Hi All -
Can someone help me solve a problem that I am having with my K1. When my K1 sleeps for more than 30 minutes, it wont restore itself by hitting the on button. I have to hold the on button until the panel lights up and then reboots.
I experienced this when I had Honeycomb installed and the auto brightness was turned on, I have turned off the auto brightness and set the brightness to 40% (estimated) and I still have to reboot to wake the K1 up.
I'm running Lenovo Ideapad K1 w/Rooted Official AOSP 4.0.4 rev. 2 (khanning88 build)
Any suggestions?

I came here researching the same issue. Pretty annoying. You cant sleep it, if it goes too long powers down. Probably best on battery savings, but annoying when you just pick it up and have to reboot everytime in between use.

I don't have any problems with the sleep bug. I'm also running the AOSP ICS rom. You can try reinstalling your rom through CWM.

No problems here either. Get CPU Spy and check the times spent at each frequency (also see if you are going into deep sleep). Before you reflash the ROM, you might try to wipe both the cache and the dalvik cache and reboot - that may solve the issue
No problems here either. Did you flash the rom via CWM or NVFLASH? I installed it using NVFLASH and have almost no problems, id recommend flashing it that way if you haven't.
the problem is not because of the auto brightness. You have to make wifi connection stay enabled during sleep. Go to Setting - wireless - advanced and make it always stay enabled..

I'm running the latest CM7 nightly (110) and OC kernel (6/18) and recently my NC has stopped automatically sleeping after any length of time. I think it has also simply stopped sleeping altogether as pressing the power once turns the screen off just fine, but returning to it the next day the battery is completely dead and the device has turned off.
Has anyone experienced this issue yet? I've looked around a bit but was unable to find any solution to this problem.
Do you have Beautiful Widgets installed? That was preventing mine from deep sleep.
yeah, I fixed my deep sleep issues by not using live wallpapers. also I had found that turning off wifi, background data in accounts & sync and all animations can help. good luck.

Awesome! I tried some of the things you guys suggested and it's sleeping again, thanks!
I used to get great battery life on my Iconia but lately something is turning the screen on (to the lock screen) and staying on and just draining the battery. The screen does timeout when it's unlocked like it should, i have it set to 1 min i think. I'm rooted and running taboonay. i can run logcat but i don't know what to look for.
updated to taboonay 2.1b and it seems to have fixed it. i think it was an issue with it looking for a SIM card.
switched to lightspeed rom. it's doing it less often but it still happens. ideas?
This is no doubt a rom or kernal issue..
It could be a rogue app as well. I do not have any sleep or wake issues. No issues at all im running the near stock rom for us. 3.2
happen to my stock 3.2 A500 too, found some info pointing to wireless, connected wireless router, computers in network etc. Only things i can do to stop it wake up from sleep and stay on, is to disable wireless/airplane mode before sleep.
It is not big problem but really annoying.
Every time I lock it and after 3~4 hours it just won't wake up.
Edit:
Problem seems gone after I back to stock and upgrade to 3.2 with OTA.
Running stock 3.1 and have the same problem, sometimes it wakes up and other times it don't. I can try to wake up in 5 min and it may and most times not.
Have been turning off wifi and then putting to sleep and that seems to work so far.
Turning off wifi don't work for me, even when screen goes off in 5 min, it won't come back on.
I also noticed that every time wifi will lose connection after being locked.
I've set the wifi policy to "never turn off" but still not working.

I've never had any problems with auto shutdowns or losing wifi connection. I use Kikinash's stock 3.2 com gen2 rom. I've noticed many posts from people with gen1 and/or mixed custom roms having issues.

Yes. I am using lightspeed which based on gen1.
Stock 3.2, the same problem.
But, after I kill Skype and turn off rotation lock, I don't have this problem for an entire day. Today is the second day, and I need to go back home to confirm this problem disappears.
I think it is because of rotation lock. Or my kittens shut of my tablet...

if this fixes yours, I may actually have to root. The deep sleep thing is annoying.
I had 3 problems:
reboot somme minutes after screen off
loosing wifi connection
loosing System Tuner boot settings
I've switched from System Tuner Pro to Setcup and now no more problem
Maybe the problems we could meet are rather coming from some applications than from ROM or Kermel.

No luck at all. Same thing happened last night.
The problem must causing from some apps rather than ROM.

+1 on that. I haven't seen a sleep bug since 3.01 on stock.
had this problem on stock 3.1 installed custom rom working fine now
I reflashed the stock ROM and leave it with no app installed.
SHUT DOWN AGAIN!!!!!!
I don't know what to do now. Is this a hardware problem?
Different things seem to all work temporarily. I tried changing the wifi policy to always on and that works for a day. Then I'll change the position of the rotation lock and that will work for a day. Then I installed a wifi toggle gadget and turned it off each time I slept the tablet, and that worked for a day. But none of it seems like a permanent fix.
Most likely it's a hardware issue. I have my rotation locked on landscape, wifi set to sleep when the screen turns off, running rooted near-stock gen1 3.2 (before that I had the 3.0.1 and 3.1 installed OTA and rooted). Does the tablet switch off while plugged in? If not maybe there is a problem with the battery failing to supply power from time to time.

