[Q] Best rom - GT540 Optimus General

Hey there! Its me again... I'm wondering if I hace to change rom or not, but will ask either way...
What's the best, or what are the best rom 4 the phone that can actually fit in 150Mb of System partition?
I'm actually using build 3 from tejas12, as it seems to be the bugless around, but been seeing lots of roms around and I just would like to know which rom, o another rom to test...
150 System partition gives me 220+ data partition... Sadly, I use some apps that can be name as memory eater, most of them are at SD but even that way, I still need the space, actually I just hace 25Mb free, just close to the notification of the lack of memory =/
Any help?

If you need more space for apps, create sd-ext and use Link2SD, you'll have more free space on your phone's memory.

Its not the same than just move then to SD ?

Not 100% the same but similar

It is not same, for link2sd you need ext partition. Diference is that with link2sd you can move everything (lib, dex, app) what is not best to do.
About your question... just download any rom you like, recovery version, and use 7zip to shrink it. Remove some apps that you dont need, you can remove media files that you dont need to. I do that all the time, and it work without problem.

This ROM is the best - #2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2145302

Hey, instead of making new post I decided to bump up this one.
I wanted to ask which ROM should suit me best - I use this old (but good) phone mainly for calling and as tracker for running. So for me most important thing is GPS strength (I've tried several ROMs and some find signal really fast and some take up to 10 minutes) + not freezing when playing music + sports tracker app (Endomondo/Runkeeper) is open.
So far I've tried:
1. PolishVodka's ICS and JB ROMs are almost perfect. Very rarely it freezes, but amount of free RAM is less than GB and running music + sports tracker make my phone sluggish. Anyway props to PV, I'm looking for alternatives not because his ROM is bad, but because our device is just too old for new android.
2) Zoe ROM 6.5 and 7 - honestly I just don't see where is speed in this ROM. Yes, there is more free RAM, but for me it runs slower than 4+ ROMs.
3. Miroslav's 2.3 clean ROM - liked this one because I could customize whatever I wanted and nothing preinstalled + had like 90 MB free RAM, but even after changing system language text under icons was still in Russian.
So I want GB rom (because they run better and more free memory) with strong GPS fix. Working WiFi deepsleep could be nice since I have phone connected to wifi almost all the time, but it's not priority since I leave it charging almost every night.

[Q]What rom to choose

Hey!
I'm pretty new to custom roms, and i'm not sure what is the best for me.
I want a clean rom, without tons of apps i'll never use. Just a simple, smooth, fast(as fast as it get's) Android rom.
Have look around in the dev section, but i'm not so in to custom roms yet, and a little afraid of bricking my phone!
Any suggestions?=)
Well, people seem to be torn between floyo v.20 and Elelinux v6a.
I've tested out both and they both are fully functional roms. Speed and smoothness is hard to differentiate.
I'd suggest you go for Floyo as it has LauncherPro Plus installed and a better theme.
But it's best if you try out both for a while and then decide.
Then you should try doinxh new gingerbread rom.clean rom with additional features.less crappy apps
Sent from my X8 using XDA App
my experience says that you should test all the roms that tou find interesting. It's the best way to know wich one is better for you.
Rom X could be the best for me but Y could be the best for you.
Just read all the instructions, and then prepare to try all the roms you like and choose your favorite.
I use jerpelea's+ modules.
I am using Floyo v.20 by racht its fast and smooth no bugs yet and about the unwanted app you can uninstall any app or system app by some app named app uninstaller orsomething like that
Hope I helped

I usually try to use all roms, even the beta ones
I appreciate the developer´s works, and give a try to many of them. This way I can feel which rom fits on my use

Yes, it´s a very good rom. but i find that floyo0.20 is a bit faster. Adn it has following bug: yuu can´s set location in some apps, neither througt gps nore wifi nore mobile network.
kown bug is radio.apk is not not working, in floyo it is working fine.
i use floyo, but i have reboots when i switch from 3g to 2g on some locations (not on all, where 3g is avalible. But it seems, im allone with this bug On other roms i works.
Thanks for the advice guys!=) I will test some roms out! Starting to get the hang on how custom roms work, how to install, and so on=) Think i will try out doinxh's custom first, then racht custom! As long i don't get ten tons of apps i don't need, and a rom that works smooth, then i'm satisfied^^
Btw, if you guys have more suggestions, bring it^^, Trying racht's floyo now, but having some trouble finding the custom rom in xRecovery=P tested Srom-2.3.3GingerbreadX8-V2 by stelios97&zousoum96, and found it in like 5 sec, but racht seems to be a little challenge=P

No, from HTC Hero's Elelinux Speedmachine.

