If you are on OTA 3 and plan to go to OTA 3.5, make sure your recovery works first!
I attempted to install the old CWM (that didn't work with OTA3) back when I got OTA3 and had forgotten. Since it doesn't work I am stuck with my tablet bootlooping with the "Booting recovery kernel image" message. It just keeps trying to boot into recovery, thanks a lot Lenovo.
Hopefully I can fix this because I think my tablet just went out of warranty, so I can't even try to spin that. (If you know a way to force normal booting, please let me know.)
Also I should note that I have a US tablet. Which is apparently the only region with a locked bootloader. If I could get into nvflash fixing this would be a piece of cake. Now I have to stress out until I can get it fixed because I use it for taking notes in most of my classes.
Exactly same problem here. Will try to flash an update to see if it correct the problem
Hope that CWM recovery 5 works, otherwise will try to install CWMRecovery v6 (again, hope that adb works !)
Yeah, its not getting past the initial bootloader at all, so no Android, which means no ADB. Unless someone knows of a lesser-known button combo for booting into normal mode, I can't think of a way to fix this.
argh, just try to flash OTA 3 (wich should overwrite recovery) but same result ! always reboot on CWM 5.5.0.4
And adb don't seems to be recognize, so not possible to install another CWM recovery
I'm stuck !
Yeah ! solved my problem thanks to koshu (see here)
But I can do this because I had a recovery, so I don't think it will solve your problem David, try to ask Koshu, maybe he can find another way...
I shall ask him! Thanks!

HALP!
My phone just went black, and when i turned it back on after taking battery in and out, xRecovery is gone, and I now have clockworkmod for X10 Mini for some reason! ... i have X8.
I can't reboot through CWM, it says that "ERROR: Current recovery seems bad!"
Also I'm guessing xR-files are different from CWM's, so the backup I had using xR probably won't work. What do? I don't wanna brick this.
Prior to this error i just installed a few apps. A few that I can think of are; Dropbox, Clockr (clock widget) and Screenshot. Last one needed SU-admissions, it may be that.
Please help.
Cheers
EDIT: Solved - it turned out FroyoBread has a dual recovery-situation; XREC and CWM
But keep on feeding me info!
To further assist you please answer this questions.
Is your bootloader unlocked?
What is your current ROM?
Possible solutions;
If you can still enter a recovery flash a working rom and after that restore your backup.
If thats not work you will have to flash thru various recovery tool SE provides.
Solved!
I took a chance on rebooting, and was able to enter xRecovery and reboot from there.
Next question - where did clockworkmod come from?
Please advice...

I've never done anything with bootloader, other than a program to load various loaders, i don't know what it is.
My current ROM is FroyoBread by Doixhan.
As you can see in my second post, I WAS able to load xRecovery and reboot from there. Now I would very much like to know why a program i've never installed suddenly makes scary moves on my phone=P
Thanks for your reply!
The answer is that you are using a dual recovery ROM
If you tap screen while booting it will enter CWM if you press back button it will enter Xrec.
Mostly ROM made for stock uses dual recovery, again.
Tap Screen = CWM
Back Button = XREC
PS:
Modifying your phone takes courage. If your afraid to brick it then read carefully and follow before you try. It takes courage to achieve something.

So you're saying my custom ROM has two recovery-programs with two different entry-modes?
It's strange that I never read anything about CWM when I installed either XREC or FroyoBread.
Anyways, thanks for the answer, dude. This really got me scared for a second=P
Based on your statement yes you have dual recovery. Give it a try to see. Dont worry it wont brick your device when you enter a recovery. Just dont do anything just restart it after you test it,

