Totallyyy heavily confused between s3 and note ! !

Hey guys i need your help urgently ! !
I am in a big trouble of buying a smartphone.My 2 choices are galaxy s3 and note.
these are the points that i like about each:-
galaxy s3:-
1.Best performance
2.Lots of added features
3.one of the best camera with burst mode too
4.Great battery life
5.WOLFSON
galaxy note:-
1.bigger better screen imo(its brightness is about 100 cd/m2 more than s3)
I know that s3's ppi is better but that mere 15ppi doesnt mean anything to me
2.Its by far much better looking than s3
3.spen
My main reason for loving the note more than the s3 is its SCREEN.Its sooo bigger and hence better for browsing,gaming,movies etc.
So here my maib questions are:-
1.Is the performance soo much better on s3 than note,specially the gpu?
because i love gaming and the gpu performance is what i need the most ! !
2.I heard and have seen that the ui of s3 so fluent that its now on par with iphone?Then how will be the ui of note?
3.how will be the browser comparision between s3 and note?
I am in hurry for gettibg one because in india we have some offer for note,in which samsung gives sennhieser headphone,flip cover,3000(60usd) games totally for free and this offer experies on 31st may.So what to choose?Even the note 2 will be launched in may be september,so is buying note good idea?

Get note if u want a larger screen and the fns of an s pen
Else go for s3

once you use the note you cannot go back to a smaller screen. if you ain't used to the note's screen, go with the s3, it's much better spec'd. you'll need it!

For gaming, the S3 or xperia play (i love mine)
For anything else, galaxy note.
(I think they have the same camera hardware, and software features will probably be ported.)

According to several reviews, all too often you won't even feel the benefit of the quad cores on the s3. It has same pentile Amoled type screen as Note (except it is much larger on Note). Plus, this whole 'inspired by nature' thing just seems a little too desperate a marketing technique for me (imho). I would go for the Note.
Best idea maybe would be to maybe have a half hour play with both in a highstreet store when s3 is released, to make your own mind up...before choosing the Note ;-)

Well if you're considering the S3, why not through the HTC One X into the equation?
Although I love the idea of having the best specs, I doubt I would be able to tell the difference in terms of CPU (HTC One X and S3 being QUAD core) and RAM as all of the devices seem quite comparable and I haven't noticed any QUAD optimised apps yet, so I would think the user experience for me would be more important.
For me, personally, it comes down to mainly the following:
1. Cost (The Galaxy Note is a bargain right now - I paid £550 in November 2011)
2. Screen Size (I love the Notes Screen and don't think I could go any smaller)
3. UI and Battery Life (From my experience HTC smart phones have crap battery!!! I have owned a HTC Desire, HTC Desire HD and a bag of pre-Android HTC phones)
4. Longevity of the Device (Life-span for updates eg. although the Galaxy Note came out on GB I still bought it because I feel that it will continue to be supported for a while due to the device being an important milestone for Samsung. I'm hoping to get two updates out of the Note and when it stops being supported officially, I'm sure there will be some unofficial updates, or I trade-in for a Galaxy Note 2!!!)

It really depends what you prefer, or how you prefer things to be done with the device.
For me the only upgrade for the Note would be the Note 2, as the S3 which was very tempting for me too (some special features, Quadcore (just because I'm a bit freakish 'bout hardware and not because I really need it ^^) in the end has no S-Pen (bad for me, I hate browsing the internet without it) and is too small (tried that size and I don't want anything smaller than 5,3 inches). Also I do not need the new hardware as I don't play 3D-games or other intense graphics stuff with the device, and the CPU/GPU of the Note is far away from limiting anything for me.

This is from the perspective of someone who owns a note and is not looking to buy SGS3.
Wait until you can have a "hands on" play with the SGS3. For me, I can't see the benefits of the processor so I won't buy one.
However - I am frustrated with the note's ability to play back movies. I am not really a person who uses the note much for watching media... but the black clipping issue frustrates me nonetheless.
If I was an avid movie/tv watcher, the issues with the note would be unacceptable.
In summary:
a) wait to play with SGS3 and get comments on video playback quality.
b) if you are a movie/audiophile, buy SGS3 if video playback is good.
c) if not, buy the note.