You can get this much hours of uptime with rachts Floyo too... just use Fast Reboot app (once a day) clen cache periodically (2 times a week is more than enough)
Intresting enough, performance didnt dropped at all..
P.S.: dont use Task Killers
Tried froyobread, but it didn't support my language, and the EQ didn't work, so i moved on back at stock, and going to test Elelinux out next i think=) Will test out Froyobread out later, when it's near complete, and got what i want=)
I had performance issue with floyo 0.20, IGO ran very laggy.

[Q] HTC Sense roms never work properly on my HD2

Flashing them is fine but they never run properly on my phone, they always lag or freeze or restart really often. Any other roms besides sense, run perfectly such as the HyperDroid. Can anyone enlighten me on why this happens?
Well i can recommend HD2 CoreDroid HD V1.7 FROYO i have been using this ROM for a couple of months now very stable very fast great if you need your phone on a daily basis.
I have a EU device and this ROM has 1Gb internal Storage plus SD card capacity for applications and around 140mb free ram, It's not the most up to date but it's stable and all working
I run sat-nav parrot bluetooth plus many other apps all working great

Well I don't know about the freezes and restarts, but lag and Sense go hand in hand unfortunately UI is great but any GB/Sense ROM is just slow, and Froyo/Sense (like the suggested one) is speedy but outdated. If I were you I would stick to CM7, it can be themed very well to look like Sense

I do not agree! I am running RCMix3D v5.1 and marc1706's v0.1.8 Kernel and it is very very smooth! It just works. I would recommend you to try this combination.

This sounds like an sd card issue to me...
The sense roms are heavy, the runny roms use sd-ext for extra memory...
Where you using an sd-ext partition for example ext3 or ext4 ?
If you where that would be the sd card causing an issue as a result, are you formating through sdformater tool?
Try another sd card if you can and give it a spin,
Good luck!

Try a larger partition than the one mentioned in their threads. It could be some bad blocks that are preventing some components from being installed, which may cause some lags, freezes or reboots.

Did you try the larger partition size? Also, you can try MIUI if you want the quick settings to be in a separate tab, although using the built in notification toggles in CM7 is enough for me. You can add loads if you want, in Cyanogenmod settings.
I've been having the same issues. I've found a 2.2 android with 2.1 sense, can't remember name, that worked really well, but needed different apps for my emails so I've been experimenting with tosty's v7 ics and its been nice. Try searching for a sense from with the specs I wrote.

Using ErwinP's CM-9 ROM, its fast with some issues

Hello all,
Today i installed the CM-9 ROM by ErwinP on my 1 year old Wildfire.
Its good with some issues:
1. Camera doesn't work.
2. gallery has a bug. The albums were visible when we tap and hold on the screen and drag to left or right. when we lift the finger the screen goes blank.
3. menu loading is slow every time.
4. screen lock is present but you have to select slide in the lock screen settings.
For any further issues, i'll update here, as I am new to this forum.
Some facts:
The ROM after install takes 151.8 MB of internal memory.
I have custom MTD partition of 160MB and 15MB cache. I'm getting 290 of internal memory but the system initially is taking 40 MB(I don't know why.)
So, usable is 250MB internal memory.

You need to flash gapps I think, don't bother with 3.4.4 you should get an auto update to the new play one eventually.

