Chome on Nexus 7 vs. Chrome on phone - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, my Thunderbolt finally got some ICS love...and I installed Chrome right away, as it's my browser of choice.
I love it on the desktop, I love it on the phone, on the Nexus though...meh. It doesn't even tell me how much of a page has loaded. On the phone there's a bar that moves across. On the Nexus, it's a swirling dealy that just tells you it's doing something.
I assume it changes based on the DPI, but I was wondering if anyone had any insight into why or how it could be made better?
Thanks

TouchWiz UX on Galaxy Tab 10.1

*UPDATE*
I have updated my thread in development with a download and guide for installing TouchWiz UX on our Tab 10.1's.
See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15516290#
Okay this is getting ridiculous...!
Currently there is a TouchWiz UX rom avaliable for...
Asus EeePad:
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile...ouchwiz-rom-port-on-asus-eee-pad-transformer/
Acer A500:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1143368
Tab 10.1v:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1155023
All of which appear to be based off a 3.1 Rom for OUR device... So why is it I can't find a single thing about installing 3.1 TouchWiz UX on OUR 10.1!?
i feel you brother this is crazy no devs i guess on the 10.1 i need to start going to school and learn my self lol
That's okay. I'm pretty meh regarding TouchWiz. Has kept me away from sammy phones. I know, ROMS, but when you lean over the bleeding edge, there are no ROMS.
Just saw this video that shows all the features of touchwiz. I don't care how much people want to know it. If half the stffntheynjust showed works without force closing I'll beeee soooool stoked. It impressed the pants off me. http://youtu.be/hlLP3RXkmUQ
" hang on to your dookie, its about to get spooky "
Yay! Managed to get it booting on my tab.
I've been using it about 15 minutes and I love it! The book reader is great... I love the bounce scrolling and the new colours are very nice. Everything has a better feel and still seems super fast.
I might get some instructions up tomorrow for how I did it. Bed time for me now though.
The thing I want to know is if it has improved video playback.

I'm looking forward to the Allshare app, official DLNA support, the Media hub, and the mini app tray/bar.
It definitely adds another level to the tablet and will impress many consumers. I haven't actually owned anything Samsung beside cameras but I'm impressed so far with this tablet.

Logically the 10.1v rom should not be hard porting, but i havent looked into it.

I have a 3G Galaxy Tab 10.1 with Touchwiz (sold in Sweden).
While I don't mind some of the apps that Touchwiz brings I hate their OS-wide changes, while iOS-style overscrolling doesn't really change anything their altering of default UI element does. They have changed buttons, dialogs, menus, fonts and more making many applications look odd as they don't have the same design as Samsungs own apps.
They have also changed they background of the status bar so when it is in "light out" mode it is still very noticeable (default is completely black, Samsung is grey with a light border on top). This is very annoying when watching movies!
All in all I rather be without Touchwiz.
It's only a theme - it'll be customizable at some point

My only annoyance with TouchWiz UX so for is that it has that gray bar at the bottom rather than black... I get that it fits there theme but black still blends in the the tablet better... We'll be able to change that later though once the rom is deodex..
Aside from that I love all the other changes. Everything just looks more 'styled' and less 'neon' which I love.
Their eBook application is the best app I've ever used on Android.. except maybe Tasker..
Social Hub app is a great Twitter/Facebook integration.
Their widgets are very cool except they seem to slow down the homescreen a tad due to their large size (don't worry! you can always remove them )
The mini apps are so very cool. You can bring up a little calculator/note taking app/calendar/and more and move it to the side of the screen and keep interacting with whatever app you're running under it while it stays on the screen! Awesome feature that Google should definitely look at adding.
Copy and Paste now has a large clipboard that you can build up multiple items on!
There are even problems in Honeycomb 3.1 that are now fixed
e.g. In 3.1 stock if you want to change your lockscreen wallpaper to a custom image from your gallery you had to go to settings> display>screen settings>lockscreen wallpaper now you can do it from the top-right Plus or long-press home screen
The browser is actually smoother and handles pinch gestures much better and has some cool new features you can enable in settings.
There is motion control like tilting your tablet to change homescreens when placing a widget
The quick control toggles are much faster and to get into Settings is now only 2 taps rather than 3.. another thing Honeycomb should have had from the start.
And much more things that I'm missing... This is definitely an upgrade.
I'm uploading a rom now and will update my Thread in development when it's uploaded so everyone can flash TouchWiz UX.

