Nexus 7 lags while and after playing music - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Tried to play some music today on my Nexus 7, but i noticed that while playing music the homescreen and the all of the transitions started to lag. I believed it had to do something with my custom kernel, so i reverted back to the stock one. At the moment i'm using the stock rom, rooted, with the stock kernel but the lag persists.
Is anyone experiencing the same problem? And better: does anyone have a solution?
Thanks!
Edit:
Ok, so i just tried to remove the play music widget and the lag disappeared! Don't know if google is aware of this, pretty annoying bug...

[Q] Sound crack/lag when locking or unlocking screen while listening to music

While listening to music, i recognise a short crack or lag everytime I lock or unlock the screen (and only then, otherwise I didn´t experience any lags during playback).
The only time it worked flawlessly was with the stock ROM and HTCs stock music player. All other music players I tried after that had the issue, even on the stock ROM.
I also tried the MoDaCo Custom Donut ROM, now I am on the spqrom 0.6 I found on xda (FroYo, Cyanogen based) - still experiencing the same problem with all players (tried PowerAMP, Cube3, Winamp and almost every other player out there...)
Can´t find anything on the forum or on google, any suggestions?
Those cracks drive me crazy! Please let me know if there is a music player/ROM/system file hack out there that can fix the problem.
I'm using HTC TatFroyoSense v0.2 (WWE edition), no lag
Thanks for your reply. Do you use the stock HTC (sense) music player? Did you try any other players like winamp etc.?

New Music/Clock/Camera/Gallery Apps

http://www.droid-life.com/2011/04/0...y-desk-clock-and-cube-wallpaper-android-apps/
Anyone know of they work on the Nexus One? I'm downloading them now.
Camera installed and works but missing the shutter button graphics. Meh
Music App works great.
Desk Clock fails to install. Could be a permission thing.
Gallery 3D FCs when trying to launch.
Cube Livewallpaper works but FC's when opening the settings
I just tried the new Music app this morning. It works. They have official signatures too so it works even on unrooted phones.
The music app seems nice, though it also seems a bit sluggish to me. It will take a few days to know if some of the Music apps annoying bugs have been fixed yet.
I haven't tried the other apps yet, maybe later today. I'm curious what has been changed.
camera nd music work fine (though you will replace the camera app entirely and the prog is a bit crippled regarding options)
gallery-app does not work for me (force closes)
Music works fine, but still has not implemented Gapless Playback and Album Artist classification.
It won't install for me. It just says "Application not installed".
????
is there a way to install these on an unrooted phone without overwriting the original system apps?
Just install as normal. You can't overwrite a system app.
Any remarkable improvement in the new camera app?
I can't find the “Recent” section with album previews and a scrolling wheel feel? Can you guys tell me how to get to it?
Thanks.
Are any of y'all running unrooted stock gingerbread 2.3.3 on your phones? I am and I can only get the gallery to install and it just force closes

Im running stock gingerbread and the music player downloaded and is working just fine. Didn't try the other apps because reading the comments from other users they all had the same result as you.

Thanks for the feedback.
I tried re-installing the gingerbread update and installing the app again but I just got the same results. I had rooted my phone using SuperOneClick when it had Froyo because of internal space issues but when I updated it to Gingerbread there was really no need. It is my understanding the phone becomes unrooted after you install the update right?
I am unrooted 2.3.3, and as I said earlier, the music player won't install. I just get "Application not installed".
Is that what other people are getting?

I got the same error. My problem was that I had the updated music player (Gold Speaker Music App). I went ahead and reflashed the gapps, Giving me the old music app (Blue Speaker Music App), now the the music app installs just fine.
Note this will not replace the Blue Speaker Music App.
After the Leaked Music App was installed, I do not have the Music Sync option in the my Google sync settings that came with the Gold Speaker Music App. I have tried to update to the Gold Speaker Music App after I got the leaked music app working however the Gold Speaker Music App replaced both music apps.
Thought I would add: I was doing this in hopes that I would get the Jumper and the Sync option with the new Leaked Music App, just in case Syncing would start working. Maybe this is the key to get the Google Music Sync to work again and I hope someone smarter than me can figure this out.
Ah, a great thing about the new music player (just installed with no problem on my unrooted N1) is that it works with Voice Search's "Listen To..." option, where the old Froyo one doesn't. Very sweet. "Listen to Paranoid" brought the song right up, and it starts playing, no need to hit any keys. Will be great in the car.
Also seemed to grab an existing playlist I made on my phone using PowerAmp, which also makes me very very happy.

