So, I've searched the forums, and I haven't seen any posts about my specific problem.
Before I begin, I will confess that I am a flashaholic (there, I said it!!!) and I suspect that the booting problems that I encounter has something to do with the number of times that I have flashed new roms, kernels, and scripts. (I think that scripts are the main culprit)
Now, here is my issue. While using my phone regularly, the phone would begin to delay, and then perform a soft boot. This has happened while I have been playing games, installing apps, browsing the Internet (using Firefox/Dolphin Browser), and most recently, simply setting up my phone after a FRESH INSTALL of my main gb rom listed below. Sometimes, it DOES boot properly, but usually not. Rarely, it does seem full reboots instead of soft reboots.
Another twist to my problem is the fact that usually my phone would get stuck in a boot loop, replaying the booting animation until I do a battery pull, or if I do still hard restart. Usually, after I restart, the phone gets stuck on the white "HTC EVO 4G" splash screen. I have even left it overnight, and it was still on the splash screen when I awoke. I can still boot into recovery and flash a new rom, losing my data that was not backed up. (Just a side note, I am getting tired of starting Tip-Off from the beginning, since my progress doesn't backup in TB)
Thirdly, I have tried re flashing different roms, like SOS+, and I have had the exact same result. This definitely is NOT a problem with the rom! MikG is a great rom, and it was the first rom that I tested when I first rooted my phone. My phone has been rooted since February, and I only begun to experience this issue for the past 3 weeks.
Lastly, I have noticed another bug with my phone while using MikG. I would turn my screen on, and all of my 7 screens would be blank, my apps loaded to the SD would be missing, and I am unable to reinstall any of them, Superuser would stop working, Google Apps would stop working, my phone would be disconnected from my linked email accounts, and I wouldn't be able to reconnect to any of them due to my Gapps being broken. I tried flashing my GB apps, and when I rebooted, I was greeted with a "process.android.acore has failed" or something.
The only reason that I haven't posted this question in themikmik.com is because I know that my problem isn't exclusively a problem with the rom, but with my phone.
I know that big have said a lot, but please help, for this is MORE than annoying.
EDIT: I forgot some details. I am using Smelkus 4.3 recovery (and yes, I triple wipe everything) and I have tried using this rom with the stock kernel, and more commonly with the Anthrax kernel. I tried overclocked, and I tried running at regular speed (998MHz). I tried flashing using TWRP 1.1 (not the touch screen version).
P.S.: When I think about it, I didn't begin to see these random problems until I tried using TWRP for the first time. I got stuck of the splash screen upon my first use, and my reboot problems started from scratch that time.
P.S.S.: Hooray for my first post! Took me two weeks for find something "worthy" of a new post...

What size is your sd card.
Is it partitioned? And to what? ext-3? 4?
Perhaps a sd-ext repair in recovery is in order to fix part of your issue.
My sd is 32gb, and not partitioned. I have 12gb worth of data, and I have honestly procrastinated transferring the files to a computer to partition it. However, my 8gb card that came with the phone wasn't partitioned, and I never had that problem.
Then again, you might be right, since my card is relatively new. But would the card really affect how my phone handles apps, even when no apps are installed to it?

32 GB sdcards have caused problems for some on our EVOs. You may want to try transferring everything to a 16 GB sdcard.
You may also try reflashing your recovery.

Hmmm...true, if no apps are on sd card....however, its easy to partition so perhaps try it.
Another thing that comes to mind is, battery. Maybe your soft reboots are due to battery contacts dirty/old/not contacting and for a split second, your battery disconnects, then reconnects, making the phone think the battery was pulled and reinserted? Just throwing some ideas out there since you said you wipe properly and it acts the same on different roms.
You said you were using smelkus---which is an excellent recovery ( I use that also), so I dont think your recovery isn't doing its thing.
I'll try partitioning it and I'll monitor what happens. Unfortunately, since I cannot exactly replicate any of the occurrences, it will truly be hard to tell if the problem is fixed.

