Any suggestion for a good working Task Manager software?
THX so much!
I use Vidya Task Manager
Taskmanegement
I use the Wisbar Advence 2.4.1.9 beta from the forum. I like it.
I installed spb pocketplus 3.0 but it really slowed down my device. Resetting takes longer but also when answering an incoming call the device does not react for a couple of seconds so I am unable to answer the call during that time.
Anyone knows a lightweight 'real close button' application?
pocket plus - which version for universal ?
Hello, - which version of pocket plus you have managed to install? the only one which is working for me is 3006 beta. Official release does not want to install on the universal.
Re: Taskmanegement
@rilot
I have tried it too...but what about battery usage? Does it drain battery?
I have noticed that task manager applications, unfortunately, don't have any effect on "Ok" keyborad bottun functionality. So that you have always to use on screen command to close applications in background. Can You confirm this for Vidya Task Manager o does it improve "Ok" keyborad bottun functionality too ?
Ahhh. I thought you meant a task manager like Windows Task manager that shows all running processes.
For closing things using the OK button or the cross I use SPB Pocket Plus 3.0.
I stoppe SPB Beta 3 WM5
It slowed the phone way down, and was partly repsonsible for the Skype issues. It is deciving though because it seems to work at first look, but it is filled with Bugs. I am looking for another solution too.

ok but also Vidya Task Manager can close things...but have you verified if it acts on ok keyboard button too? I mean that if you push ok button to close an applications does it stay in background or does is it close it?

Version 3.something, I had no problems with the install. and the close button really closed the applications but the side-effects were not acceptable.
Alternatives please..
Does Vidya Task Manager adds 'real close' functionality to the X button (i don;t see it mentioned in the feature list)?

No, it's just a task manager.
MagicButton is quite good if you just want a close button and a simple task manager. It doesn't look quite right on WM5 but works just the same.

You're right; "It matches perfectly with the current theme." does not apply anymore but at least it does the job. Thanks for the tip. Btw, how many OS versions more before this comes standard integrated? Ever since my first Pocket PC this (real close button app) is always the first app I install. I just don't see the added value of keeping programs active in the background especially on devices with small footprints where memory must be used wisely, imagine Windows XP minimizing everything you 'close', makes no sense right?
re
well for a freebe magic button is OK but if I do a soft reset it doesn't reload itself, and i see no options to switch it to open on soft reset.
Any ideas ?
Cheers, Numb

create a shortcut, put it in \Windows\Startup folder

I didn't had this problem until today, I added the Memory monitors on Pocket Plus, and everythime I powered up my JasJar I had to wait 3 sec in order to use it, the same for calls, I removed
Memory Indicator
Storage Card 1 Indicator
Storage Indicator
Everything worked again.
Actually I am extremly pleased with SPB3
MagicButton is good, but it has a serious bug where eventually it will stop working and you can't close any open folders to get back to your Today screen - you have to reboot. They knew about it for a year now, but they never fixed it - unless they did so in the last month or so.
HandySwitcher is also great, but I noticed it doesn't always close the app, it just minimizes it. In the setup, the default is to tap on minimize, tap and hold to close. I always set it to do the reverse, tap->close, tap and hold->minimize. But I found that tapping did not close all the time, it just minimized it. If I went to memory manager and looked, the app was still running. I'd try again, still doesn't close. A third time, it finally does. Then I'd try the same test, it would close on the first try. Test again, the fourth try it closed. It was completely random. I don't think HandySwitcher is 100% compatible yet.
Hello,
I'm looking for a Task Manager which would allow me to shut down easily running applications without going to the Memory>Running Programs.
What are you using?
Waiting for your feedback.
Thanks.

there is a task switcher in SPB Plust software BUT READ the threads first as it can crash your device if you leave the safe mode utility running..
Hi,
I'm using "Magic button" on my K-JAM, it's light very functionally and free!!
It does not slow down the system and offer to you the ability to choose how many icons to show on the bar (today icon also) or to switch to classic bar simply tapping and hold the x icon.
Before I used wishbar, but due to the incompatibility with WM5 (for now) switched to it and was amazed by the lightness of the prg in memory.
If you want you can try it at www.trancreative.com
Please let me know what do you think about
Update: (from Trancreative site)
Very small foot print (memory usage). Only 71 KB executable file does it all (help file is 8 KB extra).
Cheers

pksmania: if you want very basic functionality, check out my app VJOKButt. It emulates the Ok button (top right), but can be used to close apps instead of minimising them. You don't get a task list menu etc (yet, but eventually I'll incorporate something like this maybe). But assign it to a hardware button and it's much quicker then taking out a stylus just to close an app.