The note is a like a drug. If you use it, you will NEVER use a smaller screen again... so your big decision here is, do you want your friends saying, "Yo, pull your laptop out and bring up those pics you took" Lol. I think its by far a great phone, and spec wise, I play lots of games on it, its probably not "as" smooth for gaming as what the sgs3 will be so if that's a big deal you might lean that way, but everything else...note rules.

Get the Note if you are comfortable with the size of this device.

I don't see any reason to get confused at all. First of all how could you compare a product which is selling currently(whose performance is well known) with a product yet to be released(whose performance is not known)?. Both of them maybe from same company but targeted at different category of people. If your aim is to update yourself with the latest gadget in the market no matter what then you may go for S3....If you need a phone which can satisfy your needs then that's a different question....Note is for people who need a smartphone with extended options of a tablet but don't want to carry a typical tablet in their brief case.....But once you get used to it all other phones look like cute little toys to you.....I can surely bet that Galaxy Note can handle all high end graphics games, high quality video streaming etc etc and you will just love its performance...Obviously a bigger screen means better visibility, more details on the screen etc etc...So now you decide and act....Best of luck...

i waited for months before buying my note as i was waiting 4 s3 launch
man i bought my note just after seeing s3 live release on facebook
see we dont need quad core processors right now dual core s enough, i might have opted for s3 if it had a 12mp cam but its cam is still same as note's
and plz keep this in mind if it uses camera to see your eyes movement then its gonna take lot of battery which is 2100 mah compare to note's 2500 mah (sorry if m wrong)
plus the biggest problem is its ugly design... man note is sexy
the only plus option is quad core and nothing else..rest everything is software based like there was siri on 4s (not worth updating)
if u wanna wait for note 2 its ur choice but u never knw they might give note 2 same design as they gave to s3

yeh s3 looks amazing, but i rather wait for note 2 with those all features and screen size will be same or even a bit bigger

The key word is "in a hurry"... so if 90% of the ppl ask u to buy s3, u will give up the promo? C'mon... u had ur answer yourself already...

The N7000 has 10% (102400) more pixels (which naturally also consume power in terms of physical constraints on efficiency - depending on the display technology and of course computing power).
The diagonal often does not reflect screen size all that well, and has probably a historic basis (back when the only relevant viewing ratio was 4:3). You should consider a phone's display technology (and energy consumption), dpi, size and screen ratio.
If you write a lot, get the GN1, if you use your Note more for entertainment consider the GN2.
The Note 1 has 1 GB ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1517200 ), the Note 2 has 2 GB of RAM. With Android becoming a flagship project and rapidly advancing software this is no longer sufficient. Restarting applications impacts CPU load, and thus the user experience and battery life.

You should get you facts straight before posting.
The screen on both devices are not exactly the same as you mentioned, they are different in sizes, resolution and more importantly pixel arrangement, making the screen of the GNote 2 sharper even with lower resolution. And no more black clipping !
And they don't have the same processor as you mentioned...the note 1 got a dual core and not a quadcore one
Not to mention the Note 2 is way more energy efficient so it's better aall the way, doesn't matter if are a gamer or a writer or whatever
The only thing to consider between these two devices is the price, that's all

I have to agree with OP. Of course, it's always nice to upgrade if you have the money. But I actually used both Notes 1 & 2 and this is what i have to say about them:
Screen on Note 2 actually looks smaller. That's just an illusion caused by the phone's dimensions and screen ratio of course. Can't agree that Note 2 has sharper screen etc. to me they look exactly the same.
As for black clipping - that's probably the biggest difference between them, although i'm not so sure it's a hardware problem... it's present on Note, S2 and S3 - I've also seen it on Note 2 - it's better, but it's still there.
As far as CPU is considered - the OP mentioned that Note 2 "doubled" it's CPU power - which is also not really true. Going from 2 cores to 4 cores doesn't mean an instant 100% performance boost. It is much faster, but bear in mind that both devices run THE SAME MALI GPU. It's like putting new CPU in an old PC - it will run better, but don't expect FPS-miracles.
My conclusion:
1. Note 2 is great, if you have spare money and feel like upgrading - go for it, we'll all do it someday, but...
2. ...don't feel "left out" with your Note 1 because it's still a more-than-great device and for most of us Note 2 has nothing that requires an immediate upgrade if you don't have any spare cash for Samsung.

