Thanks so much for all that you have done and do. I would not have been able to root my Vibrant when I did if not for you. Your fine work and generously sharing it set a shining example for all of us.
Later, Duder. Thanks for all your awesome work.
I will see you around as well. I got an hd2 + 75 for my vibrant. Oh, and be sure to try out hyperdroid gbx 9 as your first rom. It is awesome!

Thanks again tga!

Take care. I'm pretty sure that I will use your work again in future (not HD2)

The HD2 is actually a very solid device, full metal build quality (metal back cover + rubber coated metal back), decent camera (better on WinMo with some sharpness tweaks), 4.3 in. screen which makes quite a large difference even though it is only .3 inches larger, and the first generation Snapdragon. Sure, the GPU is not as good, but the CPU is just as fast for everyday tasks. Plus having 3 stable OSes to run is rather fun. And don't let the lcd screen fool you, it is very similar to a normal AMOELD screen such as the one on the Nexus One, but with better sharpness and no burn ins.
how much is that hd2?

best rom i have ever seen. thanks for the suggestion. its like the best of cm7, sense, blurr an tw plus massive additional dev work built from the ground up. finally 2.3.3 gingerbread on my phone and its rock solid. love the boost in resolution the screen on the hd2 is awesome for reading small print. surfing is much easier.

I tried the HD2 as a secondary phone, and it was a pretty solid device. The construction and materials are beautiful. The only thing I couldn't really put up with is the 65K color display limitation of the hardware.
I have a little dilemma. I have had this my touch 4g for a while now and love it. I am currently rooted running ics on my phone. The fact that I am a flashaholic and it seems lately new things are coming out for this phone every week or so, makes it even better.
My girlfriend just got added to my plan so we ordered a HTC amaze 4g because it was free. And after looking at the amaze section it doesn't seem likes there's much going on.from what I read they are stuck on drivers. Yet the amaze it set to get the official ics update.
All that being said my girlfriend had a flip phone so anything is an upgrade for her. Which phone should I take and which one should I give to her.

I keep hearing that they have s-off on the Amaze, but it hasn't been released yet...but that's just what I read on here. I don't know it to be a fact. But I would probably take the Amaze if it were free, because I have found out recently that I don't prefer ICS. Not that I'm knocking mt4g, its still my favorite, but I feel like the Amaze will explode in development soon...

I thought the same thing but then I saw that there isn't even çm7 for the amaze which kind of made me worry about development. Thanks for your reply though

Ive heard that the Amaze is a great phone, but time is ticking and the development window is getting smaller by the day. Without development going on currently, people will probably move to a new device sooner.
Just my two cents.
If you want a device for development, go for some thing else like sensation or upcoming one s. If you want a great device that works, go for the amaze.
I got the amaze for my girl and Im switching to it too.
Honestly, if you want great developer support and lots of ROM options, you should go with a Nexus. Be it a nexus S or the galaxy nexus. They tend to have the liveliest dev groups. however, if you are into sense ui, it might not be the best choice.
Forget everything. Go for the amaze. They have s-off.
Amaze is a beautiful powerhouse

+1 Word, never even considered the one series devices one bit. Long live AMAZE!
Well after playing with the galaxy note i bought for my gf a few days ago, i decided i couldn't take it any longer so i went to phones 4 u and asked what they could do for me. They have paid what i had left on my contract 7 months early for me and given me a galaxy s2 for free on a £20.50 p/m orange contract.
Not a bad deal i don't think.
I'll still pop in every now and then though as i still have a wildfire at home and dont want to get rid of my introduction to android, thanks to everyone that has shared anything i used and for teaching me how to get the best out of my phone.

Mate, that was quick lol. The itch took over quicker than i expected. Sg2 is prob my realistic expectation too and for about the same £pm but on 3. Keep in touch mucca and all the best with the new toy. Its gonna be like losing an arm
I was just about to post another thread but oh well
Yesterday I received my HTC One S on contracts, 25.92 p/m for 12 months, 260 or something upfront.D) I've always loved Willy, he is the best legend to date and I don't think I can sell him
Being with Willy has been a rollercoaster, I learnt about rooting through it, my first two roots were with two Wildfires. I couldn't take Sense anymore, so I got CM7, and then eventually we got CM9!! (Well done to Erwin, if I can find his donation link I will most definitely donate)
I'll still hang around on the CM9 thread and a few others, though now I'll mostly post on the One S forums, hope to see you guys there
cya
Congrats! See ya around on the S2 section!
Bye scratch and thanks to all your work.