I use vBar..
And I have Safe Mode from SPB PP switched on and it works fine..

I've spent the last few days learning TAPI so that the next version of VJOkButt can be used to replace the red key. Then it will hangup the phone if you're in a call, or otherwise close apps as we do now. So you don't lose a hardware key, you improve it. I hope! Next version hopefully coming quite soon.

Hi All,
I tried to get this tool working on my Spv M600 it closes programs but i want to switch between applications and i can't get this working is here anybody who knows how to get this working? how do i assign a button for closing the applications and another to switch between the applications?
thx in advance
Use latest PocketSwitcher v1.1. It works fine on my Dell Axim x51
I have used PocketSwitcher to switch and close applications with assigned buttons. Also, this version shows an icon on on the top taskbar. Tappping on this icon brings up a menu which lists all running apps. I can now switch to any application from here.
Needless to say, PocketSwitcher can close the application when X button is tapped, rather than minimizing it to the background by default. This is a cool feature.

hi friends, i hope its not a prob to discuss about another forum's application out here but just need urgent help.
i tried nuenobar ver. 1.3 on builds less dan 21000
and nuenobar ver. 2.2 on builds above 21000.
the problem is that i have set taskbar to close application on pressing the close button but when i do so, the application only gets minimised and doesnt close.
what to do cause when i remove nuenobar, everything becomes fine.

and i remember that this problem started from 2.03 and 2.04.
before that everything was fine till 1.97build
Possible solution: Advanced Configuration Tool
Have you tried Advanced Configuration Tool v3.3?
When opening Advanced configuration Tool go to 'HTC Task Manager' and set 'Auto Kill' to enabled.
Maybe this will work.

Yes, this is a known problem. I have contacted the developer about it, and he said he'd look into it. But it's been a while and haven't heard back anything. I'd recommend also contacting him through his homepage.
Sorry for this minor thread necromancy, but for windows mobile 6.5 21232 (Energy ROM v3 "phoenix") i found a workaround using homescreen ++ ui:
1. on settings/system/htc task manager/button switch "enable the "x" button to end..." OFF, but leave the "quick menu on today screen" on.
2. in homescreen ++ ui settings, in the "tools" tab, switch "enable taskmanager" OFF, then go to task manager settings and switch "close by tapping on x" On.
note: the homescreen ++ task manager theoretically is okay, but for me it got drawn into the battery icon making it unreadable.
3. Soft reset. At least for me this works.
Edit: Sorry, i just noticed i kind of misposted. i have a touch pro. but nonetheless this should work on the diamond as well.
Hey Guys,
I am on a project, " Titanium Taskbar "
Its a Titanium Panel which will be showing all the running programs and will make task switching easy..... What say ?
I would like some suggestions on how it should be so that the first release would be the best and final release.......
Make a wish and ......
Get back to me ......
Regards
1st & final Release... little bit difficult...also in a quite small Plugin - sometimes you get ideas, if you already see it.. and then Release 2 would come
But nice idea - here some proposals:
- No 24/7-Mortscript to check Task-State
- if possible no Background-Process at all (manual start/stop or update)
- Button-support (with JMLPanex) to have the ability to choose the Task you want to close / switch / refresh and some other Buttons for good handling in Titanium
- Showing "long info" from task (Path)
- Showing Memory Use and Number of Threads
- Showing CPU-Usage
- Warning if special predefined Tasks are running
- Close predefined Tasks by choosing from Menu
- Showing used Threads of a Task
- Showing Program-Icons of Tasks
- Sort Tasks by Name/MemUsage/CPUUsage
- See which Tasks are aligned with which Application (both directions)
- Easy to handle at all
- support for all Resolutions
- Language Support
So far the first ideas.
Looking forward to your work - thanks for this idea for a Plugin
Micha
I think that's a great idea! But, I haven't the slightest clue how to make a today plugin of any kind, so I don't think I can give you any technical advice, but I love the idea!
