Nexus 7 Waterproof Cases? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was wondering if anyone has found a waterproof case much like the Life Proof cases for the iphone and ipad (sorry for mentioning the i devices). I like the protection from water so I could use my nexus 7 while lounging in the pool, but really haven't been able to find something other than what look like fancy zip-lock bags, which i don't like because they cant stay on the device all the time, and they seem cheap. Thanks in advance for any help.

I haven't seen anything like this but am also somewhat interested in this as well. Would be something nice to have around when going on vacation to the beach or going to a pool party.

Just looked around myself and didn't see much. I would like an otterbox fully enclosed kind of thing.

You must be a ton of fun at parties sitting around playing your nexus, j/k couldn't help pokeing fun.

I'm trying to buy the new nexus 7 but without a waterproof case, I can't do it.
I'll be forced into this: http://www.lifeproof.com/shop/us_en/ipad-mini/lifeproof-ipad-mini-fre-case/
anyone find a functioning waterproof case?

Looking for a couple things...

Looking for two things...
1. I want to use my tablet as an alarm clock. Can somebody suggest me a dock or a stand that I can get off of Amazon that will charge the tablet as well as keep it standing up (landscape)?
2. I need a portfolio case, not expensive off of Amazon as well. Suggestions?
I purchased a cheap portfolio case of amazon, it's much better then the riot brand one I already had, and at 1/4 the price, it also came with a screen protector (which I haven't installed yet) and an hdmi cable. all for $15. It has the cutout for the dock.
Also Acer does sell a dock but it does not charge from the dock. Your search might just be the case I have acres portfolio case and it pretty good.

Kind of a big variable. I am looking for specifics that people have had luck with.
Bump...
Have you looked through Amazon and read the review of products?
Have you gone through this forum and looked at the reviews people have posted?
You could just get a case that stands well in landscape and plug your tablet in... you would kill two birds with one stone.
It seems like you are expecting people to come here and tell you what to buy, and I just don't think that will happen. If you have gone through all the review threads here, you should have a good idea of what cases people like and if you can narrow it down to a few I am sure people would be able to give you their opinion of one over the other.
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_nr_n...=acer+a500&ie=UTF8&qid=1330355343&rnid=541966 - There are all the accessories Amazon has for the A500.
Anybody have luck with this at all?

rooCase FTW!
The rooCase is a badass case, I have it, it has velcro on the bottom so you can adjust the angle to your needs, and it even has magnets on the top of the lid, it´s pretty awesome for $15, seriously. Tablet won´t slip and you get access to both sides without trouble. The only but is that you have to take it out of the casse to get to the microsd slot (which for me is not a big deal, seriously).
Plus it´s leather!

The BEST case for the A500.

What reasons are you getting/(rid of) the Nexus 4?

As the title says, for what reasons are you getting the nexus 4? Or even getting rid of the nexus 4?
Could it be because of the lack of memory? (Is 16 not enough, and is it a pain always connecting it to your laptop/desktop to change anything on it?
There's no real thread for all the good and bad points of this device.
I personally have yet to actually get this phone, and was put off by it's lack of usb capabilities particularly with a ps3 controller. But earlier I discovered it's possible to connect a ps3 pad to this phone purely by bluetooth, so I now again want this phone as soon as google sort out the stock and shipping problems.
What's your view on it?
Reason to get it, Cheap, Pure google. Latest updates for years.
Reasons to get rid of it such as only 16GB storage, fragile, no 4G are just stupid as everyone is well aware of this BEFORE they purchase the phone.
my phone just fell from the recliner onto a rug which is sitting on a hardwood floor. its pretty much an 18" drop. that popped my glass loose. i can now barely squeeze the bottom and i get a clickin noise. 2 days after my 15 day return.
the nexus is an absolute hunk of junk and not worth the savings. way too many things to list on how cheap this phone really is.

Unlucky about that.
You're one of many that's complained about how crap the glass screen is. I've tried looking for drop tests on youtube while in the case but there doesn't seem to be anything. Most of the cases look dead flimsy as well.
As you say about the casing of the phone itself is perhaps a downside to it, but not one enough to deffer me from it, a good case should right that flaw (I hope).

Updates isn't really that much of an issue with cyanogenmod only being behind the official release by no time really.
Fraigility is a concern but as I said above a good case should right this flaw. I don't see 4G as a massive thing at this moment in time. It's fairly new in the UK, and massively overpriced comapred to standard 3G/+

My mate just got the note 2 and reckons it's better which I don't mainly due to it's huge size. Alright for a woman carrying it in a purse but not a man wearing jeans lol.

I've never really thought about insurance, but then again this will be the most expensive phone I'll buy to date when I get this.

is this phone too good?

I have been using my nexus 4 on at&t's network for a little over a month now and I cannot find one downfall of this phone... I applied a Dbrand black leather sticker on the back glass and that just made the phone feel more professional.. almost like a blackberry 9900. (but more functional) My question is, has anyone found a phone that can shake a stick at the nexus 4 as far as fit and function. I have a Htc One and i am thinking of returning it because I see myself using the nexus 4 and leaving the one at home more often then not.

