ROTYThis thread has been created to select the best ROM of 2012 so far. This is the first installment of many 'award' threads to come. Sorry, in advance, if this has already been done for 2012.
Before I list the nominees I will first state the parameters meant by 'best': features it adds to the phone, user friendliness, overall look, overall performance and ease of install.
Please Vote in the POLL
Winners of all awards will be announced in a final thread and all of these singled threads will be on a request for close within a month so vote fast

My vote is on GingerZaraki. Yes, I might be a member of the team but I don't work on the ROM itself. And I find its performance really amazing.

Feel free to sort through the thousands of ROMs, basic and advanced, and edit your post and input the names. I just selected some of the most popular. The top ROMs on the x8 development on XDA. Sorry to disappoint you.
What do you think of the gif:
I actually vote GingerDX it was probably my 1st custom ROM on my X8 and it's the ROM that drove me to make my own ROM

Agreed. It's also my first rom, and eventhough i'm not using it now i always find myself flashing back to it again and again. Unfortunately i'm on stock K so my options are limited. Would love to try minicm and gzr though.

I think we shouldn't choose best rom from all version. Better will be to choose the best rom for:
2.2
2.3
4.0
4.1

GingerZaraki it is fastest in this group :good:
my vote goes to GingerDX, i will love to try the other roms, but i have locked bootloader(11w39).
My vote goes to GingerZaraki for Rohin's incredible rom.. Even version 1 was really fast and stable. It just gets better and better!
I have to take my hat off to GingerDX team though. The features they include are fantastic and keeps the locked bootlader clan very happy.
Isnt too early for this poll? Maybe we should do this at the end of the year, who knows a better rom comes out in the mid or sept, oct, nov or dec? I agree with the idea to categorize it coz you cannot really compare ROMS which has different platfrom, CM9 and 10 is of course no match for CM6 and CM7 or JB & ICS is no match for GB and Froyo. Or is this a general poll out of users experience. What is the basis of the award and what award will the ROM gets?just curious
And please hit the poll instead of writing your bet rom since post I guess in not counted. Merry Xmas guys
hye
i vote FDE +4 youself,,69fps at neocore,fast and smooth:silly:
In response to deedii it is just a general experience.
I think Deftone was right to do the poll this "overall" way..
That's the only way we can get an idea of which is the most popular "overall"..
Separate categories just makes it too convoluted and serious.. This is a bit of fun but still gives newcomers a very quick idea of the most popular.
I'm disappointed that FroyoPro2.5 isn't in the poll though as it's the best "overall" rom for our devices.. The only rom where everything works perfectly as it should.
You think so? Do you think you can compare a motorcycle to a bike? Ok then if this would be general the basis will be ROM fans.

Because... well, why the hell not?
But let's change the core idea a little. Instead of picking which rom you think is the best, just vote for which ever rom you are using right now. After all, if you don't like the rom you probably won't be using it.
And as for all those haters out there, I actually think this kind of poll is good for the developers. Companies hold polls all the times to compare competing products. It's a good way to see how well you are doing against your friends and rivals. Furthermore, a low popularity doesn't mean your ROM is bad. It might just be that you are relatively new to the scene, or perhaps your users simply don't venture to the dark corner of the universe called "General".
So vote on people! The results should be quite interesting.
P.S. Only roms listed in the [ROM LIST] thread are on this poll. So I apologise if your rom is missing from the poll. Go blame it on splish2010 instead
now this is what is called a competition

With ROM kitchen leading i guess most votes are coming from Froyo users.
For Gingerbread there's plenty of better options than (beta) kitchen right now...
This topic should be 2 separate votes: 2.2 and 2.3

Perhaps. But once ROM kitchen Gingerbread goes out of beta, most of the froyo users will probably upgrade to Gingerbread. So the results are still relevant.

You will find someone with each ROM that's happy with it. Everyone has a different feel for what works for them. You don't want to use the ROM that they like, you should use the ROM that you like.
This thread has been created dozens of times with a myriad of answers already.
The above poster is absolutely correct. Each user will have individual tastes and desires out of a rom. I suppose all of this delves back into the ultimate issue of overall user experience. Perhaps why the CM line is so successful is that they unify that experience across a multitude of devices and generally make sure things work.
I'm very happy with Virtuous Sense v2.0.0

Image in the post above is awesome.
Calling one ROM "better" than another is an insult to the devs that work hard to give us these ROMs. Each ROM has its own merits. A better thing to ask would be "What is your favorite ROM?". Even so, there are many threads on this topic.

THANK YOU.
I always thought the Mexdroid/PyroMod p*ssing contest was extremely immature. I like the eye candy behind Mexdroid, but PyroMod has the speed.
I happen to like Virtuous G-Lite the best because it has the best battery life and it is definitely the lightest and fastest-performing ROM that I've tried. That being said it doesn't have a lot of the addition "features" and styles of other more custom ROMs but through the use of GO Launcher and just replacing a lot of the stock Android apps with others it is pretty much infinitely customizable. For instance, pretty much the only stock android app I still use is the phone dialer. I've replaced the messaging app, gallery, camera, launcher, and even browser (XScope is pretty awesome btw, thanks Amazon App of the Day).
That's just my two cents but it really is a personal preference.
The lastest Virtuous Unity beta. Seriously, the next stable version will be amazing...
Sense 3.0 run so smooth on this rom!

