Be EXTRA careful when you deal with microSD Card at Xoom's Slot...

Well here is what happened just now to me... almost put me into frozen hell...
Just now I took off the microSD card to load some kernel files to flash. And when I put it back in, my FAT finger suddenly dropped the microSDCard into the space where the Slot cover should go into. (If you hold xoom horizontally, you will see the microSDcard slot is at a "upper deck" and the SDCard Slot Cover (the plastic chip) should slip into the "lower deck". My stupid finger pushed the microSDCard into lower deck instead...
and when I tried to pull it out, I made it worse because there wasn't enough edge for me to grab it, instead, I pushed it further in...
And I did not have enough lighting (into the hole)... and become a little panic. Left it alone for a minute to think of a way to get it out. (instead of pushing it further in make it stuck.
Eventually thanks god I found a clip pin, something like this:

I bent it into a hook shape and carefully put it into the slot's "lower deck", and "sweep" the microSDCard out...
So to my folks here, DO be extra carefully when you push microSDCard back to the slot. Make sure you inserted it into the right place, otherwise it may got stuck at the "lower gap" of the slot...

Had this happen once before too. I was actually able to "bend" the board just enough to make it loose and fall out. I was certain i would have to take it apart.

same happened here but went beyond the reach of anything I had! I didn't feel comfortable with the paper clips with the camera so close. I grabbed a small torx bit and slid the back panel down. I pushed it back thru with a rigid piece of paper. However there seems like there should be no worries if you had to use the paper clip retrieval method ( no exposed wires or connectors, and such). In other words..... no matter what how bad it gets, its a pretty easy fix.

. Make sure you inserted it into the right place, otherwise it may got stuck at the "lower gap" of the slot...

Same thing happened to me the other week. Couldn't get it with pliers or anything. But it did give me an excuse to buy a new precision torx driver set.

Noticed that gap also when I opened the slot and wondered if you could get an SD card out if you accidentally dropped one in. Well, I'm glad to hear that it is possible to retrieve it.
This may be a dumb question, but would turning it upside down and shaking it not work?

Nope. for my case, it just had enough frictional force to let it stuck there...

THanks for the heads up! when the SD card update actually comes, it will be useful

I am now sitting in the sofa with a flashlight between my teeth, my wifi xoom between my knees and two bits of wire with the ends bent as hooks (well, I just took a break from "surgery" to write this...)
I, too, managed to slide/drop the micro SD into the wrong slot, and it is stuck so far in that what appears as two small connection tabs are preventing it from being lifted up again.
I guess I just have to continue my McGyver'ish operation, but as I suspect I won't succeed I would appreciate any tips.

Thanks for the heads up, OP. I just got my xoom and I'll make sure to pay attention when I put my card in.

most people have had to take the back cover off of the xoom in order to get their cards back. It's not difficult if you have the right screwdriver.

opsy this happened to me right after I rooted my xoom. I freaked out and searched the net for instructions for dismantling and tools. I beleived that I actually bent a dummy sim wire up in the process.

did that myself but managed to get it wedged between the "upper deck" and the mainboard.... never felt the click of it like you normally do.. i paniced but there was enough sticking out to use my wifes fingernail to pull it out lol.

I no longer feel like an idiot. I too belong to this fraternity. I made a little tool with a hook on the end by cutting up an old credit card and fishing out the SD card.

I don't know. But, if you're willing to just commit to the N4, you might be able to take the back off and stick the card in the slot permanently. Maybe.

Good thought, but it doesn't look like it: the outside cover plate is larger on the Apple tray and there's more distance between the outside cover plate and the edge of the SIM card than on the N4 tray.

Oh nevermind then, I haven't receive my nexus 4 yet and the pictures of the Google's tray I found were very unclear.

You could try calling LG, they have replacement parts and I'm sure this one isn't the most common replacement so they should have some in stock. 800-243-0000 You could try calling them to see if they have them available.

But seriously, this is probably something you need to contact LG or Google (not sure who is in control of hardware support) directly, because of the fact that they put the IMEI number for the phone on the tray itself. I doubt this is high demand item at this point in time, so you most likely won't have luck finding one from a third party, and even if you did I'd imagine it'd be very high in price.

So last night I took my sim out to test tmobile sim I have. Then a friend came over and while I was outside talking it vanished somehow.
So now i cant find my sim or the tray. I'm going to order one, like $8. But crap. Can't believe I lost it. I searched this living room, flipped the couch over.

Edit: So tonight I get the change jar and pour it out on the table. There pops out my extra sim and the tray. Last night I had slid the card in without the tray and it worked just fine. I wasn't without a phone without the tray. Sure was nice to find it. I knew it was in that damn house.