I know NOW it won't brick my phone - but you know, I couldn't find anything about online, and I never installed that program (which said I couldn't boot because of invalid restore-files) - so you see WHY I was all revved up=P
I've owned a smartphone (this x8) for two months now, but I feel I got a nice knowledgebase of how all this stuff works - but I don't like sudden unexpected things like this. If I was scared of rooting and custom roms, I wouldn't have done ANY of this.
But thanks anyways, I love XDA
Hello!
I was about to unroot and get back to stock with my A500 so I flashed a stock ROM via CWM to get a ota-update. Before i had a custom ICS ROM installed and now I installed a HC stock ROM. The problem is that i forgot to go through the wipe menu in CWM before the flash and now when I start up my tablet I first see the ACER logo as usual, then a android text-logo which the tablet is stuck at. I've waited 20 minutes and is still shows the same thing. The logo has an animation which i still can see. I've tried to restart the tablet and get into CWM again without succes.
I have read diffrent threads for several hours but I can't find my problem. What should I do? :crying:
what does the android text say?
Hi dibb_nz.
It is the bootanimation from what I gather (Video; http://s1142.photobucket.com/albums/n602/JdgM3NT4L/?action=view¤t=AndroidBootanimation.mp4). I am trying to help someone get a tab up that is doing the same thing as well. The weird part is that recovery is good, bootloader passed (V8), wiped data/cache/system. Tried three ICS roms so far, and every one is stuck at the bootanimation. About to go bonkers trying to figure it out. The only thing that I can think of to try next is changing CWM from Thors to TWRP or something...
To Webspirit, your problem will most likely get fixed by using blackthund3rs APX Tool. Google it and then goto the forum where it is. There's plenty of support for getting that going and you shouldn't have any problems. If you do holler. Alot of us have had to use that tool and can help. I am hopeful that yours will be as simple as downloading and installing recovery back and flashing a nice rom.
Yeah i agree with the guy above me, your going to have to flash something from apx
Sent from my A501 using xda app-developers app

hi J...ok thats cool re boot anim...i asked becoz like u i been trying to help a couple of others who can't use any of the flash tools or roll back to HC...i only just got myself fixed after being stuck in apx, no recovery, and boot screen saying in red text "reboot device" thought he may have had similar issue....
J...have u used nvflash or apxflash to roll back - theres a few folks getting stuck with it...its loading the HC apx driver which aint working with the ics bl so then yr tab gets stuck in apx!!!
I started a new thread hoping someone can help us all out be great to hear yr thoughts on this....its driving me up the wall
sorry didnt mean to hijack the thread
Hi there!
I own an Acer Iconia A500. Originally came with HC3x, updated it all the way to ICS. Rooted it at ICS with this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1546593
Worked fine. The only issue is accessing Recovery at boot. (Just in case I plan on restoring the Stock version of Android, for warranty).
I first used the Acer Recovery Tool app at the Play Store. I tried one of the Recovery options listed. CWM for start. Backed up as asked, then rebooted into recovery. I was told "recovery verified failed". Did a restore, tried another method, same crap, with a time the bot with the (!) appears. Did some research on the issue, and came up to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622425
I did option 1 (Afterota v1.09). And flashed Recovery Twp 2.1.3/Bootloader.
I reseted back to bootloader, it didn't show "Recovery verified failed", but instead I got the bot with the (!) again. Went back to Acer Recovery tool. Bottom shows that its unable to identify the installed recovery. So I tried TWRP 2.1.3, didn't work.
My question is, how can I get this to fix? This is my first time trying to install a bootloader. Please help me step by step to get this situation fixed. I appreciate the help by any!!
i am having the same issue and have tried several different fixes without success... any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
(the only one I haven't tried yet is 'manual flashing' outline here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622425... will give this a shot when I get a chance and report back... from all the 'automated' or gui methods it always seems to get stuck at the flashing/copying stage...)
thanks!
Same issue...
Glad I'm not the only one with this issue... Used the exact methods you did, same results. Amazing!
i think part of the problem may be that the bootloader was not unlocked when the initial recovery was flashed? when i rooted i thought I had properly unlocked the bootloader as well, but perhaps not....? (... i thought i read somewhere that if the bootloader has not been unlocked when you flash recovery these are the results.. so i am assuming that this might have something to do with the issue?)
the question is, is there a fix?
i have been playing and experimenting more on the tf101 side... all the stuff i'm doing with this is for my wife's a500 because she liked some of the features on my tablet... i'm not all that familiar with the A500 (didn't have to deal with bootloaders separately on the tf101) so any help is greatly appreciated!
thanks!
Alright. I seem to have got it all fixed. What I did was, went back to this page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622425
Went to the "Automated flashing tool" / "USING blackthund3r ATX flash tool , It makes it all a little easier !" Method (below Option 2, in the middle). Downloaded V8-TWRP_2.1.3_ICS_recovery.a500apx and APX-FLASH-Tool & Manager, and followed the instructions.
It didn't work with Windows 8 RTM, (driver issue with APX), but Windows 7, worked perfectly, after downloading the Acer driver from a link in the app when prompted. All worked well.
hope u guys got sorted....
for others reading this
to install recovery from ICS you must first flash the unlocked boot loader, after that u can use Acer recovery installer, although once unlocked most of us use fast boot or the auto tools to do it
I'll be as descriptive as possible.
I must have did a bad flash with CWM, so I tried to reflash with CWM, TWRP, and even the OEM recovery. When attempting to boot to recovery, the screen goes blank. My pc attempts to connect every drive letter I've got when I plug in the usb. Among which, I can access an image folder on the device. Can't figure out how a bad recovery flash does this, but I can't find a fix for the life of me. Phone works as it should. My problem is anything involving recovery will give me a black screen, so factory wipe will not work.
Any ideas would be well appreciated.
Thanks
I tried following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2471370
The program get's stuck at analyzing device and doesn't flash or download anything. It would be nice if I can perform at least a factory reset in case something wants to blow up in my face. If anyone has some ideas (ridiculous or not), feel free to let me know.

