For new users!! - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

This is a humble requests on behalf of all the noobies!!
I request the seniors in this forum to post a thread on how to root, install recovery and other preliminary stuff. One thread that contains all the trivial info on flashing new roms would be very convenient.
Please explain it step by step for the new users. By doing so you can encourage more and more users to download and use the custom roms.

It is critically important that you specify your exact model. "Ideos X5 U8800" applies to three or four different devices. I turned one U8800-51 into a paperweight by not appreciating the differences.

Just so you know. CWM is not foolproof. I had one device that CWM was unable to rescue from the CWM recovery boot.

does rooting void warranty??
Hi..

I was wondering if u cud tell me or redirect me to the rooting process. I wish to use ICS but my 800 Mhz processor wont allow me to

While we are at it, new users should know that there are multiple versions of the Ideos X5 U8800. These include, but are not limited to:
U8800
U8800pro
U8800-51
There may be others. All MODs are model specific!
The exact model number is obtained through settings -> About phone. Please include the model number in all posts.

First of all, this is by no means an accurate technical explanation, just a description to show you what it does.
It's a low-level utility, sort of like a bootloader, which can be used to flash files from and to the internal memory.
Typical usage is: flashing new roms, kernels, themes, patches, ...; performing and restoring backups (called nandroid or bart); running various scripts like fix_permissions; wiping nand and/or ext; partitioning SD card
This means you can basically use and maintain your phone without use of a computer. With my old Magic, I often downloaded roms with my phone straight to sd, quick reboot to recovery, flash, and done!

Well done Cotulla et.all. !!
Thanks again for spending your time in this community project!!
I think we need now a RECOVERY IMAGE to make this phone more like a "out of box" android phone..
Once the port is based on HTC DESIRE, could someone try to port some DESIRE CUSTOM RECOVERY to the phone?
And if it is possible, how we will get it to work over MAGLDR??
Please all experienced users take a look at this!!
Thanks and happy new year!!!

Hey Everybody,
first of all, Happy Merry Christmas,
guys, I try to understand if what I looking for can be done or if there is some way to do so.

But I will be glad to know if can be possible to install DataOnExt after flashing the ROM on NAND.
someone can tell me if this is possible? Please...

Dear Marvlesz,
I was writing a PM to you just to ask you about that but I changed my mind and I opened this thread,
I saw that thread and like always you make me a criminal
That thread is a lot too complicated to make it right, there is not any easy way?
I mean flash DataOnExt anfter installation or something similar?
Haha, I am not making you a criminal or anything, but rather YOU are making yourself a criminal.
I mean seriously, here is a quote of that post:
How is this done?

I noticed that you rarely thank those who try to help you, or even manage to help you!
Thanks by words is not beneficial for them as much as pressing the thanks button. The button is there for a reason.
I also ask you kindly to go over your past threads, such as the almighty battery life thread, and thank everyone who tried to help you. Not just by saying "Thanks!", but by pressing their thanks button!
An example is shown on the above post, the thanks button is located right next to the "Quote" button.
I click thanks for you.
Last one thing, the DataOnExt have to be flasher via recovery, buy I do not have the recovery installed on my Phone, I got Android on NAND which was installed via MAGLDR in Flasher Mode.
Now if I will flash the Recovery my Android will be deleted, right?
I can't find any explanation for this, do I have reinstall all again?
I'm afraid you'll have to reinstall everything from scratch .
Why are you using the flasher anyway? All ROMs that use flasher are old and outdated .
(By the way, I didn't mean just thank me, I meant everyone.)

not so, , , OP could use cwm that runs from sd card, and use that to flash the dataonext.zip to the current android, , HOWEVER, , the fact that he has no cwm on there already tells us that the version of android he is using is probably the original proof of concept (desire stock) and may or may not work with an ext anyway (its not rooted, for a start), so OP would be better picking a more up to date rom anyway (one with dataonext built in would be a good start) and flashing again anyway.

I did that on one of my two HD2, 1 have Gingerbrad and the another one have ICS 4.0.4 but currently ICS give me big problems to run programs which Gingerbrad do not have. On ICS I can install the apps but they crash after run them.
So now I try to keep my Gingerbrad but expand it with DataOnExt, anyway run CWM from sd is a good idea, I will give a shot on that, if something go wrong I will reinstall all from scratch again.

I was skeptical when I wrote that sentence, because I knew you'd come and say something like that. Because that happened before.
But I also wanted him to cope with the rapid development of the HD2 and the recoveries. Besides, that ROM is outdated anyway, i.e. the ACA gingerbread.

Save to an easy located place.
Connect your computer to the tablet and start fastboot(volume up and down together and power button)should show fastboot starting.
Open a CMD window on your computer and type cd c:\ to get to just a c prompt.
Then type fastboot flash ESP This bit then should read the full location of the unzipped file that is patched.
An example like mine is fastboot flash ESP c:/adb/1050f-esp-patched.img , this is how I did mine and I have an unlocked bootloader and permanent TWRP

The files were originally made by ionioni and workdowg i believe and they work!! All the tutorials have been deleted for some reason so now all the rest of the users are either stuck at a boot screen or cant upgrade (like me).

So they work, but there's no proper tutorials to ensure that things are done properly, is what you're saying?
Also, the deletion/closing of those threads is baffling. Does anybody know the reason? Maybe the moderators can chime in.
I believe XDA rules say something about source code for files must be open source, and if I have read right ionioni infringed the rules.

Well for the tutorials, the original threads maybe closed but there is still valuable info there.

Sorry... All those files are long gone as with my device.

We need a proper root, unlock/relock flash guide.

I see plenty of people asking for rooting help etc. I think we need a proper guide on how to backup TA partitions on M & N. How to restore. How to flash recovery and kernels and in which order. Which tools do you need and where do you get them and when everything is set and done, how to flash a rom.
A step-by-step guide.
I see answers like "just unlock and do this and that" which isn't answering peoples questions. And the result is just people asking "and how do i do that?" and the loop of replies with no content continues. I'd be more than happy to help, but havn't had the device for long, nor have i done anything to it yet. So i'm hardly the right person to do so, yet.
Why are you speaking for these 'plenty of people'? I don't see anyone asking, it's only you because you don't put effort into looking up and reading and you want everything to be served in your plate. Everything is very well written if you TRY to search for it.

You should TRY and read the OP again, you clearly didn't get it.
And why i'm speaking for "those" people. Because no one else is. The difference is that i don't have any difficulties doing so, it doesn't bother me. You could've spend your time more productive coming up with suggestions to a possible solution, eliminating those "i need help rooting/flashing/blabla" threads. Whereas you choose the easy way and just be a prick about it.
