The last few days I've notice that the google play app is using a great deal of battery. For example, my tablet was fully charged last night and I disconnected it from the charger. when I woke up this morning the battery was down to 45%. When I looked at the battery in system settings it showed that google play had used 64% of the battery.
Has anyone seen this? is there a fix? I restored the play app to it factory version. I hope that will help.
thanks.

After the Google I/O announcements yesterday, I noticed I was draining battery a lot quicker than usual. I checked battery stats and Google Services was responsible for almost 70% of my battery usage - and this is continuing into today. See the screenshots below for what I mean:
Battery stats
Google Services battery usage
I haven't used Maps or anything GPS related this morning - I'm not sure what the GPS usage is for. Is anyone else seeing something similar this morning?
Yes! Idk what it is

I had this happened to my phone a couple of days ago. It would not go away until I cleared data for all google apps including the framework. Did a reboot and let it sit there overnight.. When I woke up it was gone. Hope this helps

I unchecked use GPS in location settings and it brought the battery usage down. There was an update to it yesterday and it seems to have started the battery issue again. I had issues with Google Services when I first got the phone.
My maps started going crazy yesterday. It was going higher than screen time in %. This also started yesterday.
Are you missing a Google update btw? My icon for Google Services appears as the google play puzzle piece.
Right now my Maps is at 26% and Google services is at 2%.though 4 hours in I am only down to 89%.

Mines was a puzzle piece also until I launched the play store and google services was updated. Now it's like the one OP showed.
I had the issue of maps being higher than screen on battery usage yesterday even though I hadnt opened maps in days. What I did was force stop maps and restart my phone. All seems well now. I also updated google search/now last night and it didnt affect anything.

Google music constantly runs in the background now. I forced closed, few seconds later it started running again. I never opened google music since I got the phone. I prefer stock music player. So what I did was disable that app since I can't uninstall it.
Same as OP here.
Going into Application manager and clearing the cache for the Google programs (as mentioned earlier) seems to work well...temporarily at least.
Not getting the google services drain, but the new map update added some bull**** wakelock called nlpcollector.. no clue what its doing but its keeping the phone awake about 8 mins out of every hour. Uninstalled the update and it stopped... wtf google?
Installed and ran "Better battery stats" and took a look at the "wakelock" and it Network Location Locator that eating up my battery. I also have a HTC one and the battery lasts all day but the S4 barely makes it till noon.

Do any of you have "Report from this device" enabled in Maps? It will use data constantly.

Thnxs. Turned that setting off but it still drained.....Figured it out. It was a setting in location that says 'wifi and mobile location' that was causing a drain. Turned it off and only lost 3% over night instead of the 20% I usually lost before. The only thing is that now Google Now wont work unless the setting is turned on. But I can live with it for now till an update comes out.

There is a great thread HERE with a solution to this issue. I really think you all should read it and try it out. No more Google Service battery drain from now on. :good:
Yesterday evening I noticed the Group Play app in an odd position on my battery page. I don't remember it being #1 on the chart. The usual is the screen as #1 power consumer, then maybe a few apps and the OS. I did as little as open the app, then I exited. I even force closed it once. I slept the night with the phone connected to the charger and when I woke up it was still there. 4 hours after I woke up it's still #1.
What's going on here? I detect a very small battery drain, though it might just be placebo... BetterBatteryStats doesn't show anything unusual. Anyone else have Group Play behaving oddly?

I've had the same about a week ago. After installing some updates in the samsung store the problem was solved. Check if there are any updates and wait a few days.
Thanks, I'll try that out! I'll post back if it solved my issue.
I'm having trouble finding any updates for Group Play, but I'll keep looking.
There is definitely a decrease in battery life. I've used the phone a lot, but the battery should be no less than 30-40%. It's 15% now.
Hello all. Been lurking on these forums for a while now and decided to register. Some very useful information here!
So I've got a rooted Nexus 4 and I went from stock 4.3 to 4.4 using the factory image from Google (did the full data wipe during the install). I updated the firmware last night and left it plugged in overnight so everything could download and sync. I also have the new Google Launcher installed.
This afternoon, I noticed the battery level drop from around 75% to 50% and then down to 16% in the space of a couple of hours without much use. Just replying to the odd Whatsapp or Hangouts message.
So I plugged it in, and decided to reboot after reading some comments here. And the battery went from 19% to 43% immediately after the reboot.
Is this because the firmware is fresh and it's still "settling in" or is there something else going on?

