You say you adjusted wireless settings. Did you adjust the wifi sleep policy? It is under the advanced menu in wireless settings. You should set it to stay on while screen is off.

it was set to turn off everytime the screen turns off, so i set it to Never turn off... is di not work. still the same thing happening.. and it gave me another setting to try "only when plugged in" and i set it to that, Saved & reboot.. still the same again. so i set it back to never. saved and turned the nook off for about 10mins. turned it back on.... still the same, still have to go into the setting and turn it on
Anyone else have any ideas??
Ok, it seems that something went wrong with your flashing process causing WiFi modules to malfunction. Go to Recovery->Data Wipe, then flash again or reinstall to SD Card. Start all over again. And for your apps, use Titanium Backup.

Does anyone know how to disable this feature? Every time my screen goes blank, and I turn it back on, I have this icon in the top left hand corner with a red x through it saying "turn wifi off". I want my wifi to come back on when I unlock the device, but I forced to turn it off then back on. Extremely annoying...
I may be wrong but check in the settings/applications/ manage applications and you can delete it from there. I think its called wifi status.

Just go into wifi settings and pres menu and go into advanced and set the sleep policy to "never". It saves a lot of battery. That way it doesn't disconnect when the screen goes off, nd then you'll only see it when you really have no wifi

You want your Wi-Fi connection to be available when you unlock your screen. From your Home screen:
Hit the Menu button & then go to Settings -> Wireless & networks -> Wi-Fi settings
Hit the Menu button (again) and select Advanced
Set the Wi-Fi sleep policy to Never
That stops the Wi-Fi radio from sleeping when the screen is turned off. This will likely solve your issue.
tried that. still there looking me in the face mocking me.... lol
What kernel are you using? Apparently this is an issue with Xtreme kernel.
may very well be. It was happening in 1.1, and now I have 1.2 (xtreme kernel) on syndicate rom.

You can remove wifi status using these steps. I do it every flash.

This is a known bug with xtreme kernel. The wifi goes to sleep with the screen off even with it set to never. Semi sporadic, and worse on 1.0.2 than 1.0.1 in my experience.
Hi
I have an HTC Desire HD
I have changed a setting somewhere (i remember doing it) which switches off wifi when the screen times out. I did it on purpose at the time thinking it would come on again when the screen was unlocked. Wrong!
The problem is I now can't find or remember the exact setting I changed!
Could be powersaving, wifi, screen lock or any other non-obvious setting!
I have tried everything I can think off. At the moment, everytime the screen goes off, so does wifi. Very annoying
I would really appreciate any help
Mark
I wasn't aware there was an option for this is froyo! Unless you're referring to the WiFi sleep policy? Try menu > advanced when in WiFi settings but I think this only allows you to determine the time out period, not the condition (ie the screen going off)... however, there are apps that will allow you to do this. Are you sure you haven't installed something that's causing this?
Go to wifi and press menu. Its under advanced settings.
Hi
Thanks for your tips. Found it!!
It wasn't in the Wifi, or screenlock settings (I had looked at everything on those!!)
I remembered that had installed the Battery Booster app and then messed with the Battery Teak settings to turn off wifi on screenlock
Actually a handy app, if you set it up properly, which I hadn't!!
Thanks once again for the prompt
Mark
don't forget after change setting hit menu button again to save the change lol
Hi,
I just installed Gingerblur 3.1, and I have a problem with the WiFi (I can't post in the original thread because they are asking for at least 10 messages to start posting in that forum, and I think with all my respect that that's a ridiculous).
Back to the problem. My WiFi is automatically activated after I unlock the screen, even if I disable it before, when lock then unlock the screen, it's on again. That's kind of frustrating because it consumes a lot of battery.
Thanks for any help.

I think the OP is talking about the fact they don't want it coming on at all so as to save battery.
I turn my WiFi off when at work to save battery life because our WiFi isn't setup properly yet here. I have no issues with it turning on until I want it to. I too am on GingerBlur 3.1. Sorry I can't help, and I can't duplicate your problem. When I disable my WiFi it stays off.

After reading the op again, I think your right. I misunderstood. My WiFi also stays off when I have it disabled.
http://goo.gl/cVWaQ is a great app to help you remember to turn off your wifi when its not in use. The Power Control widget is a great help as well.
Running CM7.1 on my nook color, is there someplace I can change the default setting for wifi to be ON after boot automatically? Right now I have to manually enable it after every reboot.

