Hi Guys,
Just joined so this is my fist post, just watched the noob video before joining so please be gentle, my post maybe repeated, so here goes.....
So I followed this path in getting my Samsung Galaxy S i9000 on Jelly Been:-
1. Updated to the latest firmware XXJW4
2. Installed the custom rom from the following link [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1820578]
First off, hats off to the developer, this is a very good rom, it's fast, responsive and very easy to use. The rom is built with the function to update it with OTA which is a huge plus. The developers last update of the rom [v1.4.0] is even better, however in the latest update he removed the trebuchet launcher .
The reason why I prefer trebuchet launcher is because unlike the touchwiz launcher when you reboot the phone, apps that are stored on the SD Card, their icon do not revert to the andriod icon (something that keeps happening when I have touchwiz launcher as my main launcher). Also apps that are on the home screen, that are stored on the SD card, appear on home screen after a reboot if you use the trebuchet launcher but not with the touchwiz launcher.
Now the workaround I implemented when using touchwiz launcher (only launcher the developer provided) are:-
1. Once the device is up after a reboot, connect the device to a computer, Turn on USB Storage, then Turn off USB Storage.. This causes the phone to re-scan the SD card of Apps, Music etc... But this option isn't very practical
2. Install the app Appkik [https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.diune.appkik2&hl=en], and kill TouchWiz Home process, this will cause the launcher to reload again and then display the apps icon correctly.. Now this option is quicker, but could cause the launcher to become unstable, saying that, since implementing this option, the launcher has crashed 5 times today..
So The question is:-
1. Is there an alternative way of fixing the issues with regards to displaying apps icon correctly when using touchwiz launcher? e.g an app that can restart the touchwiz launcher safely
Thanks

P.S Please guys don't offer the solution - move the app to the internal storage. As you guys know the internal storage isn't very big and I want to avoid storing apps in the internal storage as much a possible. Also I know that I can probably install a different launcher, but I wanted to keep the rom I installed as close to as possible to the developers release.
If it is cm10 based, it probably has the hold back button to kill app. Kill launcher with that and it will restart it. Also for media scan I think you can use dev tools to re scan.

Thanks for the tip

Thanks for the tip, that seems to have helped, just wish the devleopers for touchwiz launcher fix this issue, according to other posts, others suffer from the same issue

That hasn't been implemented in Jellybean yet (to my knowledge) due to some issues. I hope it gets added soon though, there are a lot of times when an app starts making noise/using data that I want it immediately killed.

Does anyone know a way of getting rid of the ugly sgs lock screen???
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I was hoping they would change it with Froyo, guess that is not the case. Its the worst lock screen I have seen on any phone, period. I actually don't mind touchwiz but this lock screen is so ugly, it does not go with the tw launcher at all. You may need to go with a custom rom or some app that may change it.
Yeah i guess was hoping i wouldnt have to go the app install route, more system overhead :'-(

Widgetlocker is our only hope
you can use the Mod to restore the Android Lockscreen but it caused a bootloop on mine and I had to reflash so...forget it
I wish we had the Fascinate Lockscreen it uses the "Fit Puzzle" even if you dont have a message
Or just download No Lock from the market for free and remove the lockscreen..
Check out these 2 threads if you're interested in reverting to the stock android lockscreen.
[MOD] Android Stock Lockscreen for JM8,JPH,JPK,JM9,JPM,JPA,JP6
[MOD] Change Glass-Lockscreen to Android with a script
The problem with Widgetlocker is that it is a bit funny I've found sometimes (it isn't always instantaneous. My main problem with the Samsung lock screen these days, is that you can't disable the music widget on it (so if it's sitting in my pocket, the music sometimes turns on and off. I worked around it originally using another music player, but now I just put up with widget locker
and then what? a crappy lockscreen is better than none

I used Tayatuma Lite ROM on my SGS and he includes a really easy way to use the default android lock screen (just involved renaming a file IIRC).

