I think it's true... considering that HTC themselves said so...
If it is would it be a big deal? I don't know how HTC phones work really, I've modded a evo once but that's it. I've been a Sammy user for 3 years.

Well... A month the first time. Then they updated the firmware and that took about 5 months to crack... Still can't root the latest update... I'd be willing to bet we'll be waiting a long time. But hey, maybe this device will get popular.

Don't know why people are suprised by this. They locked every htc in recent history and also the Dev version would be completely irrelevant if you could unlock the AT&T version.

Now that the phone has been out for a weekend by AT&T, is there any definitive proof that the AT&T one can still unlock the bootloader via HTC dev post 4/19?
Has anyone attempted it? Or are people receiving retail units with the bootloader locked?
I took my RAZR i back for a refund today, after realising I couldn't put Cyanogenmod on it. I am now looking at the RAZR m, it looks like the same phone except no intel processor and 4G capability. Would I be able to put CM on there? Some say it is not possible to unlock the bootloader?
Since it is not available in the UK, I will need to buy it from the US. I've found a few unlocked versions on ebay, but they are unlocked to GSM networks. Does this mean my Three sim card won't be compatible? Will I be able to access 3G/4G?
Thanks
It is possible to use a RAZR M on UK GSM networks, but you will only get up to 3g speeds.
As for CM, you should find out what software version the phone is on if you plan on buying it secondhand.

just make sure the build date is prior to 5/2013
The software version is crucial. If it is from July, then you do NOT want it. Otherwise, you can say goodbye to the latest CM versions and other Roms.
Make sure if you do find the right version, that you unlock that phone immediately before an OTA screws your chances of unlock.

hmmm.... it may. not 100% sure if "global unlock" means that he has already unlocked the bootloader to allow global use, or simply rooted it to allow global access.... or something else.
I did not see a screenprint of the phone settings from the listing, so I guess you are at a "wait and see" point. certainly, when you first turn it on, check the "about phone" section - and do NOT accept any OTA updates.
good luck

In a conversation with a verizon salesman he told me this http://imgur.com/WlmNyl3
he probably doesn't know what you mean. he probably means like global unlocked.
the past few samsung devices have locked bootloaders, and verizon doesn't go around that. that, plus KNOX means the GS5 WILL have a locked bootloader, and we'll have to do some loki stuff to get around it like with the GS4/Note 3 etc
Knox has nothing to do with a locked bootloader.

That is also a Nexus phone.
The catch being Samsung and Verizon want enterprise adoption of the device, so like the S4, it will very likely be locked by same design.

That's not the point Knox is used for those secure businesses. It any way does it mean with having Knox means the bootloader is gna be locked. A bootloader can be unlocked with Knox still present but there is the Knox warranty that you would want to avoid of course.

I appreciate you sharing, but answers from a Verizon sales rep are about as meaningful as those from rolling a magic 8 ball. They very rarely have even the slightest clue as to what you are talking about. Actually since you have made the effort to visit this forum, chances are you already know more than they do.
I fully expect the VZ bootloader to come locked up tight. Hopefully we can get it unlocked as fast as the M8 did. I could care less about Knox or my warranty.

Hoping and wishing ain't going to make it happen - look no further than the VZN S4 / Note 3. If not for the loki exploit on the initial S4 release, AOSP Roms would be unavailable. Check out the Original Android Development section on the VZN Note 3.....that is most likely the future of the S5. Be happy with TW or get a Dev Edition - probably your only options.

Even though we tested a Verizon Pixel, the bootloader was not locked. That means rooting and installing ROMs is possible; that should allay some fears about Google turning the Pixel into a closed realm.

Same here I've been having second thoughts about my pre order with Verizon since the rumor was the bootloader was locked. I've been checking Google store a few times a day to see if they got any in stock. I hope this is true. Is there a way to check quick while in in the Verizon store when my pre order comes in on the 20th? Before i give them my note 7 ?
I put all my money on this one being just like the Nexus 6. Guess I should get a lottery ticket today.

It was never locked. All of that was fear mongering based on speculation, a rep said this or that which is unreliable, and one who claims they had prerelease firmware locked down.
Meanwhile we have someone with a Verizon Pixel in hand who has confirmed its unlockable.