First flashed temp cwm from stock recovery, then flashed supersu to get root, after that boot into recovery and flashed siyah kernel. Full cwm, root and plenty of tweaks to play with. Just need to decide on a Rom now.
Oh...... The note is a real beast of a phone, hope you have big hands our lass doesn't.

Thanks everyone and scratch, I haven't managed to root mine yet - we don't have Revolutionary yet, and I'm scared if I root it using HTCDev they won't take my phone in for service if I ever need it. And there aren't many ROMs, most are Sense 4.0 based, except for the Alpha 10 CM9 port!

My friend, I think you should have asked this question before ordering it and may be read a thread discussing Galaxy Note issues:

Anyway, if you're after the big display, you won't regret. And be sure to read all the stickies and guides before trying to flash anything
I enjoy mine very much and I hope you'll be happy with yours as well!
p.s. If you purchase a case, make sure it's a "magnet free" one - many users (incl. myself) complained of S-pen interference from the magnet of the case.

Should't even think of trying the Note.
1. The real big screen will make your eyes taking more time in looking around it.
2. Its vividness will hurt your eyes.
3. You will not be welcome by stationery shop just because of the S-pen.
4. USB drive connecting ability allow you too much flexibility. This may force you to even carry a mouse everywhere with you just for doing something requiring such high precision on the Note.
5. It may waste lots of your times playing high-end HD games due to its too much CPU power.
Don't go for the Note please ^^

I think I need to sell mine today, if it's this bad!
To the OP: Do read all the stickies as somebody already said. Flashing is NOT hard on the note, it just requires you to know what you are doing; once you read all the stickies carefully and thoroughly, am quite sure you would know what to flash, what not to and how to flash. Cheers!

Is it too different than flashing other phones?
Like, flash a recovery then copy zip and apply update?
Sent from my GT-I9001 using XDA Premium HD app
the principal is the same yes, But however there is a major bug in the stock ICS kernel(s) can that cause hardbrick (brickbug) when doing a factory reset.
So long as you flash a safe kernel before hand you will be fine, Just read the guides and if you have any issues / questions, dont be afraid to ask.
Also check my Signature for real time IRC chat.
It's confirmed. Will get mine today after work. Got it for about 400 dollars, on my carrier points program.
The only problem I may have will be with kernels?

There's some stickys in development section:
Dr ketans to do with flashing stock roms, and a separate one for rooting and installing cwm.
Another on the superbrick or emmc bug affecting most ics kernels. Includes information on safe kernels that have had emmc format bug removed.
Those are the main ones to get you started.

Paranoid on this beast is awesome. If you go for paranoid, I'd recommend using v0.2a rather than 0.3, there's a couple of issues with gps and mms on 0.3. Imilka (the dev has said he's working on an update and he's usually pretty sharpish so think 0.4 will be out v soon.

My note is Thailand version. There's nothing to be worried as long as you're not running yourself into hacking stuffs though I did once and even I did the famous frightening FactoryReset! when I was on Rooted Stock ICS after stuck in booting loops because of playing with VM Heap size tweak (set it below 64m will trigger this, so be careful).
I survive the night and day because of lots sharing in this forum. I learned how to do flashing ROM with Odin and other fearful stuffs I've never even though I would have need to get through it.
So, I recommend you just try using it, as it is first since pre-installed ICS may have something different, with 3 to 5 days/full recharge cycles and then let see any of what will be bothering you.
To have 14+ hours battery life on my Note with normal use (3G/Wifi all times, note taking, Facebook..etc..and of course the XDA app) running stock ICS, I did;
- Rooted
- Battery calibration
- SetCPU profiles
- Leave the SD Card slot empty
- Off auto screen brightness
- Manually control screen brightness, 30% to minimum values are good enough to my eyes
- OFF auto Hovering pen icon (ON only when I really need)
- OFF Screen Capture service (ON only when I really need)
- Freeze un-needed services
It's hard to identify which tweak saves how much % battery life, there are just cumulative tricks from my little experience. Lots of last tweaks are done by TB.

I booted up my DINC for the first time in over a year today! I kind of miss it. Now I have an S3.
It is on Cyanogenmod 7, and I would like to wipe it and have it as a webcam for my dog while I'm at work all day, and she's home alone. I thought it would be a fun and silly project, and put my old phone to good use. I was planning on using Skype with security settings, but it's not compatible with this version.
Can anyone recommend the best simple updated ROM for it? I used to change the ROM about once a month, so I'm pretty experienced at flashing, but I haven't done it (on this phone) in so long that I'm a little behind the times!
Thanks
I would suggest Tiny's CM 10.1. I'm about to flash it and in my experience, his work is pretty great.