thanks! they both seem waaaaaaaaaay to hard for me to follow though!
Its simple as overwriting a file in the phone rom (have to be rooted)
I gave up cause I tried the JPM odexed file and it just gave me a bootloop and I had to reflash
Using Root Explorer (requires root I believe) it's really easy to do: just download the android.policy.odex (from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=784992) according to your firmware version and replace the original in the folder system/framework. Do a backup of the original in your computer before.
To replace the file, put it in the internal sd of the phone through usb and then move it to the system/framework folder using root explorer. Then reboot the phone.
Easier to than to explain, really.

Out of curiosity, why don't you guys like the lockscreen?
Another: se video
http://it.androlib.com/android.application.com-teslacoilsw-widgetlocker-jqpAj.aspx
You know the stock lock screen looks lame and gives almost zero "look at me flavor" BUT... after using the stock lock screen I came to the realization that this one provides an effortless usability by being able to swipe the screen in any direction, with any finger or thumb, without looking and with any hand. It takes no effort and that is just plain good. My $.02
The problem with the bootloops with the stock android lockscreen mod is caused by file owner and group.
I faced this issue and after 3 re-flashes I finally decided to check the file details on root explorer beofre rebooting (duh). Turns out you just need to go to the market, download terminal emulator and write this there: chown root.root /system/framework/android.policy.odex (for odexed firmwares, check if the path is correct. Can't really recall)
That fixed it for me
if only the text can be removed, and we can add calendar reminders, all that good stuff.
I happened to like sammy TW but I was wondering if I install LauncherPro, would it affect the performance in general? I know that they do not run at the same time but would it have any negative effect to have multiple launchers at a time?
extra launchers run in the background, but there shouldn't be any negative effects

you can force close tw if u think it's running. Just go to manage applications and select it from the list.
From my understanding though, when you install launcher pro and assign the home button to always use it, tw doesn't run in the background or even start with the phone.

Not only does twlauncher always run, it runs as a foreground app 100% of the time.

Yep, I'm trying systempanel lite from the market as a way to monitor processes & it always shows TW running & you can't keep it off unlike senseUI.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
there is a way to do it, you have to put the Launcher of ur choosing into the system/app folder and if u change the tw30launcher.apk file name to tw30launcher.old(this way u dont have to delete it and u can just change it back to .apk when u want to start using it again) it will not let tw run in the background cuz it wont be able to read the file. When u first change the file name tw will fc like crazy all u have to do is restart ur phone and it will just boot into the other launcher by default. I'm doing this with LauncherPro and LP seems to run faster being in the system folder than in the data folder anyway =D. this all can be done with Rootexplorer
I suggest you try that before reccomending it.
already done it, it was done already some time back I can't remember if the thread is in dev.or themes but it would be one of the earlier post. I said it causes fcs at first until restart so I did give warning on that but it works with no problems and I'm not the first to do this
edit: it is in development and the thread is called "Replace stock launcher"
Sent from my LV-Voodoo Fascinate using XDA App
This was my thread actually, and your statement is correct. You will fc until reboot, then all will be well. The running launcher integrates, and moving it results in bedlam for a second.
Just make sure you have the replacement launcher in the system/app directory before you move touchwiz out.
This is an old trick, just a new phone.

What happens when you move LauncherPro to system/app and then try to update it from the market when a new version comes out?

The work around is to pull down the update and pop it into the system/app directory.