I actually prefer the looks of the Note 1 to the Note 2, For me, the Note 2 looks like an oversized Galaxy S3.
And my Note has no lag, I can play all the latest titles and have great graphics. For me, the Note 2 isn't a worthy upgrade from the Note 1.
I'll be sticking with my Note 1 until the release of the Note 3 (or some other similar device from a different manufacturer)

We badly need adev to come up with a oc kernel that we can use 2sd on. Loved it b4 jb, for the ram boost. Made a lot of difference.
The note 2 is not worth buying in the uk due to lack of 4g.
I'll wait as you said there is nothing wrong with the note one.
There are too many blogs, sites like cnet,etc, in the pocket of oems, to make us feel as if we are missing out.

Same here. S3/Note 2 look good, but i really prefer S2/Note 1 design.

Once again , it's not about preferences, or which one to buy our how deep your pocket is...
It's about OP giving wrong technical info.
Just see the review I posted on second post of this thread and make up your mind
If I could not sell my Note 1 as good as I did, I would probably have not bought the Note 2 cause I was satisfied with it too
But I did and now I am more than happy with my Note2
It's already kicking it out of the box!
Hardware-and softwarewise, amazing features (see the video)
And that large battery makes a large difference too!

@betoNL. You corrected me. It is a community. I'd like to think, that everyone chimes in, in his own unique way.
I for one consider the N1 not a full upgrade but an expansion of Samsung's product line.

My thoughts on upgrading
Hi all, I would like to add my 2 Euro cents to this discussion. First of all I only own the Original Note (N7000), which is why I can't comment specificity on the Note 2 (N7100) but I would like to say something that might not have been brought up before.
With the holidays season coming, and with some frustration with the battery of my Note 1 (not claiming it is not good, as it is better than any smartphone I had before it), but still when reading a lot or taking notes I find that I get a bit worried when I am in a train or at a long meeting if it will last. It usually does, but still the extra peace of mind would do wonders for me. The only thing that I turn off (because I never use it) is bluetooth the rest is ON 99% of the time (my use pattern).
I bought my Note because of the possibility to take notes during meetings, but I find the device to be average at it. With the ICS upgrade it became much better (smoother) but still it is not as good as I would like it to be.
That is why I would like to know if the Note 2 has improved in this matter. If anyone that has tried them both could let me know, I would appreciate it.
Now for what I consider before I upgrade.
1) Is the device still supported and how long will it still be supported (officially, but most importantly by the XDA community)?
- in this the original Note had some problems due to the brick bug, which I blame for many good developers moving to a different device (it has been solved with the safe Kernels, but the harm has already been done).
2) Does it perform well in everyday tasks? Are there any tasks which I would find useful that it can't perform?
- So far the original Note has done a very well job at it. I can't think of anything that I could not do with it. Maybe the NFC chip would have been a nice addition as my mother's Galaxy S2 has one. But the important question for me is how much did the S Pen function improve from the N7000 to N7100 (feel free to come back with your thoughts)
3) Market value. (buying now Vs waiting for something else to come).
- Well maybe because I studied Management I always think of how much it is worth (2nd hand value) and compare it to the price of the next generation one.
As I am not rich (middle class income) I can't go and buy them as soon as they are released. That is why patience and good price searching are essential. As I look at it, Galaxy Note 2 is now priced new for 499 EUR. This is quite a drop from the 650-700 EUR I have seen it 3 months ago.
The original Note can still be sold for about 310-330 EUR (in a very good physical condition), all the original accessories and maybe a protective case and some screen protects, so I am seeing the upgrade would now cost me about 150-170 EUR depending on the selling price. That is not bad, in my perspective.
The real question is what will happen to the price of the original Note with the constant release of new devices by the competition. You have the Galaxy Note 2, but also the Nexus 4, HTC, LG and others are also launching bigger and better devices.
We can no longer claim it has the biggest screen and even normal smartphones (not phablets) are coming close the 5 inches. We can't claim the best battery life, as even the Galaxy S3 with its 2100 mah battery has better mileage (of course smaller screen, lower resolution and more efficient components have an impact).
And many of the good developers have already moved to the Note II, or if they did not move, they own one already and are actively developing on it.
All this makes me wonder if sticking with the original Note will makes sence, or if it will loose so much value that when something really cool comes (let's say that the Note 3 will be a huge upgrade) it will hurt my wallet almost as much as it did when I bought this one.
Sorry for the long post but these are my thoughts, feel free to come and bring your points of view on this topic.

