Hi, I wasn't sure where to post this, so I'm sorry if it's in the wrong place. I am looking for a mod to change the 'H' icon in the status bar, to the 4G icon.
Yes, I do know that 'H' isn't 4g, but I would like a flashable zip, specifically for ics 4.0, for me to try.
Thanks.

Depends on what rom you are using, one cannot simply make a zip that makes that kind of changes on all ICS roms simply because there are framework differences between the likes of CM7, CM9, AOKP, Sense, etc.
If you have Sense ( I think 3.5 or older ) there was one such mod in the Application subforum.
yes as well as one for cm7, have not seen one for ics or jb but I'm sure if you work hard at it you'll find one/make one

Yeah I've seen the one for cm7, but virtuous g lite has it already. Guess the rom wasn't designed for the U.K as it shows 4g when it should be 'H', which is exactly what I want for myself on Mimicry.
On the CM7 mod, someone talked about changing the System Ui.apk, under system-apps, and replacing the 'H' icons with 4g ones. I wondered if that would be the same for me. If anyone could shed some light on this, it would be great.
Thanks

I don't know how to create a flashable zip, but here is the modified SystemUI.apk - I think it is specific for Andromadus Mimicry 1.4.0.
Since you seem to be new, here is a little guide to apply the modification:
Before doing anything, make a Nandroid backup, just in case something goes wrong.
0. Download the SystemUI.apk and place it in the root directory of your SD card.
1. Open the Terminal Emulator app.
2. Type su and hit the Enter button to gain root permissions.
3. Type busybox mount -o remount -w /system and hit the Enter button to make the /system partition writable.
4. Type cp -f /sdcard/SystemUI.apk /system/app/ and hit the Enter button to copy the modified file to where it belongs.
5. Type chmod 644 /system/app/SystemUI.apk and hit the Enter button to fix the file's permissions.
6. Reboot and enjoy.

I cannot thank you enough. This worked perfectly, with no issues. Your help has been amazing.
Just one question though. If I change roms (factory reset included) or flash a Andromadus Mimicry update, will I lose the 4G icon? Or is it stuck forever?(which would be good).
Thanks again!
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda app-developers app
you will loose it, but you see how easy it is to get again, maybe see if you can find someone who will put it in a .zip for you and you could just flash it right after the flash of a new compatible rom

I gotta contribute to this thread with a little note from my post here. Since our devices can't achieve HSPA+ speeds (4G), why do you want to apply that [incorrect] label in the statusbar? Is it purely an aesthetic thing like "hey I know I don't get 4G but LOOK the ICON shows it!!!!! :victory:".
Maybe I don't understand the point/appeal? If I'm on a 4G network I'd want it to say 4G, if I'm on an HS*PA network I'd want H and if I'm on Edge I want E. The whole point of that icon is to correctly convey the actual network connection, but it seems like you guys just want 4G because it "looks better"?
THAT SAID, right now in ICS if you're on HSPA+ (which has been relabeled to 4G) it will still show H, but as I said, our devices don't seem to be HSPA+ compatible, at least according to GSM Arena.

You are exactly right of course. I am only doing this nonsense for my friend, who is yet to join XDA (sad, yes I know). However, I personally think the 4G icon does look better than H. Its personal preference, I feel. By the way, your zip works fine. I have added your zip to my thread, giving u credit. Is that ok.

I would cut your current one and drop it on your sdcard as a backup. Rename your bootanimation.zip to whatever the one you cut/pasted is. That might fix both problems. There are a lot of wallpapers in that folder. Delete some you don't care for.

Do not proceed if you have no idea what you're doing! i'm not responsible for whatever happens to your device by following this guide.
Method 1. use a file explorer that has access to the system like root explorer.
make sure you have rw access first
copy the file to /system/app
set permissions to rw r r
reboot
Method 2. use androidSDK/adb
move the file to location of adb i.e C:/androidsdk/platform-tools
connect phone to computer
open command window
type in the following:
Code:
adb devices
adb push location-of-your-file /system/app
adb reboot
you made need to set permissions for it to work
to do that:
adb shell
su
chmod 777 /system/app/name-of-file
reboot
both these methods require su and root!
Can you also add a keyboard as a 2nd one..like instead of replacing one, just add an apk and have the option to choose between the 2?

Okay. Well i have searched around several times and i can't seem to fine anything that on resizing CMs nav bar.

You can't change it from within CM, but you can flash different mods in recovery (like the one posted above) to change it manually.
Ill be honest if You dont know what a nandroid is you may want to take some time and do some basic research before you end up bricking your phone. Messing with the OS of a device is NOT fool proof. Things can go wrong and then you are stuck with a non working device that you cant return.
Ok just learned what nandroid is and so i guess the next step is to nandroid backup my phone and then flash the mod from the link right?

These are the lines that you have to change:
Code:
<dimen name="navigation_bar_height">[COLOR="Red"]38.0[/COLOR]dip</dimen>
<dimen name="navigation_bar_height_landscape">[COLOR="red"]38.0[/COLOR]dip</dimen>
<dimen name="navigation_bar_width">[COLOR="red"]38.0[/COLOR]dip</dimen>

That's odd. It was just working fine...and now it says account suspended .
Anyways this is basically what you have to do(may require some other searching):
-navigate to system/framework and copy the framework-res.apk to your computer
-decompile framework-res.apk
-in the decompiled folder navigate to /res/values/ and open the file named dimens.xml in a text editor
-edit the lines that I posted above to your liking
-recompile framework-res.apk and push it back to the phone. Also make sure the permissions are set to rw-r-r
Hey what does bar width do? hey I am having issues signing and pushing files back to my phone?

You should keep it the same as the height. All three values should be the same

Whats the issue? You cant just put a question mark at the end of your vague statement and expect someone to figure out your problem

you should try a rom with more control built in like aokp, slim, or pa if you want to change stuff more and dont quite know how to mod system files correctly
anyway, heres what i found with a quick google: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2159270
its pretty complicated but the instructions are clear

-Make a nandroid backup just in case
-Download an root file manager. I would recommend root explorer (paid), but there are other free ones like es file explorer.
-Copy the framework-res.apk from your computer to your phone. (just use the usb cable and transfer it over using MTP)
-Open the root file manager and copy the framework-res.apk from where you put it
-Navigate to system/framework and rename the existing framework-res.apk to framework-res.apk.bak
-Paste the new framework-res.apk
-Long press the new framework-res.apk and go to permissions and change them to rw-r-r
-reboot
yep I do that but as soon as I get done renaming framework.apk.bak the phone restarts and goes into boot loop.
I reflash CM10.1 and nandroid backup and everything is fine again. then I tryed just replacing framework but same thing happens.
ohh and mbucks911 the reason why I dont use AOKP is becasue my battery life with AOKP is terrible it causes my phone to run at around 38c which is warm enough to make my hands sweat and my battery drains 10% for every 10mins my screen is on. when I use CM my phone barely gets over 30c and operates around 27c for every and 10% of my battery thats almost 2 hours of sot thats why i am trying to stick with CM.

Try using adb to push it.
Code:
adb remount
adb push \path\to\framework-res.apk /system/framework/
adb reboot