I've heard that also but personally, I have not had issues with my 32GB class 10 card....(well, not totally true because on Decks Reloaded, after a reboot, I "lose" my apps and widgets) ...but I have a workaround for that. Will have to go to a 16GB class 6 if I get tired of that issue.:silly:

That's a thought. I really don't want to buy yet another sd card, so I will try a fix before I do that. Thanks for the suggestion, though.
Also, it is common for me to have the phone freeze and reboot while using ANY ICS rom, especially when using something that requires gps, like Google maps, Go Weather EX, or of course, GPS navigation. It is just me?

Dont think that's common...let me ask you, have you tried a different governor such as interactivex or smartass with deadline as a scheduler?
Are you undervolted at all? My phone hates to be undervolted by very much, but that's my phone, yours may react differently.
I usually run the ondemand governor, max 1.037GHz - min 128MHz with the Anthrax kernel. Is under clicking the same as undervolting? And if not, how would I do that?
Also, I have tried interactiveX governor, and not smartass.

Underclocking and undervolting are not the same.
Looking at your 1.037 overclock, perhaps your phone cannot handle that. You stated you have problems with the standard 998 max?
When I ran Anthrax with MikG, I had no issues with it and then again, knew nothing about undervolting until I went to ca1ne's underworld kernel which is undervolted in and of itself.
I wouldn't start messing with voltages until your other issues are resolved as I dont think with Anthrax, it's undervolted to begin with.
Yes, I did have problems even on the stock kernel from MikG. I reflashed, and I was loading my widgets, placing my apps, and it got stuck rebooting when I tried to replace the original talk.apk with the ICS version from the SOS+ rom, which I ALWAYS do (so I doubt that my actions are the true cause of the problem).
Undervolting does sound like a good suggestion. I will read up about it extensively before I attempt to do anything. (I did before I tried rooting and OC'ing because I don't have the money to replace my phone, which no longer has a warranty.

I see.
I guess my suggestion would be....
Reflash smelkus.
Save anything you need to save on phone/sd card.
Partition sd card to ext -3, 1028 partition size, 0 swap (partitioning sd card will format your card, so save stuff)
Wipe all except sd card and reflash preferred rom of your choice.
In other words...start over. Gotcha. I'll try it in a few and get back to you.

So, I partitioned, and I am now staring at the progress bar as my 12GB of info transfers from my computer to my phone. This is why it took me so long to partition, because I did not do it while the card was empty. Anyway...back to waiting....
Also, I am trying ca1ne's v0.8 underworld kernel. I tried it before, and I found it to be a little choppy. I'll see what happens now. Who knows, I just might keep it. But, I have gotten used to the way my phone works with the anthrax rom, and I think that my phone got used to that too

Now you can take advantage of roms that utilize DarkTremors a2sd which will symbolicly link apps to the sd-ext you created thereby freeing up internal memory big time.! Not to be confused with the apps2sd that move part of the app to sd card....no need for that anymore.!
i.e...if you are using DarkTremors a2sd, do not move apps to sd card...follow? DT will do it automatically for you.

Hello, I have had my evo for about a month and over the last week or two my phone constantly reboots and crashes. It sometimes gets stuck in boot loops and i haveto yank the battery. it seems to happen most frequently during the browser or market apps. I cannot figure why it is doing this!!!!
my phone is rooted and this has been happening on multiple ROMS including CM6, AVA froyo, baked snack, and fresh EVO.
I have wiped:
cashe
DATA
full factory reset
Dalvik Cache
battery stats adn rotate settings
I have triedmultiple batteries and SDcardsi have tried an 8GB and 16GB and reformatted both
any other ideas?
Which ROM and kernel are you using? Your description sounds like an overclock or under voltage issue. Do you get the same behaviour with the stock ROM & kernel?
Right now I am Ava froyo v7 I have used cyanogenmod Ava froyo v6 as well as baked snack 1.5-7 and fresh 3.0.1 and 3.2 same with all
I have use the stock kernel and still get rebooting with stock speeds and 400mhz
I had VERY similar problems to you (rooted, no matter what ROM I would use (even rooted stock) I would get reboots). Usually after yanking the battery I'd get a good 2 or 3 minutes, and then, particularly when using the browser, I would get a reboot. Then reboots would repeat in perpetuity. I even tried unrooting and going back to complete stock, no luck.
Note there is a thread about a code to fix some problems with GPS -- this didn't fix my problem, but it might fix yours.
So just today I took my Evo back to a Sprint store, convinced them it was a problem, they tried doing the complete RUU flash, and the reboots happened again (yay!)...and they gave me a "new refurb".
So I'm currently rooting the new refurb.