I'm a fan of the N4 but you have to be realistic. There are plenty of phones now which can easily be considered better than it (e.g. HTC One, S4, LG OG Pro, Xperia Z) and while none of them are anywhere near as good a deal as the N4, most are better phones for the majority. Only a few people actually care about updates outside of XDA and don't really know how awesome stock Android is compared to other UIs.

Yes it's too good
I wasn't really impressed with the S4 or the HTC one tbh. Overpriced for basically the same specs you get with the N4. Samsung phones are loaded with bloat now,and feel like a hollow plastic toy. You can hardly tell its android anymore with the TW bloat interface. Yea the HTC one has a nice build quality, but is it really worth shelling out almost 700$ for? I don't think so. I will never buy another non nexus device again. (All personal opinion) I am extremely happy with my N4. I haven't had 1 single issue with it. I get 2.5 days of heavy use and about 5 hours screen on time with my ROM kernel combo. And for 350$ you cant beat it.
Keep the Nexus, return the One.

[Q] Movies in bed

Wondering if anyone has good solutions to using the N10 to watch movies in bed without having to hold it.
Yes I admit its pretty lazy but it sucks to hold a tablet in place for such a long time.
Ideally laying on ones back would be best. Cases and accessories are fine too.
Thanks!

This + Nearby table (or modify it to somehow hook to the wall itself)
No idea how well that particular product works though, but I did order it yesterday.
you are so lazy
Of course, I also have had you have similar ideas, but I want to let it stand on the table, so I went and bought a stent, thought you could have thought of lying in bed watching the movie without the book to take the machine, was the best. I suggest that the wall in your room you install a bracket, or a rope hanging from the ceiling, and then put the machine back with a strong adhesive tied on it. In short the lazy lazy approach.I esky rc helicoptershand it to you.

I use this most every night "Nexus 10 DIY Pogo Dock©". I may have written about it as humour but I really do use it. Its greatest advantage is a soft underside unlike the metal based alternatives and of course being dirt cheap.

I'm fat so the nexus rests over my belly during bed-movie time. I just hold it the minimum to make it not fall.
Leaning it against a pillow works pretty well if you have an extra.
Wow thanks for all the suggestions. Man I was really hesitant on posting this question at first cuz of the lazy factor
The pillow idea sounds good I will have to give that a try first.
The retractable arm looks epic... I will have to take that under some serious consideration... It looks entirely possible for me to mount that on the headboard. Heck it even looks like a conversation starter... "Hey baby wanna check out my bed/tablet mount?" :victory:
The DIY project looks interesting... I may just have to try that just for fun.
The gogopillow looks interesting... I am wondering if anyone has tried it yet... The only possible downside I can see is the tablet getting hot.
Any link for the belkin case or even the name of it?
Thanks again, and I hope this might have helped others who are just as lazy but was too lazy to ask.
90% of Nexus 10 cases function as a stand. If you don't like to cover your tablet a pillow works. They also make stand alone tablet stands, but I don't know how comfortable they would be on your lap. I bought the cheapest case I could find
http://www.amazon.com/Poetic-HardBack-Protective-Function-Warranty/dp/B00A6X3ZM6/ref=cm_rdp_product
Using it as a stand works perfectly.
Here are a number of different hands free Tablet alternatives:

The first post is from a Nexus 10 owner who actually bought a hands free holder while the second post includes links to multiple hands free tablet holders.

Durability

Everything about this phone is pretty amazing but, my main concern is the durability. HTC can do pretty well in bend tests based on what I've seen. The problem with this phone is there is a lot of chassis missing for that glass back.
I know it's a bit soon to speculate but, it's no longer a small risk when it comes to the initial outlay and I may just sit this one out for once as my 6p and 5x are both doing quite well considering I went naked after about a month. The 5x is my work phone and I have dropped it all over the place, spilled tea on it, and it lives in my back pocket during transit.
I really hope Google did their homework on this one because all eyes are on them now.
yeah, the glass panel's exposure scares me a bit. HTC's had a history of absolutely bang-on build quality, so that leaves me feeling good, but glass is glass. honestly, i was really hoping for a soft curved back like HTC has been known for, which is a crazy help for keeping wear down on normal use (obviously doesn't help drops). I am reluctantly awaiting potential bumpers since clear skins never last or look worth a crap, or maybe just go full retard on a Live Case.

for sure. once it's in hand for a few days, I'll make a call, plus more case options will have surfaced by then, and people wills tart weeding out the dumb OEMs that misalign port openings on their first manufacturing runs. i'm hoping to keep this naked as long as possible. historically, cases weren't for me, but that changed with my 5x. love the diztronic on my it, it's done a masterful job of protecting the phone's shell from the embarrassing amount of discoloring it experienced in the first 3 weeks i owned it and didnt have it dressed up..."get the blue-ish colored one, they said. yeah it's matte but it wont collect dirt, they said...". jerks.
The glass on the back worries me.
And what annoys me about it is that there doesn't seem to be any functional justification for it.

