I figured I'd toss this out there as a way for us to pull together (hopefully) as a community.
Since ParanoidAndroid is based off of CM10, should the settings in apns-conf.xml (which I extracted and attached - just remove the ".zip" at the end of the file name) be the same on CM10?
I had applied the APN tweaks to CM10 (proxy/port settings) previously, and with this post had compared the info - and it's different. Just wondering if all these changes should be made to the APN settings.
I would imagine that all Sprint devices should have the exact same APN settings, but I could be wrong.

At first that's what I thought but after trying and trying I came to the conclusion that it wasn't going to work so thats why the differences on my xml from the default sprint settings, im not certain if this settings will work for any other ROMs but it works great on the 4.1.1 Paranoid.
Follow the steps carefully and give it another try

I didn't use this (the OP's) tweak because I'm on CM10, not ParanoidAndroid.
All I was asking, is this tweak applicable (settings-wise) to CM10? The tweak for CM9/10 for APN's is not as involved as this; this fix changes a lot more of the settings on the APN page.

Root explorer is pretty straight forward but can be confusing for some people who have never used it before. I have made this list based on the most commonly questions I have read about how to use Rood Explorer. When it won't let you manipulate a file ("this file system is read only") just touch the white button on the top that says "mount r/w"
When you long press files and folders for the sub menu, you can

What I was wondering is how can I install a system app? I know I can move them into system, but how can I install them? Do I have to flash a zip or put them in the rom zip and flash that?

You will need the .apk file for the app you want to install. Put it on your sd card. Then Just copy the .apk file in the system/app folder. you will need to hit the R/W button up top in order to copy/ paste it there. After that it will show up in your app drawer.

This reply is actually incomplete.
Those are the first steps necessary, but the most important step is, once the file has been successfully copied, to long-press on the file (or press "Menu" while the file is highlighted), and choose "Permissions". A series of checkboxes will appear. The Permissions will need to be set to match the other files in /system/app, which will be rw-r--r--. That is, all of the first column boxes should be checked, and the top checkbox in the second column. Any other checkboxes should be unchecked. Once that's done, press "OK", and it will confirm the permissions have changed. The Permissions on the file you copied over should now match the other files in the folder. THEN, after you reboot, the app should appear in your app drawer .

FOR SPRINT GALAXY TABs - DEACTIVATION OF SPRINT ACTIVATION MESSAGE ON BOOT and ACTIVATE DEVICE NOTIFICATIONS.
Ok well the verizon method of bypassing the activation everytime you start the tab doesnt work (vol up once, vol down twice, etc. etc.)
I used the 2nd post in:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=866162
to try and deactivate the activation screen, but it bricked my Sprint Tab. I had to use the rom available here which messes up GPS and modem. But anyway foxmeister mentioned why not just go to the app and delete, freeze, it.
1) I used Root explorer and went to:
/system/app/
2) put the folder in R/W mode (look at top for button)
3) now look for -
sprintadroidextension.apk
4) long hold press it, either copy it and paste it in another folder as backup.
5) go back to /system/app/ and long hold press sprintadroidextension.apk
again and Delete it.
6) put the folder back in R/O mode.
Now restart and you should not see anymore activation messages!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =]
Thank you to : foxmeister, sirmacbeth, rkmj
RKMJ stated you can try to use Titanium Backup and freeze the app instead of deleting it. I just deleted it and it WORKS =].
I also saved a backup in another folder so in case i need the app i'll have it.
I'll try to upload the apk for anyone who needs it later.
I made a separate topic on this because 1) i tried it and it worked 2) the other thread is confusing and can lead you to brick your sprint tab fast.
Finally!!! Something that finally appears to work!
Thank you!

R/W button?
I can't STAND the activation prompt... until today, I just put the tab in Airplane mode, and rebooted. That got rid of it, but I have to manually turn on the WiFi every time i boot it. I'm in position, but can't for the life of me find the R/W mode button, or a way to change the permissions... lil' help please?
Thanks for this! Whether ot works for me or not, I HAVE learned something!
=IP IHI II IL=
is your tab rooted? Are you use root explorer?
when you get over to the /system/app directory, on the upper left/middle side of the screen you'll see a button that might say either R/O or R/W
Click that button, it will switch from read only mode to read/write mode.
It might say Mount R/O or Mount R/W, i forgot exactly how it was.
I don;t have my tab on me, sent it into samsung because I did some stupid stuff nd lost my GPS capability.\
Cheers.
Worked good for me. Thanks!
I'm still going to use my G Tab in Airplane mode for the most part however. I have a hunch it's draining battery when it's locked onto the EVDO network, and there's signal bars in the status bar at the top of the screen.

