USB Ethernet Adapter - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have just got an USB Ethernet Adapter which works very well with my Nexus 7. Plugged it in and I can enjoy very good internet browsing.
The only problem that I can do nothing with the connection. There's no way to turn on/off the connection and configure the IP address/settings like we can do with Wi-fi.
Is there any way to enable Ethernet UI under Settings permanently? Or is there any app to do that?
Thanks

Nope, there is no way to configure static IP for ethernet on the Nexus tablets. You have to set static IP in your router for nexus tablets using ethernet adapters.

Ethernet via USB on the A500?

Can it be done?
I travel a lot and use my laptop to get the ethernet IP address from my hotel room in order to manually configure my xbox 360's network settings. (I have an older Xbox 360 without wireless).
Since the hotel ip addresses are different for the ethernet connection than the wireless ip's, how can I figure out the ethernet IP using the A500?
The only thing that I can think of is to carry a small wireless router around. As a bonus it would be handy for the hotel that has sporadic wireless coverage.
I have no idea if an ethernet usb dongle stabbed into the A500s side would work.
Good luck.
Yeah. I have been looking into getting a wireless adapter for the 360 but they seem to be very device specific for Microsoft. I did see something that transmits an ethernet signal across your wall's electrical lines. It was about $60 for that kit and the reviews indicated good speeds.
If I had that though, I would still need to figure out the ethernet IP settings somehow. I am trying to figure out a way to leave my laptop at home when I travel now that I have my tab.
Get a cheap router than can run dd-wrt router firmware and set it up an ethernet bridge. Works like a charm for the x-box (or anything needing a wired connection and connecting to wireless).
Just to elaborate where this is going a little better. If you are using your own wireless router (Not an XBox adapter.) you should be able to log into the configuration console of it with your tablet and easily determine the ip of the hotel, internal and external.
I'm not sure what one of those adapters would cost, but the kind of router that AndrewD2 mentioned will run you around 30 bucks and up. His suggestion is awesome and would be a great way for you to use the hotel internet on your XBox even if there is no wired connection.
Hope that helps.
I suggest this
While is a poweline and can work part of a pair, it can also work as stand alone and doesn't need any extra power supply. It's small and u can configur it easily. You plug the eth cable one the cat5 socket and plug the dlink on the electricity socket.
FYI this is what I use.
Just in case someone stumbles upon this thread in search for the solution: here it is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1060984 - haven't tested it yet, though.

Using Ethernet and Wifi at the same time in Android

i want to use turn on both Ethernet and Wifi on my android decive at the same time with different IP addresses like:
Wifi: IP: 192.168.1.5 Gateway: 192.168.1.1
and
Ethernet: IP:192.168.0.10 Gateway: (Blank)
Is it possible? the problem is that when i turn Wifi on , the Ethernet will get disconnected.
and only when Wifi goes off or disconnected Ethernet will be connected!
How can i use both of them at the same time connected to the network?
It's possible in PC based systems even with 2-3 adapters! But what about Android devices?

okay , i dont want to do this anymore, the problem solved.
im using USB to Ethernet adapter.
i use wifi of tablet for other purpose , i want to add a device to tablet that works with network
i can simply put an accesspoint and connect the device to tablet but it a bit more expensive that USB-Ethernet adapter
simply for this!
anyways thanks for ur answer
Thanks for your precious input man!. It also works for me with an Android compatible USB / Ethernet Adapter. If I configure both Wifi and Ethernet manually with different subnets, I can make both work simultaneously. I use this adapter: Assmann DN-10050-1 Digitus USB network adapter.
@hyelton: ever heard of Android TV boxes? Imagine to have it connected via Wifi to the web and via Ethernet to your NAS?
Cheers.

Yes I know, but why is the NAS not already connected to the same network that the box is connecting to the WiFi? The ideal way is to have the NAS part of your network not separate.

You are right, it is the ideal way to have everything in the same network. But in my experience, streaming HD content via Wifi is too laggy. Therefore I connect my NAS and my Android TV box via an ethernet cable.