The 10.1v rom is actually a port of a rom from OUR device... It's a bit silly to port a port from our device back to it...
Update with Download and Guide
Hey I have updated my Development post with a download and guide for flashing TouchWiz to our Tab's... Check here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15516290#
Any update on when touchwiz will officially be released for us? I know Samsung set the hard date of "coming soon", but I didn't know if there was any further update.
The screenshot button is useless and gets in the way. If the screenshot app was combined with the note app it would be great. You would pop up the notes and annotate whatever is on the screen and save it all.
why is everything so fricken big? I dont see the reasoning behind all the text being like 90pt font...

Anyone heard of Cornerstone ROM?

My friend owns an Asus Transformer Prime and just flashed Cornerstone ROM on it. It is really freaking awesome and brings multi-tasking to a whole new level. You can have the home screen on the left side and have two windows on the right side vertical with two apps open, truly running at once.
I would love to see Cornerstone ported to the Note, with the big screen it would be a great asset to the phone.
Anyone else agree or have thoughts?
This is wat Google coughed up on Cornerstone. No details on how to get it on the Note, but just some explanation of what it does along with a video. Might trigger some interest:
http://www.onskreen.com/cornerstone/
Edit. Found this also and this might be our best bet:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...ne-and-bring-true-tablet-multitasking-to-cm9/
has to be baked into a rom from source.

Re: [ROM] Codename Android 3.5.0 [JellyBean] [09/08/12]
Im coming from using MIUI for a very long time on my HTC Inspire and while MIUI has been awesome for my pone, it is crappy on my new tablet. Every single MIUI rom for the Nexus has been buggy. After some searching on XDA, I decided to give Codename Android a shot. So glad I did because this ROM is so smooth and fluid.
The only "issue" that I have is, the WiFi icon in the status bar won't change color. I have it set to pink, but it's still blue. Any ideas?
Lastly' does anyone have an idea how to change the color of the blue bar at the top of the settings screens?

Go to settings....interface.....notification bar....notification color.
Don't know about changing the WiFi color.
Now a question for you. I have always been a big fan of MiUi, did you try the JB release on MiUi.us?
Thanks for our quick response! Hmm, for some reason I completely overlooked that setting. But, I just have it a shot and it won't change the bar color. 'Tis frustrating.
And yes, I tried the miui.us version and shogun's version'
Miui.us was extremely basic. It also annoyingly included the phone and messaging apps. Updater kept for closing as well.
Also, another big issue was the glitchy transition from portrait to landscape. everything felt so heavy, if that makes sense. It felt and looked as if they just stretched everything out to fit a tablet.
CNA is much lighter, smoother, fluid, and absolutely seamless. Coming from predominantly using a heavily miui themed phone, running CNA on my Nexus7 feels like a relief.
[Sent via my Google Nexus 7. Pardon errors.]
I have been watching the MiUi development, but with CNA, I couldn't find a logical reason to try it.
You mention the phone and text apps. Did you know that using Google Voice and an app like Talk atone, you can make/receive phone calls and send/receive text?
You would have to try MIUI on your tablet in order to see what I'm saying for yourself.
But yeah, I figured that, but I don't see the point in using my larger tablet for calls and texts, when I have my Inspire. it couldn't hurt to check it out though huh? Thanks!

AOSP-like browser

Hi i want to ask you if you know good browser with flash support. I want it to be as much as similiar to aosp browser. And yes i know i can root and install it, but on nexus device i dont want to ( i know hoe to root, i have galaxy ace and i'm running cm10 jellybean). I found naked browser, but the design is very poor. Thanks in advance

Never tried AOSP, but if you can't "duplicate" it with ssLauncher, there's probably nothing close.
edit: LOL, sorry got "Launcher" and "Browser" confused... Boat works for me.
Eh i'm looking for an app not a launcher. Btw. I don't think that this launcher will magically convert chrome into AOSP browser
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
You might try the "naked browser" from the playstore. It works well on my N7 and does not need root.Very smooth and has a full screen mode that crome lacks.I have used asop since I am rooted but prefer the naked browser best.It is set up to load flash on demand and t sppeds up loading pages that have a bunch of flash content you don't want to see anyway.