What is this activation prompt? I have a Sprint Tab and have never seen it.
I'm sure there was some sort of activation the very first time I used the device, but certainly not every time I turn it on.
after deleting the file with root explorer it came back again.
how to delete the file? the tab is rooted
Ok, so I did everything and when I delete the file it comes right back. As soon as I go back to the system folder it seems the program regenerates itself.
Now I am having a problem with the R/O mode switch. When I first open the program I can change it to Mount r/w. However, as soon as I get into the system folder and the app folders the mount r/o button kind of greys out and when I click it nothing happens.
any ideas?
Thanks! This worked well for me. Only change was I used Super Manager rather than Root Explorer to delete the file (since it was free and on the Market for Sprint). If you don't set the directory to R/W is seems to work but dfoes not actually delete the file.
My question now is do I have to be concerend with firmware updates. Will they reset this or fail to apply? TIA
I think I answered this myself - Can't get OTA firmware updates and if you try it tries to activate again!
Future firmware updates are problematic too I hear - they will attempt tp prevent people hacking or rooting the device.

Yes, you can get Titanium Backup for free through the market and freeze the app. Also, for anyone having trouble deleting the app, freezing it through Titanium Backup will produce the same result of removing the activation prompt.
Bump for Woot buyers.
I've been having this problem on my Sprint Galaxy S III. I tried this method but it didn't work - activation came up again right after reboot. I tried searching for activation disabling on the GSIII and this was the only thing I could find. Anybody have any ideas on how to get the SIII to can the activation screen?
ADDED
I tried moving the sprint_installer.apk to my newly created backup folder where I also moved the sprintandroidextension.apk. I checked and that file did not regenerate as it did for another user in this discussion. Both are in the Backup sub-folder I created in the /system/app/ folder. Could it still be seeing these .apk's in there and loading them anyway? I've even picked up the paid version of Titanium Backup so I could try freezing the file (free version won't let you reeze but I use TB enough I figured $3.99 was more than reasonable for use I'd already gotten from it whether it helped this situation or not) but for some reason, it refuses to see the sprintandroidextension.apk file at all but I was able to freeze the Sprint-Installer.apk but it didn't appear to have any effect whatsoever.
I've been using the MIRAGE CM7.2 KANG ever since I got my NC back in January, and I love it. For a while I was using the ICS Tablet Tweaked theme, but decided that I prefer a lot of the look and feel without that theme, especially after later updates made the theme act a little funky.
The one thing I did like about the ICS theme was that the softkey buttons I used were in the ICS order -- back, home, notifications, menu -- while the system theme has (to me) a bit of a less-natural order: home, menu, back, notifications. Is there any easy way I'm missing to change up that order? There are no options I can see for it in the Cyanogenmod Settings menu.
If it'd require some editing of this or that file, I can probably figure it out, but I don't know where to start. Thanks to anyone in advance!
After some research and snooping, I figured this out on my own!
I used APKTool to decompile SystemUI.apk (using this guide, sans the HTC-specific parts), and edited res/layout/status_bar.xml in WordPad by finding the items that looked like this:
Code:
<ImageButton android:id="@id/status_back"
android:background="@drawable/ic_statusbar_back_bottom"
android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" />
...and changing names around (i.e. "back" to "home" in each applicable space).
I also did some editing of the PNG files in res/drawable-mdpi to get a little closer to the ICS flavor. The end result:

Thanks to the CM7 team for an amazing experience on my Nook and to mrg666 for his KANG!
Excellent guide, I was wondering how to change the order.
Can you share your png files, or point me to where you used them from?
CWM Flashable CM7.2 ICS Button Order
I made a flashable.zip to rearange the Soft Keys on CM7.2-RC1 MiRaGe - KANG build specifically 04/16/2012 update. It may work on other builds, but I have not tested. So be sure to backup and try at your own risk.
In the zip is the modified SystemUI with the buttons laid out in the order of ICS
Find the attached file and flash it in CWM to install the new SystemUI with modified softbutton order.
I also included a revert to flash back the stock SystemUI if something goes wrong.
REMEMBER FLASH AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!! THIS IS FOR *CM7.2-RC1 MiRaGe -KANG*
I have only tested this for the above build.
Nice work! I'm glad this was helpful. I'd just been swapping in the new APK using ES File Explorer, but a flashable zip is a great resource.
Here's a .zip file with some of the PNG files I changed. Switching these out with the images in res/drawable-mdpi will black out the "separator" bars around each of the buttons, and also change the Quick Notifications button to the ICS Recent Apps button.
Excellent!!! Thanks for sharing the images. Added your PNG files to the SystemUI along with the changed layout and made it all CWM Flashable.
Same Warnings apply as above...
This is great. I didn't care for the ICS-style layout in joe's ICS theme, but now I'm really used to it.
Will these also change the battery icon to have the % plus the bar icon? I'm missing that from CM9.
If you mean how the battery looks on my screenshot, you can get that through Settings - CyanogenMod settings - Interface - Status bar tweaks - Battery status style, and switching to Percentage. I think that's all there is to it!

