Most Metro Apps crashing - Windows 8 General

Hi all!
I have installed a Windows 8 Pro on a Desktop PC (W8, 64bit at E8400 with 8GB RAM on Samsung SSD Serie 830).
After that, I logged in with my Windows Live Account. I start setting up the Mail App, with a few imap Accounts and an Exchange 2010 SP2U6 Account. I have installed ATI Radeon Drivers 12.8 for my Serie 5xxx graphiccard and the win7 Drivers (there are no w8 Drivers) for my Soundblaster X-fi Titanium.
Than I noticed problems, while using Metro apps. Some are working a few clicks, like mail, calender, contacts, before they crash, some apps crashing directly after starting them (apps loaded by store are crashing, too. Some apps are working fine.)
I tried a W8 refresh. After refresh I thought this will work now, cause for a few minutes, the apps worked, than they start crashing again.
After that, I installed W8 Enterprise on a DELL XT2 with Touchscreen. After Installation, I logged in with my Live-Account.
Most informations got synced, like mailboxaccounts, and other settings. Now, what happend, after working with the Metro apps? They crashed! Same Problem at the other PC System, with a fresh Installation of another w8 Version.
Both Images are official from my MSDN account and not cracked or modified.
I got the following Event entrys (example for mail app Crash, every appcrash Event looks same...my win8 is german, so the logs are in german, too...sorry):

Can somebody help me?
Thank you.

I read about a problem with the MS Live Account. It seems, the problem is cause of a bug inside that account. This would explain, why I get this error on both pc´s (thought about it before). The problem is.....how can I fix this, without changing to an local account? It seems, Microsoft has to fix it. Until that, W8 is useless for me.
That´s really a bad start for W8 and me
Anyone else got this problems?

Go I to ease of access. Look for something about tabs, shut it off. It causes issues in preview. It was left on in the preview but is off in the RTM.

This bug isn't in the RTM but is in the consumer preview and release preview
Shut off any ease of access. The culprit for me was one that had something to do with tabs. The RTM trial i am running now doesn't have it but the consumer and release preview i used previously did.
Hope that helps!

Sorry, didn´t help, this are all RTM...there are no Consumer Previews from Professional or Enterprise...
I still have this problems, and many others, too...
There is no chance to solve that at the moment, Windows 8 is useless for me

Try to Update Your Video Card if your Manufacturer does not have a driver for the windows 8 Try not to update your VGA When you perform Refresh or reinstall

Thanks for the offer, but again...I can use different PC´s with Windows 8...can just use yours once and will get the problem, it´s not a local problem. With my own PC, I use the amd drivers 12.8 since beginning, the other is a Intel GMA Card, so I use standard Win7 drivers for this...I can setup more and more pc´s, it´s possible, cause I have a big infrastructur, but the problem is reproduciable on every system whit my MS Live Account.
Maybe a problem with SAN Certificats at the Exchange Server, or a problem with the Exchange Mailbox Rules, to protect the PC, or maybe a problem, cause using a MS Live ID with own login address and using this address with another IMAp Account...but it´s definitely a problem with the MS Live Account.
I can´t and don´t wanne change this account, cause with this account I have some WP7 purchase, many configs, Microsoft VLS, MSDN Technet....
I think it´s just buggy and needs to be fixed by Microsoft

Do you have the machine joined to a domain? Lots of problems with group policy settings. There is a thread on Microsoft forums about the issue and solutions.

Not sure if this is related to your issues but I recently caused all my Metro apps by adding sharing permissions to my entire C: drive. Apparently a dumb thing to do since adding sharing to the hidden folder "Application data" will break all Metro apps from working. And I thought the solution would be as simple as un-sharing that folder but apparently not.

I've bought Windows 8 Pro 64Bit today, upgraded my Win7 with it and got the same Problem....Apps are crashing immediately after clicking on them.

Same here... even MS apps crash. Updated from 7 Pro to 8 pro two days ago and this is really bad. Looks like a semi-finished product...

A bit late maybe, but try (as test) to use the standard Microsofts Display adapter.
(Control Panel > Device Manager > Display adapters.)
My metro apps started crashing as soon as I updated my (intel) video card's driver.
When I changed back to the "default" video driver all was okay again.