Tried both Darkforest and JJ's rom
Both had bugs glitches (part of the screen was cut off)
also battery life was shorter than gingerbread
switched back to gingerbread until / if ics as good
Darkforest seems good, ill try it later;D

Enjoy
I've noticed a small battery decrease as well from switching from GB. I had to underclock Darkforest to get the same amount.
Still great tho. Just a little slow.
I've only tried regular beta and Darkforest, but I did try 3 different kernels. I found the Darkforest kernel had better battery life than the ICS doomkernel, but worse than advanced stock (when they haven't been tweaked)
The difference in battery life for me between ICS and gingerbread is immense. And as you can see in the Darkforest thread, I had severe graphic errors, lockups.. I thought maybe my hardware was screwed but;
Went to jokawild with doomkernel 11 and all the glitches went away. And my battery life is 2x longer at LEAST. Hour and a half of use took me down to 60%. On ICS the same amount of time killed the battery completely. And I haven't even finished tweaking this gingerbread yet..
Also, ICS was laggy. Constant slight lag, occasional large spikes. Gingerbread when configured right is really fast. If you mostly want ICS for the way it looks and not features, get an ICS theme and stick with gingerbread. The new features, especially changes to system menus and browser, and gapps were great, but simply not worth it IMO.
As time goes on and things speed up, I'm sure it'll become more worthwhile, but not right now

OK guys, one of the devs over in the atrix2 forum (my phone) not only ported this, but made it official, and its a great ROM, I have some bugs to work out, but I've built this from source and its running good for me, so before I make it a project I'd like a couple testers....
I am running it on philz recovery, and its running cyans kernel, so blackhawk should work....
Bugs:
cyanogen boot animation.... Working on that...
Keyboard: its for Chinese people... Your going to have to get one from the play store or use a root exploring file manager to place the apk in Tue links below in your /system/app/ Folder and change the permissions to rw-r--r--, then reboot.... Working on adding the aosp keyboard to the source...

Hello guys,
I realize that i am not a recognized developer or anything like that but i just wanted to share with you guys my opinion on the top xperia x8 roms
NOTE: ALL of these roms are compatible with nAa-14 kernel, so yes you guessed it, they are all android 2.3.7. Lets just admit it ICS and JB roms are great at the beginning but become incredibly laggy as you use them for longer.
If you have the kernel, fantastic, if you dont, here is the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1415012
SO HERE WE GO TOP 3
NO. 3 MiniCM7 2.2.2
XDA link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362585
PROS: this rom is just brilliant. It is completely fast and stable. It is rigged with android 2.3.7. Great for gaming. Best avarage gingerbread rom. Comes with cyanogenmod settings. Working radio.basically working everything. Good battery life
CONS: some may say that android 2.3.7 is outdated. Annoying installation: gapps not included, separate download

NO 2. IXPERIA 8
XDA link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2457598
PROS: this rom is very stylish. Looks a lot like the iphone IOS7. Almost everything working. Great performance. Great battery life. Great for those who love iPhones but purchased an android instead.
CONS: the radio is working (I think) , if you know how to use it, (i dont). Some may not like this rome as there is no app drawer, just like the iphone. Some may say that android 2.3.7 is outdated.
MY OWN SCREEN SHOTS:
NO 1. JELLYBREAD V4.5
XDA link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2421129
INTRO & PROS: have you ever wanted a rom on your x8 which just satisfies all your movile needs. This rom is absolute perfection. With a fully functional radio, high speed graphics, great for 2D, 3D and HD games. All features on this rom are fully functional.it never lags, I MEAN NEVER. I use this as my own daily rom more than the other two. HAVE YOU ALWAYS WNTED TO USE JELLY BEEN ON YOUR X8 BUT FOUND ROMS SUCH AS MINICM10 TOO LAGGY? Well this my friend is the rom for you. It combines the conplete Jellybean interface but using android version 2.3.7 (Gingerbread). This rom is very smooth. One sentence to describe this rom : holy sh*t, i found just what i was looking for.
CONS: Some may say that android 2.3.7 is outdated. But other than i cannot think of anything else
MY OWN SCREENSHOTS:
Now to wrap things up. If you have any more suggestions or roms for me to try out and review here , pm me or just comment bellow.
THANK YOU FOR READING THIS THREAD. I you agree with my opinions or just likd what you read, dont forget to hit that thanks button

Where is gdx? Also, what is/are the qualities needed for a good rom? Performance? App compatibility? Appearance? Features? what about kernels? there are more kernels than just naa's. What about roms for people with locked bootloaders? I'd say there is NO BEST ROM. Period. But if you're going to make a list anyway, you need to make it clear where you based your choices.
For example:
no gb/ics/jb rom can match stock or froyo roms when it comes to performance. Yes, froyo is outdated, but isn't gb as well? And more often than not, apps that work on gb work on froyo too.
no gb/froyo rom can match jb roms for app compatibility. Yes, they (specially froyo) outclass jb/ics roms when it comes to performance, but is performance the only basis?
Gb roms are somewhat in the middle, and does not really excel at anything compared to roms on other android versions.
If i had to rate it, i'd have
1. Minicm7 2.2.2 - naa 14
2. Gdx - alfs
3. Froyobread/froyopro
A cm10-based rom would have to be in the top 5 purely for app compatibility, but the list would be dominated by cm7 and froyo roms.
Prime hd is older, but still better than something newer ROMS, like nexus optimus, ixperia x8 etć
sorry OP, but you ranking is incompatible with the truth. You forget for old better projećts.
Hey guys, these are just my opinions of what the top 3 are (as i said at the top of the thread). Opinions cannot be false. Compare gdx to minicm7. What is the difference? Actually i found that gdx has a lot of missing features. FROYO has the same performance as gingerbread, and gb is more updated, so why bother with froyo. As i said in the thread, ics and jb have slow performance and that is why they are not in top 3. They probably would come in the top 10. For people who havent unlocked bootloader, they should look for another thread because i did say that they are all naa-14.
Guys, please re-read the forum rules again... "Best ROM/kernel/mod/.." threads are not allowed on xda

Thanks for your understanding