Ok, I'll have to try this again. I thought I did that last night but just got the numbers w/o the bar next to it.
You might have to reboot -- I remember having some issues like that.
You guys mind if I use the pngs etc. for a galaxy tab rom? i may share it with others.i'll give proper credits.
I don't mind a bit! Most of what I did was just an extra step or two beyond others working on other Android stuff, so, happy to let that spirit continue.

Hi
i love your work and would like to use order and icons in ICS style. I'm using CM 7.2 RC1 Mirage Kang.
However i'm new to "flashing".. opening zip from file manager gives me option of opening with CWM, which after confirming reboots, but based on my knowledge ican't say anything happens. When restarting these modifications (order, icons) are not applied.
How do i "flash" this zip's correctly?
Hi shamo,
Put the update.zip on your SD card, reboot into recovery (Reboot --> Recovery), select "install zip from SD card" and install from there. That should do it.
Hi!
Thank Kybard for the tip.. managed, though the naming convention was actually update-.zip .. wouldn't work without the "-".
However, now on installing, my whole status bar is gone missing.. changed DPI from 160 to 200, disabled full screen in nook tweaks, but too no avail. Any other suggestions?
Thanks

You should have been able to click install zip from sd and selected the zip using the volume buttons to move around. I wouldn't matter what the name of the file is, as long as the extension is a *.zip. You would manually find the file and select it. Then the "flash" would occur.
What Rom version or build are you on? As stated the .zip was intended to work with [CM7.2-RC1] MiRaGe - KANG build of CyanogenMod April 16 2012 release. It may cause stability issues with older releases of the rom.
Have you went to settings and Tablet tweaks to check the settings there? Make sure the status bar is set to always visible.
@Philux-X: I had the expected ROM [CM7.2-RC1] MiRaGe - KANG build of CyanogenMod April 16 2012. Nothing special added as in modules changed, removed, added. Of course there are some 20 apps installed, but none to change UI.
I went through all settings I knew of (Cyanogen mod, ADW launcher), also disabling and re-enabling status bar settings , but no luck. I restarted launcher as well as the NC. Nothing.
Then I gave up and updated to 05052012 which brought the status bar back, but of course the order the usual, not the wished for.
I won't try changing soft buttons till next ROM update, when I have the option to overwrite it again in case soft button update does to my NC the same as the first time.
Thank you all for your effort.
shamo, if you were willing to try one more time, you could just move the SystemUI.apk manually to your system/apps folder. It's a bit more convoluted and complicated than the nice update.zip that Philux is providing, but it gets the job done. I've attached the SystemUI apk I just used for the same purpose on the new test 05062012 build, and it's working without a hitch, which I would imagine means it'd work just as well on the 05052012 build.
Just move the apk to your SD card, use ES File Explorer to move the file to /system (NOT /apps), find the file in /system and change the file permissions (hold press, select "Properties" from the pop-up menu, click "Change") to rw-r--r--, then move the file into system/apps and overwrite. SystemUI will repeatedly Force Close, but you can still pull up the shutdown/restart menu (it can be a bit of a pain to actually hit the buttons in that menu, though). Reboot and everything should work.
Since 05062012 is available I might give the Philux's update.zip another go.
Or try the "dirty" method you kindly explained. Thanks
ps: I'm running ROM from SD card, not from emmc in case that would mather.. I wouldn't expect it though..

