You don't need to delete the current one.... If it is not in a zip format and is in a recovery.IMG format instead the just use adb and type
fastboot flash recovery /path/to/<recovery>.img
And just replace the /path/to <recovery>.img with the location and name of your recovery image and your good

Now I can only use other 3rd party recovery such as Recovery-v0.3.2.8-beta ...and restore Zip files format.....
Have you tried flashing the recovery.img and the corressponding rom image?
You can get these from the wiki
If all else fails, and you cannot recover using fastboot etc, then try QDLTool again from the wiki

Normally installing stock ROM will cure most things unless you have internal issues.
Flash stock recovery.img for the stock ROM you want to get back to... I would suggest 360. You should already have downloaded the stock ROM update.pkg file that corresponds to the stock recovery.img you flashed in fastboot. Make sure you don't have any other files on the root of your SD that conflict with you update.pkg and MOST importantly, make sure it's named "update.pkg"
Boot into recovery and choose option 2 to update. IF it gets stuck (now this first boot after installing stock ROM may take 20 minutes or so), then pull the battery, boot into recovery, and choose to do a factory reset again
Hi guys
I'm hoping somebody could please help me with my somewhat-bricked device..bricked in the sense that I don't know what to do with it. (i'm a noob to this). I've tried installing a custom rom and completely screwed up my dell streak 5.
So the phone doesn't boot anymore and just takes me to the option to install update.pkg off the sd card. I added the file along with recovery.img to the sd card.
360 17397 00 May 31, 2011 PKG Recovery Hash Latest Retail rom
My problem is that I cannot for whatever reason get Flashboot to work in order to flash the recovery.img first. under device manager you see android phone/android adb interface but still can't manage the connection to use cmd prompt/fastboot.
Is there any other way of getting the recovery.img to work without fastboot/thru the sd card. I have no idea what i'm doing anymore. I've tried installing the update.pkg but after installation it just stays on the dell logo loading screen forever.
PLEASE help if you can.
Try QDLTool

once in fastboot your command line is
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (will take just about 3 or 4 seconds then type)
fastboot reboot (it will begin to reboot and you should press the volume up and down keys to get into recovery, you should already have the package on your sd card, choose option 2 to update... if it hangs, you don't have to flash recovery again, just boot into recovery and try a factory reset, if it hangs, well flash the ROM again

What kind of recovery are you using? If you are using stock recovery. Just use add sideload. If you are using TWRP. Then go to fastboot and flash the stock recovery. You can find the stock recovery in the rom downloaded from Asus : https://www.asus.com/Phone/ZenFone_5_A500CG/HelpDesk_Download/. Version 2.22.40.540 is recommended
i use twrp and adb sideload and recovery mode not working

I can't understand what you mean. If you want to install stock rom from TWRP recovery, you have to modify updater-skript.
Why do you can install only the twrp recovery 2.8.7.7, when we have the twrp recovery 3.0.0.2
File img you can flash from fastboot mode. Commands:
fastboot flash system file.img
fastboot flash recovery file.img
fastboot flash boot file.img
or
fastboot boot file.img for example twrp recovery img or stock recovery img. This is command for once booting.
I want to return to original firmware , i download it from the site of asus. So, i booted twrp in fastboot mode (i tried different version of twrp, but the only that starts is the 2.8.7.7 version) using adb.
Now i am in recovery with twrp 2.8.7.7. I can push using .zip files or img files on internal storage.
But i have different problems with this recovery:
IF i use wipe function: error opening sys, could not mount, enabe to mount, ... (failed)
If i install rom or firmware with zip files: error unable to mount, unable to find partition for path.... (failed)
Adb sideload goes failed too.
What should i do???
I think that the problem is in the internal partition... I have to install using a min usb ext storage? or what????? thanks :fingers-crossed:

Easiest way to fix your phone is flash stock rom from stock recovery. Stock rom put to sd card. Reboot to stock recovery and choose flash rom from sd card. New version number system must be the same or higher than installed in the phone.
Do you want to return to the lower version of Android.

If you haven't installed stock recovery, it's not no problem. You can it flash from fastboot mode.

