HD2 with ICS full functional, with FM Radio and Link2SD [Suggestion] - HD2 General

This is a fast guide on how to make your HTC HD2 working with ICS on a full functioning ROM and solving the internal storage problem.
I assume that you already have rooted your device. If not, see the official guide. You have to have a working MAGLDR1.13 and ClockWorkMod Recovery. Then you can proceed to the following.
First: Backup your SD Card , Phone and contacts before start. The following procedures wipe everything !!
Boot into recovery by holding power key after turn off. Format your SD card with MAGLDR1.13 utility.
Give 512mb ext3/4 partition or more (need this for LINK2SD later) and 128mb cache or more.
Go to advanced and mount the formatted SD Card to pc, and transfer the following ROM on it.
[1.Sep.2012] NexusHD2-ICS-4.0.4-CM9-HWA V2.7 (Kernel: tytung_HWA_r3.4)
here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1434860
Install ROM by choosing install zip from SD card. Add your google account and run the first time wizard. e.t.c....
This Rom is full functional ICS and for my opinion is running better than Gingerbread 2.3.5 on the HD2 and also is running even better than Official Windows Mobile 6.5. Is the operating system that this device deserves to have !! With SPIRIT UL you also have a working FM Radio. Audio method in settings qsd8250, Bluetooth must be on before launching SPIRIT UL. Battery Life is quite good, depends on usage.
Before adding any other applications or games from the play store, you have to get FIRST OF ALL LINK2SD and set it to automatically link newly installed applications to SD card (from settings in LINK2SD application). Be sure the first time you start LINK2SD you successfully load the ext3/4 partition. Link2SD will guide you on first run. Also you can link any existing applications to SD Card (by clicking create link) so you can save some space. Advantages of LINK2SD is that the ext3/4 partition is loaded by the device and when you plug the device on a usb port on a pc and mount the SD Card, it will not mount the ext3/4 partition, so your applications are still available and the system can still use those, and of course you saving space from internal storage. The only bad thing is that you taking space from your SD Card.
Now you have a full functioning ICS Rom on your beloved HD2.

correction for clarity,
"In magldr choose option 8-ad recovery,, this will load cwm
Once cwm starts choose advanced-format SD"

how to tell if my apps2SD is working/turned on

I'm on a 32b mytouch.
with AMON_RA 1.2.3 recovery and CM 4.2.13
I used the amon_Ra recovery to setup my card. wipe~> wipe Dxxxx~> format with ext 2 ~> convert ext2 to 3
From what CM site says it should work 100% on its own. I have a feeling its not the case with my phone, is there a way to confirm this.
Its automatic, theres a Apps2SD script in the rom that starts up on boot to activate the EXT. You can type df in terminal to see how much space is being used and some roms allow you to see secondary storage via settings which is EXT partition.

Assuming you've partitioned your phone correctly, Cyanogen ROMS have an automatic apps2sd feature installed. Another very easy way to confirm is to go to select menu, settings, Sd card and phone storage, check how much internal phone storage you have. Then, go into market place, install a few random apps, go back to your sd card and phone storage and recheck your internal memory. If the number has decreased, then your apps are still being installed onto your internal memory and something isn't right.
when i pull out my SD card. should all my apps disappear?
i'm assuming it should, when i remove my SD all my apps are fully functioning.

maybe you have used a rom without root permission. make sure that your rom supports app2sd. Secondly partition your sd card with the help of gparted livecd or you can use the AD recovery's build-in tools to partition your sd card. then flash a rom supporting app2sd. here cm7 recommded, the extra space will be recognized automatically. if you use miui rom, pls make sure that your partition format is ext3. after flashing miui, open terminal-1.su-2.a2sd reinstall-3.reboot automatically-4.open terminal again-5.su-6.a2sd zipalign-7.a2sd cachesd-8.reboot automatically-9.just install whatever you want.

This makes me believe that App2sd+ is working, how else is there only 22 mb free? What is the partition size you made?
Things you can do:
Clear Cache of apps
Clear the downloadfile-#.apk in /Cache/ (you need a root explorer to do this)
Backup apps, delete apps, restore apps.
Another thing to do is to start from scratch, reflash your rom, using a backup program to backup your apps. Completly clear caches, and wipe sd card.
DOING THIS WILL WIPE YOUR PHONE AND LOSE ALL SETTINGS
Rommanager is only available for cLK, make sure you have cLK, or phone will boot-loop.

