Chrome always crashes on CM10 - Thinkpad Tablet General

Thanks to krook1, the Cm10 is awesome, just one thing: Chrome didn't work normally, the same thing happened on CM9, it always crashes, sometime it was fine to open 1 or 2 pages, but if you keep opening new pages, it would crash.
Do you guys have the same problem?

My chrome doesn't crash but rather is gets the bug where a page isn't rendered and leaves a white screen. From what I have seen, it is a known issue with Nvidia.

That is also my problem, it seems very common, wait for fixing. Thank you mandrsn1.

This happens on stock ICS with the TPT. I think it is because Chrome requires ICS to run, but Lenovo still stuck with the old Honeycomb kernel for the ICS update. I would love a fix. The white screen issue makes Chrome totally unusable. Honestly that is my only gripe with the TPT.

I'm having the same problem. Any fix yet. I've searched but couldn't find anything.

[Q] browser keeps opening a new tab

anyone have a problem when clicking links it'll open a new tab instead of switching the current window to the new page? I don't know what the deal is.
Running 3.1 with 0209 dock version.
Sites that consistently do it on:
Facebook, dailytech, fudzilla, sometimes amazon and newegg.
edit: Well actually, it's intermittent. Dailytech works properly now. This problem happens quite frequently though.
I haven't completely narrowed it down, but it seems to happen faster when you use quick commands like ctrl t and ctrl w to open and close tabs. It also happened without the keyboard once.
I have the same problem, Pretty annoying . Not sure how to fix it . Anyone ?
In web browser -
Menu -> Settings -> Advanced - Check "Open in background"
Sometimes this appears to get forgotten, unchecking and re-checking seems to resolve.

that really doesn't do anything. hope Asus is aware.
I'm seeing this as well. It's pretty annoying, and I just got the dock this week. Closing out all the tabs so that the browser quits and then restarting the browser seems to clear it up temporarily.
I agree that this seems to happen faster when you use the keyboard shortcuts. Does anyone think this might have happened due to the last dock firmware update? I didn't immediately upgrade to the latest firmware version and I don't recall this happening when I first started playing with the dock.
try toggling the mode from tablet to desktop.

Thanks! It doesn't permanently keep it from happening (the problem still comes back randomly), but it's an easier temporary fix than closing all the tabs. Makes me wonder why it works, though...
same problem here I flashed so many rom trying to get this resolved, but it's just a matter of time before the problem come back. I believe this only happen with 3.1 though. I've never have any problem with 3.0 (the problem is there even in official 3.1).
Anyone know how to report to asus ? I'm going back to 3.0 for the moment
I've been having the exact same problem, glad it's not just me. It's quite frustrating that there are at least 3 major issues with the browser (this, the keyboard lag and the terrible JavaScript performce) but getting support for these issues from Asus or Google seems to be next to impossible. Definitely feels like I bought a beta product at this point.
Anyway, I found that I can temporarily fix it by force closing the browser in the applications menu in device settings. Not really ideal though.

Browser Crashes

I have experienced some browser crashes in the past week, on multiple sites, and especially when visiting IGN.com. Its sort of a flash heavy site, but it still happens when I have Flash turned off.
Anyone else having problems with browser crashes? It has happened with both the stock Android Browser as well as Dolphin HD Browser.
yeah lot's of random crashing with default browser, I have installed every browser available but none offer the same as desktop experience. Browsing is (for me) the most disappointing thing about the tablet.
Happens to me quite often. Well happened. If you can live without JavaScript turn it off. Just enable it on sites that you really need. For me the sudden browser closures (not FCs) happend mainly on sites with JavaScripts.
Yes lots of crashes for me as well. I tend to have a lot of tabs open, and it is particularly annoying that there seems to be no way to automatically open up the same set of tabs (anyone know if there is a way to do this)...
same here, getting very tired of having to turn flash and java off to make browswer stable, hell if wanted this i would have bought a ipad2!
Much of the content on good sites is java & flash, for me its only been really bad the last 7 days. Come on android/ Asus, sort it please!

Just did that and both the stock browser and Dolphin HD work MUCH faster and no more FCs. Question--is the Java engine part of android, or is it in the browser? If it is in android, then I guess there is no point in trying other browsers.

holy, I've experience about 10 force closes. My browser doesn't even show the pop up force close notification, it just closes and returns me to my launcher -.-
same here ,really annoying..my nook colors stock browser on cm7 was alot better as well as flash support on it...hopefully soon it ll be adressed...
i just experienced this during the weekend. anyone contact ASUS about this?
this is surely a software issue which can easily be fixed (i hope)
Wow - glad I am not the only one. I really hope this issue gets fixed, its annoying to say the least!
+1
Me too, hope they sort it soon.
I found that clearing my cache through the manage app settings helps me to load a page after a crash. It usually happens if I have over 25 MB worth of cache from previous browsing cessions.
I must be lucky... I've had no problems with my browser at all, I'm very pleased with it.
I Use Dolphin HD. Only Time my Browser Crashes is when My girl uses it and she gets on Tumblr. Weird..
Edit: Oh and it only happens after a While of use on that web Site.
Guys, I just turned off the fast scrolling in the advanced menu and it's stopped crashing. Can anyone else test?
so far so good. Crossing my fingers.

