Question about Booting SD Android Build - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I download many sd android builds. i first test test them on sd card then flash the nand one.
So here's my problem :
Every SD android build has some folder name (e.g ics, Android). when i boot those builds they boot normally, but when i change the folder name to something else, boot loop occurs. I even change the rel_path (in startup.txt) to the corresponding folder name, but to no use.
Help ?

Well i would suggest that you just flash the NAND roms. Why do u check them on the sd card first?

+1 it is easier to back up and restore and receive more accurate previews because there is a drastic difference

Well, thnx for the replies,
But I want to know why my problem occurs, anyway I would flash NAND roms.
If somebody could answer....

It's much faster and easier to change SD builds, and whilst they might not give as much speed, the general UI will be the same so it's perfectly worthwile.

Magldr SD booting ignores startup.txt. It could be that your new folder name contains more than 8 characters, or has symbols in it. Keep the name short and only use letters and numbers. Magldr also seems not to see the difference between upper and lower case letters.
Hope this helps

I have a few, at least 4~5 Andy SD Roms in my card & I just rename the Folder to whatever suits my naming needs just like the one in the attachment, don't go over 8 characters though & I use all CAPS to make more visible :silly:
But now I'm mostly on NAND

Yes but the purpose of the person is too check the rom. Im saying thats its not a good idea to check the rom by first using its sd card build

If MAGLDR ignores startup.txt, then what does it consider ?

I also use less than 8 chars, even then boot loop occurs.

[Q] Quick way to switch or change android builds?

Hi Therese! Is there a quick and safe way to change to a different android build without having to reinstall everything? Want to try a different one with the same apps and settings I already configured.
Thanks in advance!
NessD
You can rename your current android folder and then install a new one. I don't know about maintaining all your pages and settings. But the problem that you run into while installing multiple versions of android is that they may become corrupt and then you start getting SOD's and other errors.
(On a side note: Its been speculated that you can run scan disks on your sd card when it becomes corrupt. But this didn't fix my problem. SOOO, frustrated, I reformatted the SD card and started over. I've settled on Mattc's 1.7.)
I have tried a number of builds and Titanium backup/restore has always worked.

Will try that on the next run...so, what builds did work the best for you? More specifically: what gave you the best battery usage? Which roms did you use?
Desire based 2.2. Only minor glitches. All hardware functioning and battery indicator accurate. Two phones on one!

Could also grab a few cheap smaller SD cards & switch em out as needed, lesser card writes and should help with corruption, etc...
I was just about to ask this question, good news i guess. ive pretty much settled on froyosense 2.2 while i wait to see if we can get closer to a flashable rom (had it with winmob post using android for a month).
I just boot the phone into WinMo. Connect to computer. Copy all the folders that relate to Android. Then delete them from the SD card. Copy over the build I want to test and boot it up.
If I don't want to keep the new build, back to WinMo and computer. Then delete new build folders. Copy old folders back into place. Boot up again. As far as the old build is concerned, it was never removed.

Yeah, that's what I did now. I think, I found my favorite build. At least battery seems to be ok at the moment.

Hey all
I am sorry for sounding like a noob but do I delete "everything" off of the SD card and replace with other build or do I have to leave some files on for it to work right?
Or if it is of the same base build you can just copy your data.img.

[Q] Can I have more than one SD Build?

Hi, I have just setup dualboot of wp7 and americanandroid sd through magdlr, loving it, but would like to have even more choice, i.e. have more sd builds on my sd card, so can switch between say americanandroid and deshd build. Is that possible? Please advise...
Can I have more than 1 android folder on root of my sd card, e.g. Android1 for americanandroid and Android2 for deshd build, then boot into magdlr, and manually change the android folder under services to the one i want to boot...would that work?
I don't think MAGLDR has such an option built in. If you were using winmo then you could run different android builds off one sd card, but MAGLDR cannot.
Yes it would, you just need to edit the config.txt and change the rel path I think it is, as long as the folders are obviously named differently shouldn't be a problem, been ages since I even touched an SD build!

which config.txt file should i change? where can i find them in sd builds?
lol i know everyone uses nand builds nowadays, but been flashing and reflashing every single day, at least with sd, i can have wp7, cyanogenmod, deshd, and miui all in one, so no more flashing daily or rather hourly lol

Um let me try think lol.
I think in the folder usually called 'Android' it'll be in there. If you open that there will be a line saying something like rel_path=Android
If you change the folder to say Android1 and make the subsequent change to that in the config.txt it will then know to load all relevant info from that folder. If I was at my pc I'd happily try for you but currently in the local beer garden. Have a go and if no luck I'll look into it tomorrow evening for you after work and pm you all the necessary instructions.
On some buids, it's startup.txt instead of config.txt

[Q] Can no longer boot into android!