[Q] HD2 & App2SD

Hello everyone,
I've an issue and I am looking for your advise & support. I've bought HTC HD2 512 EU with the following NAND specification:
Android ver: 2.2.1
Baseband ver: 15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14
Kernel ver: 2.6.32.15-saint.J_Rev.005-g009fade-dirty [email protected] #8
Build no: Desire HD Rev.10.XU
Software no: 1.72.405.3
aMAGLDR V1.13
The Issue: I wanted to install App2SD to be able to install apps in SD Card.. I followed this thread => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=926015 & followed Darktremor instructions here.. However, When I entered the MAGLDR menu /AD Recovery I found no CWM recovery mode "no boot source".. So what should I do next as Darktremor approach assumed that there is a CWM recovery mode to be able to format, partition and flash the App2SD, while I haven't!.. What should I do to make it work?
Thank you,
unzip attached file.put the folder you get to your sd card.in mgldr menu: services-boot settings-ad sd dir-find the folder and choose it. now you'll go to mgldr menu automatically now take the second choice:ad sd. so you'll go to ad recovery.(by this method you have to do all these steps each time in order to go ad recovery.so it is recommended to flash a recovery using daf and usb flasher.but this will erase your installed android rom.) and in ad recovery menu backup your current rom.because darktremors method doesn't go well with som roms.and know that it leads 2 extra reboots after you flash it.
mutil, thanks for the reply. I did as you mentioned.. got into the CWM successfully but failed to partition the SD correctly. After it said=> "Done..! partition SD successfully!" I got the screen full of errors like=>
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E: Falid to find "cache" partition to mount at "/cache".
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
E: Can't find misc
P.S: I choose partition size of 1024mb & swap of 256mb..
Update: I ignored those errors & installed the App2SD & rebooted but didn't notice any change! The available space on the internal storage still 201mb!.. SD card now reads 14gb, previously 15gb..
download a2sdgui from market. move dalvik cache to sd.this gives you some more space.i think a2sd will work for applications you install from now on.therefore i install it just after i installed a new rom.btw 256mb swap is high. you must know that it may harm your sd (but i also use 128mb swap in spite of its risk)

Thank you mutil...
About the swap, do you suggest me to redo the whole process again and limit the swap to maybe 128mb?.. I remember that swap partition is always double the mem size..
What is the max recommended ext partition size for the App2SD? because on the CWM you can make the partition up to 2048mb..
no just for that, it doesn't worth to redo everything.next time when you change rom you arrange it.i dont have much knowledge but the swap is said to harm sd-card.but as my experience it also improves speed.
Ext
If u want to install apps on EXT partition don't use App2SD,or A2ext use Data2ext.
Similar to a2ext, where data/app were stored inside your ext partition of the SD card, data2ext stores the whole /data inside your ext partition.
That means your internal storage will barely be used, and because nowadays some SD cards runs faster than your internal memory.
Instructions:
*This is a CyannogenMod version! Not tested on DHD Roms!
1.Make a Ext3 Partition via CWR
2. Flash data2ext_for_CM via CWR (attached) (DON'T FLASH IT ON THE FIRST BOOT OF ANY ROM!)
3. Go to your terminal emulator/adb shell to type data2ext --enable
4. Reboot
5. Go check your Ext storage via Titanium Backup(Your internal storage [220 mb~] will not be increased you must check the ext space from the Overview page of your Titanium Backup [SD card(a2sd):....mb(...mb free)])!

