It says there is no mobile hotspot feature with the unlimited data. If I root my phone, tether it, and use it for my internet connection at home anyways, is there anything they can/will do about it?

Pretty sure they can and will. You should read their terms of service

:good:

I would love to switch to an unlimited plan but T-Mobile doesn't have very good reception where I live.

No they can only moniter your phone if you have the stock ROM on it...custom ROMs will let you tether problem free

I currently have unlimited with 5gb of high speed. Does this mean I have to change my data plan? I hate the slow speed I get cause I use my 5gb pretty quickly. No cap would be amazing.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app

I would switch to tmobile, but I don't think it will work very fast with my desire hd. any info would be good

That's funny because my moms GS2 is running a custom ROM and T-Mobile would direct her to a page telling her to upgrade to mobile hotspot.

Do u use tethering a lot? I hardly use tethering and try to use wifi whenever I can but I still usually wind up with about 2gb of data each month. I figure if I didnt use wifi I would be up to about 5-6

Just don't change your plan... It is regulated that they have to Grandfather plans that will in turn be less of a service to the customers. If you don't change your plan, they can't change your data.

@SysAdmin-x. I stream lots of videos and radio when I'm out of the house so I can't use wifi. I use tether sometimes. Also I should be using wifi when I'm at home but I always forget about it lol.

You never get overage charges from Verizon? I have heard that over 5GB that they start throttling back, and supposedly would charge people.
Sys... Never been charged extra... If I ever do ill raise cain because I bought an UNLIMITED plan, they do throttle which was noticeable on stock, but the apex untether patch really does seem to work quite well.

I've never been charged extra either. But they do throttle you but I've accually never noticed it.

I've never been charged for overage either. I've had my data plan for a few years now so I guess I'm grandfathered in. I have noticed ever since iPhone 4 came out on Verizon the 3g has been awfully slow. I used to get under 100ms ping with about 2 megabit download speeds. Now the pings are over 500 Ms and speeds arent even hitting 1megabit. Pretty unacceptable considering how much we pay for these devices and data plans. They need to get their **** together.

Just did a 3g speed test and it's getting better. I use the speedtest.net app. Ping - 379 Ms down - 1.31 mbps up - .35 mbps. So it's better but still nowhere near the 3g speeds we pay for. I'm in Montana on Verizon. I think they throttled everyone up here so their network would handle the new load from the iPhone 4.

+10. Why would you say unlimited 4g? Then it turns into hspa+ then 2gb of "unlimited data" then slow me down to 1G.? Wtf? I went to simple mobile after that.....then I went to sprint - where customer service is a plus. If your phone gets messed up you can go to a repair center to get it fixed n replaced. AND YOU GET REAL UNLIMITED 4G........DATA THROTTLE DOESNT EXIST IN SPRINT......#IMJustSaying

1/4 of your normal speed? your normal speed must be very sloooow.. when i get throttled, my speed gets reduced to 56kbps. my unthrottled speed averages from 5-7mbps. i solved getting throttled by changing my plan to 10gb data before being throttled. whats your data plan? maybe you need to raise it. btw, im with tmobile.
I went thru the same thing as a Sprint customer but I called n complained & they did some type of refreshing n viola I was gOod

LTE means nothing if coverage is low. Matter of fact, Wimax is theoretically proven to be faster than LTE. Don't know why people think LTE is so great.

I'm on my hacked og using boost. Its on the standard plan, $50 unlimited. The real Android plan is $55 but since my donor wasn't android I cut it down. Had it 3 months, and in 3 more it will be $45. It's a hard plan to beat for the money.
But I can say, I looked at the new evo and just like sprint ...they wanted an extra $10 a month for service. Wtf man, that would bring it to $65....

Metropcs is stronger than Sprint in the LA area and offer a phone like LG Motion. It's a decent phone and if not, they are adding new phones every month.

AT&T capping their data on i9300

for 4 years now I've been on medianet, using international Samsung phones, today I got a message .. guess we can cross unlimited and cheap data off our 'benefits of owning a i9300 on att'
AT&T Free Msg: This is a courtesy reminder that you have used 90% of your 3GB data plan allowance for the bill cycle ending on 10/12/12. Any overage is charged @ $10/1GB. Learn more at www.att.com/dataplans. Tip: Mobile Data is unlimited over Wifi.

That's because we paid a much lower rate of either $10 or $15 for unlimited data.
At&t won't let you keep your current plan if you buy an LTE phone. You must upgrade to an "lte" data plan, which are only offered with 300mb, 3gb, and 5gb limits.

Dang - so do they have the IMEIs for the i9300s?? How'd they switch you over? Unless you're a really heavy user and they just figured that no phone on MediaNET should be consuming that much data as they're all dumb phones right?

Solavei???

So I'm on solavei, and I'm debating switching back to tmobile itself. Reason being I only get no more than 14.80 mbps, speed test goes that high and just stupid like it hit a wall. I'm using a t999 s3, do you think I'd get faster speeds on actual tmobile?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
The speed will be identical to T-Mobile if you switch. So you would be paying more for the exact same experience.
You don't believe it'll be any different since they only piggy back off tmobile?

I read somewhere on xda that tmobile has a statement saying they make sure to take priority over other mvno companies.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Just for future reference, I did a test today and can confirm a couple things. I did a few speed tests with my solavei SIM card sitting my phone in one spot, got about 380-1400 ping. Switched in a tmobile SIM using three truly unlimited plan and ping blew me away, it was constantly 80-99ish. As for down and up speed I was getting about 6-13 on solavei with about 1.5 up constant. And on the tmobile SIM I got about 10-14, but I expect faster once my phone number port is complete I was told to expect it being choppy. So far I notice a huge difference in use around town, as I was running errands all day.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Also, even pegging out at 14.7 mbps (for some reason solavei doesn't let you go faster) I couldn't even watch a 2 minute YouTube video, now I can not only click hd version, but it doesn't keep buffering.

What APN are you using on Solavei?
I don't recall but it was a specific one that was sent to me via a automatic text from solavei. My number finally fully ported today and I'm seeing way bigger speeds, very happy I spend the extra $12 for tmobile truly unlimited plan. I can confirm solavei sets a max speed of about 14.7mbps, not bad but tmobile is noticeably better when actually using my data

Nick, I'm seeing Solavei speeds of up to 14mb/s too, which is personally plenty fast for me. When you consider that Tmobile's $50 plan slows down data speeds after 500mb, Solavei compares better
Solavei speed tests: http://www.4gmobileshare.com/solavei-speed-test/
I can see where you would think that, but a couple of things. Solavei is not just $49, the tax brings it to $58. So by that logic for $12 more you can get access to ALL tmobile towers, priority on your service, and no speed limits. Being a tech guy you wouldn't want to have a speed limit. The other thing is customer service, and not feeling like you're trying to be a part of a pyramid scam when you want to just sign into your dashboard abd pay your bill.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Solavei is only a mvno, and they only piggy back towers, and at that, only some of the towers.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Again, what APN are you guys using? I wonder if you changed APNs if it would improve?
I've used and tested every variation that was provided, including the dual apn's, but slavery sends an automatic apn setup through a special text message, which is what worked the best. I'm on T-Mobile note, but if you really want nee to get that apn for you, you can pay for the solavei plan, cuz I'm not doing that again lol.