Because I would have to drill holes in several walls to get the cable trough to all devices. This way I only need to place the NAS in the vicinity of the Android TV Box and connect them via cable.

Idk it just seems verry wasteful. I have Ethernet scattered throughout my upstarts no holes drilled and none of it visible. Why don't you just use an external USB hard drive instead of wasting a NAS?

Dear Friends,
let me explain about the problem.
Result: let me say that the problem solved by interfacing android usb to my device instead of ethernet.
Details: and now about the reason i need to do it: i have a small electronic design office. i need to design a system that controls electrical I/Os (like Relays, Triacs, etc) and need android to control that wirelessly, so 2 problem exists:
1. how to connect android wirelessly to PC / Mobile?
Answer: by network programming and wifi
2. how to connect android device (tablet/phone without direct I/Os) to the Electrical devices with wire?
Answer: there is 2way: 1.with Ethernet , 2. with Usb
Ethernet: via Enc28j60
Usb: with usb controller
and why not to use Router/AccessPoint?
Answer: simply because addition of more device! it increase cost of building and the volume , power consumption, complexity of system etc.
Thanks for ur attention.
(sorry for bad english.)

I know this is an old topic...
But just wondering, doesn't Android TV boxes have their own Ethernet port? Or does only the USB Ethernet work simultaneously with builtin in WiFi?
I am keen to make them work simultaneously on HiMedia media player which already has a builtin Ethernet port and WiFi, but only one works at a time.
Thanks

Help needed to direct mobile LTE data to usb-c Ethernet adapter

Hi all....Long time lurker, former Nexus root junkie, now cruising on the V20.
I am a ham radio operator and I have ventured into the world of DMR radio. I have a SharkRF OpenSPOT. In short the OpenSPOT connects via Ethernet to allow radio communications, serving as a ultra low power repeater bridge.
OpenSPOT is plug and play on my home network, I just have to connect to http://openspot/ to connect to the web interface
My question is this, I would like to connect my OpenSPOT to my V20 I purchased a USB-C to Gigabit adapters (Aukey model CB-C39)
I am stock, with developer options turned on.
I have no handshake between the OpenSPOT and phone.
I have selected Ethernet-USB on in developer options.
Can anyone help me tether my LTE data to the OpenSPOT via USB to Ethernet, basically function as a router?
Bump... Anyone? Thx
Why are you trying to go usb to ethernet? Is it because your carrier doesn't include any tethering via WiFi? I run a DVMega with my V20 using the hotspot feature and since I'm a cheap bastard, I'm using the Ethernet WiFi adapter that I had for an old laser printer. Not as elegant but it works. I'll spend the $8 on Amazon for a USB WiFi adapter one of these days.
I bet you could fashion a case for your OpenSpot and an Ethernet adapter.
Yes, I would like to, for lack of a better description, use the V20 as both a ISP and router in one, designating a hardwired OpenSPOT a IP address via the usb-c Ethernet adapter instead of having to carry a router.
Given the lack of a simple fix and due to the fact that I can charge while using wifi tethering, I believe the nano router route may just be the logical setup.....

Using ChromeCast's Ethernet adapter with phone

So I have an extra Chromecast gen2 ethernet adapter and a Nexus 6 phone, I was thinking I could use it to provide a wired network connection to my phone.
Though after just connecting it and checking the app "Ping and DNS" I don't seem to be able to get the adapter to show up.
From some googling it looks that the chip it uses is a RTL8152.
So anyone have info on how to load the drivers for this?

USB-C LAN adapter that work on 9T?

Does anyone have tested usb lan adapters with the 9T?
I used all the time a ASIX lan adapter in my old Moto X2 with Lineage OS, so i was wondering i anyone have a "working" adapter/IC with the 9T so i can get one for me?
thanks!
I tried LAN adapter on my mi 9t and i can confirm that sadly it doesn't work :/. It worked on my older Mi 4c but not on the recent models.

