Hi,
I just created a new topic because I was wondering if my device was fine.
I compared the sound WITH headphone of my Nexus 7 VS my iPad 2.
Seriously, the sound quality is so much better on my iPad, louder, bass stronger, sound quality.... seriously it is like comparing headphone paid 1$ to the dollarstore and a Bose headphone paid 500$ What's going on? I used the SAME m4a file and the SAME headphone.
Thanks

On my iPad, if I put the sound volume at max, I can't keep my headphone on my hear because it is too loud. On my Nexus 7, I would say the volume is half my iPad volume at max :/

Try putting them in in such a position that your ear is completely filled by the silicone, but not so much that it flattens out in your ear.
The bass, miss, and highs sound really good!

They are decent, but you can't call them good. Try other headfones side by side and you would know the difference.

I agree, in fact I even use them with my iPod Nano, it's better than Apple's earbuds
But being spoiled by my Sennheiser hi-end headphones on my desktop, it's really hard to come to a decisive choice, so after reading some reviews I decided to order a Klipsch Reference S4i for using with the Note and iPod too.
I am also spoiled by Bose MIE2i. Can't do stock headsets after these

Sennheiser headphones > all
good choice and nice to see someone buying decent headphones instead of a stupid name.. *cough beats cough*
but on topic, the supplied headphones from samsung are pretty decent for stock headphones with a phone, i still rock the ones that came with my i9100
I get really confused when I hear people saying how flat they are also...
I did hear much improvement in overall sound quality when moving from stock player to poweramp, but the headphones themselves I think are impressive for an included set. I actually found that I needed different size buds in each ear to get a good fit.
Really glad it's not just me Have tried some in ear sennheisers which are very good headphones, but the difference is very slight.
Would also second that they beat apples included set hands down!

Yes, they are the best 'free' headphones I've ever had supplied with any of my devices - comfortable, perfectly acceptable sound, and the in-line controls are handy too.
Listening to MP3s on a train is never going to be a hi-fi experience so I will probably bother upgrading.
I would have to agree with the OP. For what they are ("free" included earphones) they are some of the best. That said, they really can't compare to some of the other offerings out there.
P.S. It's not very difficult to beat the sound quality of Apple's included earphones. They suck really bad...
They sounded alright for kit headphones, but mine broke after 3.5 months. The right bud cut out last week, then the left one followed a few days later.
Yes, I definitely was surprised at how they sounded. Very good for bundled. I have a great set of open ear headphones for critical listening but people tend to exagerrate how much more of a benefit these audiophile solutions provide. The stock buds from the note get you easily 90% of the way there. Very good by Samsung.

Personally I think they sound terriblly tinny and hollow compared to my own iems (vsonic r06) but I never expect much of bundled earphones so I wasn't disappointed.
i find them very good.
im using powerAMP as MP3 Player & EQ and i get really nice sound out of them.
i also have bose in-ears. but they dont have so much base..
So I've recently been using my tablet to play music onto my nice dj style headphones. But output volume and quality is absolutely horrendous. I have to be at full volume to get and reasonably level sound, and then when I'm at that level, everything is very distorted. On my one X which has some beats eq thing, sound is wonderful and much louder. Maybe this is just a problem with stock Android, but I need to find some way to get much higher quality and more importantly louder music. I've tried a few mods available here but they don't seem to do much.

What mods have you tried. I use awesome beats on my galaxy nexus. If not that trickster mod app has a setting to make the volume high. (Correct me if I'm wrong) I have my galaxy nexus stock and rooted.

I have tried awesome beats and it doesn't seem to do much. I also tried AC!D mod and for some reason, whenever I started to play audio, my tablet would freeze up

I haven't used much except for DSP, but the audio is just difficult to have it loud. I've found external speakers BT or through audio jack is the only way to go.
Be careful what you try because I've read about people blowing their speaker trying to increase volume. That being said volume+ from the play store worked when it wasn't fighting the other sound mods I had installed. Pimp my ROM app. has some flashable zips that helped. Bottom line its one of the sacrifices that kept the price of the N7 low. Better the speaker to be mediocre rather than the screen. I bought some ear buds and if I want to play it loud for the neighbors I jack in to a stereo. Also a set of desktop computer speakers (sub and two bookshelf) work great with tablets
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
I use my N7 speaker to listen to music and get quite surprised and how loud it gets and don't notice any distortion. So I'm not experiencing what you are. Maybe I'm just easily pleased and aren't as passionate about audio quality as others
Sorry to say this but, it will never sound good. Not even with sound mods. The sound chip inside the N7 is just really, really bad. I've tried it with a pair of $900 Shure headphones and nothing can save this thing.
Hey, all!
So I had a Nexus 4 for a few weeks and loved everything about it...EXCEPT for its poor sound headphone sound quality. Music played on the Galaxy Nexus I had before this sounded fantastic on my Bose QC15s and Klipsch s4. I didn't even need to use the EQ; it was balanced and perfect right out of the gate. Not so on the Nexus 4; most of my music sounds muddy and bass was next to non-existent.
I was able to adjust for this on the EQ provided in the Cyanogenmod builds (I think it was an 8-band EQ), but could never do so on the 5-band EQs available on stock.
Is this a common problem?
Thanks!
Strange I'm listening to music as I write this and there's no problem with mine its clear and crispy with nice bass. I also compared it with my s3 about the same quality as my s3..
Give franco kernel a try