How did you flash the file twrp.img.
OK guys I've solved the problem. I moved in this way:
1) Volume up + power to go in fastboot mode
2) after installing adb and the other drivers, i've insered these commands:
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase system
3) after downloading twrp version 3.0.0 (for the zenfone 2 laser), I load it using the command "fastboot boot (name file twrp).zip"
4) the recovery starts automatically. Now i downloaded the file "back2stock.zip" and the original firmware (WW, worldwide) form the official site of the Asus
5) this passage is the most important:using 7zip I've extracted the file zip of the firmware and the backtostock, then i created a new file using 7zip : in this new zip i've loaded the files inside back2stock and the files file_contentexts, system.new.dat, system.patch.dat, boot.img e system.trasfer.list inside the zip of the official firmware
6) I've loaded this new file on the phone using the command "adb push (new file name).zip /"
7) at last i have installed this file on the phone ENJOY it
Hi,
I made this post/thread because i couldn't find a solution to my problem through this forum and google.
Here is my trouble:
I was trying to install a twrp recovery and was following the instructions of a tutorial.
-So first i installed flashify and proceeded to a back up of the current kernel and current recovery
-Then downloaded a custom recovery image through TWRP release for my nexus 4
-After this i accidentally flashed the recovery image to boot instead of recovery
Now as you can guess the trouble is that my phone only boots to TWRP recovery instead of usual boot.
I tried to find aswers on this forum and google and yet i didn't find a solution.
I tried this post but without results:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-g3/general/fix-recovery-loop-twrp-computer-t2873386
I would be grateful for any help and wish to recover this mistake without using a factory reset if possible.
Thank you, as you can see i am pretty new to this environment.
Can you get into fastboot mode? If yes, try flashing a stock Google rom and perform a factory wipe after installing the stock rom.

Thank you for your answer, yes i can get into fastboost mode. As i am pretty new can you explain me how i can flash the stock Google rom (i guess it is the factory rom provided ?). Will this operation erase my data on the phone ?
Boot into fastboot and flash boot.img and recovery.img file from stock rom. Make sure you use the stock rom that matches the rom currently installed on your phone.

Once in fastboot, extract the downloaded zip you got from Google. There you will find flash-all.bat Execute it as admin and wait. If it doesn't work, then extract the zip within the first zip and you should get loads of .img files. You will manually have to flash them. The commands are a bit different for each partition. They go like this:
Code:
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery. img
fastboot flash cache cache.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash data userdata.img
Note that if your cmd/terminal isn't open from the directory where the files are you will have to input it's location, for example
Code:
fastboot flash recovery C:\Users\YOURUSER\Desktop\recovery.img
Also note that there must be no spaces neither in the file name or the directories where the file is located, otherwise it probably won't flash.
Also yes, doing this will completely revert you to stock, and you WILL loose all your data. You could try just reflashing recovery.img and then flashing TWRP over it. If you can get to TWRP after this, then connect the USB cable to your PC and transfer all the data you need, after which I recommend flashing to stock. You can root and/or flash custom ROMs after this.
However in your case I think you don't have to completely go back to stock. Just try flashing the proper boot and recovery images over fastboot like I explained above and try booting then.

Thanks to both of you I managed to fix this just by flashing the boot.img of the Google factory img. It didn't erase my data except my messages which is nice.
Hi guys .... every time I try to flash twrp.img via fastboot it says successful but when I boot into recovery I find it the stock one ... does anyone know what's wrong ??
ps : when I enter "fastboot boot twrp.img" it boots very well into twrp...but when I enter "fastboot flash twrp.img" it doesn't flash the new recovery .
Download required files from downloads
Unlock your bootloader( u must be unrooted)
Reboot to bootloader
fastboot boot recovery.img
flash twp-installer.zip
reboot to recovery and check if twrp is there
, if not (100% chances)
Reboot to bootloader
fastboot set_active b (I am assuming you are on slot a, else use fastboot set_active a or you can change slot on twrp itself)
fastboot boot twp.img
flash twp-installer.zip
reboot to recovery
Success

If I try to fastboot boot recovery.img (twrp 3.1.1.0) then the device boots up instead going to TWRP recovery. I can boot only in newest TWRP 3.2 but cant flash anything from it. Try a clean flash of a stock rom, fastboot image of your choice, after that try the twrp boot and flash again. May there's something corrupt on your phones.

Download the files provided above and follow the same method as given by the OP.
By that recovery image , ur system internal memory will be accessable and u will be able to copy the twrp installer zip file in internal memory of phone .
Once done that , flash in both partitions and you are good to go.
THIS ONLY WORKS FOR OREO STABLE.
I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY KINDA OF DAMAGE DONE TO YOUR PHONE , so be aware and know about what u r going to do.
just use these files , but follow the same steps as u did before