This is a google issue. Guys over at the xoom forum are having the same issue.
I find that rebooting the tf every other day helps cut down crashing and app fc's

keyboard lag in browser fixed in touchwiz - but the fix is not in the browser itself

So anyone that has gone from stock honeycomb to touchwiz knows that the keyboard lag in the browser is fixed. Also text boxes highlighting in blue when you type in them is gone too (the two were believed to be related).
I had assumed that Samsung modified the browser.apk somehow to fix the issue. It turns out that that is not the case. How do I know? Because the lag and blue box are also gone on the dolphin HD and dolphin pad browsers when installed on a touchwiz ROM. The lag and blue box are present in dolphin browsers in stock honeycomb roms, but not in touchwiz roms.
So this tells me that the core issue is a framework or something that the browser accesses. Maybe the webkit engine itself, I don't know. Now the question is, can we extract that fix and apply it to non-touchwiz roms? If it is a Google code fix that samsing implemented, then maybe. If Samsung rewrote their own webkit and tied it into touchwiz, then probably not.
Any developers interested in finding out where the fix is, and try to apply it to non-touchwiz roms? I am going to poke around but I am probably under qualified for this.
cursor problem still
I have a question about this fix, which might be related to what your trying to find out.
I realized the keyboard input lag is fixed, but not the weird cursor movement when you try to edit something you've already typed. It still lags and still doesn't follow touches very well. Most noticable wwhen trying to go back to a mistyped word on this xda post.
I'd guess this is bizarre cursor input is related too?

Honeycomb being closed source is the greatest source of frustration as a tinkerer and probably one of the many reasons why Android tablets still fail to sell in any appreciable numbers.

I'm not sure I agree with this entirely. If we were trying to fix it ourselves, then I agree with this statement. However it's already fixed in Touchwiz. Touchwiz has already been ported to other tablets like the Acer Iconia, so it's hackable. In theory, as long as the fix is not part of the Touchwiz framework, but rather in the google framework, we should be able to extract the relevant files and shove them into stock honeycomb. it may be ugly and it may require source to optimize it, but i think we can do something with it.
I don't often have to type in a text box while in the browser on the GT but when I do I feel like breaking this thing in fnin half...
The swype keyboard inserts spaces in spots that I don't really need it to and trying to backspace is a nightmare.
I am sure there is a setting somewhere in swype to change this but I may be updating the tab today at the NYC event so I will worry about it afterwords. I may try thumb keyboard instead of swype also.
Typing lag is due to the "Instant" feature in Google. It's a javascript issue.

No it's not. This happens on form boxes everywhere like here at XDA. it's fixed in touchwiz.
Hi,
Can anyone post you s/w version screen after the TW update please ? I have a 3G enabled European 10.1 Tab with TW and still seem to suffer from the keyboard lag issue in the browser. Also the blue highlight is still there. Possibly I still run an older version of TW.

I don't have my tablet with me, but go to the development section and look at the ROMs that DocRambone has posted. It's fixed in those.

Screen grays out when screen is touched

For some reason my screen will dim whenever i try to go to links in gmail or other things. Any idea what could be causing this? The xoom is not rooted and completely stock 3.2. kind of an odd issue and a big annoyance.
no solution but saw this happen today in a link in a mail client. it was not gmail.
also, i use honeycomb file manager HD (paid version). clicking on videos mounted at /external1 does the same thing. the videos play, they just dont play from within that file manager. this just started happening. Ive had honeycomb file manager HD for a couple months now (since it was launched) and was able to play the videos from within the app (it would pop up which video player to choose from...). now it doesnt.
i just figured it was a random glitch but perhaps not.
looks like the 3.2 bug... the screen dims when the application picker dialogue box is called, meaning it could happen anytime a link, file, pic, etc could be opened with more than one app on your device... try rotating your screen and it should appear... should make the problem go away (at least until next reboot).
Think doing a factory reset would help?
This is a well known and documented bug with Android 3.2.
Simply rotate your screen, and it will show you a list of applications to choose from.

Nope, as solarnz said this is android 3.2 bug... won't happen everytime, but everytime it happens changing your screen orientation fixes it... mainly a minor annoyance.
appreciate the heads up. i had not known about the bug.. was under a rock i suppose.
ive not seen this issue again and i just tried just now and all is well. next time however, ill be ready ..
thank you again to the OP for posting and for the followups. "thanks" are in order here...

Anyone getting the bug where all icons disappear?

Has anyone been getting the bug where all the icons and display on the screen disappears? I've been getting it since the last two updates. Only remedy is a reboot for me.
on the default launcher correct? try resetting the launcher data
do you mean completely disappear or where the proper icon gets replaced with the green droid? Since the last couple of updates I get the latter a lot. A reboot brings them back for a while but they randomly revert back a few days later. Its only a random few and not all icons and it doesn't matter if they are in a folder or on their own.

Yes happens to me as well with Nova Launcher. Reboot is only option.

The only thing that I see is that after a reboot, the icons appear for a bit and then they disappear for a minute or so while the OS finishes booting up. Once, Android is fully loaded they come back and are fine. I observed this with Revolver after iCS update and now the same on Gummy. I haven't seen any other weird icon issues. Revolver is using the stock launcher and Gummy uses Apex.
Yup I get it often as well, another symptom of Asus/nVidia being incapable of correcting the OpenGL errors in the Tegra 2 libraries we're having to suffer with. Look in the system log when it happens and you'll see dozens of OpenGL memory errors etc
They've only had since February to fix it

It is weird that I haven't had any problems like this at all. At the very start of ICS I used to have some problems with icons disappearing but they always returned when I touched the screen. I kinda assumed Transformers were pretty uniform hardware wise but maybe there is more variety than I assumed.
icon disappear is happening on mine too.(since last two updates, but the last update made it worse ), hadn't have it on NOVA launcher, too bad
Same problem here, both with default launcher and Pro launcher; killing the launcher app in settings/apps solves the issue.
I also get it often. That and SOD, I want to sell this thing pretty bad but I'm still not annoyed enough. I'm hoping a fix is coming soon.