good news! tried a "ASIX AX88178" usb 2.0 to gigabit adapter and worked fine! don't know if is only this one, but i think newer asix usb 3.0 will work too (usb on this phone is 2.0 only)
can scan LAN and get internet from it. just need to connect on a network with DHCP ( i don't think you can set manual ip on lan on android)
beware of cheap otg adapters, some of them (tiny dongle) does not have all GND and VCC pins, so they don't get a proper "multiple connection" pins to get better amperage from phone. usb lan adapter can use a bit of power from phone

Hi, can you tell me the steps to follow to make it work? I have a Mi9t Pro and a USB Lan X88179 adapter connected to an OTG to the mobile, but the internet does not work. How did you do it?
Can you explain this part to me?
"can scan LAN and get internet from it. just need to connect on a network with DHCP ( i don't think you can set manual ip on lan on android)"
Thank you.
Hi, i used a otg adapter cable (make sure it works correctly with a thumb drive for example, to make sure every thing is ok and detect the device)
then i just connected the lan adapter. i would appear as if it is not working, but you need to connect to a network router/switch/etc with the cable and the leds should light up on the lan adapter. to "properly" work, you need to connect to a device with DHCP enabled (by default all lan routers have this) so it will give the phone a IP and work normally. (a network icon should appear on the notification bar)
then you can disable wifi and see if there is internet (if have it in the router) or use the network analyzer to scan the network (if it detect the device and work, you will be able to scan the network and find the devices on it)

My otg works by putting the usb memory (yes, it detects it, so OTG is right).
When I connect USB lan adapter (AX88179) to the OTG, the operation lights do not light. And the network icon does not appear on the mobile, and I havent internet. (However, with another Huawei mobile and the Huawei tablet the lights do turn on, the network icon appears, and the internet works via ethernet).
My router is connected in DHCP.
What could be the problem? I need to connect the 9t pro by cable but I can't find the way.
I thought it could be a problem with Xiaomi and 9t pro, but if you connect your 9t I suppose it is possible.

you mean connect the ethernet cable directly to a small modem and this via USB to the mobile? it would be to use the modem instead of the lan adapter, right? it's a good option, I can try it to see if it works for me.
But I still have the doubt as to why in Mi 9t pro the lan adapter does not work
perhaps the AX88179 is not supported... i tested mine ( AX88178 ) with MIUI and LineageOS and works on both,

Hello, I have gone to the Xiaomi store and another to fix mobile phones, in both they have told me that the ethernet option through an adapter to the 9t pro is not possible because my USB is only for transferring photos, videos (pendrive) but it is not compatible with connections. In developer options, the RNDIS option (USB ethernet) does not appear, which would be the one you would have to have to be able to do it. Do you have the RNDIS option in 9T? it would be: developer options -> default USB settings
RNDIS is for using usb <>usb connection to a computer and make a network over usb, NOT a usb lan adapter.
if usb support OTG (send power via usb to connect a device like usb pendrive) it means it "can" support any usb device, but depend only on the device to have drivers and support for the type of device.
Again, i've tested mine in MIUI and Lineage, and works fine. will post a video showing...

Thank you for your answers. In the Mi community forum, users have the same problem as mine, updates from MIUI 10 do not work for the ethernet option (my MIUI is 12.0.3.0. Another girl asked Xiaomi directly and in an email They answered that they had eliminated that option for not going "with their philosophy" (they are also eliminating the headphone jack connection in many mobiles, it can only be used by bluetooh). This is the general trend, I cannot find anyone who has found a solution Only you! Even in this forum there is a thread about rooting the mobile to make it work with ethernet (but it is too complicated for me). Also other people on the forum work the lan adapter by activating RNDIS in the developer options.
So far, none of this has worked for me.
Summary: Since I don't know exactly what the problem or compatibility is, I am going to try the AX88178 lan adapter. So, wish me luck!

mine is the same, without the case. but this one is gigabit over usb 2.0 (max around 400mbps).
a 10/100 would be enough for me, smaller and with less power consumption. will try to find a compatible chip from asix perhaps in the future

i will test hubs and network + hub in the future also
EDIT:
If connecting on a network without DHCP, you can add manually the ip by using "ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.100" in termux for example. i believe needs root for that. ("su" before running ifconfig)
without setting manual ip on network without DHCP, the network won't work .