Yeah, you'll need the entire gapps since the market also relies on some extra stuff.

that's probably the reason why you have more space on your internal memory because you forgot to flash gapps. incase you havent, flash gapps as what scratch and nejc suggested.. its also posted in op. its the latest gapps, about 52 mb in size so you will have to set your mtd partitions to default which is 250. im using the modified version which is just about 19 mb.
goodluck!
First of all thanks to all(Scratch0805,pauch_19 and nejc121) for your support in providing the information.
After getting the solution suggested by "Scratch0805". I again installed the ROM and along with the gapps at the same time. This time, I have taken the partition as 200 and 20. And after the boot, in terminal i found that system is using 186.4 MB. Still 13.6MB left.
Note: i installed the gapps with the size 51.88MB unmodified zip.
Now, everything works as it should have with camera as the exception.
One thing I want to know, what should be the CPU settings to follow for more than a day of battery life. Previously, i was using ON-DEMAND with 264-672MHz
and getting less than 22hrs of backup in CM7.

mine is 352/729 smartassv2. on minimal - regular use, mine last a day and a half..i really think it depends on phone usage.
@pauch_19 : So, it means you are not using any apps to control the cpu settings.
I also used the smartassv2 governor and i found that backup decreases as it was in on-demand.
But, the smoothness in using gets better in smartassv2. So, can you tell me which governor will be better in terms of battery life and speed or any post where its mentioned.
atm i dont have too many apps which is also i think one reason why my phone is alot smoother, responsive and gives me a very decent battery life. In performance - processor, my cpu frequency minimum is 352 and 729 max. i used this values even when i was on cm7 nightlies coz its much stable..havent tried it at 768 though cpu governor is smartass v2.

I'm using the miui rom which is basically a modified version of cm9, I use setcpu just to set an underclock profile for when the screen goes off. My settings are on demand176/576 and powersave 176/352 as I've noticed that unless i'm straining the cpu by playing angry birds or watching a video with on demand my cpu tends to stay low doing normal things like making a phone call or checking xda but with smartassv2 it seems to jump high even when it doesn't really need to.
Sent from my Wildfire using xda premium
@pauch_19 : As for your settings goes, it good for performance. And you are also getting good life out of it. Nice to know that. I also read a post earlier where members are saying CM7 is better than SplashMOD. If its true, kindly tell me If you know which CM7 nightlies version do i use and how to remove the apps(I once used CM7 # 256,I didn't like the camera UI but it was smooth though) I then, switched to SplashMOD 1.6.
@Scratch0805 : I like the CPU settings you were using. I will definitely try those when I'll install the SPlashMOD v2.0 downloaded yesterday. But, I haven't tried on 176 because i thought then I'll get delay in getting calls and also lag in the background process. If these are not the issues you are getting, then I will must use these, and I can say that I will get at least 35+hrs of backup. And how MIUI is as compared to CM9?
thanks again for the responses I'm getting.
Somewhere in themes and apps section is a thread for miui camera, its a flashable zip which will give you a much nicer camera ui than the cm7 one.
Miui is beautiful as a standalone Rom but gets even better if your prepared to put some effort in, it has the same bugs as cm9, but spend a few hours setting up workarounds and it runs like a dream, I only have 2 problems now 1 is the camera (nevermind tho, I have a digital cam anyway) 2 is if you like theming your phone miui is awesome for it, the only problem is it was designed for hdpi and gingerbread so all the top themes need modding to fit ldpi and ics.
Sent from my Wildfire using xda premium

Personally I haven't tried Splashmod so I really couldnt say CM7 is better. I only tried CM7 and Im really impressed at how Cyanogen turned it into a very nice and fast rom. Before trying erwin's CM9 I was on nightly 256 build 14 and everything is working well.
I will try that one also with the miui camera Scratch0805 suggested. If all goes well, at the end of the day I'll be using CM7.
The camera should be fine on any rom I think, splashmod is basically either cm7 or oxygen (can't remember which one its based on atm as the "dev" changes his mind more often than I change my wallpaper ) with some apps removed or substituted for another. Underneath though it will always be cm7 or oxygen.
I'm on miui v4 atm and loving it but I'd recommend till you get into the swing either cm7 nightly 256 or keep an eye on the cm7 thread and look for the unofficial builds which have been built by erwinp and cobje, they may have a few bugs though I doubt anything serious otherwise they wouldn't release it + we are still clinging on to some fairly talented people that will most likely suss out the bugs and let everyone know how to fix them in the thread.