Guide to partition SD card and use with Link2SD to store apps

I have been looking for something like this for a while. The flipout lacks internal memory and it soon becomes a problem if you want to have a good set of apps.
Here's what you'll need:
1. Rooted Flipout (I won't post instructions to this step, look for "Universal AndRoot")
2. Partitioned SD card (see below for instructions), depending on the method, you might need a phone with CWM to do this and ADB installed on your PC.
3. Download Link2SD from Market
So here are the steps:
1. Partition your SD card. There are many ways to do it. I will post two ways:
Use MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition
My PC didn't like this tool and I wasn't able to use it. However, it should be quite easy, you just need to put your card in a card reader and build two partitions with the following characteristic:
First partition will be your main card partition, should be of the whole card size minus the extended partition you want to create
Second partition should also be fat32 (link2sd didn't like ext2 nor ext3 on the flipout, it only worked with fat32)
Use CWM. I personally didn't want to install it on the Flipout, so I used a Samsung Epic 4G for the steps. You should be able to use any phone with CWM to do it, put your SD card in the phone with CWM and boot into recovery:
adb shell reboot recovery
parted /dev/block/mmcblk0 (open partition manager for SD card)
print (prints partition table)
Here you should have one partition table, starting at some point and ending at some point like 7969 if your card has 8GB. Take note of the End value as you'll need it.
rm 1 (deletes partition 1, this will erase all data on the SD card)
mkpartfs primary fat32 0 7425 (creates a new primary partition, the second number should be the value you took note of in the last step minus the size in MB of your desired extended partition).
mkpartfs primary fat32 7425 7937 (creates the new partition for applications, starting at the end of the last partition and ending on the max size of the card. In this case I used fat32 as I couldn't do it with ext3 nor ext2, link2sd didn't like this format on the flipout for some reason).
The partitions are created and you should be able to go to the next step.
3. Reboot your flipout with the partitioned SD card, make sure to have link2sd installed.
4. Open link2sd, it will take a while, ask for root permissions (always accept and make sure to have Remember checked).
5. It will ask for the partition type, select fat32. If you are asked to reboot your phone you have everything setup, otherway please post your problem.
6. Once rebooted, open link2sd again and go to settings and configure. I don't like having all applications automatically linked as widgets and this kind of apps can fail if they are on the SD, so I have this setting unchecked. However this is a personal decision.
7. To move an app to the card, hold your finger on it and when the menu appears, press link and confirm.
8. To move an app from the card to the phone, hold on it and press unlink, check everything and wait for the app to be returned.
Further Tips:
Avoid moving apps to the SD that are use widgets or that run all the time like: messenger apps, alarm clocks, climate widgets, etc. I tried one or two without any failure but I feel they could be less reliable this way.
Don't remove your SD card if the phone is turned on, now it has a partition that is used by the system, if you remove it you could have issues, I would only remove the card with the phone turned off completely and not boot without the card.
I made some tests connecting the USB cable to the PC and using the phone in storage mode, the PC could see the primary SD card partition and the phone could still work with apps on the second partition, so it seems to be stable in this sense.
If you need to switch to another card, you would have to setup the new card in the same way; I don't know yet if backing up the second partition and restoring it to the new card will work. If your data is critical use some SW like Titanium backup to back up the apps that are linked, remove them completely and restore when you have the new card setup.
So, this has worked for me like a charm, the phone really seems stable and I have so far like 150MB of apps on the SD card. No need to have a newer Android version, it seems very stable.
Disclaimer:
Any process that involves rooting your phone and partitioning can potentially cause data loss and/or bricking your phone. Do this only if you are 100% sure of what you're doing, I will take no responsibility for any data loss / damage caused by this process.
If you have any questions I will be glad to help.
Hi great post above
I rooted my phone and I partitioned my sd card into 2 partitions , both FAT32 primary 3.7GB and when i open link2sd and select either ext 2 or ext 3 I get an error message
"Mount scrip error
Mount scripe cannot be created.
mount: no such device
ext 2 may not be supported on your device. Try FAt32 on the second partition"
Has anyone come accross this problem before ?
Hi,
When you open link2sd,scroll down and select fat32. I tried formatting the second partition with ext2 and ext3 wit no luck. Fat32 is working just fine.

Hi Thanks a million that worked great

I can tell some experiences with backups.
Before I had blur stock rom with link2sd and changed to deblur central europe rom. After reinstalling link2sd all apps where still gone.
And even after restoring all user apps with titanium backup they were restored to phone memory. I had relink them with link2sd manually and to batch restore with titanium backup twice because it broke down in the middle because phone memory was full.
Unfortunately link2sd is no magically way to have them backed up apps and to be independent from the rom. Titanium backup is still needed but that is fine. Nothing seams broken after restore with TI and relink with link2sd.
lovdanie, it's strange, had no issues with the tested phone yet, I partitioned 500mb and it has already like 200-250MB of apps linked and is working great, no issues.
One thing that could have happened is that you removed the SD card. Are you sure the SD card hasn't been touched or formatted?
bagers, it's not really a magical solution, it's just a way to get more space on a phone that lacks internal memory...

