also only useful if you are the administrator of your DHCP scope. If you go somewhere else say your place of work and you have no control over your lease or if the wireless system only allows DHCP (the one i run does) then good luck to you.

Am having a rooted Micromax Canvas HD A116. In my college hostel am having a WIFI connection. The problem is that when i connect my phone to WIFI, the phone gets connected but there is no internet access over my phone. The WIFI signal bar should change it's colour to blue from grey but it remains same. Also am able to use the same WIFI connection over my laptop without any problem.
I have tried rebooting & restoring device but none helped. Also tried "WIFI fixer" from Google Play but that too could not resolve the problem.

I had a similar issue. No problem with the server. Wifi perfectly works on my pc but my Micromax hd a116 running android 4.2.1 remains grey. I later found out it was a problem with google sync. It seems google accounts needs to sync first. So just go to settings > under accounts, google. And wifi should turn blue

Don't you think about amplification of router signal? Sometimes is good solution. I used such for my PC and I know there are same things for mobile devices like this wilsonamplifiers.com. It's compact enough and quite cheap. Also you can try some soft thet can overclock your antenna

Interestingly, this seemed to work. Thanks:good::good:
I think I just found a fix. Try this:
Go to your wifi settings
Press and hold the WiFi you're connected to
Modify Network
Tick to show advanced options
Just change the IP Settings to DHCP
Leave the others as is and save.
Disconnect and reconnect WIFI
It should work if there are no issues with the WIFI router.
I had thesame issue on my Micromax CHD
Hey,
how do I disable draft n / 802.11n on Quarx' CM11?
I can't find tiwlan.ini in /system/etc/wifi so what to do??
Thx.
SOLUTION: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50426027&postcount=7
Code:
/system/etc/wifi/hostapd.conf >
ieee80211n: Set to 1 to enable 802.11n support, 0 to disable it
Changing this line from g to n helped cyrus:
Code:
hw_mode=g

Sure: I always had trouble (already with CM7) with a FritzBox router and with CM7 it helped a lot to disable that. I can't disable it in the router, so I wanted to try that option.

I guess you probably know about alternative firmware for FritsBox routers, but if not, have a look at this site: http://freetz.org/
Perhaps this firmware will let you better configure your router.

Thanks. Yes I do know about that but modifying the router is not an option since I don't have access to all routers I can use as an access point, thats why I pointed out that I can't change the router settings. I need to disable it on the device and that was possible under CM7.
You want to disable the n mode because of the poor performance of Wi-Fi? I ask because I too have poor Wi-Fi performance but no matter what I do changing channels, modes, etc. my Defy doesn't want to download for example a nightly from Quarx site. Is downloading ~5% then stops think then download again and so on. With other 2 phones(Samsung and an old HTC hd2) this is not happening the download is continuous.

No, reason is that sometimes the Defy seems to interfere with other clients in the network (Macbook, other smartphone etc.). Sometimes I do have interupted downloads though.
But I think I just figured out where to change that:
Code:
/system/etc/wifi/hostapd.conf > hw_mode=g
.
If that is correct, it is already in a legacy mode and doesn't use 802.11n.
There seems to be another setting:
Code:
ieee80211n: Set to 1 to enable 802.11n support, 0 to disable it
so I will try disabling that tonight. Exciting!!
Source: http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Documentation/hostapd
Code:
/system/etc/wifi/hostapd.conf > hw_mode=g
Changing this to
Code:
/system/etc/wifi/hostapd.conf > hw_mode=n
I have solved the interrupted download. Thank you very much.

well that shouldn't be possible!
Reason: The N setting shouldn't be set there but there:
Code:
ieee80211n: Set to 1 to enable 802.11n support, 0 to disable it

Maybe you disabled it alltogether because the switch doesn't exist and as a fallback the device uses 802.11b now... I don't know. If it's good, it's good!

It's not solving the problem.
After investigating more I have seen that after a reboot the Wi-Fi performance is good ~2Mb/s. But as soon as the device enters in deep sleep the download goes down at 500kb/s and is interrupted a lot. Can anyone else could confirm that?
I have tested with quarx2k.ru site.

I have found a way to get WiFi tethering to work on Android L.
The app is called "WiFi Tether Router" on the Play store.
Note: The app is $2.50
The app didn't work before but it was updated today so I tried it again and it worked perfectly. (Watched Netflix on my tablet and YouTube on my laptop.)
Has anyone else tried it and also worked for them?
Also, if anyone knows of a free alternative that works on android L I'd appreciate it if you told me.

Not to be rude, I appreciate the heads up but this belongs in apps. Especially since its premium.
It doesn't work for me, did you have to alter any of the settings?

Make sure your APN is set to ipv4 instead of IPv6. Also in advanced WiFi settings , unchecked "scanning always available".
I'm on Rogers using L ... I cannot get this app to work. I've set it to ipv4 and unchecked "Scanning always available" but I still can't get it to work.
Anyone have this working on AT&T or Rogers and if so did you change any settings in the app? (there are quite a few in the app)

buraktamturk has discovered a solution to tethering on L:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54067884&postcount=3041
Lightbulb Tethering Fix
Here is solution for tethering (both usb and wireless).
Tether just as usual. Then disable tethering and re-enable it. (this step is important otherwise dhcp server is not started)
After doing that both your phone and computer will not connect internet, because of invalid routing table. (internal bug from l preview)
just connect to the phone shell with 'adb shell', or terminal software on android (connectbot or android terminal emulator will fine)
Code:
[email protected]:/ $ su
[email protected]:/ # ip route | grep rmnet0 | grep link
10.64.70.120/29 dev rmnet0 proto kernel scope link src 10.64.70.124
Note the gateway here (10.64.70.124), and set this default gateway. (and yes, my provider gives me nat'ed private ip addresses)
Code:
[email protected]:/ # route add default gw 10.64.70.124 dev rmnet0
Enjoy the tethering!
Note your phone must be rooted otherwise you will not able to pass beyond 'su' command.

I packaged up the following in a sh script that gets run with Tasker when enabling tethering (I use it for my Nexus 7 in my car):
Code:
#!/bin/sh
ip=$(ip route | grep mnet0 | grep link | sed 's/.*src //')
route add default gw ${ip} dev rmnet0
I saved the above in /sdcard/gateway.sh
I then run a command in Tasker:
Code:
/system/bin/sh /sdcard/gateway.sh
I "think" this is working. Since I ran it manually, the IP is now stored in the routing table. If the IP switches and tethering suddenly stops working, ill know it's not functioning anymore and will tweak the script.

Well thats fortunate? I cant get it to work on mine. It connects but does not transfer anything.
Weirdly the stock android L tether works for me but it uses my 5gb data..
I got tethering working just fine on L using the same tethering.dun.required mod as on kitkat
No need for any app