AFAIK there is no setting for wifi to be on after boot.
Long press home screen and select Widgets. Select power widget. You can customize the power widget to include toggles for wifi, bt, sync, dimmer, flashlight, etc.
Not exactly what you're asking for, but I use Green Power to force wifi on whenever my unit is turned on. It has essentially the same effect, though you do have to wait for GP to start up on reboot. I believe Juice Defender and others can do the same thing.
This is a bug in airplane mode.
Download Android Assistant from the market and then uncheck airplane mode. You should now have wifi on at boot.

I had CM11 on my Nexus 4 and did a full wipe, then flashed the official Lollipop image (using flash-all.sh script). The process went smooth, without any problems.
Now, I am having WiFi issues. When I turn on WiFi from quick settings it changes the icon, but doesn't connect to the network yet. If I try to access WiFi settings it opens them up, but I can see only the actionbar and a blank white screen. No networks shown. Sometimes I even get "The app is not responding dialog". It sits like this for about 30-60 seconds and after that it connects to the network and I am able to access WiFi settings.
Sometimes I can't turn WiFi on at all. Quick settings don't change the WiFi icon to the ON state. If I try to turn it on from the Settings, the switch does literally nothing - not even "Turning WiFi on..." shows up.
I tried to reflash the system - still get these issues. Tried reflashing just the radio module - didn't fix it. No idea what to do. KitKat worked just fine.
Does anyone else have similar problems?
Same issues, but on a Nexus 10.
I have exactly the same issues as you, but on a Nexus 10. Running LRX21P 5.0 Lollipop.

I used Wugfresh 1.9.6
Downloaded and installed LRX21T
Did a complete wipe (cache and factory reset)
Did a selective restore of ~75 apps from Google backup
Played with the machine for hours.
Rebooted, now got no wifi
Anyone suggest a workaround?
EDIT: I came across this post in the Nexus 5 Thread , where he suggests changing your router's channel to something below 12. I changed mine from 13 to 8 and now wifi seems to be working.
EDIT2: Sadly the above was a red herring. The problem seems more complex. Hopefully Google will release a fix soon

I don't think my problem depends on the available WiFi networks. But thanks for the response.
I have the exact same issues, Wifi doesn't turn on at all. It doesn't matter if I press the quick settings button or the button in the menu. It says Wifi on, but nothing happens. After the screen goes dark, Wifi turned itself off again.
Any suggestions? Thank you!

I'm having the exact same issue. Wiped with ADB and flashed LRX21T factory image from Google's website. No error codes during flash.
Wifi is great - if you leave it on all the time. As soon as it turns off, it will NOT turn on. I get no error message, no timeout like it usually does when Wifi isn't working properly, no crash report. Nothing. Just a stalled Wifi acting like it's turning on. If I exit Wifi settings page, and come back, it shows as being off. Turn it on, and it just hangs the same way.
So frustrating.
It's for sure not the network I'm on, as it also doesn't turn on when I'm not near Wifi, or when I'm at a friend's house. Rebooting the phones makes the Wifi work again...until it turns off for ANY reason. Then we're back at square 1.
I'm having this same issue...
My WiFi seems to turn itself off. Then there is no way I can get it to turn back on unless I reboot the phone.
Very frustrating.
I have the same issue.I sideloaded the OTA and everything went great,no errors during the installation.I was on stock 4.4.4.
When I turn on the Wifi it takes around 30 sec to connect to a network. If i click on the Wifi menu in the setting it usually freezes or I get a black screen. After that Wifi works fine, but another thing I noticed it doesn't remember new networks.I don't know if a factory reset would help...
Anyone find a solution yet? Did a factory reset eliminate the problem for somebody?
I got the same thing. Currently, I'm using Power Toggles to do the on/off setting.

I'm facing a different issue. Whether I have WiFi on or off, it always appears active in the battery usage stats ('scanning always available' is off)
WiFi was off when the screen was off from about 3 am to 2 pm.

I am having the same issue. very frustrating. it was working perfectly last night on my home network, but now it wont connect to my work network. it has the same issues as everyone else. the wifi toggle will turn on, but it will not show any networks. then after a couple of seconds it will turn itself off.
^^i am having that issue as well. the battery usage stat page is showing wifi as on even though it is off.
Have the same issue. After some standby time, turning Wifi on again, it showed me networks where I am not close to anymore and didn't show me the actual networks where I am right now. This seems to be a serious bug that needs fixing. I don't want to reboot my phone to fix it. Didn't Google delayed the Lollipop-Update because of some Wifi issues?
I have all the symptoms listed in this thread. I filed a bug report too: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=80028&q=LRX21T
Found this thread when this problem popped up for me after flashing the factory images one by one. Might try to find a source-built ROM using a later version to see if it got fixed.