I've been getting it since using taboonay with richard trip's 3.7 kernel, before that I might have had it a couple times in 6 or 7 months.
Hi all,
I am experiencing the dreaded sleep of death on my Lenovo K1, I cant post in the android development section as I dont have 10 posts yet. I flashed the V2 CM10 via NVflasher and then updated to V6 via Clockword Recovery. I have checked that my Wifi is set to "Always on", I have not done a system restore so this is a clean device. This is now my 3rd flash of this image with the same problem(My previous JB AOSP worked fine). Does anyone have any idea what I can try next?
Thanks!!!
I'm having the same problem with my WiFi version of the K1. I have flashed krook1's build a couple of times and have tried setting the WiFi to Always on. I also have tried Better WiFi On Off and Soft Locker apps to manage the wifi and keep it out of deep sleep (both recommendations in the dev forum) but neither have helped. Every time my screen goes off, the device appears to continue functioning; I can hear notifications going off for emails or text messages. If I try to turn on the screen again using the power button, the two lights on either side of the home button will flash but the screen does not turn on. I then have to hold the power button down and boot up the device again. It doesn't matter if the screen times out or if I turn it off manually, it will always die immediately after.

Hi,
I was experiencing the same issue, the Sleep of death, and would not wake up after turning the screen off or locking the device.
After a lot of testing without positive results, I found this app from the market:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.omd.autoscreenon
It allows to have a "Wake Lock" sensor on all the time, it drains battery a little faster (I haven't noticed much of a difference) which seems to have solve the wake up problem.
I've tried this app the whole day and I haven't had any SoD so far.
Hope this helps.
Hi! Was anyone around here able to FIX deep sleep reboot problems on Koshu's otherwise amazing CM10 ROM for TPT?
From what I could gather and observe on my TPT, the reboot in deep sleep occurs when the device is approx. 30 minutes in deep sleep - actually I'd say EXACTLY after 30 minutes, but I can't back that up with any solid evidence. However I managed to wake device after 28 minutes and 31 seconds after going to deep sleep (according to CPU Spy). Another "test" strengthened my suspicion: I turned off the screen today at 19:36 and at about 20:11 a reboot occurred (device usually waits about 3-4 minutes before going to deep sleep, so the 30 minutes figure fits right in).
I'm 100% positive that the problem is connected to deep sleep, since after I installed and set up "Wake Lock" app with PARTIAL_WAKE_LOCK setting, which prevents CPU from entering deep sleep, reboots stopped. I get similar results with the "Soft Locker Free" app. (Hope this workaround might help some of you out there.)
However I'm asking if anyone has found any FIX, since Wake Lock / Soft Locker workaround increases battery drain, since CPU is not going into deep sleep anymore. Or some less battery-draining workaround - I was thinking about an app that could periodically (lets say every 25 minutes) wake CPU from deep sleep for few seconds? (I'm sorry if that's not possible or is a stupid idea, I'm quite new to the whole "Android business", haven't programmed any app and my TPT was the first device rooted / flashed and that happened just a few days ago.)

Should Koshu stumble upon this post (since I can't post to dev forums just yet), this is the information I can give you right now:
Pre-install Android: Stock ICS
Device version: ROW (without 3G)
ROM version: v.0.8.1
CWM version: 6.0.1.2
CM version: 10-20121015-UNOFFICIAL-IndigoF
Build: cm_IndigoF-userdebug 4.1.2 JZO54K eng.koshu.20121015. 172049 test-keys
My installation procedure:
- wipe data / factory reset
- wipe cache
- wipe dalvik
- wipe battery stats
- format /system
- format /sectmp
- flash ROM .zip from internal sd card
- flash 3G update from internal sd card (just to be sure that this doesn't somehow fix the deep sleep problem)
- wipe data / factory reset
- wipe dalvik
- fix permissions
I'm happy to provide any other data from my device, but I'm afraid you'd have to help me on how to get them.
I have the exact same problem. Reboots exactly 30 minutes. I have a ROW 64GB with Ericsson 3G.
Edit: I seem to have resolved the problem by setting keep Wi-Fi on during sleep to "Always".
I have exactly the same problem. I'll try the "always" option. Btw, does anyone know if there's a reason for the region setting being automatically set to Europe?
- Thanks for the suggestion, I'll try the "wifi always on" setting ASAP and post results.
- I am from Europe, so I haven't noticed this (and I unfortunately I have no clue why that happens).

This issue occurred for me frequently when I initially flashed CM10. The tablet would essentially turn off after what I observed to be 30 minutes or so, requiring the tablet to be booted up again from off.
I have not had this issue for about 1 week after I reflashed the ROM. Formatting the system in recovery seemed to do the trick. The steps I took are as follows (which you have seem to have done as well with additional steps):
Wipe cache
Wipe data (factory reset)
Wipe dalvik cache
In Advanced Options, format system
Flash ROM
Wipe cache
Wipe data
Reboot
Also I set wifi to always
Hope this helps.
Did a little bit of testing. Its not in the installation procedure, its in the wifi settings. Managed to get 36 and later 33 minutes of deep sleep with "Wifi always on" setting and all CPU locking apps disabled without any reboot. Will do another test during the night for a longer period of deep sleep, but I think you helped me get a prefect workaround (AFAIK this wifi setting should not significantly increase battery drain) and I might say that a fix is not even needed now (at least for me). Thanks again to everyone.

Glad it helped. WIFI should always be set to on anyway so you get notifications. Not sure why the default is off.
To be honest I didn't even know about this setting - never tinkered with wifi settings before and I would have never even dreamed about this being the issue causing deep sleep reboots.
And I can further confirm that this indeed was the cause of reboots, since I got sweet 3 hours 11 minutes of deep sleep since I last turned off the screen about 3 hours and 15 minutes ago with only 3% of battery drained, which is almost a miracle compared to nearly 15% with cpu locks and about 25% with reboots for the same period of time.
Glad to hear you got the issue resolved

Thanks for posting this :good:, I was stuck with this issue for a while.
stupid question probably, but where to are the settings for wifi always on?
Sent from my ThinkPadTablet using xda app-developers app
Go to Settings, then Wifi. There you can see three dots in a column (usually symbol for "more settings" in apps). Click on it and a menu will appear, where you can see the "Advanced" option. The rest is really easy.