Agreed. I like listening to music in my car and always connect my phone to the speakers with an AUX cable. However, the music sounds very low and dreadful. This was never a problem on my Galaxy Nexus or G2. It was clear and crisp. Bass on the Nexus 4 is absolutely pathetic and the volume is too low. Probably a software problem. I'm not rooted by the way.
Nexus 4 terrible sound quality

Hi
Even I face the same problem. I think it could be due to version 4.2.2 because people who said sound quality is good may be having 4.2.1 or earlier version
Please let me know if you got any luck in resolving this issue
Thanks
I actually did a test with two files, one with an excerpt of an mp3 from a well recorded album, and the other... the same mp3 played back on the phone, recorded from the phone's headphone output. No one was able to identify which was which more than 50% of the time.
I think the latest version of Nexus 4 has poor sound quality. Mine is updated with camera lens and have some 2 nubs at the bottom of the phone to prevent rear glass to touch surface
But the sound quality is poor. I don't understand
Can anyone confirm this?
I also think the sound of my N4 is not the best i heard on a mobile device... Plus the volume is dead low imo...
I can hear a big diffference when im listening to Mog on my i5 compare to my N4.

Try Franco kernel and the xlouder mod. Works well for me. Now my nexus 4 is no longer anemic on bass and volume and sibiliant on highs.

Could be impedance mismatches between your headphones and the device. The frequency response of the headphone jack is pretty flat, though volume with the stock kernel is an issue.

Does anybody notice difference on sound on other tablet? or this is just another ad gimmick?
just feel louder than previous nexus 7
AFAIK the option is only available in Play Movies.
Even normal stuff, the sound is pretty cool. I really like it. Nice and loud and sounds good.

The speakers themselves are quite good, and by far better than last year's Nexus 7.
I can't say much about the virtual surround since I immediately flashed a rooted ROM after I got it and it (probably) removed that feature. I've been between a few ROMs since and the best I've seen is the DSP Manager.
I've noticed improve loudness and clarity at louder volumes on the new Nexus 7 as well. Compared to other tablets I've heard I would say the quality is very good.
As for the surround feature, I can say the only video/audio where I have noticed a separation between speakers was the nexus 7 video they uploaded to demonstrate the surround feature.
It is hard to tell the "surround" part and sometimes I hear it when using the speakers, but I definitely can hear the stereo stuff (left channel vs right channel). I did notice some sort of surround sound with headphones on while watching breaking bad the other day

The feature is only in the Play Movies app, if you open it up it should ask if you want to hear a demo

Hello!
I am reading more and more bad reports about the audio quality and loudness over BT, if you tried it (car specially) is it really bad and not loud enough?
The only thing I like in my One is the sound quality even on BT of my car (though it has aptx)
as far as i know, the g2 has aptx. ive used it for my bluetooth (through aux) and its the same loudness as my htc one. cant say there is a difference.
I can say coming from from an iPhone 5 to the G2 there is a little bit of audio quality difference. I wasn't sure if it was just me paying attention closer since its my first full time android phone.
The highs tones are very high and the rest of the sound is kind of neutral compared to the iPhone 5. In sound its like listening to a 128kbps song versus a 256kbps. If you listen closely enough you can hear a tiny bit of distortion/noise but I think if the equalizer was able to be adjusted that would not be noticeable.
Seems the same as my GNex. No complaints or concerns.

same for me coming from a gnex. sounds the same to me. if anything the bass seems stronger than gnex. i'm using jaybirds bluebuds x earphones though, not plugged in through aux in car.
I will try mine on the way home from work today. My Lg spectrum 2 Bluetooth audio sucked compared to my DNA, so hopefully there not the same
One of my favorite attributes of the g2 is that on my Jay bird bluetooth headphones, the sound quality blows away my ip5
