Hey guys,
Just stabilized to dzo's Aurora. I didn't like the phone application because it stored my most frequent calls. I changed it to touchpal and i'm OK now. Now I'm looking for a SMS application which fully supports Greek Unicode 160 chars SMS. Can you suggest me a couple of them except handcent and go SMS?

Have you tried Chomp from the market?
Just tried it but it doesn't supports 160 SMS for Greek language. So far only handcent and gosms does.

mms.apk is the stock SMS and MMS app and should not be removed. email.apk is the stock email app. I always remove the stock email as I prefer K-9 Mail instead.

Yeah I removed the email.apk.
But I really dont want two SMS apps. I already have Handcent installed, I want to remove "Messaging" app. So are you saying the apk for that is mms.apk and it should not be removed?

I use Handcent also, but the third party messaging apps rely on the stock mms app to function properly. Just disable the notifications in the stock app. It wont hurt anything having both on your phone.

Well...for people who can't sent 160 sms characters on stock sms messaging app and they are limited to sent 70 characters here is the solution...
Simple...root needed!
with root explorer etc...
go to: /data/data/com.sonyericsson.conversations/shared_prefs
and open the file com.sonyericsson.conversations_preferences.xml.
find the line which says "semc_pref_key_character_conversion"value=false
and set it true..!
save the file and reboot your phone...and happy texting!
if i helped press thanks button!

Isn't this the same option as "Cost Saving: Convert special characters to send more text in each message" in the Messaging app settings?

I personally use Handcent ... I'm almost certain you can configure it to have a pop up notification like you showed in picture. I haven't tried it yet, but Floating Notifications is getting a lot of buzz

Yes it is, in additional settings turn on "screen on for pop-up", I just tested it and it works fine. It shows up on the lock screen with an option to "close", "delete" or "reply".

I was trying that app out the other day, I liked it but the UI is ugly, hopefully it gets changed a little.
I know it sounds like you have found what you need...but this is a very nice 3rd SMS app with slide over and popup settings - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.klinker.android.messaging_donate - the dev team is constantly updating as well.

I'm making this post for a friend. She has a T-Mobile G2 and apparently when using sending text messages (via stock app) messages fail if the persons message is themed. Deleting Cache and resetting will help for a little while, but eventually will do it again. Text Messages sent without any custom themes are sent fine. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

I did a search and didn't find anyone with the same issue, I thought maybe someone on here would know a work around... or anyone know of a good third party messaging app that allows to have individual themes for different people?