Hey man you could try just using Flashify to flash a recovery...its a app...then boot to recovery
I tried using that method. It gives me the same thing. Maybe somewhere in the recovery location (or associated locations) seem to may have gotten damaged somehow during the bad flash? Flashing the phone completely I'm sure would do the trick. I came from the droid 4, so sbf/fastboot flash would solve all my problems. Searching around landed me to a kdz, which seemed to be an equivalent, but isn't working or maybe I'm doing something wrong? Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.
I went and did a full flash using this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448960. Since I couldn't find a recovery fix per se, I decided to flash the whole thing and start fresh (oh well).
It downgraded to 11A in the process, so the same can probably be said for 10B for compatible custom builds.
A couple weeks back I deleted the OS off of my phone while messing with TWRP recovery trying to install a custom ROM. I looked around the forums and i got my phone to the point where It booted into a stripped down version of android with stock recovery on it, although everything was mirriored and backwards. But when i tried to install the stock rom for my LeEco S3 with stock recovery it got stuck i a boot loop and I couldn't turn off the phone or boot into recovery or anything. So i let it keep booting until it ran out of battery and died. So then i decided i would put the stripped down version back on and start again.
So I went back to my sp flash tool and reinstalled all the partions except the boot and recovery partitions (according to the steps on the forum) but my phone still wont boot into anything, it is completely black and wont boot into recovery or fastboot, and im running out of ideas on how to fix this phone :crying:
After pretty much giving up all hope of fixing my phone, i figured i would try the format option in the flash tool and then reinstall all of the pattitions. I selected format all flash, not doing proper research first, and now i cant even reinstall partions, I get a STATUS_BROM_CMD_SEND_DA_FAIL error anytime i try to flash the partitions.
can you at least get the phone to fastboot mode?

No I cannot, The screen is completely black and nothing comes on at all if I hold down the power button.
well damn, looks like a soft brick, it can be repaired but not gonna lie, it is a pain in the butt...

I have already looked through that thread, and i have done everything up to the flashing process, and then I get a STATUS_BROM_CMD_SEND_DA_FAIL (0xC0060003) Error. I looked it up but the only option I haven't tried to solve the issue is to remove the battery, which i cannot do currently because to remove the battery you need a heat gun to remove the screen to get to the rest of the phone. I think I've given up all hope on fixing this phone and may just begin saving for a new one.