Are any of you guys using AVAST Anti Virus?? I had the same problem with apps crashing after clicking on them until I updated to the newest version of Avast and everything started working properly.

Anyone find out why this happens? And how do I fix it? I do no have any antivirus installed. I am unable to download apps from the store. It says not connected to internet. Its driving me crazy.

i have the same problem.... i can't log in anymore with my MS account :crying:

Okay I see a lot of people complaining that metro apps are not working. Here is what you should do:
1)First of all ,check your screen res.Apps need a minimum resolution of 1024 x 728 to work.
2)Download the latest updates for your video drivers
3)Uninstall avast antivirus.Use windows defender instead.
4)Check the apps reviews whether the app works for others.
5)Do a detailed Search on google

It is as i said, the first time i was able to sing in with MS account and after a few days i made a recovery (because i changed "owners permission") but without erasing my files and now i can't log in anymore...
The metro apps crashed and i can't see anything online
I searched a lot (i used fix from MS with account sync and windows app store) i followed all the steps but it's the same.... i was thinking to make a fresh installation without my files and deleting pc permisson on MS profile.... maybe it will work...

First I would try and create another user account. Then log in with that one and see if it works. That will tell you if Windows 8 itself is hosed up.

Wirelessly Sync folders on PC AND WiMO?

Hi,
So here's what I want to do:
I have a folder on my pc with files in it. I want that to sync that with a Cloud storage type system online. Then I want a folder on my Touch Pro 2 to sync with that online folder. Now I know what your thinking and before you flame me with stuff like dropbox, sugarsync, mesh, myphone etc... they can't do that. They sync from pc to online just fine, but then on the tp2 I have to navigate to the web to retrieve files, or with sugarsync there is an app to install and I can load the app and download the files to a folder that way. I don't want to do that. I want a folder to always stay sync'd. I've search all over and can't find that kind of functionality. This would be real handy in a scenario where i need to constantly sync 5 or more phones together with multiple pc's. I don't want to tell the user, ok go to www.getdropbox.com or load this or load that...
I hope I am just missing something and it does exsist.

Unless i missed something, then it only works that way if your able to install mesh and sign in on your phone. I didnt think they were accepting anymore ppl for testing on mobile devices. I installed it and checked just to see. Without this, your forced to grab files from the web.
I can't get the live mesh program to work on my Sprint Touch Pro 2. It lets me enter my login info and then crashes while logging in. Is there something I'm missing?

No clue about why it would crash. It doesn't matter anyway, you can't use it. It's closed to new people.
Anyone have any thoughts about the actual topic of this thread? There has to be a way... No one needs to do this?!

It's not closed. You just need to activate your mesh account for windows mobile which involves clicking on a specific link. I did it and I got the client installed and working. Works great! But wouldn't want to deviate from the actual topic of this thread...

How would that be deviating? If there is a way to get into Mesh and it's not closed, that would potentially directly solve the original post.

I will report if this works. Thanks!
it definitely worked for me. you'll see that windows mobile becomes an option in your mesh after visiting this link. but getting the program to validate on your device (touch pro 2) is hit or miss. i just had to try it many times and finally it worked. then there is also an issue of the program crashing upon startup that i mentioned above. i've narrowed that down to being related to the memory card. the program will start if i remove the memory card prior to executing it. i can then put the memory card back in while the program is in the login screen and it works. still trying to find a better solution. let me know if you have any luck.

Been playing with it all night. So far it's working flawlessly. No crashes at all. I have a 8gb storage card. It's sync'd to and from 1 other verizon phones, and 4 pc's... It's cool, you take a pic with your phone and voila it's on my wife's phone too, as well as the mobile picture directory at home. Would love to help you get it working too. Have you checked out this forum?

You can also use Remote Touch. It doesn't sync, but it does allow you to transfer files remotely, back and forth from your desktop and your phone. And of course, you get the added benefit of controlling your desktop remotely with your phone.
When I'm in a hurry to leave the office I'll queue a bunch of files in RemoteTouch and have my phone download them while I'm on the road.