Hey guys!
I've got a problem with my launcher (GO Launcher EX)...when I use another app, which needs more free RAM, it freezes for about 3 seconds and I have to wait for about 10 seconds when my all apps are shown in App Drawer...
Where's the problem? (sry for my english)

What ROM?
What ROM are you using? There's a setting in Cyanogen Mod that forces the launcher to stay. You can also use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1126940 , which is a mod that changes the way the RAM works for performance and to keep the home launcher application running.
I'm running on Mur4ik's RC1 ROM....I'm checking this option right now, I gonna try if it helps
I read about V6 script, but I don't want it. Instead of it I'm using Autokiller Memory Optimizer, which I think is same as V6 script
Yes, it's the same. CyanMod 7 has an option to lock home in memory under "Performance". Also, GO Launcher may also have such a feature. I don't know, I use LauncherPro. Good luck

Now I'm using LauncherPro, too and it works! many thanks for both of you
I've played with a few different launchers for my Epic (currently running CleanGB ROM), and keep running into the same issue. I've used Touchwiz, LauncherPro, ADW Launcher Ex, and Zeam. I have the same problem on all of them -- frequently when I hit the Home key, it takes me to a blank screen and I have to wait a bit for all my icons to reappear. I'm using LauncherPro now and it happens infrequently but still enough to be aggravating.
I'm guessing this means the launcher is either out of memory, or has crashed silently and need to restart? I've used the "keep in memory" setting but that doesn't seem to help. Happens most often if I've been using Navigation.
I want 7 screens with 4x4 icons and 5 buttons in the dock, that's it. Don't need anything fancy, just a lot of screens and icons.
Any recommendations, either for alternate launchers to try or a fix?
Do you have a lot of apps moved to your sd card? If so you may need to reformat it. Back it up, format, restore.

Supercharger script will keep your home in memory. I reccomend googling supercharger script and download and install that, your phone will thank you.

Probably not my issue... I just put CleanGB on my phone last week, and when I did so I reformatted both the SD card and on-phone data storage. That said, yes I do have a lot of apps on SD.

Oh well, it was worth a shot. I have been using Zeam and it is real fast on my phone. Have you tried clearing memory after using navigation with Memory Booster Lite or even the stock task manager?
Hello ,
I am using stock rom with root .
I have inconsistency behavior with the "Recent Apps" function (long press on home button) :
Sometimes it show that no recent apps exist, and the list is empty, and after the second try it shows the full list of Recent Apps as expected....
if I try another time (after two seconds!) it show again that no Recent Apps... etc...
Another thing :
Sometimes after holding down the home button to get to the recent apps I'll get the vibration to know that it registered the touch but the recent apps won't open
Is it happens to you too ? Is it LG's bug ??
Thanks.
I'm on stock unrooted and I'm experiencing the same thing. Also, sometimes after holding down the home button to get to the recent apps I'll get the vibration to know that it registered the touch but the recent apps won't open. This is a huge factor in my decision to root and install a custom room soon. I want that recent apps button instead of having to long press the home button.

Exactly ! this happens to me too. I will add it to the main post.
P.S - I don't know if a custom rom will help with this as I didn't see any custom rom mention that.
I've had the same problem at least an year on sgs2, sg note, gnex, sgs3 and now on my g2, all have been running aosp, so I doubt a custom rom will help.
Edit: count in also my asus transformer prime. I also think this mainly happens when running heavier apps, like games.

I restarted the phone and the problem has been gone for the meanwhile.
No need a custom ROM, I'm using G2 exposed with my G2 and it work like a charm, not bug at all. U should try this.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
I'm not sure about Exposed...
Does Exposed, in any circumstance, could influence OTA update ?
If I will remove Exposed + moduls, will the system return to the beginning state ? with the original APK's and their signatures ?
I'm asking that because G2 is about to get the OTA soon for 4.4 (Kitkat) and I don't want to miss it.
I haven't got recent bug but I have different. I keep apps in 6-7 folders. But when I restart device 2-3 apps in folders change order and folders (3G watchdog and booking). Does it only happen in my device?
Also an unrelated question. Is there any way to disable lockscreen help?
Not lg g2 user but just want to give you info, it is caused by android doing caching for recent apps. It was the same with my razr maxx before and i know it because i have tried to open the android framework too. On a second time then it will give you the actual recent apps.