Which Android rom to choose?

Hey guys,
today I spent all day reading about Android ROMs, but I'm going more and more confused. I'm using EU HD2 and have not enough space for application updates etc. For this reason I want to move some apps (navigation, games) on SD card. Can somebody advice me good, tiny and stable ROM? Great benefit would be ROM working in landscape mode, because I want to use my phone in my car in landscape. ROMs that I like are :
myMIUI 14 B6 [MAGLDR/CLK║Dorimanx║GB║APP2SD║CACHE2DATA║ZIPALIGN]
[MAGLDR/cLK]TyphooN CyanogenMod 7.2.0.1 v3.8.8[2.3.7][A2SD+][tytung r14]
PARANOIDANDROID HD2 v1.5b [TABLET/HYBRID][CM9][A2SD][tytung_HWA_r3.2]
[AROMA ROM] Leo King 2.3.6 ICS 4.0.4_CM9_Rc2_Bulletproof!
[ICS] [4.0.4] [STABLE] CyanogenMod 9 RC 2 [securecrt_tytung_HWA]
AndroPlus Ultimate |High Quality|Fast|Smooth|GB 2.3.3|Sense 2.1+3.0+3.5+4.0
NexusHD2-ICS-4.0.4-CM9-HWA V2.5 (Kernel: tytung_HWA_r3.2
BTW good working camera is very appreciated.
Reading is not enough, you have to try them to decide which is better.
Most of these roms are already stable, and most of them are tiny (150-200).
For the best camera, I recommend gingerbread. what do you mean by "landscape" ? all roms have rotation, don't they?
Having a EU HD2 means you probably won't be able to use a ROM without an a2sdd script, or at least moving apps to the sd card, so I propose using an a2sd script when installing any ROM.

With an EU HD2 I would stay away from sense roms because of size. Tytung's roms have always been really good for me but I'm with everyone else, try some and see what suits your taste. I'm using huhjun's [ICS-ROM] iCyanogen 1.2 [Fast-Stable-Bravia-Xloud][tytung_HWA_r3.4] and love it.

Most roms are already stable, and most of them are tiny (150-200)
but it all depends on what you want ie sense or no sense if you want a lite rom take the rom you like and delete apps from it to make it lite "ie all the aps you can get from market " then you can move them to sd card tbh i use a lite rom but the lowest ive managed to get it to is 150mb .(on phone)
why not download a rom and experiment with it theres a lot you can delete from them /apps to language boot loader gifs ringtones
download and install 7zip its a lot easy'r to delete things you can extract the rom from the zip to see what size it will come out at
I can say for myself only. By my opinion, AOKP has best combination of settings and tweaks which really make life easier. Battery life and speed of this rom are very very good. But unfortunately this rom was not very stable for me, I experienced hot reboots regularly.
So I switched back to NexusHD2. It has comparable battery life and speed, but less tweaking possibilities. Stability of this rom has always been out of question for me. It is solid rock.
TyphooN CyanogenMod ROM was my first rom on HD2 and I have only positive impressions of it. Switched to ICS just because this phone let me do that. Prefer newer versions when possible.
Hyperdroid GBX is a 50 - 60mb file and takes just 92mb of system. If your priority is to save memory that would be the best option.

I think you should try the paranoid rom. Shoukd
After install you have around the 230 mb free, and it was not neccesary for me to use an a2sd script, and god, the rom is soooo stable

I keep my contacts and calender backed up through my google account. That way you can access them from any computer or your phone.