Can you tell me the exact phone you have? Is it the Verizon touch pro 2? Maybe it's my brand of memory card? It's definitely good when it's working.
Also, did you have any trouble validating the phone on the mesh? Took me several attempts and it seems other people had the same issue. I have been to the site you linked a little bit but maybe more research is in order.

Facebook keeps logging out :(

I installed WM7 into my HD2, contacted MS, activated marketplace and xbox using the tut. All went mighty smooth thanks to you guys.
Only problem im facing is that FB refuses to stay logged in. I log in once, browse , close it and then when I come back, it says
"facebook passwork is incorrect".
I give the same password, and its all fine for that session. Then i close it, and its back to square 1.
Help please.
I had exactly the same problem!
After re-installing WP7 & doing the activation steps by the book, it seams ok now.

If yes then you should just stop right now, flog your phone and get a nokia 3310!
its simple allright. but i already installed tons of apps and synced contacts ( which is a badass pain in WM7). But is there any other fix to this ?
My WP7 did the same & re-installing with the same memory card fixed it.
Installing WP7 is a lot easier than Android, unless your apps are on ext4.
Have you been running PC installed xaps? Cus if I install from PC they all get revoked after a short while

W8 Metro Apps doesn't open

I have recently upgraded my windows 7 to windows 8 and have had lots of problems since that. Firstly I can't download/install lang packs. My laptop is from germany and I don't know how but when I upgraded to W8 it automatically changed to German and it doesn't give me an option to download/install any other language. [Solved]
Secondly, I can't open any apps. When I click on one, it loads a screen saying "App Preview" and then comes back to the Start metro interface. How do I at least fix that?

A friend of mine had exactly the same problem.
Finally, it ended up with a clean install of Windows 8.
It may sound crazy, but Metro apps need hardware acceleration. Install the latest Windows7 driver for you video card.
Most of the integrated drivers have hardware acceleration. I get this problem every so often, just keep opening it till it stays open.

thanks for that insightful post mate, moving along....
ive had issues with apps not opening, but as already mentioned trying a couple more times usually works. Im not convinced about sticking with the upgrade, if you have the space id suggest a fresh install WITHOUT deleting the partitions, the install wizard will copy all your old windows folders to a new folder called Windows.old.
You can then work through it coping all your files to the new OS and delete it when your happy.
everything you need will likely be in windows.old\users\username\
another good place to hunt about is windows.old\programData\
before you try all that, this is going to sound stupid but have you tried turning off your computer?,
yesterday Windows had updated some files in the background (WMC) my Mail App was refusing to sync with no errors at all, when I shut down the computer it came up that it was installing updates so I turned off the PC at the wall for a few min and when it rebooted it worked perfectly...
it's a common problem if you upgrade to win8.
Solutions:
1.) Do a clean install (no upgrade from win7 or other win8 beta)
2.) Fix it.
Save the below to a .reg file, execute it and restart your machine.
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

I have tried the regedit fix but that didn't work either.
I think it's a problem with the videocard driver, as when I upgraded, I couldn't open CCC anymore.
I'm trying to uninstall the driver to reinstall but I am facing some problems right now, the driver won't remove completely it appears and it won't let me update to the recent one.
Hey guys,
I have tried multiple clean installs of win8 (RP) because repeatedly the metro apps stopped opening after working fine initially. I was able to nail the problem down to kasperky internet security. I tried webroot internet security and things are working great.
Try it and trust me, it will work.
I don't think that is my issue here as I don't use any anti virus software other than MS Security Essentials.
Same issue here... Cut the rope and Weather will not work. Rest of apps do work. They all worked on Consumer preview... i did the upgrade to RC from there. I'm going to fresh install it next, but i was hoping i could work it out 1st.
It seems I managed to get the graphics card driver to work, CCC is now opening but still I can't get the apps to load. What now?
It's a common problem. I have trouble opening my apps too on multiple tries. It's not your display driver. Just keep opening the same app and eventually it will open.

download latest windows 8 developer preview it will work
No, it won't. The fix is the change to the Registry.
Microsoft themselves have no clue about the issue - they'll tell you it's a graphics driver problem, but that's wrong.
If the first Registry fix doesn't work, try this one in addition to the first:
(it might break your installation!)
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Ole]

Now you can add gmail and much else that did not work.
None of the suggestions above seemed to work
I think I'll give up.