Could it possibly be that I am not reapplying the stock kernel before flashing a new rom how log did it take you to get a new phone?
First of all what root method did you use and did you root 2.2 or root 2.1 then upgrade to a prerooted 2.2 rom.
And if you are not following the rom install instructions to a T and are wondering why you are getting reboots then frankly wtf do you expect.
I said that because you said you were not flashing the stock **** before flashing the rom.
Typically this is not needed unless the rom creator SPECIFICALLY states it is needed.
First of all you are using some very nonstandard Rom's. Start by completely wiping and removing any custom sdcard formatting and reformat your sdcard on your pc.
It has been said and proven many times that a bad sdard can screw with your phone and make some crazy **** happen.
Then go back to the STOCK 2.2 ODEXED, not deodex, the point is to get as close to retail as possible without losing root.
Then see what happens.

Started with 2.1 1.47 OTA update and Jane followed all instructions to the dot and I have re reformated my sdcard several times with windows for both the 8 gb and the 16 gb which both work great on my droid ( which I did reformat between moving them to a new phone) I also tried using no sdcard and no difference ill try going back to stock rom but I have always been using ava froyo and baked snack but now I'm getting problems with any romI use
I am using swype so sorry for any wrong words. Any way I was also using clockwork recovery for a while and it was apparently not wiping dalvik etc. Correctly so I thought that was why it was crashing so I switched to amon Ra recovery and its still crashing so could it have caused permanent damage that can't be fixed by just wiping everything with amon Ra
Clockwork didn't cause damage...flash stock 2.2...flash stock kernel...do a factory reset...and report back...
Good day all. I recently bought a Nook Color. I'm running CM7.0.2 along with gapps 20110613 from a 16gb SanDisk class 4 SD. When set up the apps (after enabling wifi) I got an error, due to the fact that my sucky router dropped the signal. As a result of this I was not able to download gmail, google maps, etc. My android market runs perfectly but I wanted to flash gapps so as to download gmail and the others. I went into ROM manager and updated to the latest CWM. However, no matter what I do I can't but into recovery. I tried n+power button, reboot into recovery from the power button menu, and from within ROM manager. All no go...it just booted into CM7, so I removed the SD card to boot into stock Nook 1.2 software. When I did this it brought me to the CWM recovery menu (SD card not in). Of course I could not select anything on the menu. Put back in the SD while still in the menu to try select an option but nothing. Shut it down by holding the power button and booted it back up and it went str8 into CM7. Shut down took out SD and it booted into stock Nook 1.2 software. What am I doing wrong guys? I'm trying to flash the overclock kernel and reflash gapps. THANKS
Could the reason gmail, youtube, googlemaps didn't install on setup be due to the fact that I'm not in the USA? If so I'd still like to know what the problem is so I can flash the overclock kernel.
No one has any idea? I know one option is to backup and redo everything, but I'd really like some troubleshooting ideas before.
Did you use the 1.3 image from verygreens thread? If so the old 7.0.* stables are not supported. You will need to back up and redo it either with the old image or a new CM7 version.
---
- Sent from my LG Optimus V using Tapatalk
Yea I used the 1.3 in the thread with 7.0.2. What version cm7 would I need to use with the 1.3? 7.0.3 or a nightly,? Where would I be able to find an older image to work with 7.0.2 and what version of the image should it be?
The 1.3 image won't work with any 7.0.* versions. You should upgrade to either a recent nightly or the 7.1.0 RC. You could find an older image somewhere but there isn't much of a point as you would have to redo it all anyway so why not upgrade? Plus your battery life will improve by a lot as 7.1 RC and the nightlys have deep sleep.