it seems like battery is not calibrated yet... it happened to me too...
You can try using the battery calibration app from the Play Store: h t t p s : / / play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nema.batterycalibration&hl=en_GB (still can't post links). Just charge your phone up to 100%, open the battery calibration app, press the calibration button and disconnect your charger. It is recommended to let the battery fully discharge after this procedure.
I read that it takes a while for the firmware to settle in (on new phones at least) so I'll give it a few more days before I get some apps that mess around with calibration.
Thanks for the reply though, good to know I didn't screw up something with the flash.
I bought my Note 3 in December from a Samsung Smart Cafe. The phone was amazing throughout the last few months. 2 days on medium usage, amazing WiFi connectivity, awesome gaming experience.
However, 3 nights back I had left the phone (at 50% battery) and gone to bed around 23.00 hours. The next morning I woke up late at exactly 10.00 hrs. When I went to check for any missed calls I found that the battery had completely drained off and the phone was dead. I turned it back on t see that the battery percentage was 1%.
I want to clear out that the following are deactivated on my phone:
1) S-Voice
2) Wake up in lock Screen
When I checked the battery stats I found that the screen was using 56% of the battery. How could that possible be when the screen was switched off the whole time.
Since then every night there has been a drain of about 46% every night. Earlier it used to be only 2-3%.
Could you guys please help me out here? Really tensed
P.S: Last night I left the phone on flight mode and went to sleep. The battery drain was only 1%.
Guys! It happened last night again. This time around, the battery drop-out was around 40%.
Please help me out on this. Any kind of suggestion would be awesome.
Install app called gsam from Google play, one of your app may not allowing your phone to go on deep sleep. If you have installed any app recently try to uninstall.

Hey, the most recent apps that I had installed before the battery went bonkers were:
1) Truecaller
2) BosonX
3) Freeze
I uninstalled all of the three apps.
I have installed GSam battery monitor and the main stat that is abnormal according to me is that the battery discharges 43% even when the screen is off. I have a radio signal usage of about 42% which I think is pretty normal and I do not have bad reception.
Still, last night the battery went down to 80% from a full charged state of 100.

Let Gsam to monitor for two or three more complete charge & discharge cycle so u may come to know where is the problem, some time ext sd card also causing battery drain problem, if u have than try to use phone without sd card for couple of days.
I'm running stock/rooted kitkat and for the last few days I have had dramatic battery drain. I go from fully changed to 10% in less than 4 hours. Has anyone else noticed this lately?
I had this as well. I had to disable location services to get my phone to actually go to sleep.

disabling location services and trying that. thanks
I've had awful battery since i upgraded to 5.0 and Google services are killing the battery. I'll try location services. Will update.
It's definitely not a problem with Location Services. My location is completely turned off 99% (since always) of the time and I also have that topping my battery consumption. Even though, my phone has been deep sleeping without major problems. There's an unknown wakelock that is slowly draining the battery, but anyway I've been getting 4h of SOT everyday without making any sacrifices. If somebody finds out what's the root cause, keep me posted, please.
I've been occasionally getting this for a few weeks too.
If I turn off location, the problem continues for a day or so but then goes away.
This morning I took the phone off charger first thing. I restarted and didn't open screen for two hours. When I checked battery usage it was down 80% and the big consumer was Media and SDcard. Anyone see this before?
It just occurred to me that I may have a corrupt file on internal storage. I'm going to back everything up and start deleting.
Well..I did a factory reset and I still have a major battery drain. It has to be some rogue app but I haven't installed "new" apps lately. Plenty of updates though.