with 16gb of memory and no micro SD??
I doubt it... decent games these days take up gigs of space... you'd be lucky to fit 3 or 4 on one of those.

The screen sizes do, whilst not by vast amounts, differ as do the processors. The Note 2 is superior in every imaginable way, but at the same time not a worthwhile upgrade in my opinion. Many of its software features are getting ported over with the upcoming Jelly Bean update, so only upgrade if you really want quad-core performance.

Both phones deffer in the conception - GN1 is phoneblet while GN2 is oversized phone. If you compare them in landscape mode the difference in the aspect ratio is eye pocking ...
But anyway - i wanted to understand which is the game from the first set of screenshots?

I can't see upgrading just for single gen bump in processor right now. The GN1 is plenty fast for everything right now. The new aspect ratio is a downgrade in my opinion. Its only 32px, but its the difference between a standard tablet res, and saying without the 800px design of some websites. Of course if I were buying new I'd still get a gn2, but I'll wait for the gn3.

I can second the statemet that the Note 2 is no worth updating if one already owns a Note. But I have to add that the OP just wrote down a list of incorrect or plainly false technical specs. Almost every word he wrote down about specs of the Note 2 is simply no true. It's not the same processor, the screens are very different (not the same technology).... Even though his intent was to help people decide which device they should buy he really should have read more before he posted.

If one wants to upgrade or not, that's totally personal....
I made somebody very happy, by selling my Note1 to Him for 300 €
I sold another gps device taht was collecting dust in the drawer and only then, got me a Note 2
So me, myself and I , am also very happy with the Note2

Bought GN2 after 1month gave it to my wife took back my precious GN1
GN2 is a great device its almost perfect that u don't even think u need to root it . Screen is better, processor is faster, s-pen smoother ( but use GN2 pen on GN1 screen u will have same performance) and last even the quality of sound when u do voice call is better.
All these stuff i don't give a sh*** about it coz the screen is squeezed and it's annoying while reading in landscape mode and even keyboard become small and its hard to type during landscape mode

I haven't said a single word about pixels, ppi, resolution, screen tech etc. I'm talking about aspect ratio - 16:9 vs 16:10. Which does not have to do with anything else but the width vs height ratio.

Except the screen. Believe it or not, but I do not want to sacrifice those 80 pixels. I generally zoom to pixel perfection within a pdf and then continue on reading at the zoom-level. I also considered it more spacious for taking notes on the go. I like to read page by page, not zoomed in paragraph by paragraph.
The Note 2 wouldn't even have made it onto my radar, had it not been for the insanely cool SPen functions and Wacom typical hover: A precision input device with hover is the minimum requirement for serious Remote desktop-ing.

Prior to that I read up on pentile displays, and that it is not for cost but energy efficiency.

I doubt the galaxy s4 having the octacore chipset because it has overheating issues and I'd love to see the super amoled display but it's an upcoming technology which couldn't even give a non pentile display for the s3 at that time

Less colour shift at wide viewing angles, improved colour accuracy and the possibility to calibrate the screen are more important towards better screens than ppi count.

I wish manufacturers had stopped this pointless pixel race already and took steps to really improve image quality - bigger sensors for starters, improved quality in low light, better quality optics, etc. Oh, and is it so hard to put a physical shutter button on the phone? It is not like space is lacking...