As I said many times to newbie who runs CM7 off uSD that do not or should not mess up with ROM Manager. In fact, there are members also confirm that if booting off uSD, ROM Manager has no effect.
Based on what you, OP, described, you had flashed the CwM into the internal memory.
Keep your fingers crossed as I do hope you didn't screw up anything else.
Anyway, using verygreen's 1.3 image along with the latest nightly-built CM7 and the latest 06132001 gapps and boot it off uSD again. You should be fine.
Before that, fix your home wireless network first.
I decided to just go with 7.1RC1 since I wanted the better battery life. Is there a way to check about the CWM on the internal and how would I go about removing it if I did? I ask for warranty purposes ofcourse since I opted for the 2 year extended one. Also to flash upgrades and such, since you don't recomend using ROM manager then how should I go about doing it (i.e. overclocking kernel)?

1. I never have any issue related to battery with any nightly build that I've ever used. I am currently having the nb153 and it is fantastic.
2. Check CwM and how to remove off the internal memory? I don't know any quick way except restoring the original ROM.
Again, for warranty purposes, strongly suggest running off uSD
3. Updating by loading/copying/dragging the updated files onto the root folder (aka "boot" partition), then TRY loading into Recovery by:
a. combination of power/N buttons if you have skill or
b. let it boot normally into CM7, wait until completely loaded, then reboot and select "recovery" option. Keep yr fingers crossed. This is an easy method but if it doesn't work then option a is the only choice.
Sorry the battery issue was as compared to the current CM7 stable not the nightly. I got everything installed so far besides the overclock kernel. So I will try your recommendation for booting into recovery not using ROM manager.
You don't flash anything when running off an sd card you just boot into recovery and then reboot. Easiest way to get the overclock kernel would be to just upgrade to the latest nightly.

All...
Looking for some guidance before I go complete wipe/reinstall.
After months of rock solid performance, I'm getting constant total freezes with CM7. I don't have a whole lot of apps, maybe 30, and don't use Beautiful Widgets (I believe I've seen that mentioned as a possible culprit.) It seemed to be somewhere around when I flashed the newest version of Gapps (0828,) but I can't confirm.
Just to try, I flashed the newest nightly of CM7 and reflashed the older (06xx) version of Gapps. Same problem. Thought it might be a bad SDcard, but removing the card still gets freezes.
Nothing consistent - sometime it'll go for hours with no problem. Sometimes it's 2 minutes after I reboot.
So I'm looking to clear and restart. Any suggestions? Should I backup and restore the apps from Titanium Backup, or is it safer just to reflash and reinstall everything fresh from the market.
Any other recommendations?
Many thanks!
Adam

How are you flashing? ROM Manager? Download the .zip to the SD card and boot into CWR? When you flash a ROM do you wipe Davlik? What version of CWR is on your device?

Yes, running of emmc.
Originally flashed a nightly (current as of, maybe, 2-3 months ago) using bootable SD card into CWM. I updated early last week using a flashed CWM but with CM7 image on a card. Also updated to the latest nightly yesterday using ROM Manager.
Current Version: 0930 (207, I believe)
Yes, wiped Davlik each time.
Thanks.

Actually, after many months of rock solid Nook performance using CM7 and Phiremod and MIUI I've experienced a lot of random freezes the past couple of weeks no matter what ROM I'm using. I wonder if my hardware is becoming unreliable. I've scrubbed and wiped every element of the device before doing new ROM installs, changed SD cards, re-downloaded ROMs. Installed CM7.03, CM7RC1, CM7 nightlies, various MIUI iterations, all to internal memory. My Nook will run anything smoothly for a few days and then start freezing no matter what I do. I do use Beautiful Widgets so I'm not running that right now, just in case. In fact at the moment I have NO widgets, shortcuts or anything else on my homescreens, just to see if that helps. Yes, I've tried fixing permissions too. A head scratcher.