[Q] need help choosing a rom/kernel

ok so i need a new rom, currently having various annoying little issues with cyanogenmod9. these include high battery drain, laggy cm9music (music plays fine, scrolling music WHILE listening to music however is super slow) (i have all album art, although this only affects this player) "unfortunately music/settings has stopped working" and also random reboots while listening to music.
so either a) does anyone know how to fix these?
or b) can anyone suggest a good rom? im looking for something that does exactly the stuff cm9 did (i particularly loved the dsp feature) but without bugs.
ps. i tried miui music player, but couldnt figure out how to connect dsp to it
Try Bugless Beast. It is simply bugless and stable.

+1 on Bugless Beast if you like 'stockish' ROM.
Regarding music app, you could try PowerAMP, it's free with limited features.
Anyway I can say that's it's really worth it to purchase the full version.
It supports many audio files.
You could also flash a custom kernel that has voodoo sound installed.
Combine it with PowerAMP and you'll get similar & comparable quality with CM Music app + DSP Manager.
AFAIK, CM Music is still in BETA, and that explains those FCs you're getting.
I myself has been using Bugless Beast + Air kernel (with Voodoo Sound of course) and never had random reboots.
Listening to music is very decent using this combination.

My favorite ICS ROM is Codename android 1.4 with Matr1x kernel. It's been super fast for me, and everything works. I haven't had a single issue with it!
Have you tried clearing Music Data? Fixing permissions on CWM?
I've been on nuhetri v3.0.1 and it has been working pretty good as of now. Haven't tried with different kernels, but they say it's working excelente with Air kernel.

It sounds like your problem is just CM9 Music. Just don't use it. There are many other music players you could use, such as Google Music from the Market.
And you don't have to "connect" DSP to anything. The settings should apply to any sound that comes our of your device.
Are you using cm9 with the stock kernel? If not, try it again with the stock kernel. Or as others have stated, bugless beast with the stock kernel. My personal experience has been that most every highly modded third party kernel causes some kind of instability. Just my $.02. Ymmv.

Well that's weird. I once used CM and PowerAMP just didn't get any improvements from DSP Manager.
I've tried listening carefully but it seems that DSP Manager only works with CM Music app.
That's why my choice is PowerAMP + Voodoo.

I use Subsonic myself and DSP definitely works with it. I can't speak for Poweramp, I personally think it's a terrible app.
wow thanks for the responses guys and yeah ive tried using dsp with music players, but it only seems to work with the apps that cm assigns it to. ive been googling how to assign it but it requires root access, which (problematic) i dont have as my superuser app seems to have corrupted itself (which i can fix)
anyway all that crap aside, im on cyanogenmod7 now. i love it, but it just isnt... ICS. so basically what ill try now is probably bugless beast (after i reflash superuser) then ill flash dsp and see if that works.

Problem with video & audio

Hello,
I started having some strange issues with audio and video playback on my Nexus 6P. It seems that my phone has suddenly lost the ability to play any audio or video file. In Google Photos app if I try to play a local video file it just informs that the file cannot be played. If I try to shoot video using Google Camera it just informs that the connection to the camera is lost. I cannot listen to Google Music or even the system ringtones & notifications. Even the alarm clock starts without any sound(only vibration).
I don't know what exactly caused this. My phone is rooted and I'm using custom roms. Lately I've been using Pure Nexus and Substratum themes. I suspect that the problem started after switching the theme in Substratum.
I have already wiped my phone from recorery(TWRP) and clean installed the rom & gapps. That didn't seem to help so I clean installed another rom(Nitrogen OS). I still seem to have the same issue.
Could this be hardware related issue? Any ideas?