Yeah i agree with you, the s4 might pack the exynos 5440 quadcore chipset and the note 3 will feature the octacore i suppose
I absolutely loved the physical shutter button on the older phones and its more of a daily use thing when you got 5"+ phones, would love to see a shutter button like the lock button on the xperia z
Samsung hopefully will pull a rabbit out of the hat in its march event because after looking at other devices like the xperia z, optimus g pro, htc one and Tegra 4 chipset i doubt it that Samsung will continue its reign in the smartphone world due to no INNOVATION

Just ordered a Note 2 because i hate LCD. These 1080p LCD's are epic failures. Colours suck and so does the power usage from the LED's needed to keep the brightness up.
I find it hard to believe their "accuracy" is good because who would make their colours so bland and boring.
Im going to the note 2 with 2 spare batteries a charging stand and 64GB SD Card. Turn the brightness up to 100% and enjoy this phone to the full.
Im sick and tired of being conservative with these crap sealed battery phones with LCD screens running the brightness at 10% to get through the day.

If I were you I wouldn't rush buying that spare battery. I too was a spare battery advocate until I bought the Note 2. However, with the Note 2 I never felt the need for a spare battery. The battery life is really impressive. Try the phone for a month before you make a decision. You'll be surprise with the amount of juice the Note 2's battery packs.

i got 2 batteries for £8. So its not much of a risk. Ill keep one in the car and one on the stand and one in the phone and ill never have to touch a charger again.

Perhaps it's better to wait until the S4 is officially announced before making your decision? I'm not a particular fan of lcd either but there's no concrete evidence behind these rumours.

I tested a Mega 6.3 today and thought it was awesome... the screen is massive and performance seems to be on par with the N2. If the N3 turns out to only get a 5,7" screen I might get the Mega instead.

If you look at the benchmarks, the Mega 6.3 beats the Note 2 more often than not. People get too caught up in dual-core versus quad-core; the latter isn't automatically more powerful.
However I expect the Note 3 will thrash the Mega in benchmarks not to mention pixel density.

It annoys me a bit that you try to "defend" the telephone you have purchased and are not willing to read new reviews or listen to user reviews from people who own both the N2 and the Mega.
I'm happy with my N2 but haven't closed my eyes to alternatives by any means.

A review is a review...thats it. Just because a user reviews something, does not mean that is everybody's opinion. The Mega is cheaper than the Note 2 for a very simple reason....it IS NOT the same quality, nor does it outperform it. Those that are on their soap boxes "bigging it up", are obviously taken in by the screen size. I have both, a Note 2 for personal use, and I have a Mega as a test piece for work. Its like saying a Ford Fiesta can outrun a Ferrari...they both have four wheels and an engine....but I know which I would rather drive.
Both these phones are excellent for different reasons....but as a straight forward comparison....Note 2 shows it a clean pair of heels by a country mile.:good:

Mega 6.3 is mid. Note II top. Mega its sux for me, very big, not top performance only 1,5 gb ram. Wait Note 3 or buy S4 or Xperia Z Ultra.
This reviews is not accuracy however your decision.

Correction: Note2 is last year's flagship, Mega is midrange of 2013 which is pretty much on par with the N2 give or take.
Well well... I've had both Note1 and Note2 mainly because they had the biggest available displays at the time and while some people say 6,3" sux because of its size you also have people that say the Note2 sux for the very same reason. As long as the device fits in MY pockets then I'M happy.
I enjoy my Note2 (and I enjoyed my Note1, S2, HD2 and E90 before that... all flagships of their time) and if somebody feels offended because cheaper phones can perform as well or better than the Note2... well that's not my problem I'm just sharing my findings with other "big screen freaks" like myself.