Well that's not promising. Hopefully I don't have whatever syndrome you do.
I'm going to do the full wipe this afternoon and see what happens with a fresh install.
Adam
I have come to believe that my problem was NOT with whichever ROM I was using but with Beautiful Widget. Using the usual trial and error method I found that, if I did not install Beautiful Widget I didn't have a freeze problem either with MIUI 1.8.5 or CM7.1RC1. Its a shame because I like that widget but I switched to Fancy Widget (a lot less flexible but gets the job done) and I'm fine now.
For some reason certain apps just don't play well with the Nook. They will freeze it regardless whether they are running or not. Simply having them installed will cause frequent freezes from my experience. Everytime I encounter more than two freezes I will delete the last 5 or so most recently installed apps.
@stir fry alot,
Is there an app that keeps track of installs?
I had a similar freezing issue..I had to reformat my SD card and reload my apps...took care of it.
Thanks guys!
I'm running 7.1 stable that i installed from scratch on SD and kept getting freeze ups too and stumbled across this thread and wanted to say THANK YOU! I uninstalled beautiful widgets and no more freezing! Whoohoo!
Hey guys,
I recently tried flashing the Team Hacksung ICS port, Gummy Fascinate, and AOSPK and they all have the same issues for me. I understand that these are in an alpha state but none of the "Not Working" sections include the problems I am having. First, I cannot receive text messages but I can send them. Second, when exiting an app or the settings menu, the home screen takes five seconds to reset (all of the icons/dock are gone, only the wallpaper shows at first). Third, the launcher becomes incredibly slow after only a few minutes. I close out of all of the apps that are running using the new multitasking feature (holding the home button) but the phone remains sluggish until I reboot it. Then, it is lightning fast until I open any app. Fourth, scanning of my SD card seems to stop after a few seconds after booting. I have about 14 GB of music on my SD card and it only loads the first few artists. It does this every time I boot up so I can never see the entire library. Fifth, sometimes the app I am using will close and I am forced to wait for the home screen to reset, as I mentioned before. No error messages for force closing appears. Sixth (this is only a minor inconvenience but I want to understand why it happens), when I use SMS Backup + to restore my texts, the minute I leave the app or let the screen turn off, it returns to "Idle mode and I have to restart the entire process over again.
TL;DR I have a bunch of issues that other users don't seem to be having and they are not listed on the "Not Working" sections of the ROMs.
I would appreciate if anyone could help me come up with a solution to any one of these problems. I am looking forward to using ICS!
What method are you using to install ics based roms?
I flash back to stock EH03 and then follow these directions to the letter: http://exzacklyright.blogspot.com/2012/01/how-to-flash-ics-on-verizon-samsung.html
Those instructions are pretty good aside from the part in step 8 that suggests flashing the radio. It's already included in the EH03 package so it's just redundant, but those instructions are essentially the same as my procedure and I'm on build 6 without the issues you're experiencing (as are other people).
I'm curious if you have the same problems on other roms or is it just ICS? Have you ever messed around with overclocking and maybe got a bit aggressive? I know that if you're not careful and know what you're doing with the new overclocking and voltage control that are a part of glitch v14 you could certainly damage your phone. If it's just ICS roms and you've never messed with OC, I'm not really sure why you'd be running into those issues.

have you tried a different sd card?
I only have these problems on ICS. I don't flash EH03 everytime like it suggests in the instructions. My last SD card was fried by CM7 so this SD card is brand new and I'm pretty sure it's a class 10, so speed shouldn't be an issue. Could it really be the SD card that's causing these problems?

Also, I have messed around with glitch v14 and overclocking to attempt to alleviate the sluggishness and I used to use v12 and v13 with CM7 before with no issues. V14 did not help at all so I'm on the stock CM9 kernel and I have erased the voltage settings.