Ok, so I caved in and got an iPhone 7 a week ago on their upgrade program. That way I'm not spending so much in one hit. I've bought a smart battery case and I got nearly 12hrs usage yesterday with a lot of camera activity and gaming thanks to the double battery power. I can do most of what I was doing on my 6p and in a lot of cases more. There seems to be some minor perks for the iOS versions of the Google apps. For once I'm going to wait for my contact renewal in January and keep an eye on all the news with these phones. If they turn out to be the real deal then I can get more than what I would have got if I was buying it like I normally would a Nexus. So in 3 months the winner can be my daily driver and the runner up can be my work phone. I must admit iOS has certainly matured since I last had a serious look. If you actually take the time to configure it to your way of working it's actually the same. I still use all the same apps I was using, even my password keeper. All my friends and family have started to wonder if I'm having a midlife crisis because I was so anti Apple and I can only admit I was wrong. It's something you have to openly experience to understand.

GMonkey I've just asked if anyone here have used an iPhone recently and after that I read you post.
Do you recommend me to try the iPhone 7 now that the Google Phone has the same price?
My last phones: Galaxy S3 (I hate Touchwiz) -> Galaxy Nexus > Nexus 4 > Nexus 5 > xperia Z5 Compact (I regretted this decision. Bad camera) > Nexus 5X (excellent camera like the Nexus 5 and 6P)
I'd like to know how is the iPhone 7 compared to the 5,X (specially the camera without HDR+) and using only Google Apps and Google Sync (not iCloud, iTunes, etc. Just Google apps). Can you replace Siri with Google Now?
Considering this...do you recommend me that jump? Or I'll miss Android a lot?
Thanks

It's a tricky one because there are pros and cons. The good thing is that you have 2 weeks to make your mind up and apple are pretty good at disputes from what I hear so you could always try it for a bit. It's another world compared to the 5x (which I'm still using as my work phone) because of battery, camera, and the fact it's water resistant. It depends on what you like about Android. If you like all the Nougat features with notifications etc and rely on quick charge then you may struggle. If you don't mind losing out on the openness of Android then you'll like iOS enough to switch. I use inbox, google play music, movies, books, keep, YouTube, google drive, sheets, docs, and slides in exactly the same way as before. Google has been clever in building its own ecosystem within iOS and I can still share things to drive and keep etc as I did before. You can still keep documents offline and keep them synced. Google photos still syncs and it also supports iOS only features like moments. Drive and it's related apps have a password feature which is nice to have. I still use a password manager. In apps it only works on some, others you need to copy and paste. It works fine in safari if you press the share button on a log in page. My photos are far better than my 5x and 6p. 3D Touch is amazing, anyone who says it isn't hasn't given it a good shot. It's given me the ability to hold down on an app icon for shortcuts or preview links or images etc. People complain that google puts more effort into iOS apps and it's just because it's easier to cater for a small number of devices. Other developers seem to be doing the same. The only limitations are what the OS won't allow which I prefer out of privacy. Remember with Google we are the product and the ad space buyers are the customer. There are 2 main ways to make money in the software space. 1. Is by selling a solid solution and 2. By offering a free solution that has other ways of making money. This is why Facebook is the largest media company in the world without ever uploading a single photo of their own. It's been built by our efforts and so has Google. With this in mind you know who will be the better option when things go wrong. I used to avoid Apple shops like it was someone else's church so I had no idea how they operated. They didn't have an issue with me being an android user and they spent so much time with me even after the sale was made. I've been back in since to ask questions as it's not for from my office and it's like I've got my own little XDA shop to walk into but, I won't get shot down if someone disagrees with me. When you realise that some of your favourite android blogs also have sister sites that are iOS based and all the fanboy anger is driven by them you realise it's ok to like both and I now visit both websites and follow both podcasts. Sorry to have gone on for a bit, I just wanted you to know it's not just about the product as the service behind it and the community that support it are equally as important.

Hey and what about replacing Safari with Chrome. Apple Keyboard with Google Keyboard and Apple Maps with Google Maps? Is this a good idea? I have years of custom words saved in Google Keyboard.
Can you also replace the main gallery with Photos?
I'm really tempted to try an iPhone 7. However I don't think I can buy it just to try it. If I bought it, I would use carphone warehouse shipping it to Barcelona. (Here in Spain it's much more expensive than there).
Regarding Nougat stuff...well I'm using a lot the new DoubleTap to fast switch between the last 2 apps and I love it... But sometimes it lags in the poor 5X with limited RAM.

I was lucky enough to run into a Google Rep at a Best Buy. From the short demo she was kind enough to give me it looked like she was using the phone as her daily driver. The device had a nick in it on the corner from what looked like a drop but the back and the glass seemed fairly flawless to me.
The back glass is Gorilla Glass based off of the tech specs. Also one thing I'd like to note is that the FRONT of the device is NOT 2.5D, the back window is. At least nowhere near as 2.5D as the iPhone.