Do you mind sharing exactly what aspect(s) of Naked Browser's design that you found to be poor?
Yes i tried it. It's very smooth and fast, and i really like the fullscreen mode, but the icon could be better (it's not a deal breaker) and the icons in the bottom panel (settings,refresh- the upper row) could be a bit bigger. When i open new tab i would like to see my bookmarks with thumbnails. And also when i open the new tab i have to slide down a bit to see domain, weather, film review, because it's covered by open tabs. Anyway it's a good browser, better than google chrome

Thank you for responding. It's OK if Naked Browser is not for you. It's just another choice that I want people to know about.
Let me express my position. I made Naked Browser in response to the privacy violations of most browsers out there. All along I focused on speed, stability, and features rather than user interface. I made the icon in 3 minutes from memory. Some people like it. If they don't it is easily changed in some launchers. In others, if you search for "change icon" in the Google Play Store then apps can change the icon. A few people have been telling me to reduce the height of the bottom menu but you are the first to say that it is too small. The start page does not have thumbnails because it is designed to show as much information as possible in a small space as quickly as possible. The "slide down" on new tab is something that may take getting used to. In the end, I believe that the behavior of the Naked Browser menus is more efficient than any other browser that I've tried. Naked Browser has been out for less than 2 months so things may change.
Anyway, I'm posting this information for anyone that cares. You can find Naked Browser here in the Google Play Store.
Naked Browser is not for profit. Please do not try it if you don't want to.

[Q] Nexus 10 Landscape UI on Nexus 7??

Hey all,
Now, I have done the searching, and found the thread about getting tablet UI on my Nexus 7, It looks nice and I'll probably end up using it... However, I like the way the UI is laid out on the Nexus 10...
Now, I know that the 7 will switch to landscape mode and look similar, however, I want the App Drawer and associated buttons to be across the bottom and the google search bar to be across the top like the 10, as opposed to the sides on the 7.
Now, I understand that the N10's screen is a higher resolution, but I figure if anyone has figured it out, it'd be someone here at xda.
So, my question is, has anyone figured out how to do this yet?
Are you running 4.2?
If you're running version 4.2 or over and don't mind having slightly smaller icons, I would recommend changing your DPI from 213 to 160 in /system/build.prop
Of course you will have to be rooted to do this, but this would be worth trying and should give you what you're looking for .
If you're running 4.1.2 maybe try this this method also (as I can't remember the layout when you change your DPI on 4.1.2, and you can always change it back). If not, try some launchers from the Play Store like Apex or Nova.
Hope this helps.
I'd very much like the Nexus 10 landscape on my Nexus 7 as well. Right now, the Nexus 7 landscape looks like a hack for me. It doesn't even look tablet-ish. Anxiously seeking solutions.
I tried what Fuzone suggested and it worked just fine... Needed to adjust some widgets and whatnot but other than that it's good. That is if you don't mind the smaller icons.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Nova Launcher Prime paired with paranoid rom = profit... Lower DPI with paranoid and increase rows and columns with nova if you play around with nova launcher settings you can achieve this... make launcher horizontal instead of vertical in landscape mode too in settings etc etc
please try this patch. you can have the TRUE tablet UI like Nexus 10.

your device should be rooted before flashing the patch, of course

Possibly silly question. How does the N10 UI / N7 tablet patch differ from dpi switch to 160 on N7 ?
I am asking from a visual standpoint, not technical....
Sent from my HTC Amaze 4G using xda app-developers app
This worked for me on 4.2.1. Flash the proper file (odexed/deodexed) tablet UI from your favorite recovery. The launcher is messed up but Nova Launcher free clears it up. See post number 912 in the following link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1780970&page=92
While you're there, grab the appropriate stock UI file because the Nexus will not OTA update with the mod installed. Also, if you're running an earlier OS, there are files like these for 4.2 and 4.1.2 earlier in the topic.