Not sure if it will make a difference, but I ODIN and repartitioned to stock verizon DL09.. then CWM, wipe, build two, wipe, gummyfassy...
I have run into some strange issues when I reverted to another stock verizon package other than DL09 before flashing custom roms.. so out of superstitions sake, I always default to DL09.

I use to have to do the same thing when I was on the stock sd card. Pretty sure the op did not odin back to stock anything going by his last post. I agree tho it wouldnt hurt to try stock ed05 or dl09, but dl09 should no longer be necessary.
I wasn't angry or anything, I was just wondering if the SD could be a problem. I always flash back to the stock EH03 ROM before flashing ICS or CM7 but do you think I should go all the way back to DL09?

I don't think it would harm anything to go to a more previous version. Make sure you repartition using the .pit file when flashing in ODIN if coming from MTD rom
Every time i tried all the ICSs I odined to EH03 as my starting point, then odined CWM4 fixed for CM7, then I flashed ICS Hacksung 3 first......Reboot...Reboot into recovery, Flash ICS 6 [or what ever new flavor you would like] then flash Gapps 7.1....Reboot.... Enjoy

Ok, so at what point do you personally wipe data/cache/dalvik? I flash to stock, flash CWM fixed, wipe all three, install THS build 2, reboot, wipe all three, flash ICS rom of choice, flash all three, install gapps 7.1, and reboot.

usually before you flash a full rom:
Odin EH03
LET THE PHONE BOOT
pop battery
Odin CWM4 for CM7
[three finger salute]
Wipe the three
Flash THS 3
Let Phone boot, then reboot to recovery using the power button [DO NOT 3 finger!!!!]
Wipe the three
Flash THS 6 [or any of the others, you dont need to flash all three just which ever your end game is, i recommend THS 6 not 6.1 for starters]
*No need to wipe or reboot in between these two*
Flash Gapps 7.1
Then reboot and enjoy
Ok I'll give that sequence a shot. Thanks for your help everyone!
Well I don't know what it was but my phone is working flawlessly now. Thanks again everyone!
There is a thanks button for this...
Ah yes, I forgot about that

Pretty sure your issue came from wiping the 3 after you flashed ics.
Should go like this
after flashing build 2
Wipe the 3
Flash your choice ROM
Flash gapps
Reboot

ok my evo has been messing up alot lately. it all started with the front camera like 2 weeks ago the front camera does not work at all and certain roms will not boot. i flashed roms almost every week and always superwiped and everything. i am using Amon RA 3.11 right now i am running MetrogenMod (CM7). Yesterday my phone was in a bootloop that would only boot at the splash screen and reboot over and over again. It became a "usb brick" and it wouldnt detect the sd in recovery but i was able to fix it using adb in fastboot with this guide. flashed the rom all over and now its working except for the ffc. i think some of the files in the internal memory are corrupted but i have not been able to find anything to fix it. i have flashed many roms, RUU, updated radios. i am running out of ideas. Can anyone help me?
my phone:
s-off
revolutionary
Hboot 6.16.1002
radio: 2.15.00.0808
HW: 004
by the way the roms i can run are: Radiance(sense 3.5), Energy (sense3.5) MIUI ICS, CM7.1, CM7.2 rc1, Metrogenmod, stock, 4korners,
this roms only boot up for 3 minutes and then reboot over and over every 3 minutes (yes they boot correctly but as i am trying to set it up it reboots): MIUI GB, rainy day, TN shooter rom for evo 4g
Try doing a fresh install with re formatting your sd card as well. Use Amon Ra to format sd and upgrade to ext 3.
Of course back up what you want on sd, but remember, not all data transfers from one version of android to another well. i.e. app data from gb won't function well on ICS and the opposite too.
Though ultimately, it could be a hardware failure. In which case take out to Sprint and get it replaced... That is about all you can do at that point.

well i already did that many times, i wipe everything 3 times manually, format the sd card, partitioned it, and all that but it still has that problem. since i dont have sprint (im flashed to metropcs) i will just look for another evo