It doesn't work as expected. Speech recognition and responses are very cool, but the app gets stuck almost every time after the first response. :-(

Samsung Galaxy S III S Voice leaked and if you have ICS rom in your phone then you can test of S Voice. S Voice has the promise to be one of the better voice command options for Android as compare to iphone siri
It's unclear what devices can and can't run the app right now. So far so you can take a chance to test it and report it at comment section
you can also install it by
1. Unrar the file and copy the apk file
2. Copy to system/app folder
3. Change permission to rw-r-r
restart phone.
• You MUST HAVE ICS ROM.
• If the apk is giving you parsing error then move the apk under data/app and set permission via Root Explorer or something as,

To Fix EDIT MOD :
To fix the network error, edit two lines in the build.prop to add GT-I9300
The 2 lines should look like the following:
ro.product.device=GT-I9300
ro.product.model=GT-I9300

you can try else you have to copy app in system /app
I got it installed, placed in the system/app folder. Changed the build.prop files. I still get a DC after asking it to call someone.
Any ideas or thoughts on getting it to stop fc-ing? Also I find this weird, I had 45% power before hand. Now I'm at 17%. Check out the drop in my screenshoot.

To get the S-Voice to work..
1A. You need ICS, if your on GB, ttyl
1B. You NEED rooted device
1C. Do NOT directly install like a regular APK
2A. Open the apk file on your PC with WinZip / 7Zip
2B. Extract "libsvoxtts.so" from \lib\armeabi\
2C. Transfer both these files to your ICS device or you can push via adb
3A. Copy the voicetalk.apk (i tested with this name) to /system/app
3B. If there no space, remove some apks not required pref by Titanium Backup
3C. Copy the voicetalk.apk with say ES Explorer or via ADB PUSH
3D. Change permission of voicetalk.apk to rw,r,r
3E. Press and hold >> Properties >> Change (ES Explorer)
3F. Copy the libsvoxtts.so to /system/lib (do check this is required or not)
4A. Edit build.prop (with build.prop Editor or manually)
4B. Edit property ro.product.device with value GT-I9300
4C. Edit property ro.product.model with value GT-I9300
5A. Restart Phone
5B. Start S Voice from launcher
5C. I saw during setup trying to change Hi Galaxy to your own command crashed the app.
So I was playing with Photosphere on my Nexus S, and a thought came in.
Samsung, or any other OEM's that make Android Camera, should work hard to bring 4.2 update to their Android Cameras.
Photosphere would be a standout/luring feature to promote their Android Cameras which are somewhat a new kind of product.
While Photosphere is still in beta and doesn't stitch very well, I think people still would like to try it out since it is something new and exciting.
Samsung, Nikon, you heard?
Hurry up before someone does it first.

Hi Robb
I followed your instructions and was able to download the App + Lib onto my PC and extracted the WinRar files.
I've copied them to my Galaxy Camera's Ext SD card and can copy them to the system directories.
But I'm not sure how to change permissions on the files.
Can you please explain how to do this? I'm a noob to Android.
Thanks.
I use photo sphere too on my galaxy camera and work fine.
So for your problem, you need to change right of the file like say on the link provide.
For doing that, you need a file explorer with admin right.
I use ES file explorer.
Once you install this file explorer, you need first to allow him to access to root, for that go to : Settings
Then on the boot you will found : Root settings
Enable everything there.
Then after enable the first one, you get a pop up inform you to agree to give right on Super SU. Do Yes and after agree to give right.
When done, go to your folder app and lib where you copy the file, found the file one by one and made a long push on the file for show a menu and choice option on bottom "Properties" that open a new windows.
There click on "change" button and enable everything in "Read" column and on user for "write" column then click "ok" and again "ok".
Do that for all files (5 if I remember well) and reboot the Camera.
You will got 2 new icon for camera and galery
Hope I'm clear ^^

Thanks David.
I've downloaded ES File Explorer and am having difficulty copying the files to the system/app directory.
First I connect the SGC to my PC and after the files are extracted with WinRar I copied them to the Download folder on the Camera.
Then using ES File Explorer I navigate to the Download folder and tried to copy/paste the files to the System/app directory but it gave the message that copy "GoogleGallery.apk" failed? The Gmscore.apk was copied OK.
What am I doing wrong?
I'll recheck the Root settings but I think I did that right as I can access the Root directory in ES File Manager now.
BTW, could it be because my SGC is not Rooted?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Yes I think you need root your device for get right to change file in system/app folder or even right of file.
So first root your device, very easy for the moment due of Eqynox issue, uberNoobZA and cybriks on the forum confirm he can root with the tools from Chainfire.
You can read the full topic about root Galaxy Camera here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1995245
Or go to page 5 firectly if you want use the method from Chainfire where uberNoobZA and cybriks confirm it work
The link about how to use the Chainfire tools :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2050297
This method should be the easy way compare to the one use Odin, so you should be able to use it, it's only an app you run and do eveything alone
So do it and then try again to copy file and change right and you probably can use Photo Sphere (I like this function ^__^)
