just trying find a the most stable build with everything working . I use bluetooth, camera, internet, mms, gps, etc. Just about all the popular things. Just tring to find something better than what I have
In my opinion the best build till this time is MDJ FroYo Sense Clean v. 2.4 with MDJ S6.1 kernel because its the first build that i tried to use everyday without any problems. Camera, Music, no sod and very fast (with installed LauncherPro by myself).
Before this build I had been staying on CM6 for two weeks but there were no camera, no gps, bad internet connection with difficulties when press start (internet) button ON.
i recommend mccm. you almost don't need to add anything because it's already great, looks-wise, function-wise, apps-wise. none of that boring looks from other builds where you have to install some apps first to make it prettier. the main problem is data drops. but maybe you'll be luckier than me. or if it happens to you, just try changing kernel/radio or add some fixes, i don't know.
This is a brand new unrooted Mytouch 4G, so I suppose I haven't done anything wrong yet. =P
I tried the wifi connection on this phone, and it usually works great. But I later found out the it's not very stable. I carry this phone with me and walk around the campus, it doesn't always receive wifi signal like my iPad would always do. Also, sometimes even when it shows that I am connected, the internet based software such as skype will not work (making phone call without hearing any voice).
Is there a software/app that can help? Or maybe I should root my phone for a better version of operating system?
On the stock ROM and all Sense ROMs, there is an option under WiFi Settings -> Advanced -> Best WiFi Performance. Try selecting that and see if it makes a difference.

WOO! lol i found someone in the same boat as me...I go college as well and my ipad connects fine, but my laptop and phone (for some weird reason do not). Ive tried a whole variety of differernt rom and kernel combinations including stock, but nothing would work. I really really really wanted to stay stock on my phone because I like it so much, but it just wouldnt work. Then I tried the evil 4g HD rom with fauxs sense smartass kernel and suddenly wifi was working amazing! It connected as soon as I clicked turn on wifi and stayed connected throughout the day even though I was walking around campus. Plus the rom has sense so its not straying too far from stock! I dont know what the reason is, but you should give it a go and see if it works for you!
I finally determine to try your method. I can't find evil 4G HD rom. Did you mean Evo?

I'm looking to use my HD2 as basically a pocket wifi modem.
So, I'm looking for the best rom setup to maximize its battery and stability for wifi or bt tethering.
Would it be best to go with an extremely light windows mobile build or look at other OS's ?
Windows mobile.
Better battery life & some good apps for tethering are available.
BT tethering is a little limited on HD2 due to use of widcom stack ...
I use my old touch pro as a wifi router (on WM6.5 rom) for 3G internet & it gets used daily for 4hr or more & works great, stable connection & screen can be turned off or device put to standby with reg fix ...
Expect android will do the job but battery life won't be so good plus issue of no charge ability with device off or out of power is not great for this power draining use ...
Thanks for the advice... been so long since I'd done anything with the HD2 I forgot about the charging issue when the device is off... that would present somewhat of an issue for me hah.
I figured I already have an extended battery etc for the HD2, might as well put it to work
Any recommendations for the most cut down lowest dog of a rom for this task, I envision turning off sense etc would be best but that is possible on most windows roms, are NRGz28's still the way to go or should I look else where for efficiency?
NRG is probably a good way to go.
he has/had some light versions without sense that might be just right for you.
Would not hurt to scan through the WM6.5 rom development & see what else may meet your needs.
I Have TAEL on my Touch Pro as NRG is a bit heavy for it, makes a great wifi modem.
have it in a cradle at home & friends use it for wifi when come round or I use it for mobile wifi modem when travelling if I need the HD2 on phone duty.
Should be good ...