I hear you... I have very seriously considered the Mega 6.3 but in the end I gave up because of the RAM. The way I use my smartphone, less than 2GB RAM is, sadly, a deal breaker.
You are taken by the display size and I can perfectly understand you (I myself was quite ready to DOWNGRADE from a Note II to the Mega 6.3 just because of its display size), but you have to admit that the Mega is worse than the Note II in practically everything else... (display quality included: by all accounts the Mega's display is pretty good but I simply love AMOLED displays).
So yes, it most definitely has lower specs all around but had it had 2GB RAM I would be toting a Mega 6.3 now...

Nops. Note 2 ís top today until release Note 3. It´s flagship. Mega Midrange. Very Lost features. I will never buy this Mega for all reasons. Note 2 ís big but Mega is very big as Xperia Z Ultra. Note 2 beats Mega 6.3 all features. Forget it and wait or buy another phablet.

Android 4.2.2 is point of favor. Note 2 is 4.1.2 ....Adreno 305 is weak. I explained there was syntetic benchmarks. Galaxy Gran Duos 55fps in Epic Citadel in low resolution and? No more. Galaxy Mega is big size too much for only 720p.

Thanks for the link landeiro... I like how the Mega can fit more content on the screen... see how the benchmark progress bar fill almost half the screen on the N2 while it only occupies a fraction of the Mega's screen leaving lots of space for more info. The actual benchmark result doesn't mean much to me since they seem to behave about the same when being handled by the user. Besides I spend 95% on my N2 surfing the web and the Mega seems plenty fast enough for that.

The 24bit/92 Khz is totally irrelevant, since no one can hear the difference, 3200 mhA is below expectations (4 hours more is, more likely than not, BS), 3 GB RAM is standard nowadays in top of the line phones, 13 MP camera unneeded and probably detrimental to low light image quality and 4k video recording irrelevant to 99% of users since 4k TVs and monitors still cost an arm and a leg.
Oh, and moving from 5.5" to 5.7" doesn't make a difference in real life use.
As for software, thank you for bringing it to the Note II also, which I intend to keep until the note IV is released.

You said that, not Samsung. The only thing Samsung said is that the three devices you mentioned will receive an update in October that will let them support the Galaxy Gear. What's in the update is pure speculation at this point. I'd also highly doubt that Exynos Quad and 2GB of RAM will be able to run all the new multitasking features shown on the S-800/Octa 3GB N3 and Note 10.1 2014. I'm also concerned about S Pen compatibility between the "old" S Pen and the "new" S Pen they were talking about at the launch. I also wonder if the new S Note app will be backwardly compatible.
Just more to speculate about and a reason for people to open another dozen new “update” threads.

COMPLETELY WRONG. Note III is the first to implement a 3 GB RAM.

I think they said it will have 4 more hours of video playback not 40% better battery.
EDIT:
For me note 3 seems to be a well worthy upgrade.
Larger screen while thinner and lighter and maintaining same size.
Better camera.
Better material used (the back cover does not have the glare and fingerprint problems as the glossy plastic used in all previous phones and according to most reviews it feels better)
A little bit bigger battery
Much better screen (higher resolution, looks like the gs4 screen which received very good praise)
It will have an IR blaster? (not sure about this point, but I assume it does since gas4 has it)
Better software (that launching application in a floating box looks awesome, and they can be minimized)
It has USB 3.0? Isn't that like 10x faster transfer rate?
3gb ram and better processor (not sure if that will make a difference though in practical use)
The standard space is 32GB now, that means coupled with 64gb sd card, you will have a total of 96GB, which i enough for any person I imagine.
S-pen seems to be improved, although to be fair I was never a big s-pen user.
Only thing is missing is front speakers like the htc one, then it might have been the perfect phone.

@all the thread to get feedback of what you people think about note 3 after it unviels so we can share whats the pro and negative of the device note3 or rather ppl will expect more from samsung and choose another from over note3

Don't generalize, many people actually can hear the difference in audio, 3gb ATM is not a standard as many of the rumored or just announced smartphone are 2gb, the 13mpx camera is a big improvement as seen in the sgs4(one of the best android camera in a phone), and 4k recording gives you a "lossless" zoom quality plus probably 4k will become a standard in some years and early support is nice, plus it have the microusb 3.0 and best display and HW announced.
I think it's a great device, probably my next one.