OK, I'll try, but what the hack is FUBAR
I'd suggest using this Internet thingy you're on to look up what is obviously an acronym (a well-known one in this case) but your parental controls are probably blocking you... I can't for the life of me understand why anybody would "use" such things (they are almost entirely useless; kids at my school bypassed them whenever they felt like it).

Aye.
Setting up a different user count is a cleaner and more elegant solution.

EEhh, I have a different user account for that. I created a Standard account for my brother and set it up the Parental Control for it.

Ummm....then what you use the parental control for? This is like trying to do the same thing twice. A properly set up account should be enough. Or are you trying to restrict his access to video games/internet? In my experience, limiting never works, unless you make him understand why it there should be a limit. And he will probably find a way to bypass it sooner or latter.
As GoodDayToDie mentioned, your parental settings are probably messing up with windows up to the point where windows goes FUBAR. So if you can't get this to work, deleting his account and recreating it should help fix the issue.
Well, removing the Visual C++ Redistributables and creating a new account didn't work, I reinstalled them, still no luck

There's always the posibility to repair/reinstall windows.
try running this in the command prompt (with admin rights)
sfc/scannow
you should preferably have an internet connection active while this is happening.

I cannot post the log becuase it has logs since I installed Windows.

Then you are left with repair/reinstall windows.
Well, it seems that it was corrupted Windows. I upgrade it to 8.1 and now is working, no errors Thanks again.