[GUIDE] How to use Dual SIM + Micro SD Card on Oneplus X at the same time

[Disclaimer: I'm not responsible for a broken SD Card or SIM card or both and this task surely needs patient hands.]
I have been a great lover of Oneplus X. I love its performance (on ashwin and MA's CM13) and its beauty has always amazed me but the only drawback which I've always felt is the inability to use sd card and dual sims together. Today I tried pretty hard to find out a hack by making SIM card as thin as possible and trimming the extra bump on sd card and guess what ? It works
I am not well versed with XDA jargon, so please bear with me
Be as careful as you can especially when u r removing the SIM card terminals layer:
1. Cut the SIM card along the portion separating the card body and metal terminals with a paper knife as if you are trying to peel off the metal contacts part from the card body. (Be extremely careful here so that you don't damage the chip terminals)
You'll be left with this:

2. Take the bottom part of the card as in the following picture, and slightly rub the encapsulation with a sand paper such that it doesn't rub the rest of the SIM card surface. The only objective of this part is to make it thin as there's a bump which would obstruct the SIM card insertion.
It should end up like this:
3. Now take your SD Card and you can observe a minor bump at the end of the sd card which can be trimmed by using a sand paper and this should result in an sd card which is on the left side of the pic compared to a non-trimmed one on the right side.
Now place the SIM card in the slot this way:
Voila..!!!
And the result..?

the SIM card i managed to trim is as thin as a good quality paper...and the sd card bump is also trimmed, so u r practically inserting a normal sd card...what i have observed is, over two days of experience, it's pretty easy to remove and place again and again...never had an issue ejecting, i tried some 8 to 9 times in these two days...

I done it today and succeed...
not too hard but very risky...
enjoying dual sim with memory card..

Hello, great work. Something i wondered about alot but didnt want to try out.
How is the PHONE handling this extra? Heating up? what side effect do the phone get, im surely secure that the phone was not meant to handle both sim cards and sd card at the same time, or was it? Or did they just made a smart solution for 3 things?
I want to do this but SD card risk is no problem i am more worried about the damage on the phone itself.

I have been using this for a week and what I've understood is our OPX is meant to handle both sim cards and sd cards simultaneously juz as any other mobile but the designing department went with a form factor tweak juz to keep the mobile as thin as possible...I am sure had they provided different slots for sd card and sim cards, they could have faced difficulty at thickness... but that said, it doesn't take away it's ability to handle both...
And coming to my observation, the read and write speeds on sd card are same, the signal strength of sim cards are same and heating is not at all in existence... I use @ashwin007 and @MasterAwesome's CM 13...

OK to use cut-down SIM card?

I was just glancing at the owner's manual for the Axon 7 that I'm about to buy for my son and noticed a warning that to "avoid damage to the phone" not to use a nanoSIM that's been cut down. Well, I've done this twice already for other phones when I migrated from a micro to a nano and not had any problems (I did make sure to sand the edges a bit, etc.).
Is there any reason to heed this warning, or some reason (such as overall thickness) why I can't just use my cutter for this one as well?

I have tried more cut sim without any issue. I think it is so dangerous as in case of other phones.

Works for me. I just go to a used phone/repair shop and have them do it with a punch tool.
They may charge a few bucks or just do it for free. Easier than dealing with an Exacto knife and SIM card template from the Interweb.

I just used my kitchen scissors. I put a nano sim on top of the micro SIM and cut around it. Used nail file to thin it down as i wanted to use the dual sim and sd card. I have dropped the phone a few times and no problem.... Both sims are fine.

The sim I'm using is a cut down and have not had any issues. The sim was originally a full, then cut to micro, then to nano.

Raise your hand, who here is running dual sim + micro sd?
That takes a bit more than just cutting around the edges

I'm running dual sim and micro sd. And all i done was cut around the edge of a nano sim and filed it down with nail file to the metal pretty much. No problems at all even after dropping the phone a few times. Sims or microsd haven't moved

Nothing at all like that. I just put the nano sim on top of the micro sim and cut around with sharp scissors. Filed it till it fit with the micro sd card flush with the holder. Metal showed on the sim. Once flush. Just pushed it in... And worked straight away. I've not taken it out since. I'm not sure if i should try just incase.... When i get home I'll have a look

I am also using a sim card cut from micro to nano size. This was my first time trying this and I used a printed out template. They are easy to find.
Does anybody know if using a cut sim card is inferior to a retailer provided sim card? Does it effect reception or anything like that?

I was going to do this another time, but the posts above gave enough encouragement to try it now.
I didn't do any filing, I used a mini torch to heat up the plastic enough to separate the sim from the plastic.
Originally tried with an old microsim I separated. The actual chip portion was too thick, tray would not close.
The freedom pop sim was the closest nano sim I had on my desk which I could afford to sacrifice
Once inserted all the way, the fit relatively snug. Some have put a drop of glue to keep the sim+sd together. I just worked it by hand to keep proper alignment as the tray was inserted. Too bad sprint lte == fail for data.
Swapping sims is a pain to begin with, swapping 2 sims+sd is a bigger pain.

That's not a bad idea... I separated it from the plastic and then used double sided tape. Your idea is interesting cuz you can keep the two pieces separate & the bezels around the chip guarantee a that it fits in the slot. Helps keep the perfect position & keeps it elevated.

Holy carp. They make punch tools. Like, it took a cellphone repair shop 2 seconds to do mine for free

I tried the burn sim and stick on micro sd card mod a couple of weeks ago and failed as it was just too thick.
Luckily i did not break the sim tray, but did break my SD card as it cracked. =(
So I bought a few sim card extension from China Taobao.
Here is the link to it. It cost about 2 or 3 dollars.

With it, there is no need to burn SIM card or super glue, just the sim card extension and a normal thin double sided tape.
The sim card extension is paper thin and the SIM tray will go in as normal, no additional pressure than usual required.
The sim holder protruding out is thin enough to fit on a soft case. but I doubt it will fit in a hard case unless you cut a hole in it.
Do ignore the Chinese wordings on the phone as my mum does not read much English.

I got a silicon casing, is thin enough to make only a little bump at the back, but everything fit as usual