Help
Hi, I just partitioned my SD card. When I open the Link2SD app, it did prompt me to select the file system of the SD card's second partion, however, after I select FAT32/FAT16, Link2SD could not gain root access, there's no pop-up of indicating me to select "Allow" on the Superuser Request. Now wot do I do. Please help, thank you...
Well, I would start checking the SuperUser app to see if there is some exception in there. If you don't have it, check out if your phone is rooted by installing some other app that requires root access.
If not, check the root method for your phone.
If it's the Motorola Flipout, download version 1.6.1 from this thread, install it and run it:

Hi,
Have seen similar problems when using ext filesystems. Are you 100% sure that the secondary partition on the sd card is fat32? It really should work on the flipout without any issues.
Remember that you need:
* Rooted flipout
* Partitioned sd card (secondary partition must be fat32)
* Link2sd opened and allowed to use root permission
If you are sure you did everything stated above, we can look at it with more detail. What tool did you use to partition the sd card?
root permission
hi,
i have installed Link2SD from Market to my lg optimus p500 os,gingerbird2.3.3,when i stared to move app to sd it asks root permission.
so pls guid me to activate root permission in my device

Hi,
It doesn't make much sense to use Link2SD if you're on Gingerbread as your OS natively can copy apps to the SD card (at least some of them). Just go to "Manage Applications", and select the app you want to copy, there should be an option to "Move to SD"...
If you still have some good reason to use Link2SD, you should first look in a forum for your specific device to find out how to obtain root (I cannot help because it varies for each device)... Once you have root access, I can help you out with this process.

When I partitioned mine I used GParted Live. It's a Linux-based boot disk, but you don't really have to know anything about Linux to use it. Just download the .ISO and burn a CD, pop it in your PC and boot off it. Its free, graphical (not command line) and relatively easy to use. There is also an option there to set it up to boot live off a USB drive, but that's a bit more involved to set up.
gparted . sourceforge . net / livecd.php (sorry, it won't let me directly post links yet)
If you can burn a .ISO to a CD, you can probably figure it out. Just make sure you pay attention to which disk you are partitioning (look at the sizes) so you don't accidentally re-partition the hard drive in your PC.
EDIT: If there is anything you need to back up off the SD card, I would do that in Windows first, and then copy it back using Windows after. You CAN do this with GParted Live but there would be additional steps to mount / unmount the Windows partition on the PC that you want to copy to.
the bootstrapped recovery seems to be having a partitioning tool.
Maybe im wrong, haven't used it though

Installing android on HD2

I have been installing android on my HD2, I followed a guide but I'm not allowed to post the link. I installed hspl4, then CustomRUU, then MAGLDR, then ClockWorkMod, then NexusHD2-ICS-CM9-HWA V2.8 from zip on sd card.
After 4 hours trying to make it work, it finally did. Now there's just 2 problems:
Every app crashes constanly, some wont start
There's only 400kb space left in the internal storage, so I can't install anything.
I believe I have installed android NAND, though I can't quite figure out what this means. When following the guide my phone said I needed to make a EXT 4 partition on the SD card. So I did that manually. I used the 250 MB version of clockwork.
I was wondering if it is possible to install and run android on the SD Card, so there would be more internal storage.
I have never done anything like this before, so I don't have any experience, but I tried to choose the NativeSD (SD-EXT) option instead of NAND with DataOnEXT. But when I boot AD SD it says ssSD kernel open failed
#EDIT
I whiped it, then I tried making a bigger EXT4 partition of 1 gb. Now it works. I am pretty sure I installed it NAND again, which I think means on the internal storage, but the internal storage is now 1 gb, the size of the partition.

I was wondering if it is possible to install and run android on the SD Card, so there would be more internal storage.

well done, and welcome to the forum. The "internal storage" that the android rom "sees" is your ext4 data partition on your sdcard. That is how DataOnExt works. NativeSD does the same, using ext4 partition for system as well.
The NAND is the real internal storage.
Glad you got it sorted :good:
Edit; perhaps, when trying NativeSD, you didn't specify which folder (usually called NativeSD) on your sdcard to boot from, using magldr menu 10. services / 1. bootsettings / 3. ad sd dir then scrolling down to NativeSD folder. Then 2. boot ad sd
