possible to port multi tasking from note 10.1 - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible to multi tasking app to n7?

bump

It's not true multitasking in the traditional sense from what I can tell. It's just specific apps from Samsung that can do it, not just any app. It should be possible if app developers start implementing it. For instance, the media player app MoboPlayer can continue playing video in a floating window when you press the home button.

Diceplayer already does that floating window on top of other apps or the home screen.

Yeah, that update just came out today and I wrote that post before I was aware of it. Dice player is my player of choice.

But how about multitasking on note taking and reading docs?

Hovernote will float for note taking.

I'm sure that there will be more apps with this type of feature coming out soon.

Nice, so I don't need to get the bad quality 10.1 and wait for n10!!

[Q] Video playback (MX Plyer) soft keys and quality

Hi,
I have a galaxy nexus and I use es file and MX player to stream stuff. On the phone the soft buttons disappear and HD mkv files play really smooth.
The nexus 7 though leaves the soft keys as three small dots and the play back isn't anywhere near as smooth.
Is this simply a case of waiting for MX played to update?
Anyone else even notice?
Cheers

Yeah. Though I think it is a case of ICS versus JB. On my ICS ROM's, the buttons used to disappear, but on JB, I get the three dots as you described.
Same issue with MX Player on Nexus 7, I assume an update will come until then I have started using V player as it does remove the soft buttons and goes full screen.
Only played 720p mkvs with it but they were fine.
Snowdan.

Feel free to leave him feedback. Or you can use gmd hide bar as a temporary solution like I suggested on my thread.

Is there a way to play music from browser with screen off?

Alright so the other night I was showing off my new Nexus 7 to a friend. He's a strong Apple fanboy so naturally we were we comparing several different features between our devices. I showed off Google Now and all that goodness. But I soon found myself missing a feature that he had on his 4S. And that was the ability to play music from a browser or YouTube app while having his screen off.. I'm pretty sure this was the first time I was envious of an iOS product.
Well so the question is, is there any way to play music from a browser while having my screen off? Even when switching tabs in Chrome, the music will stop playing. And no I don't want to download the audio file from the YouTube video using a special app or website.
Thanks for the future advice/info.

Oh yes, the old double tap home button after locking the screen at YouTube trick. It brings up the volume , pause and play buttons, but if you hit play, it streams the audio. Pretty badass

Can you elaborate? Double tapping just seems to bring up the launcher for me.

I see, what an ass.
Anyway, PVSTAR, and to a lesser extent StickIt.
There's an app called nextvid that replaces YouTube and does that.
Compatible on the n7, hope that helps.

Not to worry, Apple is removing YouTube from iOS 6. "We're mad at Google and we're going to take it out on our customers!"

The standard Nexus 7 is not supplied with Flash. Yeah, I know Google decided not to include it because it is yesterday's technology! However it can easily be sideloaded. Just google it. Make sure you install. Version 11.1.115.11. There are problems with some of the other versions floating around.
Have you tried another player like "dice player" or "mx player"?

Thanks,
1. I wasn't talking about flash at all but the Web Video Player itself
If I download these apps, will it replace thw video player on Chrome?

You'll have your choice between the player you install (mx is a good one too) and stock. They won't "replace" stock though, it'll still be an option.

[Q] Dual screen on Nexus 7?

This is my first post, and yes, I really did watch the noob video at the beginning. I browsed through the Nexus 7 General, Nexus 7 Q&A/Troubleshooting, and a few other Nexus 7 forums and didn't find any discussion on this topic. I'm not sure what the term is for what I'm searching for so I admit tthat may have thwarted my search attempts. What I'm referring to is the Galaxy Note's ability to run 2 apps simultaneously, each taking up half the screen. My question is, can that be done on a Nexus 7?

Well, the galaxy note can only do it with s-app's so it's in reality rather gimmicky and not very practical. AOSPA rom has a multi-tasking implementation that you may want to explore, called halo, which works for ANY app. It enables an app to be opened in a small window in the center of the screen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I13bKSTrNX0
With an AOKP nav bar (from AOKP or all-in-one roms) you can add a "last app" button that will allow you to quickly switch back and forth between two apps which I feel like is a much more practical form of multi tasking. Just think of a netbook with a 10" screen, you dont have enough screen real estate to have two windows open side by side most of the time. Being able to toggle between two quickly would be the best thing.
Well, the default 'recent apps' button in Jellybean works fine for that, but I watch a lot of hours-long debates on YouTube and hate the way it pauses the video every time I switch briefly to another app (say, to reply to an email or to open a browser). Is there a way to keep YouTube videos running in the background so the audio keeps playing even when the YouTube app isn't showing on the screen, or indeed even when the screen is locked?

There was a YouTube that had that. Last I saw it was when I used Paranoid Android. It would also keep audio on when the screen was off. I'd if it was a modified YouTube app though.

There is also an app in the market calls floating youtube. Popup player.
It plays your youtube videos in a resizeable window.
It will stay playing on top of other apps.
It does have some bugs, but it is free.

[Q] Netflix and youtube app

Hi,
So xbmc on the ouya is pretty much the best experience i´ve gotten so far on a small setup! love it.
But when i install the netflix apk, its really hard / impossible to navigate with the D-pad, plus the quality of the stream seems to be aimed at mobile phones. Anyone gotten a better APK where you can browse with the d-pad and get a good quality stream?
And youtube, i managed to install the youtube APK, and the streams are looking great, but i cant login, plus it seems i just find the stock mobile version, ive heard that the google tv is alot better, but does it enable log in as well?
Sorry for the wall of text, but these are the 2 missing features i really want.
I have installed the tv versions of both apps and they are easier to navigate. No problem logging in but I do have the google store mod.
Netflix quality can be poor at times.

This was the same version I had already. It still doesn't work well with controller without touch pad and quality still sucks for a tv unfortunately
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Did you ever figure this out? My wife hates me for putting for taking out our ****ty streamer and replacing it with the Ouya. On Netflix, can't scroll through right or left when picking when you want to watch and can't scroll down to select episodes of TV shows when there is more than 5-6.

The easiest solution I have found it just have a bluetooth mouse. You can just drag the screen up and down, etc as if you were touching the screen. It works pretty well.
Or you can use the touchpad of the controller to scroll. Double tab and then drag up. It's a bit sluggish but it works.
The only problem I have is that the playback stops if the controller turns itself off.
using netflix apk 1.8.1
i got the 1.8.1 working with no playback issues, and with some use of ouya control, does not pause when the control turns off.
My only gripe is the subtitles are very small... can any dev can do a modified netflix 1.8.1 apk with bigger fonts?