I've been putting of asking this question for the last few days, have read and searched as much of the forumn as I can and have tried various "solutions" with no luck.
The problem I seem to be having is that I can no longer boot into android, I have used the ameriCANdroid build and over the last month or so have been using ICS (NexusHD2-ICS-4.0.3-CM9-SD V1.2). I have had no problems loading into these builds, have been using them constantly with minor issues such as freezing.
The only thing I can figure thats changed is my SD card (sandisk 16gb sdhc), I copied the contents of my sd card onto my computer and formatted the card using the one of the recommended ones from this site, I have reformatted it twice after no luck on the first time I found recommended settings on this forum. The last format I formatted it as fat32 with 64kb cluster size. Still no luck.
I have tried using clean installs etc. and the two roms. I have left the roms to try and boot for a good half hour and over. the ICS rom will lod the green htc logo and the reboot into winmo, the ameriCANdroid stays on the first boot screen and doesnt move. have to reset/ pull battery. My winmo rom is the energy rom (which ive been using for atleast 12- 18months)
Any help would be appreciated!
Many thanks in advance.
did you happen to open rom zip file and do something? say change kernel etc?

Did u put the files in 'ICS' folder or android?

When I read about the adb tools i thought that was for magldr? or am i mistaken?
Thanks for your responses so far, much appreciated
Not sure how but I can now use android again, although my main issue is it crashes occasionally. All I did was remove everything from my sd card, then formatted with the phone this time, and only put the ICS folder back on the sd card to begin with. Took three attempts and it started to load. weird thing is i have to try and edit the name of the initrd.gz file in the phone which it wont allow me to but once Ive done that it starts loading into android fine. Thanks for your help guys. many thanks to the devs for such great work and for everyone contributing to what appears to be a friendly forum

HTC HD2 SD ROM Not Booting!

Hello, I am trying to dual boot Sense 3.5( and MyTouch4G ROM on my HTC HD2, the problem that I am having is that when I try to boot the the SD ROM it gets to the boot logo and then after 5 minutes or so it boots to Sense 3.5 ROM.
Device's/Software Being Used -
Windows 8 PC
Australian (512mb) HTC HD2
Original HTC HD2 Charging/Data Cord
MAGLDR
Sense 3.5 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1316632
MyTouch4g SD ROM - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1220151
Boot_Magldr.rar - Post 3 MyTouch ROM
Here are the steps that I have used to copy the ROM to my SD card
1.Download the Part 1 and Part 2.rar files and put them on my desktop.
2.Opened Part 1.rar and open the folder "BOXMAX.GTS.V3.0" and then opened the folder called "Android" and copied to SD
3.Opened Part 2.rar and copied files to the SAME Android folder on SD Card. When asked if I want to overwrite files I press no.
4. Open Boot_Magldr.rar and copied files to the SAME Android folder on SD Card. When Asked if I want to overwrite file I press yes.
5. Turn of HTC HD2 (512mb)
6. Boot To MAGLDR and do these steps
1. Go to Services
2. Go to Boot Settings
3. Go to AD SD Dir
4. Select Android folder
5. Select Boot AD SD
7. Wait for 4-5 minutes
8. Starts to boot to NAND ROM
9. Boots to NAND ROM
10. I reboot to try again
11. Repeat steps 8 (part 5) to 8
12. BOOT LOOP
Please Help, I will/have tried to be as descriptive as possible

I think it's to do with the same kernel being used for the NAND and SD builds. I haven't read much about it but earlier there was a thread in the Q&A in which a dev explained it (think it was 3dak) and you're going to have to use another build with an SD kernel such as Hastarin 8.6

Now how exactly do I do that?
some of the SD build booting will be influenced by NAND build
maybe you can ask the chief about your system. But I think you can verify this by empty your nand, then see if the SD build gets normal.

Not much point, this is pretty much certainly your issue. And OP, just use a different build

Another build of the Glacier ROM, what one would you recommend, I'm so new to the HTC HD2 stuff its so different for the Motorola Atrix

No, another ROM completely is what I meant, such as MCCM's or something. Dunno what the good SD builds are now but MCCM's used to be the best. However, if you look through the changelog for the glacier ROM and see that the kernel was changed somewhere, try using that older version with the different kernel and see if it works.
Also, a bit off topic but how good is the Atrix? My friend is getting one and he wants to know if it's a good choice, he probably won't flash anything to it though.

Booting sense on SD boots up sense rom on nand

I don't know whats going wrong but whenever i put this sense rom by Mccm (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1289477) on the root of my sd card and boot using option 2. on Magldr after the boot logo it boots the sense rom on nand from the boot animation... And i am on the nand rom now
P.S. i m using Sense Energy Rom on nand
On the other hand non-sense android roms are booting perfectly from the sd card
Is there anyone who knows whats gone wrong?

was the correct name given in option #10 for the sense SD-ROM? I also have both ICS rom, same built, in nand & SD but no problem here

I think what mengfei means is to check that the folder name in services>boot sources>AD SD Dir is correct. Also make sure that the the rel_path of the SD build is correct.

If you open your SD folder, there should be a file called 'startup.txt'. If you open this with notepad, you will find a line saying 'rel_path=.......'. After the = should be exactly the same name as the name of the folder that your SD ROM is stored in, i.e. if the folder is named Android, the line should read rel_path=Android.