[Q] Which Android to Install - An Advice Required Please

I will like to remove the Wndows professional version from my HTC HD2 Leo Smartpone. But after reading several Androind versions I feel a little bit confusig which one could be the best for me. Certainly the Rafdroing Android version looks the best, but there are some risks around it and I do not see too may comments about users.
The Android Ice Cream or Jelly looks also interesting and looks easy and theres are other Androing version too easy to install.
Why I am looking to change my OS from my HTC HD2 Leo ? Because I think that the Androind version it is the most wit tons of free applicaitons, thems etc and as stable. The second point it is that I would like to increase at least a little bit the speed of my Smartphone
1.2 Ghz or 1.$Ghz could be the best thing that could happen to me. The last point is that the old windows version was so limited with flash and video, so I decided to remove it.
Certainly that I would like first to get a good backup of my present operating system in case of failure to return to my old version.
soI need a suggestion to a good backup to move everything to my SD or to move everything to my Desktop via USB interface.
It will be plus if I can install a dual boot in my HTC to try the new Windows 7 together with Androind, but I m most decided to run the Android version. Please advice me which Android could provide me a better performance, secure, reliable and increase the speed. the Rafdroid (vhichv version) or the Ice Cread Android or any other version. Please provide the link to proceed to Install> Thank you fellows for your time and consideraionts:fingers-crossed:
First, I don't remember doing any back up from my windows mobile. Simply because I had nothing to backup, except my contacts, I used Google to back them up, (I didn't have much apps/games, and didn't care for messages). So I don't know about backing up, wait for advice from someone else.
Then I would suggest you keep away from sense, that includes all versions of Rafdroid. This is because sense takes a lot of ram, and you won't (or at least I didn't) feel that your device is fast, it's going to be rather slow and sluggish. I would only recommend sense if you like your device to be eye candy, and you don't do much on your device except usual calling, texting and rare gaming/browsing. But again, this is just a suggestion, you can try it out and see if it works or not. (I would have recommended Sense 4, since it's fast AND beautiful, but it's not stable atm).
Now if you're a heavy user, who likes to do lots of stuff and play heavy games and do lots of web browsing, I'd suggest ICS or Jellybean, this is because they both offer full HWA (Hardware Acceleration). (Click here for a comparison I did between ICS and Jellybean that should help you decided which one).
That comparison also includes Gingerbread, so I don't think I need to explain it here.
Yes, you can dualboot Windows Phone and Android. Refer to this great guide by @mengfei which should help you dual boot. Keep in mind that Windows Phone MUST reside in the NAND, so android will be in either sdcard, or sdcard/ext partition. Don't forget to hit his thanks button if you found the guide helpful. You should be able to find all the links there.
Good luck with your journey.
Referring to:
--> Backup.
As far as i can remember times with WM, i always used to plug it in PC and it always synchronised by itself, maybe i had CD/DVD with drivers, i cant remember. But as Marvlesz said, i don't think that You'd need nothing more than moving contacts on SIM card, as You change OS and move to new world ( better one imo ) so; simple and very fast way.
--> ROM.
Again, as Marvlesz said , sense ROMs eats just too much of our priceless ram of EU ver. Users
[*]
So, If you want my opinion, i can tell from my experience, that there are some of my suggestions:
1) tytung's 4.2.2 /720p\ rom that just works!!
I use it nao, and i must tell that i ain't found any bigger bug than random ForceClose of an app but thats normal, 4.2.2 makes HD2 wet and i am thankful that it still works
And oh, it doesnt have any bigger boosts like TabletUI ( Which i love ) or tons of candyeye themes, but its still cool with its simplicity
2) Its ParanoidAndroid's.
It has more tweaks and features, as... TABLET UI o0o0o0o0o
But there are still a few things to fix as author said, but(!) last update was from ending of June, so i bet He will update his ROM soon, with freshly baked sweets for us
Sorry but i cannot tell from experience this time, i did not try this ROM on my device, although i had PACman (combination of ParanoidAndroid and CyanogenMod code) with tablet UI etc etc, and it was nice, kept it for a long time until author stopped updating it
I think that will solve your hesitation
Keep rooting and give me feedback, Have a nice week y'all

Common misconception .. Both EU & Tmous HD2 have the same amount of RAM of 512MB (or 576MB if you may), it's the ROM that's bigger on the Tmous.

Yep, and just adding to that you'll always get somewhere around 411 MB usable RAM on Android (sometimes I've seen it at 403 as well).
Damn i shouldnt write what i am not sure about