Windows 10 Experience

So now that people are upgrading to the release of Win 10, I'm curious about your experience.
For me, it's a smooth OS with a lot of things I need to get used to but I have made some discoveries.
The task bar - on my main monitor won't auto hide. A search tells me this has been a bug for the last few technical releases. Oddly enough, all of a sudden, a few minutes ago, it started to work but I assume this will stop in the next reboot.
The Mail App totally sucks. No number of new emails in each account when you click on accounts. No view for all accounts. No using mouse/shift to select multiple messages. No Check boxes to select all messages in any folder. New incoming messages show up in the action center, only, but you have to open it to see them. Not getting desktop notifications.
Cortana looks like it could be good but setup has been a pain since for some reason my Microsoft LifeCam Cinema HD cam can barely hear my voice, even with level up all the way.
Camera App - totally doesn't open at all. I had to d/l a third party app which I don't like.
Settings page is tough to find things like Advanced Settings. That's WAS, oddly, in System/About but now it;s gone and replaced by other shortcuts. so setting the paging file size manually, etc is just gone for now.
Edge is the best browser yet by MS, but it's not going to get me to stop using Chrome
What are everyone else's thoughts so far?
It's nearly perfect. Drivers catched up, not a single incompatible program, major performance boost in games after installing the latest Nvidia driver. The only bug I've seen so far - Action Center's tray icon is lit on on system startup even though it's empty.
I'm recommending it to everyone I know, I've already installed it on 3 PCs I have access to. It's just 10/10.
Upgrade??
First, so far I like Windows 10 a whole lot better than Windows 8.1, but the upgrade has been a nightmare.
The upgrade on my AlienWare (Dell) laptop went smooth. No problems at all. The upgrade for my Surface Pro 3 (Microsoft) has been anything but smooth. Microsoft's own computer did not upgrade right. First, it installed Windows 10 Home even though the Windows 8.1 that was on it was the Pro version. It also wiped out all of my installed programs and apps. I didn't lose any data but the applications will all have to be reinstalled.
Mine won't even install on my Asus Transformer. Says Key cannot be verified....
If you are still having problems and difficulties upgrading your PC to windows 10, kindly follow this post on my website. A few clean up steps got my Dell system to upgrade to Windows 10 http://www.selftechgenius.com/how-to-geek-2/how-to-upgrade-to-windows-10-for-free/
OK, so here's a big one. I use my 500GB D:\ drive to store documents, downloads, pictures and videos by default. I tried to save a picture off the web to the pictures folder and got access denied error.
So I looked properties, security and noticed 2 things. 1, the folder was marked as read only and 2, there was and Unknown User account. I deleted that account, and changed the properties on both C: and D: drives and that fixed it but you should all go check to see if you have the same thing.
I'm thinking I'm going to get a 1 TB HDD backup to put all my personal things on, format both drives, then do a clean install. I've always hated doing OS upgrades on top of older releases and the few bugs I have, like the camera app not working or the VIA HD Deck app not opening are the reason why. I just have to wait for all my hardware devices to release Win 10 drivers
I wasn't a fan of Windows 10. Immediately after "upgrading" the track pad on my laptop didn't work properly anymore. Based on my research it's a driver issue with no solution until the driver is updated. Who knows when that will be.... I use my laptop a lot for school and can't afford to wait.
Microsoft also removed basic tools like paint with no good replacements in the app store. I also didn't like how it pretty much turned my laptop into a phone by calling the Control Panel "settings" and having an app store and stupid stuff like that. I went back to Windows 7 after less than an hour on Windows 10 and couldn't be happier.
I did like the UI, though. It kinda reminded me of the material design of Android 5.x with the flat colors and stuff.
I am very happy with win 10, got it on my Desktop and my Tablet and even though i had some touchscreen issues in the beginning it works well now on both devices
I did a clean install on my laptop, as opposed to the update on my desktop, and it's better. Cortana works right, etc.
My ONLY beef is the mail app sucks
I upgraded my Lenovo to Windows 10 with the media creation tool but after a week or so decided to do a clean install to get rid of the terrible bloat(though most of it I removed when I got the laptop).
I downloaded the ISO and CLEARLY remember choosing 64bit Home Single Language. But after I diakpart the drive and reinstall the OS I realize that I have a 32 bit version installed.
And my 15GB limit of "high" speed broadband is exhausted and I CANNOT download a 4 gig file on a 512 Kbps connection.
I'm stuck till next month or till my friend gives me the 64 bit ISO.
But its completely my fault, so guys BEWARE, don't make stupid mistakes!!!!
But I like the OS(mostly). After disabling Microsoft's sneaky data collection and automatic updates its all good. Don't forget to disable live tiles cause they hog bandwidth too.
But boot speed is faster, performance is better and multiple desktops and snapping is great!
[Moto E 2nd Gen 3G running CyanogenMod 12.1]
I don't like Windows 10 at all. It sucks on Tablet(Touch) and PC/Laptop. With StartIsBack++ you can fix Win10 a bit for mouse/keyboard, but the UI is still cluttered and ugly as hell.
Really?? I don;t have that problem at all, especially when doing a clean install
My upgrade went well.. But afterwards it was a nightmare. It took my DAYS and about 14 reboots just to get it unfrozen long enough to open task manager with ctrl+alt+delete. Then, suddenly, after a reboot, it worked. It is now even faster than 8.1 (although I sometimes need to use task manager to speed it up). All of my programs and files work.. Except for cam studio which didn't work on 8.1 either. [emoji13]

I totally agree with Mail app sucks. I sent some emails but sent items folder is still empty, not syncing.. And honestly, I don't like the settings app because eventually it forwards you to the control panel for lots of settings. So what's the meaning of this setting app, right?

Right. I just pinned Control Panel to Start so i can get right to it
I have Windows 10 pro. Whenever I try to connect to my pc using various remote desktop apps on my android, it gets connected for a moment and then it shows error message that someone else is connected to your pc please try later.
Any suggestions?

I did a fresh install, I like it, just that there's no direct access to the computer from the start bar, I managed to pin 'this pc' to it, but It wasn't good enough.
I added the start menu back from Stardock Start10.
fresh w10pro install here on an hp elitebook. no issues at all.
On Acer fresh update, no problems
I updated my Toshiba Satellite to Windows 10 and it runs smooth. There's only an annoying thing. Sometimes when I turn on the PC and log in it says that Cortana and Start Menu aren't working, so I must have to turn off and to solve this problem temporarily I have to press Shift while it turns on. But some days after it happens again.
